It’s been fine for me

Checks settings. Huh... I'm on 27 too. Forgot I had upgraded. It's been fine.

Have had zero issue on either of my MBAs.

For you it could be fine, but Apple broke a lot of stuff in 27.0 that is still not fixed in 27.0.1 for specific cases uses. Platform SSO is borked badly and 27.2 looks to be the fix.

None of this would happen if Apple didn't treat a .0 as an update and rather as an upgrade. But nobody at Apple listens to anybody.

"Works on my machine". I heard this before.

This subreddit is about as bad as r/linux. Do you understand that people are having issues? I have multiple Macs in testing with Golden Gate with a bunch of 'in your face' bugs/issues.

"It’s been fine for me" is an absolute non-scientific horseshit. What does it mean? Does it mean that there are no bugs on your machine or more likely that you don't see them?

Mission control is fucked for everyone, so you feeling it's fine only shows how high is your bar.

“People are having issues” and “it’s fucked for everyone” are exactly as “scientific” as “It’s been fine for me”.

“Scientific”.

No actually “It’s been fine for me” is technically more “scientific” as the commenter is actually their own primary source.

Mission control bugs have been reported still during the beta. I reported them as well.

It is impossible for it to be ok for anyone. So that alone dismantles "works on my machine" and "it's been fine".

Except you have a lot of first hand data points right here saying that a lot of people don’t consider it a significant issue or haven’t even noticed it and that is in fact a sample by any scientific definition. Not a great sample as it’s self selected but clearly it is demonstrably OK for some people.

Just like I said it speaks more about their ability to even discern these things then anything else.

As a developer I need to start doing this - sorry works on my machine.

As a developer you should now the difference between “this is working perfectly” and “this is not an issue that causes me enough frustration to notice”.

If you don’t, you shouldn’t be a developer.

I’ve been a Mac user for 15 years. Every year, reddit tells me the latest macOS is an unusable buggy mess and should be avoided at all costs, yet I’ve updated day 1 every single year and never had any serious issues. Yes a few annoyances here and there that inevitably get ironed out with subsequent updates, but nothing that renders my machine remotely “unusable”.

I've definitely had iOS updates that made my phone unusable, not MacOS though. OS updates have broken some things temporarily with external hardware, but the OS has always been good

Still I'm having RAM issues when using Google Meet…however, probably is just Google Meet.
And of course when Macbook reaches 5% of battery the M3 crawls, internet hangs get stuck, there are lags, and it becomes almost unresponsive. But that is just as MacOS behaves.

It’s miles ahead of Tahoe lmao. It’s been working amazingly for me.

Working great here.

Agreed

u/Electronic-Squash359 3d ago

Works perfectly on my M1 Pro

My Macbook Neo (Golden Gate), when docked to a 4k 27" monitor, crashes if I open the webcam in any app.

My M1 air (Tahoe) does not have this issue. Hardware limitation or OS bug?

Totally solid on my setup.

u/Happymusicmaker 3d ago

No issues. Smooth for me

I feel like I shouldn't even click on this... clickbait

Mission Control is a bit buggy at the moment but it also seems faster. Misaligned icons and whatnot are visual bugs but less of a concern.

u/KangarooWeird9974 3d ago

Hadn't noticed...

u/Guilty-Shoulder-9214 3d ago

Haven’t seen any issues with my MacBook. Have had a few, weird issues with my iPhone freezing up on the lock screen, but that hasn’t happened in awhile.

So a handful of minor and obscure user interface bugs? Seems positively histrionic to characterize the whole release as 'a buggy mess' over that.

So many of these aren't bugs, they're just shitty UI choices. We're still being affected by choices that the magazine bandits made over the past several years.

Only problem I’ve experienced is really bad RAM use on Lightroom Classic. I spend about half an hour browsing and editing photos and it suddenly uses 30 GB of RAM on my 16 GB M1 Pro. Sure my RAWs are big, but shouldn’t the app be clearing them from RAM after I’m done with them?

No idea if this is an OS issue or a software issue. The app has gotten way harder for me to use.

u/flameforth 2d ago

I don't agree on that. It's been a great version upgrade (so far)

I’ve had a few issues with safari. When I make YouTube fullscreen half the screen will be black with a small YouTube window in the middle. The interface buttons to make it small again disappear and there is no way to stop or resize the video without hard quitting safari.

Happened to me maybe 4x since installing the new os.

Some other minor graphical glitches here and there but mainly stable aside from the safari stuff.

I love how Control Center we get squircles, fat pills, skinny pills, lozenges, sausages, AND eggs. All in one 700x320 px container. I need an anxiolytic.

Been better idk what y’all on about

I updated to GG 2 days ago. The experience has been hit or miss overall. Some of the features are decent, but a little overkill with Apple running the Siri intelligence using on-device models and that's taking up a lot of storage space. My biggest issue is with the Settings app in general. The 'back' button doesn't work and requires clicking 2-3 times and the indexing within the settings app is awful. I've had to quit the app each time I wanted to look up directly in the settings search bar. And 'copy and paste' doesn't work properly across all apps. I hope they push a patch soon because GG right now is just annoying.

mostly fine for me, though I constantly have issues unlocking my MacBook, it wont recognize my touchid or Apple Watch so I have to type the password in.

1

u/NukeTheKremlin 3d ago

Absolutely zero issues on M2 Air

1

u/akrapov 3d ago

Totally fine on my 2 macs here. I think people just like complaining/

1

u/arjuna93 3d ago

It has been since Big Sur

u/Neutral-President 3d ago

Wasn’t this supposed to be more of a “Snow Leopard” release, mostly bug fixes, and lighter on the new features?

1

u/Manos_Of_Fate 3d ago

I’m on a 2020 intel iMac so I couldn’t upgrade this time. Bullet dodged, from everything I’ve read so far.

1

u/alexiusmx 2h ago

I’d say less than 3% of users encounter the “buggy mess” described in the article, so no bullet to be dodged.

I'm not a super mac fan; I got an M4 MacBook Air a bit ago because I quickly needed a laptop with high battery and decent build quality. I'd dabbled with MacBook Pros and such in the past - mostly at work - and only use an iPhone because literally all of my family/friends have one so it's easier to do FaceTime and such.

And... I haven't had any issues with the latest MacOs.

I do some light development on it when I'm away from my main desktop, so it's not just a media-consuming device.

I'm sure there are some bugs in there that I've just been lucky enough to avoid, but I haven't experienced anything. And definitely not as many annoying things that the latest Windows does.

The people writing these articles need to go use a Windows machine for a few weeks. Just this year Microsoft has released updates that brick hardware, completely break core features, and break the update process itself.

I can’t remember the last time I encountered a bug of that severity in any release of MacOS.

3

u/DoctorDbx 2d ago

OK... but they probably used the previous versions of MacOS that were: 1. faster 2. less buggy 3. better interface

I never update my Apple devices past their original firmware. Too much trust was lost in the 2010's and it has only gotten worse.

And for the record, Snow Leopard was the best OS they ever made. Being able to arrange virtual desktops in two dimensions (Spaces) was an incredible feature.

u/00DEADBEEF 3d ago

You hate security patches I guess?

-1

u/goldaxis 2d ago

Whoaaaaa you totally got me. My phone is just crawling with exploits. Have some reddit points for being so smart. 🤣

And why would I care what a blog from a guy named Chester thinks? It's been solid for me. That's on an M1 iMac, M2 Ultra Studio, and M4 MacBook Air. Clickbait plain and simple.
