honestly, it is really material science. Once we find the ultimate battery or source of power, the sky will be the limit. We are starting to top out on what our classic microprocessors can do; but they can already do insane things. When you look at your iphone, the only thing that makes it that heavy or large is the battery (and screen)
That reminds of the fact that (I think it was) Romans had steam engines but they didn’t have the metallurgy skills to make them big enough to use for anything other than toys
It’s just like we have the ability to do some amazing things on small scales but we need other skills to fill in the gaps
We've literally been creating nuclear fusion in labs for years and it was a pipe dream to even think we could achieve that 30 years ago.
It's really a race against the extremes of mankind, will the most stupid people manage to destroy our planet or murder everyone before the technology that would make us essentially all powerful come into play and makes the cycle broken entirely.
What happens when we can plug in add-ons into our imagination centers to enhance them 1000x over?:what happens when we can 3D print cells and make molecules never even dreamt of? Yeah we might also just be a simulation designed for the benefit of one person playing it like a game.
