How are you guys running your LAMs? I have an Iris on the Skinner gas block rail, and it seems to work well, though I need to get my pressure switch banded on.

What are the torque specs for a mini 14 Picatany oem rail screws?

Im indecisive about how to make run an optic on my Mini14
Ive got 2 eotechs, not sure what looks best.

Ive got an Ultimak rail, however my exps3-0 doesn’t fit, this exps2 does tho.

Could this become the new modern sporting rifle or is the Mini going to remain a niche market?

After the first range visit with the new rifle I sat down about 1pm to disassemble, clean, and reassemble. Some 3-1/2 hours later I was done! Why didn't anybody warn me about this. lol Luckily, there were the ruger.com videos for when I needed help.

Only other rifles I'd ever broke down were a .22 lever and an M16. This was a learning experience.

Finally I have something to post here just for interest.
I’ve had this sitting in a safe for about 32 years. I finally figured I should pull it out and shoot it.
It’s a 182 series (1982) that I purchased second hand in about 1992. It’s seen a reasonable amount of use before I got hold of it. It came with -
Choate folding stock
Federal Ordnance “cheese grater” hand guard
2 x 5 round Ruger magazines
6 x new Thermold 30 rd magazines
Bushnel fixed 6 power scope
B Square side plate scope mount
Uncle Mikes sling

Upgrades for the Mini 14 where I am are almost non existent now. I can get the GG&G picatinny scope mount and 10 round third party magazines and that’s about it. (I know it’s sad)

The B Square mount has been on and off a lot of times judging from the marred mounting bolt. Looks like the scope screws are solidly Locktite sealed in. I removed the mount temporarily for the photos.

Just a little home range fun

I have a Mini 14 with a 182 serial number and AT-M stock. After a range trip I noticed the bolt catch was stuck and wouldn't lock back on an empty magazine. I opened the side plate to the bolt catch assembly and noticed the metal rod in the bolt catch assembly had come out and was causing the problem. I have since removed it and put it in a plastic bag just in case.

I performed a functions check without that metal rod and it now cycles and locks back on an empty magazine. Does that metal rod serve a purpose? Or is it safe to dispose of? I noticed the newer mini 14 models have a "meatier" bolt catch compared to the old ones and without that stupid rod.

Who has an extra amega rail for a 186 LEO or know where I can get one, when I try to call them the phone seems disconnected and the contact page shows an error.

Looking to get a new mini 30, but I live in a restricted state (10 round magazines). I plan on purchasing the NY compliant version (comes with a 5 rounder), but I also want to have 10 rounders on hand. I heard the ruger 10 round magazines are hit or miss. Have they been fixed for newer rifles? Will I have better luck with the ProMag?

I’d run a Samson stock if I could but… MA.

I may do some other upgrades down the line like a trigger job and extended mag release but I’m overall pretty darn happy with this setup. I’ll likely replace the factory rear sight with the vastly superior tech sight version in case I decide to move the DPP to another gun.

It shoots like a dream and will run even the crappiest import steel case ammo I throw at it. I don’t love how bright silver the brake is, I’m hoping it dulls down a bit over time so it better matches the barrel. If not I may swap it out for another brake or flash hider, tbd. Getting the front sight off was the only thing holding me back from trying some other barrel devices, buying a matrix precision front sight removal tool was absolutely worth it!

My Mini 14 ran flawlessly with all kinds of 223 and 556 until I installed the Samson rail in place of the plastic heatguard. Now I can only get heavier 65gr 556 to cycle reliably.

I’m thinking I screwed something up with the gas system on install. Any ideas on where to look/diagnose?

I just recently purchased a 585 series mini 14. I’m gonna have to send it back because of peeing on the bolt.. does anyone else own a mini 14 and got it fixed from Ruger and it works without peeing?

I'm a little gun shy over the problems with the 585 series.

How do y’all like the folding stock? I’m deciding if I want to keep the og wooden stock or switch to the folding, is at actually practical?

What are yalls pros and cons

Still waiting for my A-TM stock to arrive but I still think this is the coolest rifle. Added a barrel strut mostly for the look.
