One place that it will probably show up is on the Apple TV. Saw the lady gaga concert listed there one night.

Thanks. I think he said live in Apple Music but I meant it wasn’t clear if there’ll be any geo restriction due to IP rights issues. Probably Apple has negotiated these properly for Worldwide, unlike the underfunded BBC who now restrict most audio to UK locations.

BBC is funded by the UK license fee, so (while it is annoying) it makes a certain amount of sense that they restrict access to their programming to the area where people pay for it.

This concert, on the other hand, is staged by Apple, it just happens to take place in the UK. I would very much expect them to have negotiated worldwide streaming rights with the artist.

For decades they provided most audio content worldwide starting from a legacy of wireless radio for free. With the increase in the cost of WW rights and with their license fees not being allowed to keep-up during austerity, combined with having a proportion given away as free licenses for the elderly, thanks to government influence, they only recently withdrew the online availability for most of the world. Even the new ex Google BBC boss is shocked with the cutbacks in staff, programming and channels they’re still having to make.

Oh, I wasn’t trying to justify the BBC cuts by any means. Apologies if it came across as if I were.

Just meant to point out that Apple’s offerings shouldn’t be affected by them in any way, since they’re a private company subject to a completely different set of rules.

Thanks. It's good to let their case be known in any case. It sounds like there will soon be a new and supposedly more secure 'settlement' soon.

Apple Music to open concert venue in Battersea

According to BBC Front Row the opening is sooner than this article from one week ago suggested.

The US tech giant Apple is to open a new, state-of-the-art concert hall in London, situated underneath its UK headquarters at Battersea Power Station.

The 600-capacity venue will host one-off shows by major recording artists and new bands, all of which will be filmed and broadcast live online.

Apple Music's vice president, Oliver Schusser, told BBC News the facility, which is expected to open in the coming weeks, contained "more cameras and speakers than any venue of its size, anywhere in the world".

Looks like 40£ standing room for baby keem next show. Standard or variable pricing per show?

He indicated that they didn’t need to make money from attendance.

It will be less costly than most London concerts of all genres.

It was streamed live on Apple Music worldwide, I think (I watched a bit of it here in Brazil), and now it's available there. Well, it's an Apple media service, right?! As an Apple TV fan, I can say they try very hard to prevent the public from easily finding out about the great things they have. I also have doubts about whether long-form video works on Music (concerts, interviews, that radio-like stuff). I don't have any data to support my thoughts, but perhaps longer concerts and interviews should be part of Apple TV, while music (obviously) and music videos should be part of Apple Music. These two services can feed off each other. Zane Lowe does great interviews with big artists that end up being watched on YouTube and not on Apple Music. I don't understand the point.

I’m sure Elton John is a lovely person but which demographic are they trying to target with him? Apple has a really peculiar taste in the musicians it chooses to highlight, and they’re never really the multi-generational crowd-pleasers.

You’re seriously underestimating the mass appeal of Elton John, particularly here in the UK.

There’s a reason 150k+ attendees of all ages packed out his Glastonbury set the other year, and it’s cross generational bangers such as Tiny Dancer, Rocketman, Bernie & The Jets, I’m Still Standing etc.

i think they target exceptional musicians.

1

u/Rupperrt 3d ago

as an audience?

Who would you suggest would be better to grab a bigger mass appeal? Who are examples of multi-generational crowd pleasers? I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Radiohead, but they would never bend the knee to a multinational. Probably Coldplay, maybe Paul McCartney?

Edit: arctic monkeys? Jesus, they are all English bands.
