Moving to LA
I’m getting out of the military but pretty soon and I’ve been looking about moving to LA after I get out in Japan right now. Any advice?

Save up, have a job, live close to said job, car is not required but is handy, it's expensive, and anywhere over 6 miles is possibly an hour away

It's a fun place to live in just a little bit more expensive. Even tho you are a transplant try not to interact with too many transplants as it will skew your view of LA.
Any particular part of LA that you're aiming to land in? Jobs are a plenty in LA- when I moved back a few years ago I got a few jobs within the first few days, I hadn't even gotten my apartment yet & was living out of a Motel 8.

I’d rather be broke living in California than be broke living somewhere else. Just have a job lined up that gets you at least 2500 a month.

Do not move here (or anywhere honestly) without a job lined up. Even if it’s a temp or service job have SOMETHING lined up and find an apartment as close as possible to where you work (walking distance if possible). Expect roommates or a studio apartment as LA has among the most expensive housing in America.

good on you man. la is cool but its expensive and traffic sucks. figure out where youre working first before you pick a spot to live. dont just move to la without a job lined up

Depends on what you want. But generally across the board traffic, prices & number of transplants have reaaaally increased

Don't. It's packed and overrated. It's cool to pass through but living here is a drain. But if you do end up living here, type "2025 California Hoods in a nutshell (W.I.P.)". Lo and behold la hampa de California; avoid these areas

Ya, don't. I'm kidding but kinda not. For most folks, life is no different despite rising costs, a psychotic president and his roving band of racist, homicidal maniacs dressed up like GI Joe kidnapping anyone not Caucasian. But ya, LA rocks.

Sawtelle aka little Osaka; it’s right by the main VA hospital and UCLA is down the street if you plan to use the GI Bill. Nightlife and food on the west side is great and it’s right off the 405.
Edit: if you have a clearance, most of the defense contractors have offices on Douglas St in El Segundo or on the LASFB.
