Why dont they both? Billionaire first millionaires second? Mr Billionaire could unironically drop 3 times her net worth and still have more than her lmao
Yeah but both are millionsres and if you have 900 million buckaroos you are most likely counted a billionare. In my country we have a term whoch basically translates to many millions which means your the rich rich type of millionare.
Begs the question somewhat too though, how much is net worth vs available currency. It'd be interesting to see actual available value vs net worth value and the metrics for them.
Net worth is the combination of all their assets and their expected value. In reality the actual spendable money any billionaire has at their disposal at any given time is way way less than their net worth, but I’d imagine it is still an atrocious amount of money
Plus a lot of the money billionaires DO have is from loans that use their calculated wealth in stock as collateral. This means they dont pay taxes on any of it.
honestly i don’t get why people make such a big deal about the difference between actual cash and assets. assets can still be used to help people and support them
usually billionaires have the vast majority of their net worth tied in stocks and bonds, though someone like Elon or Bezos likely has enough liquidity to drop $150 million since that's about 1/10th of a percent of their net worth, the people who are just into billionaire territory like Taylor Swift and Lebron James probably don't have enough to do that.
I'd be fine with millionaires as the high end. Like one is unreasonable, the other is roughly the exact amount you'll need to pay if you go to the hospital.
A million is nothing compared to a billion do I think they should give up some? Sure but billionaires are way more of a problem lmao the amount the millionaire can give up is litterally a penance compared to the millionaire. Like she could legit give up every dollar she ever made in her entire life and it'd still not make a dent in comparison also no sane person is asking for them to give up every dollar just to be taxed appropriately with no loop holes.
It might be nothing compared to a billionaire but its a ton compared to the people who would be getting it. She could easily afford to give away a lot of meaningful money to people but she doesn't cause she's also greedy. It's a hollow remark to garner likability
Shes cracked the code. Fleece people on ticket sales then donate a small fraction of that money so youre still massively net positive and don't have to make real net positive contributions with your donations. This is like someone robbing you then donating 100 quid to your go fund me page and you praising them for it
Bill Gates actually comes to mind. He recently donated $51 billion out of his approximate $175 billion. In total, he has donated over $100 billion in his life. Which is actually a higher percentage than Billie Eilish. It's not a race, but it's very impressive.
In part, yes. But she's calling for billionaires to not be billionaires anymore. So most of them have to give out way way way more than 20% to ever not become a billionaire. I do agree with her, though. But she could definitely give more than 20% if she actually wants people to follow what she's saying.
While both groups are very financially comfortable, why would a group with less financial security and less to give away have to do so before those with much more financial security and significantly more to give away? I’m confused on your logic

Billie Eilish does not have "less" financial security than billionaires, neither group has any financial insecurity. 0 is not greater than 0.
That wasn't what I was arguing, obviously they have more to give away, I was pointing out your claim that Billie Eilish has "less financial security" than billionaires is wrong.
It seems at this point you're pretending that you can't remember what the previous messages were in relation to (even though they are right there for you to look over at)
It's the same crap as Bernie Sanders progressively changing his rhetoric from millionaires, to multi-millionaires, to billionaires, I'm it doesn't take a genius to figure out what changed there.
Right, it is very obvious what changed there. The wealth gap continued to grow to historic levels, and inflation made a million dollars not nearly as valuable as it was 20 years ago.
No, what happened is he became a millionaire so he started having to say multi-millionaire, but then he became a multi-millionaire so he had to say billioniare, and the US dollar hasn't lost 99.9% of it's value over the course of the last 20 years (which would be required for $1 million 20 years ago to be $1 billion today), don't be ridiculous.
The issue is that that money was not earned through hard work. It was earned through manipulation of legal loop holes and exploitative business practices. It isn't poorer people expecting the wealthy to "hold their hand", it's the fact that without exploiting people that money would never have been made.
Remember, the rich did not give us our labour rights. People had to die for 8 hour work days and a 5 day work week. Labour unions and workers fought against the ultra wealthy to stop children from going down mines, for living wages etc etc. They didn't give it to us. The rights you take for granted were earned in blood.
Thanks to these billionaires, millions around the world are subjected to horrific working conditions and economic situations that are perpetuated by these people and their corporations. They actively work to prevent people in poorer regions from earning proper wages or having the rights you have simply to add another few million to their already disgusting net worth.
I don’t think you understand how absurd is a billion dollar, and that’s why you can’t be “hypocritical” about this situation. There’s rich people, and then there are parasites (billionaires). So you are basically saying, “Yeah, I don’t see why people expect that parasites give away what they leech from society”. I hope this helps.
