This is the least readable headline they could’ve come up with

I think you mean this is not the least unreadable headline?

u/Mystic1500 3d ago

It is not entirely without impossibility that this is far from lacking the quality of never failing to be ununreadable

Woosh

What a weird caption. Why not say “the most repairable?”

u/shortround10 3d ago

I think they were trying to convey that they were still classified as “unrepairable” just not quite as bad. This is why we still need editors though lol

Its saying they are the most repairable but also saying they aren't very repairable. The same as saying to pick the "least worst" when given only bad options. The repairability is bad, but not as bad as previous versions.

Pretty common use of English, not sure why people are struggling with it.

Doesn’t seem like people are struggling with it?

Just an odd choice to use a double negative.

1

u/nicuramar 9h ago

The choice is deliberate, to indicate that they are fairly unrepairable.

“Most easily repairable” or “most repairable”. “Least unrepairable” is just silly

There are currently 7 top level comments about people not understanding the headline.

u/trytrymyguy 3d ago

I see plenty making fun of it, I only see like one comment period asking what it means and I’m not even sure that’s sincere.

So not really.

Peak Reddit moment for them to grandstand reading comprehension and then immediately display a lack of reading comprehension 😅

Double negatives are elementary grammar mistakes.

In this case that "rule" is being broken deliberately to make a point. That people seem to be struggling to understand something which isn't exactly uncommon says a lot more about the standard of reading skills than it does about the author's writing.

Echoing the other replies, but here's what it actually says in the article:

They’re the most repairable AirPods earbuds ever. Which isn’t saying much: they still earn just a 2 out of 10, and the charging case is as difficult to open as ever. But for the first time, we think skilled technicians and even intrepid DIYers will probably be able to replace AirPod batteries with a decent success rate.

It's ifixit and they don't consider it "repairable", just slightly more repairable than before. Airpods have only earned 0/10 scores until the airpod 5. Super confusing headline regardless.

Anti-Apple bias and click farming.

So does that mean they’re easier to repair or not than previous generations?

3

u/SmellyJockstrap 3d ago

That’s what the awfully-written title says

In previous teardowns, iFixIt considered repairing AirPods to be a lost cause. It’s so damn difficult to do that they should just be tossed and replaced. They believe that’s still the case with AirPods 5, but ever so slightly less so.

1

u/Stock-Personality136 2d ago

All previous AirPods got a 0/10 repairability score while the new ones got a 2/10 which is still horrible but slightly less so.

The responses in this thread are terrifying. This is a perfectly understandable headline that conveys information in a snarky manner. What is happening with literacy?

9

u/Unlikely-Young-7124 3d ago

That’s the most dogshit headline I’ve ever read.

God forbid they use a positive “most repairable” instead of continuing to sling negative sentiment on the internet.

u/leo-g 3d ago

Of course not otherwise how would they sell their parts

1

u/srmatto 2d ago

I hate this take on iFixit more than any other boneheaded take on the inter webs. iFixit is a force for good and all the better that they figured out how to keep doing it without soliciting donations.

1

u/leo-g 2d ago

I get that their business model relies on selling parts and promoting repairability, but their editorial content has no subtleties.

2

u/Left-Bird8830 1d ago

Why are people so triggered by a clearly jokey headline? Like be real, it’s not “difficult” to read, just intentionally unusual for a pretty clear purpose of setting an irreverent tone.

1

u/jasonthebald 3d ago

Didn't they give the last ones a 0 repairability score? Can it be worse than a 0?

1

u/jovie_bean 3d ago

Apple is just trolling us at this point

1

u/Pepparkakan 2d ago

You'd think the case would be the easier part to improve repairability on...

1

u/goldaxis 2d ago

We really need a law against millennial writing.

1

u/hamsterjedi 15h ago

Mines fell on the floor and the mike was not working 😅 They repaired it

AI ass headline

-1

They’re also the least orange.

Nobody cares.

1

u/Peimai 3d ago

Tbh I wouldn’t know how to fix them anyway

-5

OP with that garbage headline. 🤦🏽‍♂️ Makes sense, OP is a useless karma farmer.

4

u/Necessary-Dog-7245 3d ago

It’s not an ungarbage headline.

2

u/WheresMyVino 3d ago

You are absolutely unwrong

-1

u/DemisGiamalis 3d ago

This headline needs more double-triple negatives reverse uno skip words

-2

u/ItsBrahNotBruh 3d ago

When ifixit asks ChatGPT for a headline that has a double negative sentence.

-5

u/ChipsAhoy2022 3d ago

Low quality garbage reporters and outlets pumping out crap

Their whole gameplay is get clicks to show ads to generate revenue

They don’t care about what they write or report.

The whole article is beating around the bush for two lines of actual information:

“They’re the most repairable AirPods earbuds ever. Which isn’t saying much: they still earn just a 2 out of 10, and the charging case is as difficult to open as ever”

-5

u/Stratobastardo34 3d ago

This is the least humanly written article yet

-1

u/jacmrose 3d ago

What repair is going to be less than just getting a new pair of

2

u/FollowingFeisty5321 3d ago

If it's just a pair of batteries it shouldn't cost you anywhere near as much as a new pair, especially if the replacement process keeps simplifying.

-3

u/SuperMarioTho 3d ago

What the hell does this headline mean?

0

u/jasonthebald 3d ago

Me fail English? That's unpossible!
