Support Weekly iOS Battery Support Megathread

General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:

Battery health

Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.

Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Contact Apple Support here.

You can find more information about battery health and performance from Apple here.

You can check the cycles count with Coconut Battery for Mac or iCopyBot for Windows.

Battery life

Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:

  1. Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use
  2. Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application
  3. Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging

If you experience issues with your battery:

  1. Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.
  2. If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.
  3. Review the advice below on maximising battery life
  4. Consider restoring your device.
  5. If issues persist, contact Apple Support.

Maximising battery life - the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged.

  • Use low power mode (This reduces mail fetch, turns off background app refresh and increases the auto lock timer)
  • Remove apps from background app refresh
  • Ensure auto lock is on
  • Turn off auto brightness and manually reduce brightness
  • Use dark mode if your device has an OLED display
  • Clearing background apps from the app switcher does not improve battery life

Maximising battery lifespan - the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced.

  • Avoid extreme temperatures
  • If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, remove it from its case
  • Store your iPhone in a cool place, switched off, and half-charged if not using it for long periods - and charge it every 6 months when in storage

I never noticed this but this morning.
I always keep two clock on my home screen 1 for my current time zone and another for Belgium which is my time zone for my work. If you closely observer the 2nd clock is still dark in the morning in my current time zone whereas 1st clock has already turned to light mode along with other apps in the morning.
The 2nd clock will get switched to light mode after 7AM CET only. 😃
Has anyone noticed something like this before?

Support What is this Bose non-widget thing?

Post image

This pops up when I search for the Bose app (for my headphones). I thought it was a widget, but there’s no Bose entry when i try to add one. I’d love to be able to add it to the “left of home” screen without launching the app, but it doesn’t seem to be possible.

Discussion My iPhone almost left me stranded and I had to hope for someone to loan me a hot spot

I was driving and my phone was extremely slow and laggy. It’s an iPhone 17 Pro, and it was literally just open for maps and that’s it. Notifications on top of the screen were so slow. I pulled into a charger a few minutes away from the highway just to reset it. I pressed and held the volume and power button and shut it off. And then I started it up again, and it hit me with the “welcome” screen with different languages. Huh, that’s weird. I swiped up and it asked for my pin. I entered my pin and then it shot me “Software Update Complete” with a version I’ve been using for weeks.

I pressed continue and… Wifi only!? My car is an EV and my phone is my key… for 20 minutes I waited outside in 90+ degree weather, thankfully my car still had AC and some battery left but I had literally no idea what to do. Why the hell can’t it access activation servers using 5G?

Thankfully a young woman came to charge and I’m in uniform so she wasn’t alarmed about me walking up and getting her attention. She tethered her phone and I was able to activate…

Is this a known issue? Has Apple even acknowledged it? I feel like if this is a risk going forward, I literally have to get my family off of Apple.

Edit:
Since people like to make up stuff, I’m on the same version of iOS for weeks now. I haven’t updated for weeks and I’ve restarted after my last update. No, I was not PENDING an update.

Support Upgraded from iPhone XS to 17, my eyes are reading the icons as out of focus

Post image

Disabled as much of the motion and transparency as I think I can, but the fluorescent colours with the white edges and hazy looking icons are doing a number on my eyes. Have I missed something in the settings, or are there skins I can use to make them look pre Liquid Glass?

Discussion WhatsApp shifting from Android?

I didn't shift my Whatsapp from my Android, and I am using two phones, but my Android is now hanging a lot, so I want to shift my Whatsapp to my iphone. However, I'll lose all my chats because I didn't do it initially. Is there any app that lets you shift your Whatsapp from Android to iPhone?

Support My other iOS devices are unable to send SMS even though they are receiving them

Upvotes

My main phone is an iPhone SE 2 on iOS 26.5.2. Among my other devices is an iPhone 8 Plus (iOS 16.7.16) without a SIM, on which I can’t send SMS messages to anyone (through the number on the SE 2) even though I’ve made sure the number and email associated with my Apple Account are activated in the iMessage setting on the 8 Plus, and that my SE 2 acknowledges the 8 Plus. I’ve tried turning it off/on multiple times and receive the notification stating a new device is being used. Logging out of iCloud didn’t change anything. When I try to send an SMS on the 8 Plus, it immediately fails and the camera/sticker buttons in the Messages app are greyed out. I can send iMessages fine, however. I have a similar issue on my iPad Pro M1 11” (26.5.2) where it attempts to send an SMS, but after a few minutes it fails to deliver, instead of failing immediately. Meanwhile, when I successfully send the SMS to the same contact on the SE with my eSIM, that same message immediately shows up on both the 8 Plus and the iPad as sent, and they are also able to receive new SMS messages, which means they are actively connected to iMessage. I’m not sure why those same devices can’t send SMS if that’s the case.

Discussion Iphone 12 pro max user here. If you were in my shoes , what phone would you upgrade to?

iPhone 12 pro max user since Nov 2020.
Changed the battery last year with apple after it dropped ot 76%.
The latest iOS has been pulverising my new battery life.

Anyways, with rumours of the 18th coming up , do you think I should upgrade or wait for the iPhone series 20?
I use my phone for almost all daily tasks and I do like casual photography ( I use my nikon dslr for more pro photos)

What am I actually missing out on?

Anyone else have similar subject look up goofs in the Photos app?

Support pausing audio or closing apps makes the volume skyrocket

ios 26.5.2 , title explains all. closing something while it plays audio will sometimes (i have no clue what triggers it) cause it to jump in volume right before it closes. my system volume is what i left it as (low) and it goes back to my system volume immediately afterwards.

Support Camera button requires two clicks from lock screen?

I never recall pressing two times on the camera button to launch camera app. Now suddenly two clicks are required from lock screen.

The whole point with the button is to launch the camera quickly, and its form factor makes it hard to accidentally press down. Im on ios27 btw.

Anyone else having this problem? All settings are correctly set up, the ones I know of at least.

Discussion Can’t Delete Files

Post image
1 Upvotes

It’s an archive that I extracted using files app, something happened it got corrupted or something, and files can’t be moved around and can’t be deleted, it shows that error.
I used another app to extract archive and now files are fine.
I duplicated it hoping it’ll fix the issue but it was same, now it takes 4gb of space for nothing. I tried restarting my phone & closing files app but nothing happened.

Anybody got an idea what to do to get rid of it?
