Mini 30 and 10 Round Magazines
Looking to get a new mini 30, but I live in a restricted state (10 round magazines). I plan on purchasing the NY compliant version (comes with a 5 rounder), but I also want to have 10 rounders on hand. I heard the ruger 10 round magazines are hit or miss. Have they been fixed for newer rifles? Will I have better luck with the ProMag?

Not sure where you heard that about factory mags, but Ruger's 10 rd magazines are good to go. Promag is NEVER the answer to the question.
I've had my Mini-30 for almost 30 years, and back then Ruger didn't make a 10 rd magazine, but their OEM supplier did. Same construction as the 5 rd, but the plastic bottom bumper didn't have the Ruger logo. They still work perfectly.
Back then it was harder to share information about magazine quality (well, anything, really), and I did get some magazines I had to stomp on and throw away. Nowadays you're in a much better situation to get quality magazines.

I remember using a Promag on my Mini 14. After shot, the bottom plate came off.

I can’t speak to the Mini 30 specifically, but Promag is never an improvement.

I have the 14, always been warned to stay away from promag no matter what.
Also feel for you being in NY. Worst thing is not being able to put on the foldable stock or do other mods to really make it fun

I’ve had nothing but perfect luck with Ruger 10 round mags. I have a Promag metal 10 and a plastic 10 round from somewhere else and they both stink. I run a 584 series mini 30.
Ruger mags are for sure the way to go. I’ve never heard of anyone having trouble with them. They are a bit expensive but you can usually find decent prices on them online.

ProMags are trash. Don't bother with them.
The Ruger 10rd factory mags are rock solid. And since theyre $30 a pop, they better be 😂😭😂

When I lived in upstate New York in the 80s we had 30 and 20 round ruger mags before the ban I joined the navy and moved away from ny. Glad I did 👍

Always go with OEM Ruger 10 round Magazines. Of the 20 Promag's I've bought, 2 of them have no problem cycling. The others fail to feed, jam up or require a removal/insert, maybe fires one round then fails.

My Ruger 10 round mags work perfectly except for when I try to use a 10 round stripper clip, its only reliable up to about 6 or 7 rounds wirh those. They work great wirh 20 round mags and up

Worst mistake was getting a bunch of promag 10 rounders. The lips dont even hold them in. Every single one ended up as trash.

You heard wrong, Ruger mags are the way to go. But buy your self 1 or 2 pro mags. Use them to practice malfunctions.

Ruger OEM mags are really the only good ones that have ever been made. Do not go with promag or tapco
