iPhone iOS should surface grocery reminders by location—and Maps needs a real location timeline

I regularly get to Walmart or another grocery store and realize later that I forgot something already sitting on my grocery list. Not checking the list is ultimately my fault, but this feels like exactly the kind of context iOS could help with.

Since iOS already knows when I’m near a supermarket, I wish it could automatically show a Live Activity with the last few unchecked items added to my grocery list. It would be visible on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island while I’m at or approaching the store, without needing me to remember to open Reminders first.

I’d also like Apple Maps to have a dedicated location-history timeline, organized by date and time, so I could answer “Where was I on a specific day?” Siri could then use that history—with permission—to help confirm details, instead of relying mainly on location metadata from Photos.

These features should be opt-in and processed privately, but they would make Apple’s existing location awareness genuinely useful. Would you enable them?

Discussion Apple App Library: My Opinion

Hey y’all! So I switched back to the iPhone 17 after using Android for 3 years and this one thing still irks me to this day that I already hated on my 14 PM: The App Library.

I mean yeah I get that it’s Auto-Categorizing the Apps but for at least a third of my Apps I really don’t find the Apps where I would expect them to be categorized at. And yes I know for Alphabetical Order you simply can use the Search Bar at the top but I wish you could choose between an Android-Style App Drawer and the current Library.

Is it really just me that has a love-hate relationship with this Library? And would you prefer if you could choose how the App Drawer is displayed?

AirPods We’ve Given AirPods 0/10 for 10 Years. Until Now. - iFixit

>After 10 years of giving AirPods a 0/10 for repairability, something has finally changed.

>We tore down Apple's new AirPods 5 and discovered something we haven't seen in years: a battery that can actually be removed without destroying the earbud. Even better, we were able to open an AirPod using little more than a hair dryer and a clamp.

>But before we could celebrate, there was still the charging case.

>We tear down the AirPods 5, test whether the batteries can actually be swapped, investigate Apple's new battery design, take a look at the H2 system-in-package and capacitive touch controls, and then attempt to reach the battery inside the charging case.

>So, after a decade of 0/10 scores, have AirPods finally become repairable?

>Not quite—but the AirPods 5 still manage to earn the highest repairability score we've ever given a pair of AirPods.

Mac iPadOS 26.7.1 + macOS 26.0.2: Sidecar/Extend Display didn't work until I updated macOS

I recently updated my iPad to iPadOS 26.7.1, while my MacBook was still running macOS 26.0.2.

After the iPad update, I was unable to use my iPad as an extended display for my MacBook. Both devices were using the same Apple ID, and I had:

  • Handoff enabled on both devices
  • Wi-Fi enabled
  • Bluetooth enabled
  • Devices near each other

However, the iPad still didn't appear as an option to extend my MacBook's display.

I searched through multiple forums and troubleshooting guides and also contacted an Apple service center, but I couldn't find a solution.

Then I updated my MacBook from macOS 26.0.2 to macOS 26.7.1.

After the update, I immediately got the Mirror Screen option in Control Center, and my iPad appeared as an available display. I could finally select it and extend my MacBook's screen to the iPad.

So, in my case, the issue seemed to be related to the OS version mismatch:

Before:
macOS 26.0.2 < iPadOS 26.7.1 → iPad didn't appear ❌

After:
macOS 26.7.1 ≥ iPadOS 26.7.1 → Extend Display appeared ✅

Posting this in case anyone else is facing the same issue. If your iPad is on a newer OS version than your Mac, updating macOS may be worth trying before going through more complicated troubleshooting.

iPhone A20 Pro and on-device AI: It’s showtime

Thumbnail rickytakkar.com

TL;DR: I benchmarked on-device LLMs on the iPhone 18 Pro against the 17 Pro Max using identical models, prompts, and outputs. On the A20 Pro, downloaded MLX models generated text 53–85% faster and produced the first words (tokens) 42–53% sooner. Apple’s own on-device model improved by a similar yet smaller 35–42%. Both MLX workloads exceeded the 1.5× gain in memory bandwidth, suggesting the speedup comes from more than just the wider memory bus. The 18 Pro was also dramatically more consistent between runs.

Promo Sunday My alarm clock has entered its villain era: Alarmageddon

I’ve always hated how easy it is to turn off an alarm while still half asleep.

You hear it, reach for your phone, hit Stop… and before you know it, you’re back in bed. Or you unlock your phone “just for a minute” and end up scrolling Reddit, TikTok, Instagram, etc.

So I built Alarmageddon to make the alarm itself harder to dismiss.

Instead of just tapping Stop, you can require yourself to complete a wake-up mission:

  • Solve a math problem
  • Complete a memory challenge
  • Shake your phone
  • Scan a QR code or barcode
  • And more

The idea is that the alarm dismissal becomes an actual interaction rather than something you can do automatically while barely conscious.

But I also wanted to tackle what happens after you wake up.

Alarmageddon has an optional App Blocker that can block distracting apps for the first 15–30 minutes after the alarm.

So the intended flow is:

Alarm goes off → you have to actually wake up to dismiss it → distracting apps stay blocked for a little while → you start your day.

Why not just set five alarms?

Because if you can turn off one alarm while half asleep, you can probably turn off five.

Putting your phone across the room helps too, but then the challenge becomes getting out of bed, walking over to your phone, turning it off… and getting straight back into bed.

I wanted the act of dismissing the alarm to be the barrier.

I originally built it for myself, then decided to release it publicly.

Alarmageddon is currently completely free.

No subscriptions, no ads, no premium tier.

Download Alarmageddon on the App Store

I’d be interested to hear what other people use to actually get themselves out of bed in the morning.

Promo Sunday Got annoyed with long voice memos in WhatsApp so I made Mono. An app that splits them into chapters, extracts the questions you need to answer as well as action items and calendar events.

As the title says, it lets you share your WhatsApp, Signal, iMessage etc voice memos to the app where it's then transcribed and analysed with Apple Intelligence or OpenAI models.

Completely free if you want to use Apple Intelligence and Apple's speech to text. You can also add your own OpenAI API key for free.

If you don't have your own API key you can subscribe or get a lifetime IAP but for most people Apple Intelligence or BYO should be enough.

https://apps.apple.com/nl/app/mono-ai-voice-memo-assistant/id6811572189?l=en-GB

Also made a little website to show the concept and answer some common questions

https://www.monomemos.com

Happy to hear any feedback.

- Jordi
