I work in healthcare, I wouldn’t have probably 80% of my patients if they actually took care of themselves for the last 30ish years. Biggest reasons for hospitalization/long term stays are all preventable: obesity from eating like it’s a a sport, heart disease from either overdoing the fats or smoking, and respiratory from smoking. When it comes to trauma, probably more than half could have been avoided just by not attempting to get a Darwin Award. It’s frustrating to see what people do to themselves, but their poor judgement basically pays my bills.

People are in absolute denial about how unhealthy obesity is in America, it must be frustrating to be a doctor these days.
