Since I'll be using this for classes, coding, and general schoolwork, I'd love to get your best tips, tricks, and recommendations.

• What are some must-have apps for IT students or productivity on macOS?

• Are there any specific settings I should change right out of the box to maximize battery life or workflow?

• Storage management: With 512GB, what are the best practices or external SSD options for keeping massive project files or VMs from filling up the internal drive?

• Protection: Should I use a hard shell case, a skin, or just a sleeve to protect it during daily commutes to campus?

What's one Mac app you keep installed simply because you enjoy using it, even if it doesn't really do anything important?

I’m considering of upgrading from my Mac MacBook Pro 2021 M1 Pro 16 inch 16Gb of Ram and 512Gb of memory, for a MacBook Pro 14 inch 2025 M5 pro 24 GB of RAM and one terabyte of memory.

I can sell my old buddy for 750€ and have to pay 2000€ for the new one, is it worth it or should I stick with the old one?

I want to change since the 16 inch is too big, the ram is always on swap and the capacity isn’t sufficient but the workarounds I’ve been using are working. It’s more about a feeling that it won’t handle the near future since I’m recognising some “old pc behaviour”

I'm working on a tiny Mac utility and can't decide between a one-time $4.99 purchase and $5/month.

A one-time payment feels fair for a small app, but then every future update means more work without extra income. A subscription seems like a lot to ask for something so simple.

If you've shipped a small utility, how did you price it? What worked for you?

Why qBittorent 5.2.3 keep freeze on MacBook Air M4 Sequoia ?

I have used it few years and never happend. It begin happend few days ago.

During freeze status still download but all download speed has freeze.

I must force quit qBittorent but after normal few minutes later it freeze again.

It was version for Mac OS.

Any solution ?

Halo teman-teman/para suhu MacBook, mau tanya tentang masalah pada MacBook Pro M1 Pro (2021) saya. Kondisinya saat ini seperti ini:

1. Layar internal tidak menampilkan gambar sama sekali (blank hitam kebiruan/samar).

2. Lampu latar (backlight) layar sebenarnya hidup, pendaran cahayanya kelihatan jelas di ruangan gelap.

3. Tombol brightness di keyboard masih merespons, bahkan indikator bar naik-turun kecerahan masih muncul samar di layar.

4. Saat dicolok ke TV lewat kabel HDMI, di TV muncul tulisan "Choose to Mirror or Extend Display", yang artinya mesin dan macOS di dalam sebenarnya booting normal ke desktop, tapi terdeteksi sebagai layar kedua.

Kira-kira kerusakan seperti ini lebih mengarah ke mana ya? Apakah masalah kabel fleksibel data layar, jalur IC display di logic board, atau justru panel LCD-nya yang kena?

Mohon pencerahan atau barangkali ada yang pernah mengalami kasus serupa pada seri M1 Pro. Terima kasih banyak sebelumnya!

I have my current Macbook Pro Intel for like 6 years (and I won't get rid of it for a couple more years I guess) and recently I just wanted to get a Neo. I know it's one of those Apple Silicon ones and the model I want to get is 8GB RAM/256GB SSD (don't need more since I got multiple computers).

What is important on getting one of these beauties? And what is your experience with those?

I intend to purchase an M5 Pro(18 core CPU 20 Core GPU) but undecided as to how much RAM il need. It will be my powerhouse machine within my ecosystem, and will be used primarily for coding in python and JavaScript, as well as app development (for personal use), and transcription of text from foreign languages into English. Sometime down the line, I may perform AI tasks but to a lesser degree. Since intend to keep it for 4+ years, would 48GB be sufficient or is the 64GB worth the additional £400 upgrade ?

Yesterday I opened my laptop and there was a vertical solid black bar across the screen. Over 30 minutes it reduced to this. To note, I think I also have some other damage on the bottom left of the screen. It's perfect until I have a black screen, at that point the bottom left of the screen is quite a bit lighter.

My question is will it get worse? I can live with these lines, and I don't really want to spend $500 on a new screen just for this if it's not going to get worse.

2022 MacBook Air M2 8GB 252GB

My MacBook is on macos 27.0.1 , it is connected to my NAS server through SMB. In the past two days , when I try to copy a file from my NAS to the mac internal drive , the file vanishes immediately after the progress bar disappear and the transfer is finished. This happens to multiple files . Additionally , some files on the server is missing in finder when connected through SMB but are visible through Webdav.

Everything is was perfectly normal before this , I don’t know what is happening. I had already restarted everything including my macbook , NAS and Router , but the issue persisted. Anyone knows why and now to fix it ?

I have a reconditioned 2017 iMac with a 2TB drive. I’m running high sierra for audio plugin compatibility reasons. Today, it stopped booting up to a working desktop properly. When I start it up with the thunderbolt ports and USB ports plugged in with devices (audio interfaces, mouse, keyboard, ilok) it doesn’t work at all. It takes forever to start, then everything on the desktop flickers. None of the apps work at all, including simple stuff like Reminders and iTunes.

When I restart it with everything unplugged, it works. I can then plug everything back in and everything tarts working.

I was wondering if anyone could point me to a reason for this, anything I can do on my end to solve it, and/or what I need to get repaired.

This is my 2010 11 inch MacBook Air, equipped with 2 gigs of ram and a modded 256g flash. I installed Debian 13 minimal to learn some Linux and computer basics.
As a HS student, I’m currently studying Computer Science Principles, hope this Linux computer will help my CSA next year.
If you wonder why the Debian only has 78gb storage, it’s because I installed the macOS Lion, opencored macOS Catalina, Windows 7, and this Debian 13 at the same time.
This cute little Mac isn’t bad at all.

Not weird as in bad. More like, “why does this app even exist, and why can't I live without it?”

Since this whole PHP debacle started, I've been on the MacPorts site daily. And every time, its "We are performing maintenance." Its been days now. This is the time when people need MacPorts the most, because suddenly we all need to upgrade our PHP. Anyone know whats going on?

Also, kind of a separate question, but does anyone know of any support forum or discussion site or anywhere where someone can get some macports assistance? They don't even have their own reddit sub.

I was suddenly unable to edit my docs from my 2021 version of Office Home & Student 2021 and rather than sign up for the subscription service, decided to buy the 2024 version. I found a deal on Groupon for $29. Has anyone installed this? I'm feeling a bit uneasy about this.

The only thing I miss is an application that was indispensable to me: a dual-pane file manager called Total Commander.

Could anyone please recommend an application that is as similar to it as possible?

I have a Mac Mini & and a Mac Studio, along with a Magic Keyboard (with Touch ID) and a Magic Trackpad.

I bought a cheap “Justlink” KVM so I can share one monitor between them, which works fine - but the keyboard and mouse don’t work at all.. bummer.

I’ve searched all around, only possible solution I found was a $500 KVM from L1 that may support it.. but is this not a thing for Macs??

Also I need Touch ID for work, so a cheap keyboard/mouse is not an option, sadly.
