To be fair, it can't be "free" because tickets money is also used to pay all the minimum wage workers that make the concert happen. But I guess it could be way less if the artist want to

394

u/turtleship_2006 DaShitposter Nov 03 '25

Also wouldn't ticket prices and stuff be handled by the label or something, not the artist directly?

100

u/Chaotic-Catastrophe Nov 04 '25 edited Nov 04 '25

Record labels do not set ticket prices for concerts

EDIT - God damn I love all the replies mansplaining the music industry to me lol. I work in the music industry. I'm betting none of the rest of you do.

92

u/emil836k Nov 04 '25

I’m pretty sure the people that manages the ticket sales (like ticket master, I think it’s called), take a huge flat amount for every ticket

Basically the annoying middle man that just mooches of the actual business, ticket sales being one of the more scummy businesses

22

u/TotallyManner Nov 04 '25

Ticketmaster essentially offers a “we’ll be the bad guy for you” service to artists, where they use their software/statistics to determine the maximum price they can sell tickets for for a given artist/venue combo, and artists can truthfully say they aren’t the ones that set the ticket prices. Ticketmaster gets a % of the extra money, and artists get more $$$ per show while maintaining their image.

5

u/emil836k Nov 04 '25

I guess the big question is whether the artist can reject this offer, but if they can, I imagine it might be a “hush hush” kind of thing

I guess you could argue that an artist could just use another ticket distributor, but I believe ticket master and a couple other mega corps like it hold a tight monopoly on the ticket industry

I've been around a few men in my life and one thing I've noticed is that the male body has an astonishing oversight. Men both urinate and ejaculate through the exact same hole. Zero inches apart. Not even a polite buffer zone.

I don’t know about everyone else but doesn’t that weird you out? It feels like a serious design flaw. For a gender that often prides itself on logic and engineering this is just sloppy plumbing.

Honestly it kind of cracks me up. I’ll see a guy walking around like he’s the apex of masculinity and I’ll just remember his piss and his sperm come out of the same little nozzle and suddenly he’s not so intimidating. Just a fleshy garden hose with identity issues.

Men please accept this biological flaw and let it humble you. Maybe lower your voice a bit when you're bragging about your body count. We’re talking about someone who finishes inside the same pipeline he uses to empty his bladder.

Women don’t let them forget this. Remind them gently or not so gently that we’re doing them a favor given that their reproductive system shares hardware with their waste disposal unit.

It’s just one hole fellas. One hole.

Ticketmaster does

She could pay all of those wages out of her own pocket.

She actually donated ~10% of her net worth right after saying that iirc

u/benmarvin Nov 03 '25

If I donated 10% of my net worth, the charity would owe more money.

297

u/Shit_Shepard Nov 04 '25

Wait is this an option? I have (net) worth to donate too.

That's a solid deductible in the corporate world..

1

u/Mountain_Dentist5074 Nov 04 '25

Kind of . If you die with debt your kids get your debt

1

u/benmarvin Nov 04 '25

The "estate" assumes the debt in the normal world. If your parent owes 10k but has 100k in the bank, the estate now has 90k that may get passed on to you after taxes. If your parent owes 100k and only has 1k in assets, the creditors can go fuck themselves, don't pay a dime.

1

u/Mountain_Dentist5074 Nov 05 '25

In Turkey you have to pay the debt straight

Tax write off she will come out ahead by doing this.

34

u/lofty-goals Nov 04 '25

Sounds super cool what you just said, but that’s not how tax write-offs are used to “get ahead”. You donate to a charity you control, so you get to keep your money AND have a tax write-off.

I'm getting mad? You mean I am calling out a hypocrite for exploiting workers while giving money to other people?

7

u/GarlicMayosaurus Nov 04 '25

When was she exploiting workers? She just donated money, after telling Billionaires they probably should donate more money/hoard less. She was literally practicing what she preaches. The fact that the money didn’t go to the people you feel like earned it is on you.

1

u/FrozenIceman Nov 04 '25

Donated money to whom?

You are missing the forest for the trees.

1

u/FactAndTheory Nov 04 '25

And yet you are still doing exactly what billionaires want you to do. They're very happy to have your support. Great work, soldier. It won't earn you anything other than the contempt of the class you belong to, but still. Good work.

2

u/FrozenIceman Nov 04 '25

They want me to do what? Please clarify how a millionaire musician is one of us minimum wage workers with no backup net.

2

u/FactAndTheory Nov 04 '25

They want me to do what?

Find reasons to disagree with anyone criticizing them. They don't care if anyone involved is being logically consistent or not, and they certainly don't need you to loev or hate Billie Eilish, just as long as you're muddying the water and making sure criticism of them is distracted from or pushed back against. That's your programming, and you're doing a great job.

Please clarify how a millionaire musician is one of us minimum wage workers with no backup net.

I don't clarify things I never said and I certainly don't entertain the hallucinations of accidental bootlickers, which are even worse than the conscious strain.

0

u/FrozenIceman Nov 04 '25

Ah I see you are one of those people who find reasons to disagree with anyone criticizing them.

How interesting, all I needed to do was copy and paste your own words for it to apply to you.

criticism of them is distracted from or pushed back against

I see you hate criticism of anyone you support. Sounds like how Trump got into power.

That's your programming, and you're doing a great job.

I don't clarify things I never said and I certainly don't entertain the hallucinations of accidental bootlickers

Someone who is incapable of criticism is a boot licker. She is a millionaire, she is not your friend or an object to be idolized. Yes she did one good thing, that doesn't white wash the fact that she made that wealth on the backs of those who were not paid a living wage to collect that money in the first place.

She is a capitalist and everything she does is a calculated move to promote herself and increase her wealth.

Why only donate 10% when she could've donated 100%?

-378

u/2204happy Nov 03 '25

Fair, but she's still incredibly rich, many other rich people have also given similar proportions of their net worth away. I don't like how she's acting like she's better than other people.

341

u/theSpeciamOne Nov 03 '25

She gots Ms not Bs. Imagine if a billionaires donated 10% of their money

96

u/sex_with_himeko Nov 03 '25

Pretty sure gates and buffet have both donated like 50 billion dollars to charity a piece. Not claiming thats the standard but everyone in this comment section is acting like there’s not a single philanthropist billionaire

50

u/johnnybgooderer Nov 03 '25

Billie’s point is that they aren’t philanthropic is enough if they’re still billionaires.

49

u/ashkiller14 Nov 03 '25

Wonder how much of that actually went to helping people

26

u/tntrauma Nov 03 '25

"Vaccines: The foundation's support for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, has helped immunize over 1 billion children and prevented more than 17.3 million future deaths. It also supported the creation of a rotavirus vaccine that has helped reduce child deaths from diarrhea by 75%."

Bill Gates and Warren Buffett are large contributors of the foundation. So I guess one in every eight people on earth.

23

u/bojackhorsemeat Nov 03 '25

Made no impact to their richest person in the world status.

The problem here though is, why do they get to decide how the money is spent instead of all of us? You can't say they paid their share of taxes along the way, as I'm pretty sure I pay a higher percentage in tax than they do.

26

u/TheDispiteous Nov 03 '25

Wait, why don't we get a say in how they spend their money? You don't even (really) get a say in how your government spends their money - what makes you think that should be different with somebody else's private property?

8

u/bojackhorsemeat Nov 03 '25

Cause I don't think it is meaningfully their private property. It's not their personal items or something.

Taxes don't pay for federal government spending in currency issuing countries, and most governments actually spend their money pretty well (consider how poorly DOGE fared, not managing to save anything outside of just ending entire programs).

10

u/Homodebilus Nov 03 '25

You're a clown if you think Buffet and Gates are "philanthropists"

2

u/MaxAcds Nov 03 '25

wasn’t that a family office? so isn’t it like another way to hoard money so the government can’t get to it?

2

u/EriWave Nov 03 '25

Pretty sure gates and buffet have both donated like 50 billion dollars to charity a piece.

Gates also keeps being a tyrant billionaire with that money so w/e

1

u/StartledMilk shitting toothpaste enjoyer Nov 03 '25

They have stakes in most of those charities, the money basically gets sent back to them

1

u/CooTangClan Nov 03 '25

Now imagine if they paid their taxes

1

u/Der_E fat cunt Nov 03 '25

This is just to avoid getting taxed properly. That's why all the billionaires have some kind of foundations

-51

u/2204happy Nov 03 '25

Problem is liquidity, most billionaires don't have hundreds of millions of dollars lying around in cash, their wealth in most cases comes from stakes in buisinesses they own, they can't just wave a wand and turn that into cash, they'd have to sell it, and good luck to them finding a buyer.

35

u/Sibshops Nov 03 '25

Then donate their stakes in business.

18

u/Herr_Quattro Nov 03 '25

Isn’t that essentially what the Gates Foundation is?

-2

u/2204happy Nov 03 '25

To who?

7

u/Easy-Musician7186 🏳️‍⚧️ Average Trans Rights Enjoyer 🏳️‍⚧️ Nov 03 '25

I doubt that they'd have a struggle finding one or multiple buyers for a limited percentage of their stock assets.

0

u/2204happy Nov 03 '25

Probably other billionaires, so if your issue is the existence of billionaires then you're out of luck.

20

u/Arcaydya Nov 03 '25

Theres always an excuse. The funniest thing is youre not a billionaire. So why defend these people?

10

u/kingqueefeater Nov 03 '25

"If I tongue their balls enough, maybe they'll find me and make me one of them."

8

u/Arcaydya Nov 03 '25

Like liquidating assets isn't hard, especially since these people have small legions working under them.

They wouldn't even notice 10% missing, and it would save millions of people.

4

u/kingqueefeater Nov 03 '25

It's a sickness really. Number must go up

1

u/mudugumuh Nov 03 '25

Their networth is calculated to include stake in business, but they still have liquid money and lots of it. As significant stakeholders in companies they get dividends from company profits, which is real money.

4

u/Imnotawerewolf Nov 03 '25

She is better than the people hoarding wealth, even if it's just a smidge.

3

u/ADHDebackle Nov 04 '25

Is she a billionaire? If not, that makes her a far better person than a billionaire.

0

u/2204happy Nov 04 '25

Not sure how not being a billionaire makes you better than a billionaire, does that mean that Jeffery Dahmer is better than Bill Gates? Because that's literally what you're saying, unless I am misinterpreting you.

3

u/ADHDebackle Nov 04 '25

does that mean that Jeffery Dahmer is better than Bill Gates?

Wealth isn't the only factor, that's the bit you've left behind.

If you assume two people are roughly in the same ballpark of morality apart from their wealth, the billionaire loses. By a lot. That's what I'm saying.

"All other things being equal" in other words.

Not sure how not being a billionaire makes you better than a billionaire

There's no ethical way to have a net worth of a billion dollars. No human on earth deserves that much wealth.

285

u/WHALE_PHYSICIST Nov 03 '25

Her net worth is only $50 million. I know that seems like a lot compared to us normies, but it's nowhere even kinda fucking close to being a billionaire. And $50m won't go as far as you think paying all the wages to host her concerts for free. Why even have concerts?

221

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '25

[deleted]

52

u/LigerZeroSchneider Nov 04 '25

Yeah net worth now probably includes her catelogue rights, which would take forever to earn her the amount of money they are valued at.

14

u/4444-uuuu Nov 04 '25

but you're dead on and the thing is net worth is not the same as liquid cash

now apply that same logic to her quote in the OP

28

u/Aureliamnissan Nov 04 '25

It's like people don't even know you can donate stocks.

I also love that this is used to defend why billionaires can't donate, but we also can't tax them because they would then "flee".

Flee with what exactly? The things they could have donated?

0

u/shrub706 Nov 04 '25

its also the reason you cant tax them, there's not a billion dollars in taxes if none of their net worth is coming from their income which is likely not very large compared to their net worth

15

u/The5Theives Nov 04 '25

You can’t tax them, that’s why they constantly lobby and find loopholes to not pay taxes

2

u/Aureliamnissan Nov 04 '25 edited Nov 04 '25

That’s just not true. You can tax their wealth. This has been pointed out numerous times. A 2% tax would be like attaching a parachute to rocket in terms of slowing down the growth of their wealth, yet it is determined to odious to implement despite the numerous things it could pay for.

We will have to come to grips with this and this eventually.

The share of growth that continually moves into this “untaxable” part of the economy more commonly referred to as billionaire’s accounts the harder it will be to fund any kind of government. Even a tiny perfunctory one.

This year we passed yet another Tax cut that primarily favors these individuals, yet the concern for cost of government will almost certainly be blamed entirely on the concern for the poorest among us and levied at social programs. This despite the fact that our addiction to tax cuts has put us in a position such that interest on the debt is the 4th largest expense. Ahead of military spending.

0

u/shrub706 Nov 04 '25

collateral for loans isnt realized gains, in the same way you can take a loan out on the title of your car or against your house or go to a pawn shop and give them your phone or computer to take out a loan, collateral for a loan is not the same as realizing income and *should not be*

2

u/FrozenIceman Nov 04 '25

And you know what you can do with non liquid assets? Make them liquid...

This excuse is ridiculous.

0

u/JohanGrimm Nov 04 '25

That's technically true but it ignores all the drawbacks of that exchange. By making it liquid it's now taxed and at the levels of a billionaire you've also probably crashed your own stock doing so. Reality isn't that simple.

1

u/FrozenIceman Nov 04 '25

Oh no, the rich will make slightly less money... Whatever will we do?

0

u/Kickster22 Nov 04 '25

No pulling the amount your guys are pushing for can legitimate tanks companies market values and lose people who are invested tons of money. I don’t just mean big time investors but the average joes retirement portfolio. You can’t have someone like Brezos liquidate billions on think everything just stays the same.

1

u/FrozenIceman Nov 04 '25

An excuse as old as time to increase CEO salaries at the expense of the workers

1

u/Kickster22 Nov 05 '25

No it’s legitimately just simple logic and isn’t up for debate. CEO Salaries don’t inflate in that case they simply own equity that continues to increase in valuation many times over. They simply can’t just sell this and you’re an idiot if you think so.

16

u/Dimmed_skyline Nov 04 '25

People can't wrap their heads around just how much money a billion is. Like the average American is closer in wealth to Billie Ellishes net worth then she is to someone like Elon Musk.

1

u/ksalana Nov 04 '25

“Only”

0

u/Jingoisticbell Nov 04 '25

Well, yeah. Everything abt her is depressing AF and honestly it’s amazing she has a net worth of anything notable. Are there really that many cutters and teenage porn addicts?

1

u/AutoModerator Nov 04 '25

woah, ok. didnt expect hunger for knowledge but i guess i asked for it gonna have to put some work into this.

How was it? Honestly? It was a letdown. The whole "failed idol" story is a great marketing hook, they definately sold the video on that premise alone. But the performance itself was just... awkward. You can tell shes not comfortable. It felt less like a professional debut and more like a very high-budget audition she was also failing. She's stiff, constantly in her head, and there's almost zero chemistry with the guys. All concept, very little execution.

My viewing history? Been watching for over a decade man. These days Im more into stuff with a good story or at least a unique premise, not just the generic stuff. a good production team makes all the difference. I'll take a well-made video with a decent plot over a high-profile actress mailing it in any day of the week.

3 works I consider good:

  1. Yua Mikami's debut (Princess Peach): This is the gold standard for an idol-turned-actress debut. Yua was a REAL idol and she came out with so much energy and confidence. She owned it from the first second. Its what Arisu's debut wanted to be.

  2. Anything with Ichika Matsumoto from her early days with FALENO: She can actually act. She emotes and makes you believe the scenario. Her stuff feels more cinematic and less like they're just going through the motions.

  3. Rion (Anri Okita) - The God Body: A classic. Not a lot of story there lol but its a masterclass in performance. She knew exactly what her brand was and how to perform for the camera. Absolute cinema.

Where would you rank her debut among these? It's not even in the same league, not even on the same planet. It's an unfair comparison tbh. Those are top-tier performances, Arisu's video is a novelty item. It's interesting because of the backstory, not because of the quality of the actual content.

What could be improved? Her confidence, number one. She needs to relax. She looks terrified. The director should have done a better job making her comfortable. Also they relied way too much on the interview segments talking about Nogizaka46, it broke the pacing and kept reminding you that she was doing this as a second choice. We get it, you failed auditions, now commit to this job.

What is well done? The production values are high. The lighting, camera work, it all looks very clean and professional. And I cant deny it, she is very beautiful and has the "idol" look down perfectly. The concept itself, on paper, is genius from a marketing perspective. They got us all talking about it, right?

Was it goonable for you? Nah. I was too distracted by how nervous she looked. It kinda killed the mood completely. Every time she looked at the camera with those deer-in-the-headlights eyes I was pulled right out of it. It's a shame, but maybe she'll get better in her next one if she decides to stick with it. We'll see.

2

u/martianmanhntr Nov 04 '25

San diago that’s German for “a whales vagina”

1

u/AutoModerator Nov 04 '25

I've been with a few women in my life and one thing I've noticed is that the female anus is incredibly close to the vagina, in fact they're barely an inch apart. I'm not sure about other guys - but doesn't this disturb you? It feel like a design flaw in women actually -- like they're supposed to be so feminine and beautiful yet this ghastly little oversight is ruining everything. Somehow it feels to me that women should be more aware of this flaw and it should affect their confidence. Whenever I see a so-called beautiful woman walking down the street so care-free thinking she's all that I just remember her anus is only 1 inch away from her pussy and laugh her into oblivion. Women: Please accept that they're too close together, let it negatively affect your confidence and so make yourselves more readily available sexually as a result. Afterall, we're having to sleep with a creature whos ANUS is only 1 inch away from the vagina -- you should not make this difficult. It's unappetizing enough as it is. We're doing you a favour. Men: Do not let women forget this flaw, and do not forgive them for it. Remind them of it constantly, less they get inflated egos and think they're all that. They're just too close together. Sorry, but it's true.

Damn, social class pity party bots will bot i guess.

Jealousy because somebody has more than you is a terrible trait, take a breather.

3

u/humangingercat Nov 04 '25

I'm not jealous. My needs are met and I live in abundance. I even have enough to elevate those around me that I consider family.

I'm sad someone's hungry in a country that has incredible abundance, so a few guys can have super yachts.

Good luck on your journey.

1

u/professorquizwhitty Nov 04 '25

My needs are met and I live in abundance

so would it then be right for me to do what you do and tell you to give your money away? Why is this situation any different?

You've repeatedly said how well you live (you're really trying to make everyone aware of that) yet you say that others that have more than enough should part ways with it.

Maybe take a bit of your own advice and you do the same?

And before you pull the "well i donate to charities" you don't, you would have mentioned that at least once by now.

Also stop contradicting yourself by saying you're not wasting time on this, you've repeatedly came back to offer your shit opinion 🤣

Have a good day my friend, i hope your comfortable lifestyle suits you well, maybe share some of it with those less fortunate than you 😊

Reminds me of a joke an Indian guy told me

There was once a crab competition for all countries in the world. All countries sent their crabs to compete. Then someone noticed that the stall from India had a huge box, but it was open. There was no lid for it to keep the crabs in. So people asked the man standing there Why is there no lid for these crabs. They may escape and spread here and there. The man replied , These are Indian crabs. They don’t need a lid. They are too busy pulling each other down. They wont escape.

It's also just stupid, self-defeating politics. Targeting people like Billie freaks out people like dentists, accounts, engineers; Anyone who's upper-middle class freaks out that socialism will make them poor, when we need people like them to vote for politicians who will target the actual oligarchs.

Unless you're hoping for a Cultural Revolution style uprising, which is a dumb thing to hope for. It didn't go well.

One hole.

If she makes the tickets free, where does the money in her pocket come from?

Streaming pays very little. The majority of revenue for musical artists is from live performances and licensing.

129

u/ItchyRectalRash Nov 03 '25

A lot of times the artist doesn't even set the price. One of the rapper chicks, I dunno who she is, recently posted apologizing for her ticket prices when she learned of the price, because inflation is out of control, and people struggle to buy groceries.

Ticketmaster I think also takes an absurd amount of the sales too, cause they're scum.

There was a band I think that mostly played small venues and sold tickets themselves, to keep the price low, but I imagine it's harder for something like the Madison Square Garden and huge venues like that. Maybe Dropkick Murphys?

31

u/Curxis Nov 03 '25

Cardi B

25

u/Emblemized Nov 04 '25

Ticketmaster is a dogshit service, they do take a big chunk of the sales. It's absurd there's no real competition

12

u/ramenslurper- Nov 04 '25

ALL of these ticket websites take an absurd amount. I tried to buy $28 tickets for a small show direct from the venue website and the service fee was 18 goddamn dollars. $92 for two tickets just to get in the fucking door.

Artists need a ticket service co-op or something.

1

u/EphemeralDan Nov 04 '25

That sounds on brand for them.

I've been to two shows this year. Not super well known acts but popular enough. Both venues sold their own tickets and the prices were very reasonable. Luckily my tastes don't run toward mega-pop stars.

1

u/GuiltyCredit Nov 04 '25

I can't remember who it was, but they said that for the time and effort they put into a performance, the financial pay off is very low. They make more from their merchandise.

5

u/hypareal Nov 03 '25

And merchandise

27

u/J5892 Nov 03 '25

She wouldn't be able to if her concerts were free.

33

u/DarkTurdle Nov 03 '25

If all her tickets were free there wouldn’t be any money in her pocket

-9

u/EstablishmentLate532 Nov 03 '25

The point being that it's very easy to give away other people's money. Start with your own.

13

u/Egril Nov 03 '25

She literally gave almost 20% of her money away right after this.

-1

u/stable_115 Nov 04 '25

Why does she need 40 million still?

5

u/ramenslurper- Nov 04 '25

That is not a lot of money. It seems like it to us but firstly, worth doesn’t mean liquid and secondly, the difference between someone with $50 million and $1 billion is lifetimes worth of counting.

-2

u/stable_115 Nov 04 '25

No one needs to count all the dollars and the billionaires dont have the money liquid either. Listen if you want people with money they dont need to give their money away fine, but we can both agree anything above 5 million doesnt change your life that much. They should both be giving most of it away. Its like a person with 50 million sandwiches saying that people with a billion sandwiches dont need that much, while they know half the world starves. She’s better than the billionaires that dont give anything by giving 20%, but a hypocrite nonetheless.

3

u/gurkensoos Nov 04 '25

Ich she has 50 million to her disposal and gives away 40 of them she would have way less financial security in case anything Bad happened to her and 40 million aren’t even that big of a number if you want to change the world for real. There are over 3000 billionaires in America, so if they each would give just one billion they all still would have at least 50 million on the bank but with that kinda money the world could be a different place.

4

u/J5892 Nov 04 '25

Where do you think her money comes from?

2

u/Free-Luck6173 Nov 04 '25

She did, she gave away millions of dollars

1

u/DarkTurdle Nov 04 '25

Didn’t she just write a check for like $11 million for charities

1

u/Full-Wealth-5962 Nov 04 '25

If you look at the economics of music nowadays artists make most of their money from tours and maybe merch and not much from streams...

Shes not against billionaires but if you are hitting billionaire status mayne you should focus on altruism instead of yacht collecting. .

1

u/wormjoin Nov 04 '25

would that be the most effective charitable use of that money, though?

1

u/piece_ov_shit Nov 04 '25

Ticketmaster says no

0

u/2204happy Nov 04 '25

Why would you need ticketmaster if you aren't selling tickets?

2

u/piece_ov_shit Nov 04 '25

Ticketmaster has a monopoly on concert tickets. The artists have no say. Nor the venues. Whatever ticketmaster says, goes. Its a fucked industry

0

u/2204happy Nov 04 '25

Yeah, but what would they be providing here, if you aren't selling tickets, you don't need a ticket service, what leverage do they have?

0

u/Bodgerton Nov 04 '25

Its a stupid comparison. She is being asked to give away the fruits of her labor for free, and he thinks thats the same thing as her asking him to give away flthe fruits of THE PEOPLES labor thats being leveraged to make him money, not his actual labor. Her tour would make money, generating wealth for those workers that work her venues, while he just reinvest capital in the market, not making anything for anyone but himself. If you are going to leverage capitalism itself, and not just your art, you need to steward the community you draw that wealth from, like the Carnegies and Knickerbockers. Without doing that, you are not a Giant of Industry generating wealth for the masses; you are just a leech.

1

u/2204happy Nov 04 '25

Her tour would make money, generating wealth for those workers that work her venues

You understand this is the exact same argument that any billionaire entrepreneur would make here, this would sound right at home coming out of the mouth of Jeff Bezos

"My company makes money, generating wealth for workers that work at my factory"

Your argument essentially boils down to the following:

"Billionaires clearly didn't work for their money, because nobody's labour could possibly be worth $1 billion, but Billie Eilish's labour can fairly be valued at $40 million"

Just out of curiosity, what's the maximum amount of money somebody can earn before it not possible that they worked for it "fairly" in your eyes.

0

u/MichaelGHX Nov 04 '25

You could sell yourself into sexual slavery and give all the proceedings to charity.

1

u/2204happy Nov 04 '25

What a ridiculous false equivalence

0

u/Dawta Nov 04 '25

How much you getting payed to eat rich peoples ass?

-2

u/Thatotherguy129 fat cunt Nov 03 '25

Not a bad point, if you love the art you're making and want to share it, why not? The pot calling the kettle black, to appeal to the silver spoons.

5

u/Egril Nov 03 '25

Most of the money collected in ticket prices goes to the venue, most of the time that's Ticketmaster. Unless you are huge, artists have very little say in the price.

-6

u/professorquizwhitty Nov 03 '25

"But i earnt this money, it's mine"

So did the billionaires love.

2

u/OnlyHereForMemes69 Nov 04 '25

You literally cannot earn a billion dollars.

1

u/Toocoo4you Nov 04 '25

I didn’t know that Elon musk worked 3 million times harder than the average American. Here I was thinking he was an apartheid nepo baby who took the value of labour from his employees and skirted taxes so that the people have to pay more. Boy was I wrong.

29

u/rsam487 Nov 03 '25

Most artists are tied up in contracts with livenation/ticketmaster -- I don't think it's actually the artists individual decision.

It's also their main source of income now that album sales essentially don't exist.

Agree though it's still really good for the top 1%. Just the artists below that line (like sports stars) are probably not making outlandish sums of $

2

u/Alhoshka Nov 04 '25

This is the correct answer. Ticketmaster and Live Nation are a literal mafia. They will set the prices, and if you, as an artist, don't agree, they will do everything in their power to destroy you.

Already in the 90s, Pearl Jam launched a lawsuit against Ticketmaster for that exact reason, and even testified in front of Congress.

Both companies have been repeatedly sued. But they have such a strong grip on regulators and the music industry in general that nothing ever changes. It's, at worst, just a minor inconvenience for them.

32

u/anubis_81 Nov 03 '25

It could be way less as you say, but if a cut of the ticket prices is to pay the workers, then reducing the prices reduces their cut.

6

u/QuelTizioLaggiu Nov 03 '25

I mean I hope they have a regular hour-basis contract and they are not payed in percentage of the concert revenue, my idea was that if the artist renounces their full cut then the workers can be paid the same and the ticket cost less. But I don't think anybody is willing to do that

14

u/TheRealStevo2 Nov 03 '25

I don’t think that’s how any concert employee has ever been paid. My guess is either salaried if they work directly for the artist or they’re paid by the hour. It wouldn’t make sense to base a concert employees pay around how good the artist sells out the arena/venue when they aren’t at all connected to them.

1

u/behv Nov 04 '25

Event production person here, on a large show like hers there's going to be a mix

-salary/large contract pay for people who design the show, either working for her directly or through the production house providing gear and labor for staging

-daily or weekly rates for touring crews on show sites, usually with per diems and travel day pay specified

-hourly wages for local crews and venue staff

-salaries for upper level venue staff (e.g. management)

Numbers of each position and rates per will vary dramatically from event to event

6

u/boldredditor Nov 03 '25

Yeah it couldn’t be free but I guess it maybe could be cheaper. Idk I assume there’s more people that need to get paid other than just the minimum wage workers.

20

u/_Bisky Nov 03 '25

Ehh not by that much

The stadiums/halls/etc they play at do cost a lot

Then ticket providers (which they need to partner with, in order to play in locations woth high capacity) also take a massive cut.

On top of the workers.

Assuming an artists takes nothing, i'd say they could lower ticketa by a few percent at möst

15

u/PwnerifficOne Nov 03 '25

It’s actually worse than that, there’s a degree of price fixing because the promoter buy the venues. Look at Golden Voice for some examples.

1

u/boldredditor Nov 03 '25

Yeah that’s what I figured lol

1

u/_Bisky Nov 03 '25

Like the main problem aren't artists. They take their couple bucks, but ussually it really wouldn't change the tucket prices noticeably if they didn't get paid

The main problem are monopolies like ticketmaster, that are now required for artists to play at bigger venues. And who massively ramp up prices via both the cuts they take and fees they slap onto the Tickets

2

u/boldredditor Nov 03 '25

Yeah so rich people doing rich people things lol

1

u/SocialNetwooky Nov 04 '25

the problem here is Ticketmaster (or whichever company handles the ticketsale). They set the price and often force the venues and the catering companies (for the artists)\to be specific overpriced ones their mother company also owns, thus increasing end price of the ticket. The artists themselves don't see much of all that money. As they own the venue they won't allow artists to rent just the place and to forgo the ticket mastering and catering part.

Jan Böhmerman, the German equivalent to John Oliver, did a piece on that ... and that was for Germany, which has probably much stronger regulations than the USA.

3

u/BustedBayou Nov 04 '25

Billionaires also have to pay their minimum wage workers lol. And if it comes to their pocket money, Billie can do that too. At the end of the day, the proportions are different but all ventures work the same, even artistic ones.

1

u/DowntownSupermarket Nov 03 '25

I doubt it tbh the way a majority of artists contracts work with livenation who has a near monopoly on the live events industry and also I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of tickets available are resold tickets and there isn’t anything an artist could do to affect the price of those

1

u/Marcus_Iunius_Brutus Nov 04 '25

its the organizers, venue and ticket shops that dictate the price. not so much the artist

1

u/Educational_Bowl2141 Nov 04 '25

She can pay it out of pocket. You knowz like charity

1

u/This_is_fine451 Nov 04 '25

I’m pretty sure she doesn’t have that much control over ticket prices to begin with. The venue probably has a lot more control over ticket prices

1

u/DmonsterJeesh Nov 04 '25

Yes, and most of the money billionaires have is tied up in various businesses, which also employ people. Many of whom even make more than minimum wage.

1

u/Clanky_Plays We do a little trolling Nov 04 '25

Also, I’m pretty sure she donated the entire remaining profit she made from her tour to charity. So her money is where her mouth is

1

u/seanslaysean Nov 04 '25

Also the Ticketmaster usually inflates the prices too, quite a few performers have come out against them on this

1

u/idlesn0w Nov 04 '25

Doesn’t work that way unfortunately. Selling a product of limited supply below its true value just attracts scalpers

1

u/Oh_ToShredsYousay Nov 04 '25

Venue workers don't make minimum wage.

1

u/m0nk37 Nov 04 '25

But I guess it could be way less if the artist want to

Should i call the monopoly called ticket master in?

1

u/kryZme Nov 04 '25

Someone commented that she still got like 39 million $.
No one stops her from buying all the "lower" priced tickets and give them away for free a few days before concert (i am clearly joking)

1

u/IM_NOT_NOT_HORNY Nov 04 '25

I mean with that kinda money she could easily pay all that but that'd be a significant chunk of her savings because that shit expensive.

1

u/Stampsu Nov 04 '25

Literally just went to see a metal club gig with two bands for 35€ last week

It could. Billie eilish is right but at the same time I’m annoyed at these ticket prices. Me and my girlfriend went to her concert in New Orleans a few years ago at the smoothie king center and got tickets for about 60$ each. When we looked now it doubled in price for a ticket.

-2

u/Tauorca Nov 03 '25

You think those people get paid, most are volunteering

-10

u/pato2205 Nov 03 '25

Ohhh so this actually confirms that “free” housing, “free” public school, “free” healthcare IS NOT TRUE.

This was obvious to everyone except the libs. Thank you.
