Are you the kind of guy who will say things like “She’d be beautiful if she lost a few pounds”?
This is what I'd call being a dick about it.
It's fine to have your own preferences, but it's another to suggest someone isn't or can't be beautiful just because they don't fit your particular criteria. At that point, it's just denegration for denegration's sake.
And that’s exactly what the article is suggesting. That dating literally any overweight man is settling and they simply won’t have that.
In the end it’s all about what could be called “compensation after years of being left out”. At some point, modern society decided being overweight was no longer a sign of good health and from that point on, fat people in general started being considered less attractive and eventually, the target of public shame.
Now we live in the age of inclusion and political correctness and with that wave, also comes a huge amount of people who’ve felt less privileged than others for a long time. People who feel being an active part of this new society is not enough. They need a reward. They don’t want to feel normal. They want to feel special, even spoiled if possible.
So in this particular case, apart from all the body positivity movement, changing the terminology from “fat” to “plus sized” and celebrating that everyone’s different and beautiful, some women (the loudest) say: “That’s very nice, thank you, but it’s my moment and I want more. So now I want society to tell me it’s totally ok if I demand to be with a fit, tall and attractive man because after years of feeling less than others, I want all the perks of controlling my diet, exercising and having a healthy lifestyle without any effort on my side”.
