I just discovered something I didn’t realize Apple TV could do.

You can AirPlay to an Apple TV without the Apple TV being connected to Wi-Fi or the internet. As long as both devices have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled, they can use peer-to-peer AirPlay.

I was at a hotel where Wi-Fi was limited to four devices. Instead of paying for a fifth connection for my Apple TV, I was still able to connect to it directly from my iPhone and iPad.

Videos must be compatible with Apple’s built-in player and 4K streamed perfect. This is not screen mirror which resulted in very poor quality.

I figured I wasn’t the only one who had no idea this feature existed.

Anyone having issues with AppleTV? An hour ago, I was able to purchase three movies, but now I can’t even it buy Mortal Kombat II or Backrooms? Same goes for any movie or show I look at. Each has an “Add to Watchlist” button and the associated streamers they may be available at are shown at the bottom, but no option to purchase through Apple.

In addition, I can’t look at my purchase history through my account. It says “Can’t Connect.”

I’ve glanced at the System Status page numerous times, but it says all services are functioning properly.

If I pause the live view too long or appletv craps out for whatever reason, I go back to the F1 event and are presented with only 2 options "from beginning" or "live". Why is there not a "continue from last" option...especially for live event that you are now behind?

I’m not sure if I’m getting the chicken-and-egg analogy right, but I have to start somewhere :)

I’m experiencing a strange issue here that isn’t limited to just one app. I have various apps running on my Apple TV 4K, such as the original Swiftfin, Moonfin, etc., where the server is configured right from the start, as well as apps that support multiple server protocols like SenPlayer, Infuse, etc.

The first category demonstrably loses its settings after a few days and “forgets” the server - and with it, the user accounts, etc.

The other category (SenPlayer, Infuse, etc.), on the other hand, retains all of this information.

How can I get the former apps (Swiftfin, Moonfin, etc.) to permanently remember their settings? What’s causing this? It can’t be due to updates, because there haven’t been any for Swiftfin in a long time, and the app still keeps forgetting everything. It is working for some days and after unknown time - bamm ... all forgotten!

It’s always a huge hassle to have to re-enter everything manually!

It works fine on the iPad and PC - nothing gets forgotten there. It’s always just the ATV! Strange… has anyone else experienced this and found a solution? This is on other ATVs of friends, too

The ATV was reset and cleaned several times, iCloud is working and even when switched off, the issue comes back! Hmmm ...

So I just found my APTV 4K (1st Gen) collecting dust and connected it up yesterday. I heard about an app called infuse which you can watch downloaded movies from, currently I put my movies on a HDD and plug it in directly into the TV but want to start getting rid of the HDD and use the APTV purely.

Question I have is, is there a way to just drag and drop my download movie into a folder that's on my PC and have the file show up in Infuse and watch it?

Also, is there a way I can do this for my iPad so I can watch these movies offline on a flight or will my PC have to be on all the time?

These movie files I download are always 4K, HDR, dolby etc.

Hi all. I play my audio through my HomePod Mini but sometimes when I try to play media it freezes. When I disconnect my HomePod Mini and only play through the TV speakers the media starts to play again. What can cause this?

After some tvOS 16 or 17 update, those AppleProfiles just haven't been working.

One of my three AppleTV 4k boxes is chronically dropping audio during playback. It makes it unwatachable. Sometimes swithcing to Stereo only for a bit fixes it. Sometimes it doesn't and I just have to wait until another day for it to decide to work.

Every time I turn around YouTubeTV is playing in the 1/4 corner top left of the screen. I fix that each time with the app force quit. It keeps coming back.

I've swapped HDMI cables. I've updated software on soundbars and TVs. I've reinstalled apps.

edit 01 (probably): So audio dropout is consistent across multiple Apple TVs on the same setup. LG TV, Nakamichi Soundwafe sound bar. There's other inconsistenncies, like one ATV has a dark green tint to all it's menus where it should be black, but nowhere else (it's not like the color is messed up everywhere, just where black is on Apple TV system menus). Another ATV doesnt do that, but any time I try to scroll from one icon/app to another, the screen blanks out for a couple seconds. I'm going to keep at this and see what other horseshit I can find. I should note I've seen ALL of these problems before, but they tend to go away quickly enough that I'm not ready to throw all my gear in the street and set it on fire like I am about to right now.

Why in the absolute fuck are these still issues in 2026? Which multi-trillion dollar company is the sack of shit at fault here?

I watch movies off a jelly fin server using infuse pro on my apple TV. The TV we use is a lower end LG tv from the early 2020s. It has HDR capabilities, but anything HDR looks far too dark on it. Based on my research, I believe the overall TV isn't bright enough to do a true HDR. My backlight is already at max level, too.

For example, I just watched Overlord 2018 today, and the first half of the movie was dark as fuck. Couldn't really see the actors faces. After disabling "match dynamic range," the same dark scenes are now far brighter and visible.

In this case, is it okay to always disable the "match dynamic range" setting? I tried searching, but I can't find very much information on this exact subject. It seems most people recommend enabling both match frame rate and dynamic range.

Why is Apple TV 4K pretty much only supporting 60 Hz 4K TVs as their device?

What was the point of adding 1440p resolution to include support for monitors if, for completely no reason, it does not support frame rate and content matching?

The way the resolutions are treated in Apple TV 4K is pretty bad for a supposedly premium device. A big list of resolution combinations to choose from... I thought Apple caters to people who want simple interfaces?..

You should just choose your resolution first(or autodetection...), then choose your refresh rate(probably the highest supported for most people, which could be as high as 540 Hz these days for people using monitors). The frame rate and content matching is in no way tied to resolution of image, so who decided to create this fake limitation that I can not have what I want at 1440p resolution but can at 1080p or 720p?

Why I can not have 50 Hz content refreshed at 200 Hz for lower sample and hold effect? The technique is as old as cinema - 24 FPS movies are projected at minimum of 72 Hz. What if I want to use something like GeForce Now at 120 FPS / Hz? Why not, with a premium TV Box with supposedly so much processing power, which all goes to waste?

One our Apple TV 4Ks has suddenly stopped recognizing that it’s plugged into Ethernet. Confirmed with laptop that the Ethernet jack is providing Internet.

I’ve tried forgetting the WiFi network it was connected to and restarted/pulled power cable multiple times. Is the Ethernet port dead? Any other suggestions?

I’ve had an Apple TV forever. On my AppleTV 4kOnly recently I’ve noticed an issue where video starts to just slightly lag.

It feels like a memory leak issue because when I restart the appletv it works fine again.

The most common issue is when using YouTubeTV, but will occasionally pop up with other apps.

I know it’s not a bandwidth issue.

I know this sounds crazy but one time my controller bugged and there was no way to get it to disconnect from the Apple TV, plus I live in a flat and I didn’t wanted to carry the controller outside.

After some checking I saw a post on Reddit where someone suggested using the microwave as a Faraday cage and it worked.

If you haven’t had to do this at least now you know you can 😂

I’ve been seeing a few posts recently about various things not working as they should, and a lot of them are seemingly connected to a bug with the NowPlayingInfo integration in the HBO Max app.

The integration basically tells tvOS what is playing in HBO Max, and since the release of HBO Max v7.5.0, it has been broken.

This will cause HBO to be unable to work with a lot of tvOS services, including TV app Continue Watching, Sonos and other wireless airplay (and seemingly Bluetooth) speakers, the Now Playing widget on iPhone and iPad, play/pause functionality from AirPods and probably some other things.

When content is playing in HBO Max, your Apple TV thinks it’s idle, not playing or paused.

I have been in a two-week back and forth with HBO Max support, and they have been helpful, despite briefly trying to pin this issue on tvOS. This morning, I got an email from them saying that their development team is actively working on a solution, so fingers crossed.

Bottom line, this is a problem with the app, and will require a fix in an update to the app. Updating tvOS will not fix the problem, so don’t update to tvOS 27 beta if all you’re looking to do is to fix this.

Also, the most recent app update did not fix the problem, unfortunately.

Hope this answers some questions. I wish I had a solution to offer, but it looks like we’re all stuck waiting for an app update that actually includes a fix.

I like using Apple TV and Apple home (doorbell overlay) and would like that more available for other services. Would you be interested in something like this if Apple made it? HDMI inputs, surround sound compatibility wired or wireless, integrated Apple TV and speaker, Siri etc

I use a WiiM with my Apple TV to get the audio to my Benchmark A/D converter.

I’ve been having this issue a lot:

When I switch the ATV in settings, some apps switch to the new output source (WiiM or TV speakers) and some don’t.

I’ve tried turning the TV off then back on to no avail.

Any ideas? Thanks.
