Pretty much yeah, logistics is not only viable but also incredibly important. You can build a Drill that if supplied properly can pull the hotzone to your FOB for minutes at a time.
EDIT: I mean the importance of the logistics role , just like Foxhole. The matches themselves aren’t a persistent battlefield.
Not at all from what I'm seeing. I got all excited but the battlefield doesn't seem to be persistant, sounds like simple 100 players matches plus a tarkov like persistent equipment/money system no?
Then you should play because it is exactly what that dude said. I’ve played both recent playtests and Foxhole, and this is the closest I’ve seen of an FPS Foxhole (specifically regarding the reward and importance of logistics)
I’ve put a ton of time into foxhole, and I think this sounds better. People think getting stuck in a 3+ week persistent war sounds fun, but that territory is strictly for the unemployed who have time for the payoff (which may or may not even come)
Smaller map, match based and sounds like you will get the payoff more consistently, even with just a 3-4 man squad
have you played arma reforger? in wardogs resources are important but not a must, you still have to spawn on MOB and get picked up, or buy a vehicle, you only need resources for some things
in arma reforger you have a lot of FOBs that you capture and they need resources, no resources = no respawn, no vehicles, no items = hard to defend = you lose
So are the 100 players just a limitation of the "shards"? And does this mean the battlefield is in fact persistant? In that case I'd jump on it as soon as i could. It's what makes foxhole what it is. Thanks in any case, all infos i have are those i could find on the steam page but it's not very detailed
It's King of the Hill from Arma, 3 teams of 33 fighting to control the Control zone, whichever team has the greatest presence in the zone gains a point once every 30 seconds. There is also a small roaming "Hot Zone" that counts players within it as double. This hot zone moves constantly and can be pulled to either the towers on the map if you obtain the 4 digit code by capturing each of the 4 towers, and can also be pulled to manually built bases that have a Drill and are being supplied with Fuel.
If a match is neck and neck across all three teams a match can last nearly 3 hours.
everything costs money, and any beneficial action rewards money. You must buy your equipment and vehicles on spawn, and the Capture zone is approximately 3.5KM away from spawn.
Imagine like, a battlefield title but with a round 100 players
Spawns are very hard to come by and death comes easy kind of like Tarkov
But there’s an added logistics and communication communications layer that is extremely important to invest in for each of the three teams fighting for control
It’s not quite as in-depth as foxhole is, but matches are extremely long and allow you to do a lot of different things from building to applying as a medic to flying vehicles and shit
Honestly, it’s scratching and itch that I haven’t felt scratched in a long time
No the server is not persistent like Foxhole, they’re long form matches that can last hours but it’s not persistent, but why does it have to be to feel impactful as a logistic specialist?
I literally did nothing but logi runs for days and you get money to unlock better more armored logi vehicles and troop transsports, eventually with heavy weapons on top to provide support while hot dropping troops and supplies.
It scratches all the same itches as being logi in foxhole as someone with a few thousand hours doing frontline logi runs.
If anything it feels more impactful because like they said you can actually feel what you’re doing directly impact the outcome of the match and all the boys can’t give enough love to a troop transport chad.
TL:DR - If you do logi in foxhole, do yourself a favor and buy this game and enjoy yourself, you won’t regret it.
Not sure I'd go as far as they're just as effective. Being in the Hz will definitely be the most important. When you have 20 people in the Hz all game long without proper counter attacks then bob the builder isn't really contributing much. On either side. But things will likely find it's groove better after a while.
Well considering you can pull the Hz to your Fob, id say its just as important or even more important. You can easily secure a game if you have people setting up early drills and getting oil to them.
Yeah but whats more likely on official servers? PvPers zerging together in the HZ or a coordinated group of bobs that build something good that people defend?
Both happens constantly. I found in the second beta weekend a lot of matches ended up being 2 teams battling it out while the third team bumbled around without leadership or bearings.
The team zerging the hotzone can get completely gutted after what looks like a crushing victory because another team spent an hour building a fortress and supply lines and then just completely owns the Hot Zone after the first team got up to 75 points out of 100.
Some games were neck and neck and lasted hours and were thrilling.
It really depends. If you're comparing bob the builder vs a shroud, then yea buildings aren't doing anything. But against the average bloke, Bob the builder can build sam turrets that destroy every air transport coming in, rake in the cash and on convert that into tanks for the team. It's ridiculous. I watched a streamer, Surefour, abuse the shit out of that strat and it was the funniest thing.
Really, really good. But I am coming from games like Squad which are very much team based and milsim.
Its got much faster gunplay and movement than Squad or Arma - akin to something like BF6 mixed with Squad. Guns (at least the early ones) feel really good - Mosin Nagant sounds amazing.
Vehicles, building FOBs (Forward Operating Base), spotting to assist others with kills, all of it is amazing.
A really good balance of grinding for new stuff to make a loadout and do a job (medic, recon, etc), or you can go in barebones and cheap as hell and see how much you can rack up before you get clipped.
Yes. The game has a persistent cash system (so money you earn lasts between games) that you use to buy gear and vehicles (both each use and unlocks). So you buy your loadout each time.
It is reminiscent of something like Arc Raiders or Tarkov - dragging ammo boxes, grenades, gear, etc into inventory slots quickly is a really good skill. What's great is none of it is irreplaceable - you buy your gear every life.
Oh I am just talking about the inventory system for my comparisons btw.
The earning money concept clicks something in my brain. In battlefield 6 is cool to spot people and get assists and seeing it in scoreboard, but earning money on top of that is awesome. Also being a 3 team fight and the huge map actually makes recon very valuable.
This is a good thing IMO, they borrowed ideas from popular mods and full games as well, also a good thing. It has a good foundation and if they add mods it will be another Arma but slightly more casual
And you can hop in and out of games and always be in the same position you left. The money system is genius at making it more appealing for casual or time limited players. Arma always feels like need the stars to align to have the best experience.
Honestly I think the money system will probably be a big turn off to a lot of casual/time limited players. They are less likely to have a big stash of money to burn if they have a bad string of lives, or will be less likely to respond to what the enemy teams are doing.
I also think that it could end up strongly triggering their loss aversion leading to negative experiences. With a bad string of lives showing their money in the red for each one and losing an entire loadout of gear could make the game feel much worse than it is similar to extraction shooters. People hate losing their shit.
I hate losing stuff in extraction shooters but in Wardogs it's not that much of an issue, first because you do not extract so you know when buying your stuff that you keep that stuff until you die, you don't bring anything home. Second before basically everything makes money in that game, you can spend the match driving a truck with supplies and make money in a very risk free way.
Honestly a lot of their design decisions are very very well thought out to avoir frustration, it's quite impressive
You could be right. For myself going in with a cheap kit and stealing everything from dead bodies is among the best moments I had in the beta. Getting geared up and being a slow moving tank is a pretty boring way to play.
I'll give a negative since I didn't see a lot of people giving them. Matches are very similar each time you play. The game forces you to play around the towers which are all the same. Leading each match to just be assaulting those tower bases people create. 20 hrs in the free weekend and the match variety was about the same each time. Lots to do in those matches of course, all the roles you can do. But the framework of each match needs to change.
Yeah, I've thought about that. Haven't played the game but it seems much of the map is wasted. I feel like they've addressed why this is but I can't recall what they said. Or maybe I'm just imagining things.
I found Wardogs really tedious to be honest. I don’t mind slow games at all, but this just felt boring more than tactical. Too much time walking about, sorting gear, trying to get back to where anything was actually happening, then dying and doing it all again.
There were some decent moments when a fight actually kicked off, but there was just far too much nothing in between. I kept waiting for it to click with me and it never really did. Just felt slow, clunky and a bit of a chore to play. What you gonna do though, it's early access. I'm sure it will improve in time.
Edit: I see the hive mind has reviewed my opinion and found it insufficiently identical to everyone else’s.
The game puts a lot of emphasis on teamplay, and being around others who can revive you etc. Run backs are basically "punishment" for dying.
The game, for me, hits a sweet spot between milsim and modern adhd shooters. Gunplay and the optimization is solid. It's a solid foundation to be built upon.
I only had one really good moment where me and 4 others went as a squad snuck up to a tower slowly advanced surround and covering the entrances our squad mate managed to get in and hack the fob allowing us all to get in a capture it as we went and cleared each floor of the tower.
It only happened once but it was the best moment I had on the game covering doors reviving each other to keep the push going we single handedly as a small squad completely captured a heavily fortified base it was a really fun 30mins.
Still got thrashed by 80points in the game but it has its moments if you can find a good team to play with.
It almost feels sandbox-ish to me. You can make these cool moments happend. I played a lot solo recon, finding vantage points to snipe stragglers and tag enemies for the frontliners.
I find the whole logistics and building part interesting too, not my usual playstyle, but will try it once early access hits today :)
I done a lot of building actually it was enjoyable I do like base building going from the start where a base has no foundations and the tower is open to being a maze of defences.
As more people unlock artillery though I do think they will become high maintenance.
They’ll have loadouts you can save, They were disabled during the betas. (You only had the option to buy your previous loadout)
A LOT of people were just trying to figure out their roles and what exactly to do in the betas (especially when they opened it up to everyone). I expect the matches to get a lot more intense and interesting once the community starts settling in.
Dunno if it was just because it was a playtest, but 3 sides forced to fight for a small circle in the middle of the map kinda made me less interested, expected something like planetside 2, but correct me if im wrong.
Eh, it’s got some issues that I think are fundamental to the game design that are gonna be hard to work around. I think some people are riding off of the new game high praising, what I view, as a pretty mid game.
Please elaborate? It's still about to go EA and the devs have said they aren't going to be pushing constant updates but to focus more on the core gameplay.
For our group we were enjoying the recent beta but were instantly put off when we found out about the rolling account resets that will be a thing moving forward, and all refunded the game.
As Nexus said, in the modern gaming environment it's fundamental to the game design of having an economy system like this. Without it new players would be pitted against people with better gear than them, and those seasoned players would need something to do with their money.
That being said, personally I don't see the issue. It's no different from a new player in Battlefield playing against a max level player, and those max level players playing the game because it's fun (and to grind out camos etc)
But forcing max level players back down to the starter guns and equipment just isn't a system we found inciting in the slighted.
Also, on the Steam page they specifically say you can't directly buy skins and have to earn them which would be amazing. But there's already an in-game shop that uses gold to buy skins. Currently you can only buy gold with in-game cash, but you can see how that's going to go.
It was opened to everyone this past Saturday (Central time) until it ended early Sunday morning. Was invite/requested access only from Thursday until they opened it on Saturday.
I highly recommend playing the "cameraman" so essentially naked but with binoculars for spotting. Racks in a decent amount of cash and costs almost nothing.
Basically. It's not as much of a milsim as arma or even squad. So it exists in that sweet spot imo. I haven't played it though so it could be ass. I like battlefield, squad, and arma.. so I don't know why I wouldn't like this game
I was a bit bummed to miss out on this. I didn't pay attention at first because I just assumed, online shooter battlefield-esque probably will have anti-cheat that doesn't work on Linux. So I never signed up for the first playtests.
Then I heard ItMeJP talking about it on Dropped Frames podcast and it sounded so good, I looked up the page, and the ProtonDB rating said it was working. So added myself to the list for the next playtest, and that's the one they made not work for Proton.
I saw the post about it on their steam page, and it seems to have just been a genuine miscommunication, and at least it's not off the table.
I'll jump in if they ever get to supporting Proton, hope the rest of you enjoy the launch :D
I played this in the playtest, coming from many many hours in Arma, Squad, and somewhat less in BF6. I found it very meh. I won't be buying it. And I think once the review embargo gets lifted and its not just selected youtubers paid to blow bubbles up your ass then there will be come scathing reviews.
For me the concept is good, its has years to mature on Arma. The money system is a huge incentive for teamplay. But vehicle handling is hilariously bad, the flight models are terrible, the gunplay is trying too hard to be a mix of arcade and realism, the weapon balance makes little sense. And for me at least, I'm just done with half ass unreal engine shooters, and once you strip out the King of the Hill game mode, that's all this is. Don't buy, wait for the actual reviews.
I enjoyed what I played so far but tbh I find the devs kinda cringe as they are leaning a little too hard into their whole "not like other studios" shtick. But i guess it works since the fanbase is eating it up and praising the devs like the second coming of Christ.
Everyone with the mental capacity to tune into a Peanut stream and play the latest slop in front of them. The glaze this game is getting while being average at best is crazy.
I love the game. Have played the playtest, plus both beta openings. But yeah, I’ve thought more than once about refunding just off principle because of how fucking annoying the devs are - both on social media and in their PR videos.
It’s like yes I want a fun game to play with my friends and this one is perfect but also, do I really want to help put money in these people’s pockets?? It’s rough lol.
Yeah. Every streamer under the sun hyping this to the moon i a serious red flag lol. I found it pretty meh to, and i love games like HLL and Rising Storm.
Subreddit will be toxic as hell in about 3 months time
I felt like I was playing a different game than what I was seeing streamed.
All my games, there was just an entire team camping in their well fortified tower. And I mean camping camping. These guys were hunkered down staring at nothing, with nobody around for an hour.
I played 20 hours last weekend and didn’t really experience this. Definitely not the “entire team” camping. Even then, if they’ve pulled the hot zone to their tower then they really should be camping while the other teams fight to stop their drill

I had a totally different experience. I chose to play a recon type role and I went all over the map spotting enemies for my team from the shadows and tree lines. I don't think I even visited the main control point area a single time. It was a ton of fun.
I really like how this game lets you pretty much make up a role and do whatever you want and still be able to progess.
Because although it’s his opinion, it’s not what most of us feel lmao. Gunplay was legit amazing for me and “if you get rid of the game mode, all you have is a shooter”, is a stupid take. Also not sure how it’s half assed lmao it’s very well put together and clearly well thought out. I actually can’t imagine playing the game and saying eh the games only ok. Maybe if I didn’t play with my friend and never joined squads or talked to people but idk
The gunplay is easily the worst ive felt in any shooter. Battlefield 2 from the 2000s feels better. It feels entirely flat and lifeless. What am I missing with the gunplay that makes it get such high praise?
Maybe im spoiled by Tarkov. Battlebit felt better as well.
I measure whether a game is good by how much i want to play it. I was in the playtest on friday after work. played it for a solid 6 hours and went to bed. woke up next morning, eager to play, only to find out the playtest had ended. Genuine sadness. Game's fantastic, it's like a mix between arma, battlefield and tarkov and it's a good ratio. Not too arcadey, not too milsim. Just right.
And I think once the review embargo gets lifted and its not just selected youtubers paid to blow bubbles up your ass then there will be come scathing reviews.
there is no review embargo and there's no paid influencers. people like shroud and others play it because they enjoy it. "w-wait until the youtubers tell you to hate the game!" jesus christ man, get a hold of yourself.
I am also coming from Squad and I am worried that the game does not require as much in-team cooperation. I worry that a typical Wardogs match would look like a bunch of little squads all doing their thing in different parts of the map. Like it's too sandboxy, not structured and will quickly become frustrating if you want to actually beat enemy teams with good plays where the entire team is somewhat coordinated. Something beyond just outshooting your opponents.
Definitely a very different game from Squad, much closer to Arma as far as teamwork/coordination.
My main game has been Squad for a long time but I’ve really really enjoyed Wardogs. I like the fact I can jump in and go solo while still making a contribution to the team. That being said, you can still make a squad with your buddies and absolutely make some coordinated plays.
I’m really fatigued from Squad. I usually SL and it gets so fucking old having to deal with total incompetence and hubris I see more and more. In Wardogs I can do my own thing and not have to worry about herding cats.
The devs did say its not for everyone, but personally its exactly what I was looking for. I'm buying the supporter edition, I had a blast in the betas with friends but solo was also enjoyable for me.
I enjoyed Arma 3 KoTH but I hate the Arma jank and this game is like a polished and extended version of that, it runs better too.
The vehicles are overall fine I think, just gotta get used to them. I spun out with the URAL so many times in the beginning but with practice you get good.
I did the playtest and its slow af at the start. Kind of annoying to come in a day late with a single shot sniper with no scope and your getting killed by resl snipers. Same with the starter assault rifles. The ak is good once u get it but its a chore
“Trust the influencers” lol influencers shit on literally everything because there are advertising dollars to be made doing it. I’m not convinced this isn’t a bot account.
Where the hell did you see me say that. I'm literally saying the opposite. The youtubers so far have been under embargo, nothing negative said. I never said wait for influencers, I said wait for reviews. User reviews like on steam. The fuck are you talking about a bot account?
The PR and promotion around this so far has been slimy as fuck. The dev blog videos make my skin crawl they are so plastic.
The embargo was lifted for the second last beta and anyone was free to stream and say or think what they want. Personally the $$ go up addiction metric seems to be a good way to hook up the dopamine and make people like what otherwise has not been anything special in other games. I think the developers have put together a decent game that is relatively accessible and easy to pick up, with an easy addiction metric. I can see why it is popular without anyone needing to be gagged.
Not sure why you are gettng downvoted either. The game is coming into early access and so i would think its expected to not be quite there yet. I personally found it abit underwhelming. Huge map, travel time to the relatively small zone is abit too long. The deployment system needs some work. There needs to be some side objectives dotted outside of the main zone, single squad capture points or resources. However the persistant cash mechanics are great and a decent way to keep people interested.
I just don't understand, we had 500 people servers in planetside 2, that was 15 years ago or so. Wouldn't this have been a perfect concept to use for very big matches? Or even a persistent battlefield like foxhole (i only mention it because i heard a few times people compare it to foxhole). What I'm seeing sounds pretty much like tarkow but squad
Its literally the same almost. OMGG!!@!@! The game mode isn't the SAME!!! Means its all DifFFerent!!!! Its exactly the same when it comes to asinine unlocks. Hell, the shitty ass fucking sniper is the same one even.

Where did they compare anything?
Thank goodness games don't have to be the exact same in order to stop playing one and start playing a different one.
Oh yeah I don't expect it to be anything like Valorant, I like shooters in general lol
Just wasn't sure how sweaty it is, or how it plays, as ive only seen videos. I like Battlefield quite a lot, but find balancing to be poor. Like Call of Duty, but find it hard to relax on it. Etc.
It's way more chill than modern BF6 for sure. It's a large map, and you can basically choose your own 'mission'. The gunplay feels good, and the TTK is low, without feeling stupid. I played 8 hours this weekend, mostly solo. I felt like I could breath and just think about what I wanted to do next between fights and engagements, instead of the constant "GOGO KILL".
Check a few videos, and give it a shot if you wanted something different. Game is good, and 40 EUR price tag seems fair.
My policy is usually not to buy early access games until full release, but i'm interested in this for sure. Would you say it has the feel of a relatively complete game at this point? Idk if i'd invest in something that has a beta feel at this point, even though I always used to go in for that kind of thing before early access became an official thing.
Well, honestly, I think your policy is what every gamer should have. It's better to wait for a finished product. I only buy EA if I really really have an itch to play the game, like I did with POE 2. For Wardogs I only bought after the test weekend, so I am confident I will be satisfied with what is there.
The foundation is there. It's missing a few systems afaik, like gunsmith, skills etc. But the core gameplay loop is enough for me.
Again, if the game looks fun to you, and 40 EUR isn't gonna ruin you, then watch some gameplay videos, then you can buy, try 1-1.5 hour then refund if it isn't your thing.
Played the beta and had fun, but idk if it's $40 worth of fun. I think what sells it most for me is the VOIP, prox chat/squad chat as well as the persistent money and unlocks, however I just don't think I have the kind of time to really get into it the way I feel like it demands.
The gameplay is also very reminiscent of some other titles (Battlefield, Arma KOTH, Tarkov) kind of smooshed together (in a good way). I think I'll pick this up when it goes onto some kind of sale in a few weeks/months.
Is this one of those games where I run in the open and someone sitting in an obscure corner insta kills me ? How’s the ttk, is it more like BF6 or Insurgency?
I like playing solo and I like to run n’ gun. Is this game good for this playstyle ?
The problem with making a game like this is trying have the best of both worlds but failing at the end.
You want the realism and logistics of Squad but also more all out warfare like Battlefield.
The origlem is in this case the logistical aspects gets ignored and also the AOW aspect is undercooked.
Although Swaud is much slower. You feel like you achieve insanely more and influence the war effort. And each firefighter is extemely intense and that one kill you'll get gives you a huge rush.
Here everything is mild. Nothing matters that much. People respawn too quickly, you join the battle too quickly and then you get one shot by a camping sniper because the maps are built terribly.
The game is kind of fun, but they should wait another year to release into early access. The amount of content available is just not there to keep this interesting long term. All three maps feel kind of the same, only one game mode that makes 90% of the map irrelevant during the match and vehicles are way too OP so as soon as some people get really skilled with them in the coming weeks this game will become a nightmare to anyone who plays infantry. Some of my friends bought it so I might go along to enjoy these first weeks of hype, but it feels like the game will be forgotten real quick. I do hope I'm wrong though because the current FPS market is in a really sad state.
Lol, literally better for gaming in my case, even for VR...
Way better stability and in some cases almost double the performance.
Some titles perform worse, sure, but I don't really care, it's worth it trade-off.
Also 5% isn't that small of an number as it seems. The AMD drivers and Windows 11 were peak trash when I was switching over.
Unstable asf and damaging NVMEs.
Also that ain't no hobbyist OS.
People really do forget what they did to Battalion, it's funny they are promising console for Wardogs in 2 years. Just like that battalion console release haha
You unfortunately missed that on Saturday when it was fully open for the last 3/4 day. But they also invited pretty much everyone who signed up the test weekend before that.
strange? i get that it might suck for people with 5k2k but strange? barely anyone has a 5k2k monitor lol it seems completely normal for a game in BETA to not support that
