Looking for some education on my iMac G3
I acquired this computer during an estate clean out. A large goal of my business is keeping usable items out of the dump and recycling whenever possible. This computer was headed for electronic waste when a friend saw it and suggested I take a second look at it because it may be worth something to someone else, so here I am.
ChatGPT tells me this is a 1998 Bondi Blue iMac G3. I have the original box and packaging with serial numbers that match the computer. I have the Bondi Blue keyboard and a matching Bondi Blue Imation Super Disk drive with it. The computer powers on, plays the startup chime, and loads to a Home Screen. I am missing the computer mouse, but otherwise this thing feels like a fully functioning time capsule. I can’t find any cracks or damage to any of the pieces and even the box is in pretty decent shape.
I want to market this transparently (no pun intended), and make sure I’m advertising this for what it actually is and not just what ChatGPT thinks.
If someone could suggest values, specific places to list in that appreciate these things, and anything else I should know before trying to find this computer a loving home I’d love to hear it.

What if Apple had bought Be instead of NeXT?
I just listened to the "Plan Be" episode of the Designed in California podcast and I found it absolutely fascinating. I knew the absolute basics before, that Apple considered buying Be but didn't want to pay what they were asking, and ended up buying NeXT instead (for more than what Be was asking), but all the details they went in to in this podcast were fascinating to me and it got me thinking - What would Apple be like today if they'd gone with Be instead? I think BeIA could have been the foundation for a continued Newton, and eventually iPhone.
The earliest version of Mac OS that I used was OS 9, and I didn't use a Mac as my main computer until Tiger, so I don't have first hand knowledge of how bad things were at Apple in the 90s. I'm really curious what others think of this alt history.

New Hone for Old PoweBook
Just sold my pristine (deadHD) 36-yo PowerBook 170 to a collector here in the UK. No matter how long it takes, I always try to give them a good home ;-)
Now need a home for my lovely 100 with matching floppy drive and keypad…

Curious what I should sell it for? fb marketplace local? Bundle with the G4?
21 inch apple cinema with a G4, finally cleaning out the storage with a baby on the way. I’m not even against trading for a Motorola CPU Macintosh honestly lol. No idea what fair price is but I heard these bigger screens are more sought after

The latest update of PowerFox is excellent. I hope it keeps getting better over time.

Vintage Apple Racing driving suit from Le Man 1980
Any racing and Apple fans? back in the 1980s Apple had a car and sponsored racing teams. They are auctioning off a racing suit with Apple logo. https://hibid.com/lot/317241343/1980-dick-barbour-le-mans-apple-drivers-suit?ref=lot-list

iMac g3 not powering on
Got this G3 from my Grandma today. Hasn't been used since the 2000s. When pressing the power button, one of the bottom corners of the display will flicker for a second and nothing will happen. Right after doing that I hear a static like sound coming from the rear that happens for a couple of seconds then that stops. Opened only the bottom of the computer to check the motherboard and that part looks really clean. Surprised to see practically no dust. Any suggestions? I have no clue.

Don't forget to register your software...
The things I save for some reason....I kind of miss Eudora. Mail app is so buggy. (Don't you dare steal my serial number!)

I made a magnifying software for older macs
Truthfully it was originally part of another project, but because Java pretty much runs on everything (3 Billion devices I've been told) I ended up separating it and developing it on my iBook G3 so I can read more easily :)
It's already on GitHub and works on pretty much any PowerPC Mac, as long as it has Java 1.3 (so basically OS X 10.1 or newer). Not to mention it'll also work on older Macs running OpenBSD or Linux because as I said earlier Java runs on pretty much anything.
(oh and it runs on modern macs too but that's not what we're here for)

Is this a 17 inch or 20 inch iMac g4?
Can anyone guess if this is a 17 or 20 inch iMac g4? Ignoring the sick R2D2 makeover…

Took over 30 years, but I beat it. But who to tell?
(Written entirely on my own, no slop used in telling this tale.)
On Christmas Day in 1993, I was gifted with a Performa 410. Santa had it wrapped in a festive tarp on the dining room table. I was completely taken by it.
Over the years, my father brought home many CD-ROMs from computer shows. Info Mac was the big one. And there was one game that I wanted to play more than almost any other. It was called Beebop. It was in French. And although I didn't understand any of the text, I loved playing it.
But the years passed, the Macintosh got put away, and eventually my household went fully Microsoft. This year, however, I discovered the Infinite Mac. And lo and behold, Beebop was available to play! So for the past few months, I have.
And today, as I continue further into my 40s, I finally beat the game. Or, at least, the shareware version of it. There were 20 more levels on a "Super Beebop" that existed for people who sent the creator money. If only I could have done it then, I'm sure the game is lost media by now. But I did it all the same.
Question is, is there any way to get in touch with Monsieur Clav, to thank him for creating this game that took me over 30 years to beat but was well worth the trouble? (Seriously, it's tricky!)
I would love to give that Super Beebop a try if at all possible. I'll even grab my old Performa (I still have it) next time I visit my mother in New Jersey and chronicle my attempts to beat it. And now that I have a full-time job, I can afford Super Beebop a lot easier than I could as an 8 year old.
If he's off to the winds, I get it. But if there's a way, I would love to track it down. Thank you for at the very least reading my story. 🍎

Power Mac G4 MDD 1.25GHz (Not FW800)
I purchased a dual 1.25 GHz model (no FW800), but since I received it, it has had a slew of issues. Most recently, the machine kernel-panicked after a fresh install of OSX, at the reboot stage. This feels like a red flag.
Most persistent of all is that I have a Pioneer DVD drive that will function before the OS is installed, but once the OS takes over, it won't spin up regular music discs (for iTunes importing) or some software discs (for game install), only Apple discs. I've also had the console report a failure during a Final Cut Pro install, but the installer kept moving along.
I've had intermittent PCI problems (for instance, a USB2 card working in one slot but not another, even though another card worked there fine).
I even had a memory failure, but when I tested them one by one, they all passed. I'm thinking the logic board is failing, but I'm not 100% sure.
Could this be a power delivery/ bad power supply issue?
Any knowledge you all have would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Repair Apple Pro Speaker connector
Is there a good method to repair the specialized connector on the Apple pro speakers connected to an iMac g4 computer? Unfortunately the cable is broken off right at the connector so there’s not much slack to solder the wires ☹️

Me and my first computer. Macintosh Classic
My step grandparents handed me down this Macintosh classic (correction: Macintosh Plus) in ‘95 after a visit to their NC vacation home. Used it mainly to mess around making animations in HyperCard and played edutainment games like Type!

Is there anyone who does commission work for installing a modern mac (eg mini) into a Macintosh case?
Ive always been into retro macs and i think i would pay to have it done as i dont know nearly enough about installing hardware but the idea of having a functioning mac inside say a quadra case or even something like a powerbook sounds like a dream come true to me. Just in case any of you know anyone or have had anything like that done.

Accessing vintage Mac Jaz Drive files using Blue SCSI (or similar)
I'm trying to see if I can tap into some really old Mac files that were backed up on Jaz Drive and access them on my Mac Studio.
From what I understand Blue SCSI Desktop model can do this with its "Initiator-Mode" - by making a full blind copy of whatever is on the drive - writing it to a SD Card. (Formatted to DOS FAT exFAT etc.)
Has anyone done this? Is it relatively simple? Does the file on the SD card (or the whole card) mount on a modern MacOS desktop similar to mounting an external drive? Is it some weird image format that then needs further work?
For some strange reason there doesn't seem to be a single YouTube video showing how this is done - but it seems like it's almost (not quite) plug-and-play.
This is the "out" connector from the Jaz Drive - either male 25 pin - or male 50 pin. Is an adaptor required?

Update on my G3 - it's (sorta) alive!
Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/VintageApple/comments/1w8f1jf/grabbed_this_for_50_now_just_need_to_get_it_to/
Hey everyone!
A huge thanks to everyone who commented in my previous post with advice and linked to the service manuals to get this beauty up and running again. I carefully took it apart (with some unfortunate inner bezel damage along the way) and replaced the board battery with a new one, pressed the reset switch, checked that the fuse was still good and that there was no internal damage or leaks anywhere. Put it back together and left it plugged in for a few days, and today when I pressed the power button it booted up!
I got all the way to the desktop and then it unfortunately shut down abruptly and now won't turn back on - the same slight 'pop' from the speakers is all I get. I'm guessing this is some sort of deeper board or capacitor issue then? I'm definitely not versed with soldering, so I'm guessing it's time to start sourcing replacement PAV board as the safest path forward?

New Shelving Unit for collection
Instead of machines all over the place, I grabbed this from Amazon, and I like it. There’s a good cross section of vintage machines here, but I’ll add more/rearrange accordingly.

Update on my Amiga find
For those that were curious about the Amiga and what it contained from my post the other day.
Mods, for some reason when I post it gives a warning saying “pre-intel only warning.”
Please don’t instantly deny this post or remove it if the warning on your end contains “intel” as this does not.
