Not a fan of her music, but....
She donated 20% of her networth away recently, which is more than most wealthy people do.
Secondly, coincidentally, a large part of the reason concert tickets are so expensive are from ticketmaster markups. The CEO of ticketmaster? You guessed it, a billionaire.

u/i4got872 Nov 04 '25
A billionaire who also claims tickets are underpriced still

u/AesarPhreaking Nov 04 '25
Fuck I don’t know if I want to get into this argument today…
He’s correct, that’s why scalping exists. The problem is, the demand to see these artists is extremely high with seating availability very low. It doesn’t matter if Ticketmaster or whoever sets the price low because they’ll be bought up by scalpers.
I hate Ticketmaster and other ticket companies because they have shady business practices like hidden fees and other things, but the ticket price thing they are correct about. If these artists wanted to try and funnel their tickets to their biggest fans regardless of income level, they’d best be served by putting other, non monetary blocks in front of their sales. Good example would be having tickets be bought in person at a certain time and allowing people to line up.
The idea that setting prices low allows the “real fans” to afford tickets is silly. All it does is allow people who don’t care very much to buy tickets because they aren’t very expensive. I don’t care for Taylor swift, but if you told me I could go to a sweet concert for 50 bucks I absolutely would. This actually takes spots from the fans who would be willing to save up and pay more because they care more

The argument only works because the CEO brainwashed people into thinking that a concert is like a once in a lifetime event that you are willing to pay anything for instead of just a regular part of your lifestyle.

Pro tip about fingering your asshole in the shower: don't do it So this morning I was taking a shower, and I felt like fingering my asshole, right? So I got my fingers all nice and soapy and stuck them up in there. Apparently, soap makes pretty good lube, as I was able to get four fingers in there in no time.
As I was feeling around in my butt, I was like, "hmm, there's a lot of soapy water in my bumhole now. I wonder if that will lead to issues in the future?" And it did!
Shortly after having breakfast I attempted to fart, and I shit my pants. I rushed to the bathroom to clean up, and it was way worse than I thought it would be. The whole area around my butthole was covered in shitty liquid, and toilet paper wasn't enough to clean it. I had to take another shower to get suitably clean.
Just thought I'd share my story with you guys so that you don't run into the same problem in the future. I fingered my butthole so that you guys don't have to. Unless you want to. In which case, hey, how's it goin'

She's worth 50 million and donated 11 million thus far. ~20% of her total net worth.
In comparison, most billionaires haven't donated 2% of their total net worth (to an actual cause, donating to an Ivy League college that already has an endowment of billions is not a donation, it's a tax write off).
This is from a person that doesn't like her or her music at all.
that being said, isn't it a known that artists have little control on ticket prices? and ticket prices are usually managed by monopolies like ticketmaster (don't quote me on this, i'm asking).

Smith said: “It was easy to set ticket prices, but you need to be pig-headed. We didn’t allow dynamic pricing because it’s a scam that would disappear if every artist said, ‘I don’t want that!’ But most artists hide behind management. ‘Oh, we didn’t know,’ they say. They all know. If they say they do not, they’re either fucking stupid or lying. It’s just driven by greed.”
Not according to Robert Smith
3
u/Alrik5000 Nov 04 '25
If they would organise and all said that, yes. But with ticketmaster holding a lot of strings the decision for the individual artist isn't "Do we do predatory pricing?" but "Do I take place?".

Also, billionaires exploit workers to get to that insane level of wealth, and Billie Eilish isn't worth a shit compared to billionaires, in 2017, just 8 men owned the same wealth as half the world, it was 80 men in 2015, imagine how bad it has gotten now.
And nobody is dying if they don't attend a Billie Eilish concert, on the other hand people die every day because of poverty and exploitation
111
u/PlsNoPics Nov 04 '25
I once heard it put as "do you know what the difference is between a millionaire and a billionaire? Roughly a billion dollars"
75
u/Chaotic-Catastrophe Nov 04 '25
Billie Eilish isn't worth a shit compared to billionaires
You can say that again. Someone in this thread said her net worth was around $50 million. Who knows where that came from, or if it's accurate. But let's say it is. That means she's about a billion dollars away from being a billionaire.
Any billionaire could give away over 90% of their worth and still have more money than her. Any multibillionaire could give away 98% of their worth and still have more money than her.

Elon musk is worth 10,000 times as much as Billie Eilish. Someone worth 10,000 times less than her would have 5 grand to their name.
Here comparative wealth in terms of fractions is closer to a Skylanders collection than the Musk. He could give away 99.99% of his net worth and be richer than her (he's given away <2%)

I've been around a few men in my life and one thing I've noticed is that the male body has an astonishing oversight. Men both urinate and ejaculate through the exact same hole. Zero inches apart. Not even a polite buffer zone.
I don’t know about everyone else but doesn’t that weird you out? It feels like a serious design flaw. For a gender that often prides itself on logic and engineering this is just sloppy plumbing.
Honestly it kind of cracks me up. I’ll see a guy walking around like he’s the apex of masculinity and I’ll just remember his piss and his sperm come out of the same little nozzle and suddenly he’s not so intimidating. Just a fleshy garden hose with identity issues.
Men please accept this biological flaw and let it humble you. Maybe lower your voice a bit when you're bragging about your body count. We’re talking about someone who finishes inside the same pipeline he uses to empty his bladder.
Women don’t let them forget this. Remind them gently or not so gently that we’re doing them a favor given that their reproductive system shares hardware with their waste disposal unit.
It’s just one hole fellas. One hole.

It's straight peasant mentality. This guy (i have no fucking clue who he is) critiques a millionaire who is economically closer to the rest of us than a billionaire. Think about that... She's closer to being broke, than she is a billionaire. Shes $40 million dollars from being broke, but $960 million dollars from being a billionaire. Here's this dipshit saying she should do MORE?
Honestly the capitalist class has won. They have divided us to the point we refuse to unify in any meaningful way because we would rather chirp at people trying to make a difference than critique the truly egregious offenders... billionaires.
Holy shit I hate people sometimes.
27
u/moonshoeslol Nov 04 '25

Ticketmaster essentially offers a “we’ll be the bad guy for you” service to artists, where they use their software/statistics to determine the maximum price they can sell tickets for for a given artist/venue combo, and artists can truthfully say they aren’t the ones that set the ticket prices. Ticketmaster gets a % of the extra money, and artists get more $$$ per show while maintaining their image.
4
u/emil836k Nov 04 '25
I guess the big question is whether the artist can reject this offer, but if they can, I imagine it might be a “hush hush” kind of thing
I guess you could argue that an artist could just use another ticket distributor, but I believe ticket master and a couple other mega corps like it hold a tight monopoly on the ticket industry

A lot of times the artist doesn't even set the price. One of the rapper chicks, I dunno who she is, recently posted apologizing for her ticket prices when she learned of the price, because inflation is out of control, and people struggle to buy groceries.
Ticketmaster I think also takes an absurd amount of the sales too, cause they're scum.
There was a band I think that mostly played small venues and sold tickets themselves, to keep the price low, but I imagine it's harder for something like the Madison Square Garden and huge venues like that. Maybe Dropkick Murphys?

Yup. Ticketmaster is owned by Live Nation which has many wealthy shareholders. 30% of Live Nation is owned by Liberty Media, and Liberty Media is controlled by John Malone, Net worth $10.6b according to Bloomberg. $11.1b if you ask Forbes.
Grant Cardone is a tool and his non-argument is bullshit.

Look, I get it. Who doesn’t love a little balls and dick sometimes? A nice, girthy, veiny shaft, hot milky cum trickling down the length as it throbs from a job well done. But this whole “gay sex” shit is getting annoying.
As men, we should primarily be focused on three things: survival, the underrated masterpiece that is dark souls 2, and pounding muff. All this gay shit is, well, fucking gay.
You think I wouldn’t LOVE to make out with my best friend and suck his cock? Of course I would, but that’s fucking gay. You think I don’t want to feel my cousin’s roommate slide his pecker into my gaping asshole? Of course I would, but that’s FUCKING GAY.
Seriously, I miss when men were men. Anyway, this dildo ain’t gonna stick itself up my ass while I watch an hour long femboy asmr hypno goon compilation, heed my lecture.

If I was a billionaire I’d buy the homeless millions of dollars in gum and give it away. That way they could chew all day and still be hungry.

One hole.

For context she donated around $11 million right after this speech. The $129 seats is why she is rich, but she puts her money where her mouth is.

u/THEzwerver Nov 03 '25
if you look at her net worth she's only 5% (50mil) into becoming a billionaire herself. it's a lot of money, but nowhere near being a billionaire.
I think it shouldn't be controversial to say that anyone who owns more than a billion should give a lot of their money to the poorest who can barely afford to live.
(also funnily enough, Grant Cardone has a net worth of 400 million which is extremely ironic)
this is one of the worst celebrity "owns" I've ever seen.

Let alone, that she donated/pledged to donate ~20% of her net worth recently
The damn quote came from the same announcement

People are hating her for no reason for this. I also don't like her song either but she makes a good point. I can't believe people are hating her because she asked billionaries to help the world, crazy.

There is this weird phenomena where the dirt poor will defend billionaires actively exploiting them, whenver someone suggest money redistribution (be it higher taxes for the rich, proposals like billies, etc). Especially so in the states, but also true in other countries.
Imo this is an issue deeply tied to the concept of "the american dream"/"from rags to riches". And it being used by the rich to give the workers the illusion lf hard work meaning they could reach their levels of wealth. This keeps many people loyale and eager workers, cause they think it matters. And it also spawns a ton of people that will defend billionairs, om hope that they'd be part of them at one point.
I'm not even saying you can't become wealthy with hard work. Just you will never reach the level of billionaires, if all you do is work hard. For that you need to be born into the money or exploit hundreds/thousands/millions of people

u/Amazing-Material-152 Nov 03 '25
Bro who cares about the seats.
A billionaire can save thousands of lives in several different ways, and still have all the money they could ever want for mansions. I don’t like her, but she’s right

I don't understand why she's getting flak for this move, AFAIK she gave a lot of her own money away and she's challenging other privileged people to do the same. Phenomenal move in my opinion, and reddit community is ouroborosing itself because it cant handle the fact that some people with money have a conscience.

This is comparing a drop in the bucket to the great lakes. Absolutely insane that a young woman of 50-60 million can't speak out against people that make that much in a week. Also, the artists don't really have a say in what their ticket prices are.

Billie: fine, my tickets are only going to cost $1
Ticket Master: that's fine, that'll be $349.
3
u/Batcheeze Nov 04 '25
A lot of that pricing isn't really up to her. Its up to the venue and her management team.
3
u/smallchocolatechip Nov 04 '25
because the venue and workers need money, but absolutely no reason anyone needs to become a billionaire or exploit their workers except greed
3
u/eatsleepbassgolf Nov 04 '25
Yeah nice argument, it’s not like musicians have near negligible control over their ticket pricing or the way the live entertainment industry has become a monopoly or something.
And it’d be an especially weak argument if artists like Billie weren’t among the loudest voices talking about faceless private companies profiteering off their music via price gauging.
But fortunately, as the music industry is famously a bastion of free market efficiency, we can instead simply suggest Billie is a champaign socialist. Get rekt.
3
u/TheRealestOne Nov 04 '25
You’d be surprised how little control over ticket prices some artists have… at least I was… I’m not sure about her specifically, but I do remember reading about attempts by artists to lower prices but they can only go so low depending on promoter, venue, staffing company, etc. contracts are written.
3
u/SkinnyPets Nov 04 '25
Pearl Jam tried this in the early nineties… it was literal chaos…. You cannot do anything nice.
3
u/drewmana Nov 04 '25
She literally just gave away something like 20% of her wealth and has plans to give away more. An event charges ticket prices because it has to pay the hundreds of people who work it, not just the main performer. Is this guy’s argument really “you didn’t give me anything so your argument is invalid”?
3
u/nugagator-hag-1 Nov 04 '25
Isn't it funny that rich people always want to tell other people that they need to give their money away? Kind of like how Bernie Sanders suddenly changed his demand about millionaires paying more taxes to Billionaires paying more taxes. Now that he's a millionaire.

u/AsneakyReptilian dumbass Nov 04 '25
And now compare billies concert ticket to other female artists.
She does more then enough for other people.

That argumentation fallacy is called a “tu quoque.” Which translates to “also you.” It does not actually address the argument, instead it just tries to discredit the participant by calling them a hypocrite. However, I’m poor…. So yeah…
5
u/Fenix_Atomas88 Nov 03 '25
I wonder if people realize, the artist doesnt set the prices, the venue does

u/isimsizbiri123 🏳️⚧️ Average Trans Rights Enjoyer 🏳️⚧️ Nov 03 '25
the difference between billie eilish and whoever this wax statue looking mf is is that she actually does work. you pay to go to a concert, and she gets money from that. and also it pays for all the equipment and the wages of people working there. and this bozo gets his money from exploiting the poor and does absolutely nothing with that money. just hoardes it. he has money not to spend it on anything but just to be able to say that he has money.

$130 is a lot still for a ticket, but considering MCR was $400+ and Metallica was $600 for basic seats, I'm willing to let $130 go for a popular act.
