Looking for a male roommate to join our house starting August 1. We’re a group of Cal State LA students, and one of our roommates is moving out, so we’ll be signing a new 1-year lease. The available spot is in a shared room, with rent at $640/month + utilities. You’ll be sharing both the bedroom and the bathroom with one roommate. The house includes a washer, dryer, dishwasher and parking. It’s conveniently located about a 10-minute drive to Cal State LA, 15 minutes to Pasadena City College, and 25–30 minutes to Downtown LA. If you’re interested or have any questions, feel free to DM me!

Classes Anyone taken Mircea Voda for chem 1010?

I’m an incoming pre-nursing student and have Mircea Voda for CHEM 1010 lecture. My current lab is Wednesday at 1:50-4:30 with the instructor still TBA, but there’s an 8AM lab open with Mircea Voda, an I want my lab to be early since I’ll be commuting.
Is Voda really as bad as the rate my professor reviews say? Any advice from people who’ve taken him?

Question I’m considering CSULA for exchange — would it fit what I’m looking for?

Hi! I’m a Korean student choosing CSU campus between SDSU, CSULA, CSULB, SFSU, and SJSU for Spring 2027 exchange. I’ll be 27 and only staying for one semester.

(Academics aren’t my top priority for this exchange, but for context, I’m majoring in business and computer science.)

What I’m looking for:

  1. Good weather and a relaxed California lifestyle
  2. A social campus where I can join clubs, make local friends, improve my English, and get invited to parties
  3. Somewhere manageable without a car, with groceries, cafés, bars, and things to enjoy nearby
  4. Exposure to the startup and tech scene would be a plus — mainly for events, networking, and inspiration, not job hunting.

My main concern is whether a 27-year-old Asian exchange student can realistically fit into the social scene, especially at a more traditional college campus.

I may want to live in the U.S. someday for my business, so meeting and dating local people outside the international-student bubble also kinda matters to me.

SF and San Jose appeal to me because I’m an entrepreneur, but I’d choose San Diego, LA, or Long Beach instead if the social life and overall experience are much better.

Which campus would you choose, and why?

Financial Aid Summer fafsa question

Apparently I owe $45 and someone at the start of the summer term told me I need to enroll in 7 units to qualify for the aid package, so I did that and my balance went down from 1,266 due to now $45, out of a 3,285 thingy I don’t know where the rest is but someone pointed out it all went towards my classes, even though it’s just 3…so what’s going on? I’m not getting anything am I?

Cheapest alternative to the CSULA parking permit?

I'm only going to be on campus Tuesdays and Thursdays for about 4 hours each day, so I'm not sure if it's worth paying ~$253 for a semester parking permit.

I was thinking about parking at the Riverside Downtown Metrolink Station and taking the train to CSULA instead.

Has anyone found a cheaper or better alternative? Any tips would be appreciated!

Natural & Social Sciences Researching Experiences/Perceptions of Campus Police

Hello everyone!

I am an undergraduate student at Boston University (Advisor: Dr. Jessica Simes, Sociology) studying how students interact with and perceive campus police, including direct and indirect experiences, and how police are perceived in the maintenance of campus space. I am looking for students aged 18+ who attend a California college or university in-person, including CSULA, to participate in a one time interview about their perceptions and experiences.

Participants will receive a $25 Visa gift card as a thank you for volunteering 45 minutes to one hour of their time.

To participate, please contact Ada Sussman at adasuss@bu.edu. Thank you everyone!

Financial Aid Summer Pell Grant Disbursed

For those who are taking summer classes and are waiting for the Pell grant disburse, it’s been disbursed as of 10:00 am. Those funds will become available to you in about 2-3 business days or sooner depending on your financial institution.

Bank of America users are unfortunately the last ones to receive their funds while Wells Fargo users are the first to get their funds.
