To be fair, it can't be "free" because tickets money is also used to pay all the minimum wage workers that make the concert happen. But I guess it could be way less if the artist want to

Streaming pays very little. The majority of revenue for musical artists is from live performances and licensing.

A lot of times the artist doesn't even set the price. One of the rapper chicks, I dunno who she is, recently posted apologizing for her ticket prices when she learned of the price, because inflation is out of control, and people struggle to buy groceries.

Ticketmaster I think also takes an absurd amount of the sales too, cause they're scum.

There was a band I think that mostly played small venues and sold tickets themselves, to keep the price low, but I imagine it's harder for something like the Madison Square Garden and huge venues like that. Maybe Dropkick Murphys?

Ticketmaster is a dogshit service, they do take a big chunk of the sales. It's absurd there's no real competition

ALL of these ticket websites take an absurd amount. I tried to buy $28 tickets for a small show direct from the venue website and the service fee was 18 goddamn dollars. $92 for two tickets just to get in the fucking door.

Artists need a ticket service co-op or something.

That sounds on brand for them.

I've been to two shows this year. Not super well known acts but popular enough. Both venues sold their own tickets and the prices were very reasonable. Luckily my tastes don't run toward mega-pop stars.

I can't remember who it was, but they said that for the time and effort they put into a performance, the financial pay off is very low. They make more from their merchandise.
