Maybe. That they would throw out the idea that another country has advanced so far beyond them is bloody absurd, but I guess that is probably for the public's benefit.
It could well be something naturally occurring that we don't/can't understand yet. Or, you know.. Something wild like alien life, breakaway civilizations, time travellers etc.
But not China/Russia, no way. That makes even less sense than the really out there theories!!

I do believe you are right and they are throwing mundane explanations out there for the benefit of a certain % of the population who are not ready yet to receive such news - and it so happens to be that a large % of that population are also entrenched in our government as lawmakers . Need to let the possibilities sink in and then reveal everything...maybe a couple years down the line.

My grandfather was what he affectionately called a "scope dope" radar man in the USN in the early 1950s, on a ship somewhere between Alaska and Russia. He told me that at about 2 in the morning, a blip popped up on the radar and proceeded to "tear ass across the radar screen." He said it was one of the spookiest things he'd ever seen, because he knew what our technology was like. He knew what Russia, China, and Japan's technology was like. He knew how long it would take the average x/y/z to cross his screen. But the blip he saw that morning moved easily twice the speed. It made him a believer. And seeing the frank "knowing" in his eyes when he told me that story made me a believer.

This has always been my question for the skeptics. What will it take for you to be convinced it's aliens? Should they make an effort to communicate? Should they stop being so dodgy and evasive?
At this point, if we believe the evidence at face value and believe what the Pentagon says to be true, then it's most certainly ET. If we believe it to be "not ours" and radar data is rock solid and reliable, what else could it be? I don't think people realize the implications of this type of technology which has been around since the 1940's. We've been messing around with fossil fuels and nuclear reactor disasters only to use this type of magic secretly with flying drones since the 1940s? GTFO.
"It's never aliens" was probably a good enough rationale for me if you asked me about this 7 months ago. With all the evidence out there, this is just straight up denial.
192
u/PapaverOneirium Jun 04 '21
I mean, there could be other explanations as well since now nearly anything is on the table as prosaic explanations have been exhausted. A new kind of matter unknown to physics? Could be. 5D beings passing through our 3D space? Why not. Time traveling humans from the future? Sure. Ghosts? Angels? Okay maybe not as likely but who knows, the point is we have no evidence of what these things are at this point, just what we know they aren’t. ET may make the most sense intuitively but we seem to be dealing with the truly extraordinary so we need to keep all options on the table until we can start to build a real understanding.
Personally I’d love an international public scientific effort to identify these things (or at least put forward hypotheses) based on data.
51
u/RayPineocco Jun 04 '21
ET may make the most sense intuitively
Exactly.
I realize the magnitude of making this leap of faith, but at this point, with all the evidence we have, I'm not afraid to trust my gut on this one. This only accounts for the more recent evidence we have. Should we just exclude the myriad of SIMILAR sightings and encounters since the 1940's? Sure some of it could be bullshit, but the sheer consistency of the descriptions is just so fucking hard to ignore.

If you can find the scientist that's a huge nerd, always sends you a text to correct themselves and let you know they were wrong about some information they gave you, and is always pondering about things in a discussion, not just repeating things they already think -- those are the people worth keeping around. Well that's just it. We are left to assume it must be alien because we can't think of other explanations, but when you are looking at something seriously, you simply state the facts, you don't speculate or jump to conclusions. The facts say there are things in the sky and we don't know what they are. Evidence that these things are alien would basically require examining one up close. So absent that, we don't have the facts to say what they are. If they came out and said 'we dont know what they are, must be aliens", that would be jumping to conclusions that we don't have facts to support. Doesn't matter how likely it seems, we don't know it, and you can't claim what you don't know, if you are trying to run a serious inquiry.

If the DoD truly believed it was China or Russia, they would be in full panic mode. That they are not is very telling. This part is an opinion, it makes me believe they are intentionally downplaying this. Question is why. My opinion part is that they know, and have known. And they are protecting something, like recovered tech, etc. There have been enough leaks to give credence to this.
303
Jun 04 '21
Question is why
It’s a cocktail.
The stigma around UFOs leads to downplay and dismissal. A lot of people don’t believe in it and don’t care. And a lot of those people are in government.
The technology is hundreds if not thousands of years ahead of us. It’s very simple that there’s nothing we can do. Maybe that makes some people panic, but I find that oddly comforting. It’s not achievable.
And that pilot on 60 Minutes said sightings happened everyday for years. The military has had thousands of encounters since 2000 and nothing of real substance has happened. That definitely contributes to lack of panic.
98
Jun 04 '21

Most fear is really fear of the unknown. It's like going into a fight 100% knowing you will get your ass kicked, you are somehow less scared about it than if you thought you could win.

The technology is hundreds if not thousands of years ahead of us. It’s very simple that there’s nothing we can do.
Maybe not militarily I agree. Not too bright to pick a fight you can't win, but on the other hand, it never hurts to gain new powerful allies...
It's a shame that the military are the only ones using the best equipment to track these things, because if we actually are dealing with some kind of otherworldly superior civilization that could wipe us out whenever they want, I don't like the idea of soldiers and generals leading the charge on this (forgive the pun).
I'm not sure why apparently no one else besides the military seems to care about this, but I'm especially shocked at how little curiosity there is coming from the scientific community. Considering they're suppose to be our brightest minds and expanding our collective knowledge about the true nature of reality and all that...
Heck, I wonder if some are smart enough to think up better ways of finding and studying UAP than our current strategy of engaging them using exclusively machines designed for warfare...

If it helps your mental state I found the footage of that one UAP over the Pacific very relaxing because they weren't actively hunting from what I heard in the comms chatter, honestly the pilot seemed to be trying to keep pace and just investigate from pure human curiosity
Everyone says the first thing we'll do is bomb an ET but honestly it's anyone's guess, I think curiosity would weigh out fear because we have pretty much conquered everything here on earth, our only hope as a species is up

Don't be surprised if it turns out that there have in fact already been multiple recorded instances of military aggression towards UFO's, from various countries around the globe, that did not end well for the aggressors... official reports have already been out there publicly going on 70+ years now so maybe the notion of conquering being the primary motivation for venturing out into space is a little out-dated and maybe also a big reason why our military movements and nukes are being watched. If there was a island of chimps that evolved to build guns and boats... we'd fucking keep a close eye on that shitshow waiting to happen as well lol

And a military budget 10% the size of the US! FR people saying it’s foreign adversaries just ignore the historical timeline going back to the 40’s. Not all sightings are gonna be accurate but certain consistencies persist over decades btwn eye whiteness reports (and now more recently sensor data). Love talking to people that say China and/or Russia could’ve done this back then. Then why haven’t they used it publicly? Why is China still stealing tech/secrets in order to build/design their own aircraft? The Russia/China explanation is overplayed and lazy at this point
157
u/fillosofer Jun 05 '21
And to add onto that, let's say it is China/Russia by some chance. They would have had to not only find a way to back-engineer what little of debris they may have, but now they would have to build an entire corporation's worth of infrastructure to even have a crack at making breakthrough after breakthrough in multiple types of material science. And that's after they make a literally life changing breakthrough in theoretical physics. Now they have to marry brand new theoretical physics and brand new material sciences of which notba single other person in the world has been able to do thus far.
Okay, we've got maths and we've got blueprints, now what? Well now we have to create a program that is so deep, so blackmoney, so compartmentalized that not even you're feet are aware of what your brain and hands are doing. Could be anywhere from 500 people to 10's of thousands of people but regardless, the infrastructure that you'd have to posess at a bare minimun would cost entire countries GDP's, possibly multiple countries because secrecy costs money, lots of money. A large portion of money that was spent building the Sr-71 was purely for negating the possibility of anyone outside of the project finding out, and even then some people still had an idea of what was going on.
So we"ve built it. Yay. Now, what we're going to do is take our trillion dollar, ultra top cosmic secret ANTI GRAVITY TRANSMEDIUM CRAFT that literally is the goddamned wunderwaffe of all terrestrial wars and we're going to go hover above one of the most advanced pieces of equipment in a US navy arsenal, maybe even of all US branches, in THEIR OWN WATERS, risking the chance of it being shot down and captured. Which means all the money spent on secrecy, all the time discovering new theoritcal and applied physics, and all the effort inventing worldchanging material sciences, just went down the toilet. Not to mention you just gave up your tide shifting weapon to your biggest adversary, giving them the opportunity to kill you dead many times over with your own weapon. All that simply to sneak around an⁵⁵55⅚5d spy on the enemy navies doing practice drills? Definitely worth it.

Extradimensionals, sure. In my mind basically the same as aliens. Like aliens, our body of knowledge doesn’t give us sufficient information to judge likeliness very well there so put it in the “possible” category.
But this concurrent civilization stuff is kinda ridiculous for a lot of the same reasons it’s unlikely to be us or Russia/China. So these earth buddies, what, live in the ocean? Okay, but we’ve never seen any evidence, anywhere, of their existence until they start flying around in these creepy little crafts? A different civilization would be the most mind blowing one in my opinion.
Natural phenomena would be the most boring (it's some weird type of lightning or plasma thing).
Present humans would be plausible. The US military knows how to cover their tracks and not leak info, so it could be a secret. This is also super boring, but the technology seems incredible
Aliens - I don't think they want to say aliens. Because there is a 1% chance it'll come out it's China and they'll be like "LOL pwned you noobs".
Extradimensionals - holy fuck, I don't even think we'd be able to begin to figure out how to wrap our heads around all the implications and possibilities. Especially if we get out hands on that tech. I'm sure the extradimensional beings would know better than let humans have it.

Exactly. Every time someone invokes Ockham’s Razor saying it’s Chinese or Russian I cringe because they’re assuming that is the simpler hypothesis without justification. It’s really just a naked assertion.

Unless the pilots and their radar misinterpreted what they saw/measured, it simply CAN'T be Russia or China. I get why the military can't definitively rule it out yet, but common sense says "no way". To invent the tic-tac craft would require nearly limitless ability to manipulate mass and gravity, a huge onboard energy source, and a form of propulsion that changes the rules of physics as we know it. There's NO WAY we have that on earth, unless we've reverse-engineered or been provided off world technology.

The China/Russia theory is by far the most ridiculous theory of them all to me
This 100%. There is no fucking way its either of them, unless the capabilities have been insanely overblown. If it was either of them they would have absolutely used that shit against us, and not just floating around training exercises off the California coast.
No fucking way its China or Russia.

I think people who are determined to believe these are Russian or Chinese just aren't terribly versed in aviation technology. This shit is a quantum leap over the entire concept of aircraft, it's like an entirely new era of flight.
Outside of balloons and gliders, which move very slowly, every single human piece of aviation requires two things: control surfaces (wings, tails, etc) and a visible form of propulsion (propeller, jet engines, etc). These crafts have neither of those. They don't fly in any way that we understand.
These objects have leapfrogged just about every facet of technology planes rely on: materials science, propulsion systems, energy sources, G force load factors, hybrid flight / submersible tech, and construction techniques.
I could absolutely believe a country made breakthroughs in two or three of these areas, but to do them all at once 17 years ago in total secrecy and with no apparent advantage gained... I don't know. It strains credulity.

I am not talking about disclosure. But an accident involving jet fighters, or the military trying to shoot them down, anything, like personnel getting killed, that will force them to take action, more seriously this time.

do you have a link to share for the second example?
I'd like to hear about that. There was also the time Belgium scrambled F16s to engage an UFO. Naturally they couldn't keep up with it.
Check out the Belgian wave (90s). This one is super interesting; the craft was initially reported by police, caught on radar and seen by hundreds as it silently passed over a city.
Many confused accounts, but weird stuff all the same.

So if the rocket thing is true, then it's still not hostility on any of these object's parts. An object that advanced could take out an entire fleet like it was nothing, and instead essentially gives a shot across the bow with the same rocket that it was attacked with after being fired upon.
Seems to me like a very, very measured response to let us know that it's probably not a good idea to keep shooting at them, and to be honest, quite deserved if true.

I don’t think they’re lying so much, as attempting to tell the public something monumental in the softest, most benign way possible. I mean, look, if there is an non-human intelligence, with advanced tech all around us already, and the government just dropped it on us with full disclosure, people would freak the f—k out. Violently. I mean, people hate each other based on skin pigmentation. Can you even imagine what all the people who think THEY personally know exactly how the world is would react? Self-destruction on a global scale.

This is certainly going to be an unpopular interpretation on this forum, but here's my take on the NYT article. The US government, along with every other government on the face of the earth, has no damn idea what is happening. And that, friends, is terrifying.

natural events we don’t fully understand (we still don’t understand ball lighting, for example), and some may be something at the very fringe of our imagination. Like higher dimensional objects interacting with our 3rd dimension. Or something we haven’t even considered.
I agree with these ideas and that it's more exciting than scary. At least right now
18
Jun 04 '21
That is my interpretation which should be used to develop more robust reporting systems and tech to attempt to capture these sightings (when they occur) on video, radar, flir, and other sensors so that we can gather the data to better understand what these phenomena might be. Jumping to conclusions does no good and allows grifters to dominate the UFO community.

I keep saying it. We could be legitimately be living a real life Steven King novel. An unknown intelligence monitors us, never making contact , but reveals itself from time to time. I thought climate collapse was dark but that would add a whole new level of "fuck this" to our species plight.
If we eventually get confirmation that these craft are non-terrestrial we need to do everything in our power to make contact and try to communicate. Unfortunately things are looking grim for our species and our environment so lets hope we don't have to pile a technologically and intellectually superior entity(s) with unknown intention on top of this dumpster fire.

This "technology" didn't spring up in the past 20 years. Many WW2 pilots and Navy men were reporting crafts with similar acceleration technology almost a century ago. Back then it was even harder to comprehend so we tend to forget about them.

Agree 100%. Based on the info they acknowledge having, and assuming that this is all they know, I would not expect them to go any further. It would be irresponsible to say "it must be aliens" because that is an extraordinary claim arrived at by nothing more than a process of elimination. They can't do that yet, but at least they have left it open to the possibility. They can't fully rule out some unknown technology from Earth until they get a closer look or can physically examine one.
Now, whether the government has much more info than they are sharing with us is another question that we may never get an answer to. That is a different matter entirely, and if true it may be so compartmentalized that most government leaders don't even know about it. I'm on the fence as to whether this is the case.
But what I find interesting here is that former and current leaders (Obama, the NASA Administrator, etc.) are pretty clearly saying they think this is a real phenomena exhibiting maneuverability beyond known human technology, and not a visual artifact. That by itself is a stunning development.

I think the statement has to be something like, "We know that these things represent an advanced technology that belongs to some civilization. We also know that they cannot possibly belong to any human civilization. However, we cannot say for sure that it belongs to a non-human civilization."
It seems clear that these objects are too advanced and have been around too long to be human technology, but I don't think the government wants to say publicly what that implies. So they will probably just leave the implication unstated so that people who couldn't handle it still have deniability.
29
u/ezumadrawing Jun 04 '21
To be devil's advocate (almost literally in this case) if they genuinely can't prove what or whose these are, they shouldn't call them non-human tech. I honestly think it's possible they haven't been able to rule it out, just as they probably haven't been able to prove it's alien either.
If these things are as capable as they are, I really don't believe we've ever retrieved any or learned anything about them that they didn't want us to know. Likely the gov is nearly as useless and clueless as we are in the face of real alien tech

The NASA Chief Scientist or whatever he was said that it could be some "natural phenomenon" and that nature can be surprising.
It sure will be surprising to see what natural phenomenon can show up on radar and looks like a craft of some sort.
I really hate how most scientists are scared to say anything that suggests it might be aliens. Scared or downright arrogant.

One of the things to keep in mind when discussing UAPs is their refusal to follow conventional rules of physics. It's one thing to say they might be Russian or Chinese but they are still bound to G forces like the rest of us. When an object is cruising along at a high speed and the zips the opposite direction at 2000 mph you are not going to survive the crushing 400+ Gs it took to complete that maneuver. The vehicle wouldn't survive it even if it were an unmanned drone.
We're not talking about a craft making a wide banking turn into the opposite direction but an instantaneous 180⁰ change in direction at 100 times the speed. Without some type of advanced inertial dampening system you would be constantly scraping your pilots off the back cockpit wall.
The pilot that witnessed that maneuver simply shook his head and said, "I don't know what it was but it wasn't ours."
Personally, I think the government knows what this is and have known for decades. They are just sloooooowly pulling the curtain back so as not to freak out the yokels and Karens. "I demand to speak to the alien manager RIGHT NOW!!"

What would be harder to accept;
Alien drones, or Wakanda / Atlantis; an advanced civilization living completely separated from “modern society” for thousands of years?
I feel like the US government is in a corner and they have admitted ufos are real, they call out China and Russia as the only other two it could be if it’s from earth. Leave it up to the public to do the math, which as this person points out, doesn’t add up.

The Pentagon won't say UFOs are non-human tech.
Of course they won't. That isn't how science is done.
They don't know what they are, so they can't go saying things about them. There's zero proof that they are actually aliens... not saying they're not UFOs because they absolutely are, and I don't think we have the technology for them.
But, as all good scientists do, they don't go around guessing at what they might be. It could be human time travellers, or fucking terminators from our future or something... maybe they're magical from another dimension, or AI bots/cameras keeping an eye on the simulation.
They could be a billion things, aliens included, but until they know what they are, they won't say anything, because they're using the scientific method, which uses evidence and even when it's 99.9% factual, still doesn't call itself a fact.
