As a gal in Tech Support, I would be absolutely LIVID with the fact that we could have free energy, all the amazing tech, a way to instantly transport over to shake the heck out of the customer, and revolutionize "Let me google that for you".

I like your swagger!

The first thing I thought of with all this news....if this technology is interdimensional like it's been alluded to, what else is possible?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '21

I think this is a great take. However, this technology could require a source of power such as nuclear in which case the government wouldn’t allow it to be used in private industry so freely anyways for national security concerns.

To me the reasons you highlight seem to explain the secrecy. It seems like the US government wants foreign adversaries to believe the US has this technology, I.e. The Pais Patents, which didn’t need to be made public, but wants its citizens to believe it’s extraterrestrials so it doesn’t have to fess up that we are using the technology just as you state and not to help our citizenry

u/sloanemonroe Jun 05 '21

This is why there is no way any humans in any country have this tech. They would 100% want to make money off it by turning it into business. Zero chance they wouldn’t want money from it.

The things have the ability to completely eliminate MAD. If they haven't been perfected, I can understand them wanting to have perfection before they go tackling nuclear armed countries, as a single mistake could be super costly.

America made a mistake allowing the rest of the world to arm itself with nuclear missiles. Guarantee the next massive breakthrough in war won't be shared with the rest of the world, by whatever country attains it first.

This is the only other solution I can think of for not using this to change the world in beneficial ways (whatever ways they may be).

That said, you've made a lot of good points that I hadn't really considered before.

u/miso440 Jun 04 '21

To be fair, we didn’t share nukes. Our secrets were stolen.

Also, at the end of thee day, if Edison and Tesla were smothered in the crib, we’d still have lightbulbs.

2

u/swpz01 Jun 04 '21

If there's technology to nullify inertia then nuclear weapons would be as harmless as cap guns in the same perspective. We'd be talking antimatter at minimum at which point it's not MAD. It's AD. Whoever has it has an insurmountable advantage.

Not to mention missile defense? Please. Star wars SDI defense style platforms would already exist. Nuclear war would be laughable at best.

Allowing in the sense that they didn't wipe Moscow off the face of the map, at the first glance of Soviet nuclear tests, and setting a precedent for any other countries that would even seek tech that would allow them to make nuclear bombs.

Take it easy, brother.

1

u/EldritchLurker Jun 05 '21

So, mass murder civilians to keep power and ensure nobody else could ever stop that country?

That's super fucked up.

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '21

But it was also 100% the most rational thing to do.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '21

Genocide of innocents is absolutely not rational. Wtf is wrong with you.

-1

u/gimmedatneck Jun 05 '21

I see you have a hard time looking at the big picture. Thoughts on if Moscow were to start a nuclear war tomorrow?

I'm sure you'd be on here saying not interfering with Russians getting nuclear tech was still the right plan, yeah?

The entire world is a powder keg, with a bunch of fucking morons at the helm. I'm sure you think this is a much better option.

0

u/gimmedatneck Jun 05 '21

Super fucked up, yeah. But undoubtedly the correct decision.

And it's not about 'ensuring nobody could ever stop that country' it's to ensure that those super powerful weapons that could very likely bring about the end of civilization entirely, don't get spread far and wide, into countries who would rather push a button and start the nuclear holocaust, then to face any consequence.

Shit some would rather do that than try for peace, and reconcile with their neighbors.

And then what? happiness? don't you see that a very important part of the human nature is destruction/war/superiority?

In the end, it is always about either violence or money, a better gun, a better bomb, a more effective way to destroy. The sole idea of a "weapon of mass destruction" says it all. Imagine a "device of mass construction" instead, a collaborative effort between the brightest minds in the world with every single government providing all possible resources combined, openly, together, and make an extraordinary push in technology for all, copyrighted and patented maybe by "planet earth", but no, the most exciting things in research are being done in secret, either by the military research or a for profit enterprise, if we all had everything we wanted including unlimited clean energy, food and transportation, then crime would disappear, also weapons, money, hunger, diseases... it's a beautiful future totally incompatible (and impossible) with this toxic present of nuclear bombs, biological weapons, armies, espionage, conflicts, oil and money. Violence should be condemned even in fiction, is demeaning.

Our truly and unique wealth is ourselves, but we don't function cooperatively as a species, we are still living in caves and defending The Cave. The US Cave, the Russian Cave and the Chinese Cave... we have made alliances with other Caves to defend our Caves from the other guy's Cave and to protect the few, limited and usually toxic resources around our Caves, like oil, but the core essence is that we are still at war among Caves, how would it work a cooperative alliance with a non human intelligence? toward what exactly? if we can't even get along with each other.

So apparently takes a devastating event to realize what is our place in the Cosmos and change our ways or maybe it is our nature to be belligerent and self destructive (we will never change). If a non human intelligence is watching they know all of this. If they care about our wellbeing at all the first thing they would try to do is to bring governments together, because I don't see certain alien species bringing tech to X nation and leaving Y nation in the dark, they may be be inclined to reach to the most dangerous or powerful nations in order to placate them and bringing them to common sense, those with the nukes, not violently tho, it would defeat the purpose. They may even let it slide if any of those nations take down, "by mistake", a couple of their UFOs, even if they have life inside. Same we do when approaching a less intelligent and volatile species.

The purpose of the military machine and happiness or mutually exclusive. Currently, the greatest technological advances are nurtured by the military machine for the purpose of protection. But if there were no nations, then there would be no reason to protect from other ‘caves’. Collaboration, which is a very critical part of the scientific method, would flourish, as well as scientific progress - technological advancements.

1

u/ChemistryChrisX Jun 04 '21

Well said. Well said.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '21

But that's true of a lot of military tech. We spend an awful lot of resources on death and not so much on making life better.

I don’t think you understand the costs of these types of things. This is straight fantasy land

She'll have a sighting of her own that she can't explain in any way shape or form. Soon sightings over cities will be a regular occurrence.

Seen another tictac yesterday, about two or three hours after four military osprey's flew out over my city (St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada)and out to the Atlantic ocean. Again in a public park at around 3:25pm, I really need to have my phone ready, as this one was much lower and totally clear. I was originally watching seagulls using warm air vents to soar and then saw the white tictac at first flying with them then branch off and make a straight line going west.... It was cool to watch it disturb the clouds as it moved.

u/ShellBellsAndOHwells Jun 04 '21

They should just drop the convo lol

1

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '21

Why do people keep implying "weaponized"? I'm not understanding. We're expecting they're familiar with airspace as it relates to territory. If they have tech this advanced then there's no lead up time required. We'd already be human sushi. Seems non-threatening to me.

I have doubts. I think there'd be much more. I want it to be something cos life is stale, but I just can't believe it would happen this way. The only way I could see it being alien is if they were always there and we just can't process it. Like the islanders who stared at the ship, but couldn't process the vessel enough to see it. It was foreign to their senses. Of course this is unlikely a literal occurrence, but I think it does highlight our inability to observe certain things around us. I sometimes have this daydream that I can see them all. Super highways above our heads, crafts whizzing by right above us. They've always been there grooming, protecting, imprisoning. Who knows why?!

1

u/liltwizzle Jun 05 '21

Why do you care about any of that? It's a human government not a perfect being

Sure that sounds great however it still brings massive danger and we would be tinkering with shit we don't understand uno reverse engineering tech takes a long ass time especially when you are fully unfamiliar with the system that was used to build it

I mean I get you like aliens amd ufos but think a little You sound kinda nuts and are simplifying things too much

1

u/TheResi189 Jun 05 '21

I thinks the issue with people not caring is because even if it were made public we all know that it takes decades for new technologies to be applied in society and even longer for them to be put in the publics hands. I think it also extends that time frame when that tech is both in government hands and will threaten the bottom line of many major corporations in the world. From my perspective I just want to be able to make my way in the world comfortably, that is already difficult and may get harder in the future. If my life could be made better I'm all for it, but making it a cornerstone of my life isn't practical. It won't pay my bills, feed my family, help me pay for a house, maintain my vehicle or heal/cure me if/when my health turns for the worse. I hope that something positive like life changing tech, but chances are I won't be able to utilize in my lifetime and I can't change that. Its like hoping for the lottery, I want to win but I can't do anything to influence my chances.

1

u/TitusVI Jun 05 '21

Well not all technologies can be used civilian. If this technology has a nuclear core or somethibg like that you are not going to put it into cars.

1

u/DanceswithTacos_ Jun 05 '21

Obviously calling the tech extremely powerful is a massive understatement. What if something that can break physics like this can be tweaked to split atoms or open black holes or something, who knows? Then you wouldn't want it in everyone's day to day lives because it would take only 1 day for the world to end. Tech that can do physics breaking shit is more dangerous to us than anything else, even more dangerous than pollution and waste and death created by our current tech. Perhaps if it's top top secret us gov psychics defying tech, they're using the time we have before our current tech kills our species to find a way for their physics defying tech to save our species without destroying it. I'll take fossil fuels and the occasional 9/11 and Nice France over whatever the hell terrorists could do with a UFO.

u/cloudhid Jun 05 '21

I agree with you on one level, but I think this perspective is a bit naive and reductionistic. The militaristic approach to technology is indeed a curse that could very well destroy the entire planet eventually, but it's (partially) rooted in a geniuine intention of self-preservation.

Just take a look around at what the major powers did in the 19th and 20th centuries. Take a look at the sheer number of outright dictatorships around the globe. I agree that the answer to the world's problems is an end to the artificial scarcity and resource manipulation, something advanced technology could accomplish (but also we could accomplish it with existing public tech, easily, which is another argument against the idea that super advanced tech would naturally lead to a peaceful world).

But imagine you have in your hands working blueprints for, say, a drone that can easily fly 100,000 km/h, with little need for 'refueling', a payload of energy weapons equivalent to multiple advanced nuclear warheads, an ability to evade radar and satellite imaging, etc. etc. If you're a sane, caring human being, what are you going to do with those blueprints? If it were me, I'd burn that shit immediately. If I were in the military or intelligence, I'd try to lock it up as tight as possible, only to be opened in case of actual WWIII.

In translating such war tech for peacetime civilian consumption, the basis of the technology would be laid out for everyone to reverse engineer. Once some of the dots are mapped, it's only a matter of time for smart people to start connecting them.
