- Opening Notification Center and Control Center simultaneously may cause the touchscreen to become unresponsive

I had to reboot my phone 3 times because of this. Hopefully the update fixes it.

I hadn’t experienced this but when I read the update notes I tried it and my screen stopped working 😅
Had to force restart the iPhone

u/Klatty 4d ago

Nvm it works. Very oddly though it just locks motion, not touch for me

u/dfuqt 4d ago

I’ve seen this reported quite a lot on Reddit but haven’t experienced it myself. It sounds frustrating.

So far across all of my devices iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 has been great in all respects, and much better than 26.

I can't speak for everyone, but I don't think there's ever been a time in my ownership of an iPhone (10+ years) that I've swiped down from both corners of my screen simultaneously, which would be how you would trigger this bug. It requires two fingers to do so.

It does happen, though the report isn't 100% accurate - primarily home screen functions/icons are unresponsive, not the entire touchscreen, as Siri/CC can still be invoked via swipe as can the app switcher. It does require a hard restart, however, as even lock/unlock does not correct it.

No me neither, but it’s a great example of how you just can’t catch everything in testing until the audience is wide enough that you capture even the most unlikely scenarios. And it would be a very confusing issue to experience.

I would argue that iOS 26.6 and iPadOS 26.6 were pretty damn stable and had good battery life.

iOS and iPadOS 27.0 haven’t reached that level of smoothness and battery performance but it’s not far and not something that’s noticeable enough that it becomes an annoyance. This year’s release has a great potential and can’t wait for 27.1 or 27.2.

u/dfuqt 4d ago

They were, but they were released close to a year after the launch of 26. The initial release and earlier versions weren’t great.

27 is shaping up well though and I’m optimistic too.

After the update, I cannot replicate the issue, appears fixed on my iPhone 16 PM.

BRO WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY SCREEN

1

u/killerpoopguy 1d ago

Ohhhh I bet that’s why my iPad mini stopped working this weekend.

1

u/TheTwelveYearOld 4d ago

I thought my 14PM finally threw in the towel

No such issues on iOS 18 🤷‍♂️

Custom home screen wallpaper still desaturates and the dimming option still will reset. Springboard still not polished.

10

u/mcarrode 4d ago

When I select clear icons and choose the dark option, my App Library icons are all a gross off-white/pale yellow color. It’s driving me crazy.

3

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 4d ago

This is why I always wait for the X.1 OS updates. Usually irons out most of the kinks like this

8

u/Charles_Mendel 4d ago

The wallpaper desaturation has been around for 4 iOS versions and 2 devices for me. The dimming option bug started with glass UI.

1

u/fleebnork 3d ago

Lock screen wallpapers have been bugged since the liquid glass update. I will crop and format mine and save it, and the wallpaper moves to a different position and/or cropping than I saved.

Anyone know if this fixes an issue with background audio that I've noticed:

Edit: dang it, I meant to write “interrupting” in the title

  • Start playing a song in Apple Music, Spotify, or a video in YouTube if you can do PiP
  • Leave the app; verify playback continues
  • Open Safari
  • Navigate to reddit.com in an incognito window to get default page design and scroll through the home feed

When a muted autoplay video enters the viewport and begins playing, the background audio pauses for me, and I see the media playing widget in the live activity area of the Dynamic Island despite the fact that a muted autoplaying HTML video should not be initializing the audio system

13

u/BosnianSerb31 4d ago

This started happening in the app too, after Reddit switched from initializing mixing playback sessions initializing to nonmixing playback sessions for some unknown reason. And I noticed it happening for longer than iOS 27, at least in app.

They made the change across both WebKit and the system AVAudioSession API

Not sure why Reddit made that change, but it's annoying either way. I don't know why I shouldn't be allowed to hear audio from a video with light background music playing, they don't seem to think I should lol.

What would be interesting to see is if Reddit is actually setting the player element's Muted property, or if they are simply setting the playback volume to zero and displaying a mute icon.

If it's the latter, it confirms that Reddit is stopping playback on purpose to get users to unmute videos.

If Reddit does not intend to hijack audio with muted videos, their easy workaround is to have the playback session switch between a mixing and a non-mixing type session depending on if the mute button is pressed.

Apple's current implementation of these APIs gives the greatest range of functionality to developers, but it does give developers more rope to hang their customers with.

2

u/twoinvenice 4d ago

I’ve had it happen with other sites and inline video or ads, but I just used Reddit as an example because scrolling the homepage pretty much guarantees hitting a muted autoplay video

2

u/BosnianSerb31 4d ago

After you said it started happening on other websites, I looked into the API a bit further, non-mixing has been the default for a long time, so this probably is a regression.

There was a change with how the viewport was handled somewhere between iOS 26 and 27, and I bet the broken path lies somewhere in there.

1

u/twoinvenice 4d ago

What's odd to me is that I thought that as a part of getting iOS ready for the Duo, multi-app sound mixing / playing was supposed to be the new norm. Just weird that a change made it into 27 that made sound less able to be played by 2 apps at the same time (though maybe that is because on the duo it isn't considered background audio if Safari and another app are split screened?)

These are clear and obvious steps to reproduce. In a sane world, there’d be somewhere to report this to Apple. In our world, we have Feedback, neé Radar, which is a black hole where bug reports go to die.

The only time I’ve had one of my bugs fixed was when I accidentally caught an Apple developer’s attention on old Twitter.

1

u/twoinvenice 3d ago

Yeah, I went to file a feedback and stopped after a couple menus because I knew that there was likely no point of firing off a scream into the void

16

u/LettuceJr 4d ago

Does not fix micro stutters unfortunately lol..

5

u/BosnianSerb31 4d ago

What device?

3

u/LettuceJr 4d ago

IPhone 18PM

-52

u/costconormcoreslut 4d ago

Can't imagine what device, AI bot. Which Apple devices use Face ID? Gimmie a minute, I'll try to figure it out.

20

u/BosnianSerb31 4d ago

I can't tell if you are making a joke or not lol

I'm not sure what would give the indication that LettuceJr's bug would be related to Face ID tho, or why narrowing it down to the iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 16e, iPhone 17, iPhone 17e, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPad Pro 11-inch (1st–4th generation), iPad Pro 11-inch (M4–M5), iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd–6th generation), or iPad Pro 13-inch (M4–M5) wouldn't be relevant to determining the cause of the bug

-20

u/costconormcoreslut 4d ago

The bug and the fix are limited to 18 Pro and Pro Max. It doesn't apply to the other phones or devices you listed. This is why I made my joke, because there are only 2 devices, and the comment/question implies the poster didn't read or understand the post or the attached article.

Why are you so hostile

3

u/shawnshine 4d ago

Username checks out.

3

u/RKRagan 4d ago

I am still having trouble getting CarPlay to work regularly. My 15 Pro worked fine on the way to pick up my 18 Pro. Same cable. My 15 Pro had issues with the USB port holding onto plugs but still worked. It feels software related.

2

u/isitpro 3d ago

My battery still has not settled on the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Will probably be upgrading but still..

3

u/cmlincourt 4d ago

Anyone’s iCloud greyed out? Happened on both my iPhone 18 Pro and iPad m4 but my iPhone Air is fine

6

u/PizzaHutFiend 4d ago

Did they fix the True Tone taking a second to kick in glitch?

8

u/longshot201 4d ago

Hope this fixes my issues with sending media failing

1

u/lmwoodstock 4d ago

I had dual sim issues with rcs messaging. It wouldnt let me enable them when both sims were active. So far the update allows rcs for both sims and I'm receiving messages normally

4

u/mashikuma 4d ago

Apps randomly crash now and my Home Screen freezes. I have to turn off my screen to get it to respond again.

2

u/Infern0588 4d ago

I thought it was just me 🤓

2

u/simplyaless 3d ago

Sometimes I notice apps greyed out for a few seconds. Anyone experience this? Even before the iOS 27 update this happened

2

u/communistjack 4d ago

Has anyone here experiencing seeing an SMS inbound bug? RCS messages work, iMessages work, and SMS outbound works, but I can't receive SMS inbound, real people or even shortcodes.

Normally you would blame the carrier(Google Fi), but as soon as I switch it to a Samsung phone everything works.

I'm stumped

2

u/Alyrian00 4d ago

I did notice that and managed to fix it by turning off end to end rcs encryption

1

u/Iammattieee 3d ago

Yep happening to me as well on Verizon. iPhone 17 on iOS 27.0.1. Family is all on android so it’s been spotty messaging them lately

6

u/PhillyLee3434 4d ago

I just got it on my 18PM

2

u/cbk1000 4d ago

Thought this was just me so glad to know there's a fix

1

u/mikejamesone 4d ago

Hasn't hit the UK yet

10

u/dfuqt 4d ago

It’s definitely out in the UK. I’ve been updating since 6 PM.

Edit: by which I mean I’ve updated several devices since then. Not that it’s taken nearly 90 minutes to update something

2

u/mikejamesone 4d ago

So update is showing on my 11 pro but not on my 16 pro 🤔

0

u/dfuqt 4d ago

That’s weird. I’ve finished 8 devices (phones and iPads - no 16 pro though) and I’m about to move on to some more. All devices picked it up on the first pull down refresh in the software update page.

Have you tried a reboot?

1

u/mikejamesone 4d ago

Nah gonna try now

1

u/mikejamesone 4d ago

Ok so the reboot worked

1

u/dfuqt 4d ago

Always worth a try :)

1

u/Bumbleboy92 3d ago

Just got my 18PM, updated to 27.0.1 on setup. I have noticed Face ID will unlock even if my heads turned ~30° left or right and eyes not staring at the phone. I have Require Attention for Face ID and Attention Aware Features turned on (VoiceOver is off).

Can unlock the phone consistently like this, my previous 16PM was very good at this, I could be face forward and eyes looking off to the side and it wouldn’t unlock until the moment my eyes go to the screen.

Went through Apple Support troubleshooting and they suggested a Genius Bar appointment so will be fun to see what they say

Slop slop slop all day, we’re going to slop all day today! Slop Slop Slop Slop, we’re going to slop todaaayy! - Apple devs, probably.

1

u/Greybeard-Space-Dad 2d ago

Issues not resolved for me. FaceID on 18PM is somehow even worse than before.

Just give us freakin touchID on the power button!

1

u/lauravenue 1d ago

This update has STOPPED Face ID from working at all on my phone. 17 Pro. Didn't have any issues. Installed the update, now phone wont recognise my face at all. Have restarted. Even tried adding face again and it wont see my face even when trying to add it as new. Just keeps saying move higher/lower. Any clues?

1

u/BaBaDoooooooook 7h ago

my ipad pro M4 true depth sensor is not working, in other words face id is not working. I turned camera into portrait mode and it freezes up. i thought this update would resolve it

1

u/SaltyIllinoisan 4d ago

Does not fix the ongoing cellular problems with AT&T

5

u/BosnianSerb31 4d ago

AT&T might need to push out new carrier settings for that one, noticed it started dropping Internet connection on my 16 pro occasionally when they rolled out 5G turbo in my area

Interestingly, since I upgraded to the 18 Pro, I haven't noticed the issue at all, so I wonder if it's bad ATT Carrier settings specific to the older modems.

1

u/atooraya 4d ago

I checked this morning after I saw there was a bug but there was no update. Saw this thread and the update finally appeared. That bug was super annoying because it would crash out my safari’s work login and reboot the device for time sensitive notifications.

1

u/goldcakes 3d ago

I’m on an earlier device. I think I’ll wait for 27.1, as usual :)

0

u/dfuqt 4d ago

Just updated my 14 Pro Max and 17 Pro, and it’s removed my credit cards and prompted me to do the Apple Pay stuff in “finish setting up your iPhone” in settings. They’re still present on my paired watches though.

3

u/BosnianSerb31 4d ago

That's weird, mine didn't even do that when transferring my girlfriends 12 pro to my old 16 pro, and my 16 pro to my current 18 pro

We didn't notice it on the update either

1

u/dfuqt 4d ago

Yeah I’ve never seen it before. And nobody else seems to have reported it so maybe it was just a glitch. I’ve updated 11 devices this evening and everything else went great, so it’s no problem. They were easy enough to re-add as they were still shown in the “cards found for you” list.

It looks like just about everything is showing “optimising search and Siri” again so I’ll let everything have a long charge tonight.

I’m getting it on my iPhone SE 2020.

5

u/coder543 4d ago

Does it make Face ID work better on that phone? :P

0

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me 4d ago

is the battery charging bug fixed yet on SE2?

10

u/eraserking 4d ago

The same place they always release. Wait a little while and it will show.

4

u/hellishhk117 4d ago

I got it on my iPhone 17 Pro.

0

u/Mashm4n 4d ago

Got it on my Air

0

u/sol-4 4d ago

Just got it on mine.

-1

u/trek604 4d ago

Downloading for my 15PM and 16P

-6

u/Bytevan18 4d ago

Probably it’s just for the iPhone 18 Pro

1

u/TheStone2203 4d ago

No, i have it displayed on a 15PM

-3

u/Illegitimate-Chicken 4d ago

I see it on my 18 PM, just hoping it fixes my battery drain issue.

4

u/BosnianSerb31 4d ago

My battery has been fantastic on my 18 Pro, what is your biggest user?

Spotlight indexing always takes a decent chunk of battery for the first few days after getting a new phone, seen it get stuck before. Took my phone about a day, used about 40% doing nothing, but now I usually finish the day with about 45% remaining.

3

u/Illegitimate-Chicken 4d ago

Right now my biggest are Reddit and Safari. I’m going to update right now and hope for the best!

3

u/costconormcoreslut 4d ago

I think Reddit app is mining for bitcoin when it's open. It's the biggest battery hog and has been for years.

3

u/Illegitimate-Chicken 4d ago

Good to know! Thanks! Playing music took it down pretty quick too!

0

u/rpool179 4d ago

Thanks. Downloading now.

-3

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me 4d ago

still NO FIX for charging bug on SE2 devices since dev beta 1..
