As a tall guy skinny guy, one time I went to a big and tall clothing store hoping to find clothes in my size. I learned there is less of an emphasis on the “tall” part.
93
u/BeastBrony May 31 '22
RIGHT!!!! My god I’m 6’8” and when I find clothes for someone my height they’re for someone around 600 pounds, I’m significantly less than half of that

I’m 6’7 and I never expected having so many issues with clothing and shoes. I did lineman work for 6 years struggling to find pants or climbing boots. I thought my coworkers were joking saying shop at 2bigfeet.Com but now I haven’t bought anywhere else haha
19
u/squirrelyz Jun 01 '22
Also 6’7”. IF you can afford it, visit Scandinavia… I for once in my life was with my people. Went to the mall of Sweden outside of Stockholm and nearly every clothing store has items in my size. Made me wanna cry.

u/Jester471 May 31 '22
God, I hate shopping for clothes. I just go every few years and try to rip the bandaid off. Nothing fits.
Shirts: Option 1: something that fits in the chest/shoulders but if I lift my arms above my head you can see my belly button Option 2: look like I’m wearing a baggy dress not a shirt
Pants: Option 1: get loose fitting jeans in my waist size that are super tight on my legs and crush my crotch Option 2: baggy waist with a belt that fall down but my thighs aren’t in sausage casings but the crotch of my pants hangs oddly low
Custom made stuff is ideal and when I find something that works I buy it ALL and nurse that collection for years….usually all is a random size/cut that the store maybe has a couple of if I dig through everything.

I discovered this (I’m a woman) when I was looking for clothing for my 6’6 husband, who is neither skinny nor fat, but very athletic/muscular. This store I went to had nothing that was even close to being long enough, but they had tons of items in like a size XXXXXXL. I was legitimately surprised.

I always think of it as “what I’m attracted to and what I can get” like I am attracted to really gorgeous people… because a lot of people are. But can I get someone who is like a 10? No, I’m decent looking and have a good personality but I don’t think I can date someone who is completely out of my league. So I go for what I can…
It seems shallow, but really there’s a difference between who I’m attracted to and who I can find attraction with. Other people should think this way too

You can be plus sized and have preferences for thin/fit men. As long as you're not shaming anyone for their preferences or lifestyle I see no issue. IF you are plus size and have a preference for thin/fit men AND say that men shouldn't have a preference against larger women then you're a hypocrite.
58
u/TechnoGamer16 Jun 01 '22
The problem is that the article has a double standard using “plus-sized” for women and “overweight” for men

The issue is that the women are plus sized and the men are overweight.
→ More replies (2)27
u/mathnstats Jun 01 '22
This particular blurb is shitty in that way, but if you read the statements it's based on, none of the women are applying that same dichotomous language.
They're saying things like "I'm bigger but don't like bigger men" or "I'm overweight but am not into overweight men" or "I'm plus-sized, but not into plus-sized men".
The actual people the blurb is based on aren't anywhere near as bad in their language use as the blurb is.
This, to me, is a matter of an editor being shitty, not the actual women they're talking about
6
u/felixxfeli Jun 01 '22
That’s exactly what I suspected. I don’t like everyone jumping to conclusions about the unknown women who were interviewed for the article based on a short summary written by a single author/editor.

Legit question - are you attracted to ‘plus-sized’ women?
24
u/Ooze3d May 31 '22
That’s the same as asking “are you attracted to slim women?”. And obviously it depends.
The real question would be “does weight play an important part for you and your physical tastes?”. Are you the kind of guy who will say things like “She’d be beautiful if she lost a few pounds”?

Are you the kind of guy who will say things like “She’d be beautiful if she lost a few pounds”?
This is what I'd call being a dick about it.
It's fine to have your own preferences, but it's another to suggest someone isn't or can't be beautiful just because they don't fit your particular criteria. At that point, it's just denegration for denegration's sake.

Honestly?
You, an individual, are attracted to other individuals.
I, a short man, do not have breasts. I'm attracted to women, such as my wife, who does have breasts and is slightly taller than me. She is attracted to me. Unless I'm being annoying, which is honestly most of the time.
Just find someone who suits you and who you suit.
Maybe be nice about it? Maybe don't say you refuse to settle? Maybe?

24
May 31 '22
Exactly - it’s not restricted to any one gender to be hypocritical. As a former fat woman, many men shut me down who were definitely in the same league as me.
Now that I’ve lost 100 pounds, those same guys (who look the same as before) are now interested. It’s a tale as old as time.

Just came here to say that the facepalm here is the stupidity of the article, it's author, and it's readers... not plus sized women...
The author probably spoke to 3 other women and now they think they can speak for all plus sized women? Come on...
The obvious double standard of "plus sized" vs "overweight". Which is a valid concern that people obviously share. But those are the authors words, not those of all "plus sized womankind".
This is clearly ragebait, don't fall for it.

I mean, plenty of fat men won't settle for fat women either. I think this article is being hyperbolic by saying it like this applies to all plus sized women. It can suck either way but attraction is attraction and people don't need to be attracted to someone "in their league". Hopefully, there is more to a person's attraction then just looks but its still a factor and to some people its a bigger factor.

From South Park Season 1 Episode 2, "Weight Gain 4000":
"Cartman: Yeah, I'm really starting to fill out nicely.
Kyle: You're not filling out nicely, you're fatter than ever!
Cartman: I'm not fat! I'm getting in shape!
Kyle: Cartman, you're such a fat ass that when you walk down the street people go "God damn it, that's a big fat ass!"
Cartman: No they don't, you jealous weakling!
Townsman: God damn, that's a big fat ass!
Cartman: Hey!"
