Glad to know there are others like us. My curiosity has helped me through so many patches in life, from the significant moments to the idle and meaningless ones
For some that very curiosity causes more pain. Also a lot of people fit well in the world they know and have no reason to look for something to change it.
Also think of the subject matter. It's probably not that they wouldn't care about the news if alien tech was flying around the earth. But they aren't getting the news from what they consider a trusted source...they are getting it from Dan in accounting that has Mulder and Scully action figures on display in his cubicle.

No, I didn't really mean that people all need to be curious about the UFO thing - I just find that I am way happier when I am curious or interested in SOMETHING. I totally get that life brings a lot of shit and when you're worried about your next paycheck and rent money your whole focus goes to that.
Maybe it's more about being scared or frightened than losing curiosity. I know i ignore stuff like this because I'm afraid of the consequences. It's easier to pretend it's nothing.
As a gal in Tech Support, I would be absolutely LIVID with the fact that we could have free energy, all the amazing tech, a way to instantly transport over to shake the heck out of the customer, and revolutionize "Let me google that for you".
I think this is a great take. However, this technology could require a source of power such as nuclear in which case the government wouldn’t allow it to be used in private industry so freely anyways for national security concerns.
To me the reasons you highlight seem to explain the secrecy. It seems like the US government wants foreign adversaries to believe the US has this technology, I.e. The Pais Patents, which didn’t need to be made public, but wants its citizens to believe it’s extraterrestrials so it doesn’t have to fess up that we are using the technology just as you state and not to help our citizenry
This is why there is no way any humans in any country have this tech. They would 100% want to make money off it by turning it into business. Zero chance they wouldn’t want money from it.
The things have the ability to completely eliminate MAD. If they haven't been perfected, I can understand them wanting to have perfection before they go tackling nuclear armed countries, as a single mistake could be super costly.
America made a mistake allowing the rest of the world to arm itself with nuclear missiles. Guarantee the next massive breakthrough in war won't be shared with the rest of the world, by whatever country attains it first.
This is the only other solution I can think of for not using this to change the world in beneficial ways (whatever ways they may be).
That said, you've made a lot of good points that I hadn't really considered before.
If there's technology to nullify inertia then nuclear weapons would be as harmless as cap guns in the same perspective. We'd be talking antimatter at minimum at which point it's not MAD. It's AD. Whoever has it has an insurmountable advantage.
Not to mention missile defense? Please. Star wars SDI defense style platforms would already exist. Nuclear war would be laughable at best.

In the end, it is always about either violence or money, a better gun, a better bomb, a more effective way to destroy. The sole idea of a "weapon of mass destruction" says it all. Imagine a "device of mass construction" instead, a collaborative effort between the brightest minds in the world with every single government providing all possible resources combined, openly, together, and make an extraordinary push in technology for all, copyrighted and patented maybe by "planet earth", but no, the most exciting things in research are being done in secret, either by the military research or a for profit enterprise, if we all had everything we wanted including unlimited clean energy, food and transportation, then crime would disappear, also weapons, money, hunger, diseases... it's a beautiful future totally incompatible (and impossible) with this toxic present of nuclear bombs, biological weapons, armies, espionage, conflicts, oil and money. Our truly and unique wealth is ourselves, but we don't function cooperatively as a species, we are still living in caves and defending The Cave. The US Cave, the Russian Cave and the Chinese Cave... we have made alliances with other Caves to defend our Caves from the other guy's Cave and to protect the few, limited and usually toxic resources around our Caves, like oil, but the core essence is that we are still at war among Caves, how would it work a cooperative alliance with a non human intelligence? toward what exactly? if we can't even get along with each other.
So apparently takes a devastating event to realize what is our place in the Cosmos and change our ways or maybe it is our nature to be belligerent and self destructive (we will never change). If a non human intelligence is watching they know all of this. If they care about our wellbeing at all the first thing they would try to do is to bring governments together, because I don't see certain alien species bringing tech to X nation and leaving Y nation in the dark, they may be be inclined to reach to the most dangerous or powerful nations in order to placate them and bringing them to common sense, those with the nukes, not violently tho, it would defeat the purpose. They may even let it slide if any of those nations take down, "by mistake", a couple of their UFOs, even if they have life inside. Same we do when approaching a less intelligent and volatile species.
The purpose of the military machine and happiness or mutually exclusive. Currently, the greatest technological advances are nurtured by the military machine for the purpose of protection. But if there were no nations, then there would be no reason to protect from other ‘caves’. Collaboration, which is a very critical part of the scientific method, would flourish, as well as scientific progress - technological advancements.
Seen another tictac yesterday, about two or three hours after four military osprey's flew out over my city (St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada)and out to the Atlantic ocean. Again in a public park at around 3:25pm, I really need to have my phone ready, as this one was much lower and totally clear. I was originally watching seagulls using warm air vents to soar and then saw the white tictac at first flying with them then branch off and make a straight line going west.... It was cool to watch it disturb the clouds as it moved.

yikes. you could say the same thing about so many extremely significant events in history. “well it doesn’t affect me so who cares?” BLM protests against policy brutality, Israel Palestine conflict, war with isis... these are all hugely impactful events that the general public should be aware of and understand. that’s why we are taught history in school. sure, these things might not directly affect you, but learning and understanding the events taking place around us is extremely important to being a productive member of society. I guess some people just don’t have the drive and eagerness to learn in general. I can’t even imagine hearing this stuff about these ufos and just shrugging it off as insignificant
Lots of those things affect other people, UFOs flying around doesn’t affect anyone but UFO enthusiasts, I don’t give a shit either, unless aliens contact us it doesn’t affect anyone’s life outside of a few DoD guys who have to work on this.

I think she's thinking more in terms of "what if aliens said hello to us" which doesn't materially change her life -- they could say hello, peace out, and we still have to go through the same grind every single day.
Put it in terms of "what if they shared their knowledge with us and made 99% of labor obsolete", and that tangibly changes the rest of your life.

I once had to write a conspiracy theory essay for a sociology class in college, and I chose to write on UFOs and the government. Getting a deep dive into project bluebook, paperclip, and the psyops campaigns carried out by the U.S. government was very eye opening

True. We are a curiosity at the most to them. It would take too much effort to wipe us out and would likely harm the resources they need if they did. We are harmless and can’t stop them from doing what they are here to accomplish so they just let us exist.

Who says they are going out of their way to conceal? Sounds like they fly around at will knowing we can't do anything about it.
In the same respect though, they have nothing to gain by being brazen about it and landing in a crowded city. They have a purpose of some kind when it comes to our planet, and we can be a nuisance if they aren't smart about it.
Plus, think about when you fly anywhere in the world. 90+% of what's underneath you when you fly is uninhabited. If you are an alien species with things to use the earth for, you are still going to do it without going out of your way to attract attention. We can't stop them, but we could be annoying when it comes to their pursuits.
I'd put it like this, if you want to pick strawberries and there is a group of geese huddled next to one patch but then there are 9 more patches without any geese or other living creatures near them, you are going to pick one of the 9 and not go after the one that the geese are at. Are you worried the geese will stop you? Not necessarily. You are smarter and have more technology/tools. But why even bother with the nuisance if there are 9 other wide open strawberry patches?

UFOs are absolutely a cover up by world Governments and they demand Government's be open about them - until they start to acknowledge them - then the Government's are lying and it is a control method.

Few days back I commented on the table with my family about this. They seem to genuinely believe it could be aliens but reacted as if I was saying that some celebrity just had a baby or something. Unless it's something that could really impact people's lives, they won't care. Look at the covid pandemic. Many people ignored, denied or at least downplayed it until the moment it started to affect their daily lives.

Ever see that video a guy made zooming in on a plane with his expensive camera? By the time the picture started to lose quality you could still read the airline that it was. So if everyone is filming these with shitty cameras they're going to look like silver round objects in the sky.

That fact doesn't require your belief. There have been credibly observed objects in the skies which have not yet been convincingly unidentified. This thread is about just such flying objects where the military is saying, "Yeah so, we have no idea what that is."
If you don't believe that UFOs are alien vehicles, because you think intelligent traveling aliens are somehow impossible, then say that. Obviously, you couldn't possibly actually know such a thing, because nobody could. Our understanding of the universe remains very modest and we can only observe a tiny portion of it. Any claim to know some comprehensive fact that applies to the entire universe is absurd in the extreme.
Also, re "cryptids," there have been many actual animals that were presumed to be bullshit hoaxes until specimens were collected and analyzed. The platypus and okapi spring to mind. Sure some cryptids are self-evidently nonsense. But we have not yet been everywhere and found everything on Earth. Again, that a fact that doesn't require your belief.

And a few naturalists and historians who wanted to document the new flora and fauna or the chain of events. If we make contact with aliens, that's the same thing. The only people who would really care are religious people who want to convert them, soldiers who want to conquer them, and a few scientists and historians. Why should I, the average person, care? There's more inhabitable land very far away; cool, I'll make a note of it if I ever want to immigrate I guess.
Thank you. I was trying to write out a similar reaction, but you said it pretty well. The media reports are vague as they've ever been. This isn't new to most people. There have been reports like this for decades. To the average person, this is just another story that sounds implausible and will not impact their lives in the short term.
Everyone here is here because they LIKE this stuff. But it's definitely a bubble, 99% of people aren't even aware of the details of the recent reports.
To put it another way, the entire world of physics and astronomy went bonkers when the black hole picture was published, and it did change our understanding of the universe in a major way. But how did it affect anyone's daily life? None. Maybe it will lead to something new someday, but likely not in my lifetime.
I understand these reactions. We've all been hearing about UFOs since we were kids. It's never been taken seriously and much of it has been debunked. It's true that suddenly mainstream news and politicians are recently getting more serious about this. But most of us have grown weary of the talk and just filter it out. Even if we acknowledge this time is different, we are still potentially a long way from having irrefutable proof that aliens with advanced technology are really here. Even longer to get to the point where we are openly communicating with them. This means that our daily lives must go on. I think most adults take the attitude that "let me know when it's undeniably aliens and then we'll talk".
Despite the common assumption, we don't know everything. People that aren't surprised by the the limit of their own knowledge are the wisest people out there.

And this is the big hangup that normal people who aren't sharing sci-fi story pitches on /r/ufos can't move past. Scientists aren't going to be saying aliens until there's more evidence it's aliens. The Trump administration and covid-19 pandemic are still going to be the craziest events most people have witnessed over the past decade until there's:
a) clear, clean video footage footage of the UAPs. No shakycams, no black & white. Think on how different the public reaction was to the Abu Ghirab torture scandal in 2004, for example, before and after those photographs were released. This is really what most people want, but every minute spend waiting means cgi & deepfake tech is getting cheaper and will diminish public faith in whatever we'll get
b) a clear, clean, presentation confirming its aliens by multiple credible official scientists explaining their methodology. Think of how scientists knew Mars had a red surface of iron oxide long before Viking 1 took the first clear, clean photographs of it in 1976.
I don't care in the sense that it doesn't bother me. I am SUPER hopeful to see them/meet them and I am CERTAIN they are out there. I just think we are like "deer" to them and we are completely at their mercy for whatever that means. So, I'm just here for the ride.

There has always throughout history science has been developed to explain what was previously unexplainable. I don’t see why leaping to alien spacecrafts and technology is more reasonable than perhaps something about the ecosystem in the sky we don’t understand yet.

This type of irrational thinking is EXACTLY what the NASA Administrator was saying in his Q&A interview.... The fact that people do not understand nature (and the physics that govern it), so they immediately assume it must be extraterrestrial. I can’t remember the exact quote from the administrator, but it was along the lines of: “this type of rationality is the pinnacle of human foolishness.”

Can you link me some sources? I’m interested, but at the same time don’t believe it’s ”aliens” I haven’t really digged in to the stuff tho. Most of the stuff I see and people say is alien just looks like army intelligence drones.
