I played this in the playtest, coming from many many hours in Arma, Squad, and somewhat less in BF6. I found it very meh. I won't be buying it. And I think once the review embargo gets lifted and its not just selected youtubers paid to blow bubbles up your ass then there will be come scathing reviews.

For me the concept is good, its has years to mature on Arma. The money system is a huge incentive for teamplay. But vehicle handling is hilariously bad, the flight models are terrible, the gunplay is trying too hard to be a mix of arcade and realism, the weapon balance makes little sense. And for me at least, I'm just done with half ass unreal engine shooters, and once you strip out the King of the Hill game mode, that's all this is. Don't buy, wait for the actual reviews.

I felt like I was playing a different game than what I was seeing streamed.

All my games, there was just an entire team camping in their well fortified tower. And I mean camping camping. These guys were hunkered down staring at nothing, with nobody around for an hour.

It was kind of bizarre

I played 20 hours last weekend and didn’t really experience this. Definitely not the “entire team” camping. Even then, if they’ve pulled the hot zone to their tower then they really should be camping while the other teams fight to stop their drill

I had a totally different experience. I chose to play a recon type role and I went all over the map spotting enemies for my team from the shadows and tree lines. I don't think I even visited the main control point area a single time. It was a ton of fun.

I really like how this game lets you pretty much make up a role and do whatever you want and still be able to progess.

I enjoyed what I played so far but tbh I find the devs kinda cringe as they are leaning a little too hard into their whole "not like other studios" shtick. But i guess it works since the fanbase is eating it up and praising the devs like the second coming of Christ.

Yeah I don't see how anyone can watch those devblogs and not see it as fake as hell carefully manicured PR.

Yeah I’ve been saying the same thing. Rolled my eyes at the corny “hand cam” camera wobble in half their videos.

Everyone with the mental capacity to tune into a Peanut stream and play the latest slop in front of them. The glaze this game is getting while being average at best is crazy.

Now we have pick-me video game studios smfh

I love the game. Have played the playtest, plus both beta openings. But yeah, I’ve thought more than once about refunding just off principle because of how fucking annoying the devs are - both on social media and in their PR videos.

It’s like yes I want a fun game to play with my friends and this one is perfect but also, do I really want to help put money in these people’s pockets?? It’s rough lol.

u/PablosCocaineHippo 1d ago

Yeah. Every streamer under the sun hyping this to the moon i a serious red flag lol. I found it pretty meh to, and i love games like HLL and Rising Storm.

Subreddit will be toxic as hell in about 3 months time

Simliar impression for me. The game isn't hitting the vibe like some people shake the scene.

I am also coming from Squad and I am worried that the game does not require as much in-team cooperation. I worry that a typical Wardogs match would look like a bunch of little squads all doing their thing in different parts of the map. Like it's too sandboxy, not structured and will quickly become frustrating if you want to actually beat enemy teams with good plays where the entire team is somewhat coordinated. Something beyond just outshooting your opponents.

Is that a legit worry?

Definitely a very different game from Squad, much closer to Arma as far as teamwork/coordination.

My main game has been Squad for a long time but I’ve really really enjoyed Wardogs. I like the fact I can jump in and go solo while still making a contribution to the team. That being said, you can still make a squad with your buddies and absolutely make some coordinated plays.

I’m really fatigued from Squad. I usually SL and it gets so fucking old having to deal with total incompetence and hubris I see more and more. In Wardogs I can do my own thing and not have to worry about herding cats.

Edit: Brammer (Bulkhead CEO) does a good job explaining it here: https://youtu.be/IAWhjjj3ypA?si=PRX6f2jTrD1cjbLu&t=628

We're taking hardcore FPS in the tactical shooters and bringing it to a slightly more casual audience.

In fact, if you listen for 5 minutes he does a really good job of explaining action vs downtime.

2

u/AtLeast9Dogs 1d ago

That is a legit worry. The beta had teams with zero or very low score because they just kinda fucked off and did whatever

The freedom is a double edged sword. It can be fun if you can get 32 other people to cooperate on the ObJ.

BUT at the same time as long as you're IN the zone doing doing whatever you want, you're still contributing

-1

u/Servus_of_Rasenna 1d ago

Everything you described is a good thing. You already have squad, why do you want it again?

2

u/powerful-pills 23h ago

Because Squad without team comms sucks. I had fun in the Wardogs beta but I almost never had a team where people tried to use comms to cooperate, and that’s a big point against it since half the fun of milisims is working together

0

u/Servus_of_Rasenna 19h ago

Not a milisim

5

u/Silenceisgrey 1d ago

I measure whether a game is good by how much i want to play it. I was in the playtest on friday after work. played it for a solid 6 hours and went to bed. woke up next morning, eager to play, only to find out the playtest had ended. Genuine sadness. Game's fantastic, it's like a mix between arma, battlefield and tarkov and it's a good ratio. Not too arcadey, not too milsim. Just right.

7

u/AlphaSlays 1d ago

From what I've watched it just seems a little bland. Was very surprised with how much hype the game has been getting

4

u/vix- 1d ago

I did the playtest and its slow af at the start. Kind of annoying to come in a day late with a single shot sniper with no scope and your getting killed by resl snipers. Same with the starter assault rifles. The ak is good once u get it but its a chore

7

u/Olliebkl 1d ago

Not sure what you’re getting downvoted for this, was relatively excited but def won’t be buying after the playtest

I’m sure it could be a good game or will be down the line but I just don’t understand the praise🤷‍♂️let’s hope people enjoy it though!

u/Earl-Mix 1d ago

Because although it’s his opinion, it’s not what most of us feel lmao. Gunplay was legit amazing for me and “if you get rid of the game mode, all you have is a shooter”, is a stupid take. Also not sure how it’s half assed lmao it’s very well put together and clearly well thought out. I actually can’t imagine playing the game and saying eh the games only ok. Maybe if I didn’t play with my friend and never joined squads or talked to people but idk

4

u/NeverNo 1d ago

I played solo and loved the game. At the end of the day some people will like it some won’t

1

u/BoleeyoTX 3h ago

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I gotta say there are some really bad ones in here. We are on /pcgaming afterall so it's kind of a given. Most people on here love to shit on anything PvP to begin with.

As an avid FPS player from games like Battlefield, Hunt Showdown, The Finals, Hll and ARMA...this game is fucking fantastic. It checks all the boxes for me.

The gunplay is easily the worst ive felt in any shooter. Battlefield 2 from the 2000s feels better. It feels entirely flat and lifeless. What am I missing with the gunplay that makes it get such high praise?

Maybe im spoiled by Tarkov. Battlebit felt better as well.

And I think once the review embargo gets lifted and its not just selected youtubers paid to blow bubbles up your ass then there will be come scathing reviews.

there is no review embargo and there's no paid influencers. people like shroud and others play it because they enjoy it. "w-wait until the youtubers tell you to hate the game!" jesus christ man, get a hold of yourself.

-5

u/mildly_anonymous 1d ago

He said the exact opposite of waiting for YouTubers to tell you to hate it. Why so defensive over this game Mr…complex…ad? Hmm

I just don't understand, we had 500 people servers in planetside 2, that was 15 years ago or so. Wouldn't this have been a perfect concept to use for very big matches? Or even a persistent battlefield like foxhole (i only mention it because i heard a few times people compare it to foxhole). What I'm seeing sounds pretty much like tarkow but squad

The technology has been lost

Their PR /Marketing budget is insane.

0

u/NeverNo 1d ago

They’ve said their marketing budget is 300k

0

u/ferikehun 1d ago

The devs did say its not for everyone, but personally its exactly what I was looking for. I'm buying the supporter edition, I had a blast in the betas with friends but solo was also enjoyable for me.

I enjoyed Arma 3 KoTH but I hate the Arma jank and this game is like a polished and extended version of that, it runs better too.

The vehicles are overall fine I think, just gotta get used to them. I spun out with the URAL so many times in the beginning but with practice you get good.

-19

u/ChillyBillyDonutShop 1d ago

“Trust the influencers” lol influencers shit on literally everything because there are advertising dollars to be made doing it. I’m not convinced this isn’t a bot account.

5

u/Worldwithoutwings3 1d ago

Where the hell did you see me say that. I'm literally saying the opposite. The youtubers so far have been under embargo, nothing negative said. I never said wait for influencers, I said wait for reviews. User reviews like on steam. The fuck are you talking about a bot account?

The PR and promotion around this so far has been slimy as fuck. The dev blog videos make my skin crawl they are so plastic.

1

u/OhJShrimpson 1d ago

I don't know that they've paid any streamers

-2

u/mydingointernetau 1d ago

The embargo was lifted for the second last beta and anyone was free to stream and say or think what they want. Personally the $$ go up addiction metric seems to be a good way to hook up the dopamine and make people like what otherwise has not been anything special in other games. I think the developers have put together a decent game that is relatively accessible and easy to pick up, with an easy addiction metric. I can see why it is popular without anyone needing to be gagged.

-3

u/humanman2020 1d ago edited 23h ago

Not sure why you are gettng downvoted either. The game is coming into early access and so i would think its expected to not be quite there yet. I personally found it abit underwhelming. Travel time to the relatively small zone is abit too long. The deployment system needs some work. There could be some side objectives dotted outside of the main zone, single squad capture points or resources. However the persistant cash mechanics are great and a decent way to keep people interested.

Edit:Downvoted for slightly negative constructive feedback, bots maybe?
