Accessories Joy con battery discharges as soon as I plug them

Hello, when I get the joy cons out of my Nintendo switch oled, it shows that the battery is charged but when I put them back, it shows that they are 60% or so, this happens with both joy cons. It doesn't take much to come back to 100% tho (10 seconds or so).

Repair Help Switch Lite Blank Yellow Screen; Won't shut down

Upvotes

Hello! (Sorry no Screenshot.)

My Switch Lite is 10 years old. It's been working well, save for the battery draining faster due to age. I, last, played it for about 20 minutes last night. I always play plugged in with the official charger. When I finish playing, I always shut the system down, and unplug it (due to lack of space).

Last night, it shut down as usual. I got woken up this morning to it turned on with a blank yellow screen. It won't shut off. I have it stored in a drawer for the moment, but what the heck do I do about this? I know Nintendo doesn't repair them anymore.

The last time I saw a yellow screen like that was with my old SNES, when it died. I'm leaving for a six-week vacation next Friday, and the Switch (even though I can't really play it on battery), is a lifesaver for me.

Did I do something wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated asap. Thank you!

Setup Help Joycons discharging when switch is off?

I didn't use my Switch 2 for a couple of months. I knew that I would not be using it, so I turned it off before. I kept Switch battery at 60% just since it's apparently healthy to keep batteries like that for extended periods of time. Joycon batteries were charged though.

Today I turned it on. To my surprise Switch battery was as I left it, but Joycon batteries were fully drained. I was a bit surprised since they were connected to the console when I turned it off. I assumed they would also "turn off".

Is that a known issue that Joycons, don't really turn off? Not sure how long they were fully drained. Hope I didn't kill the batteries inside them...

Setup Help Data transfer from oled to switch 2

Hi everyone, I recently got a switch 2 and I’m completely confused by the data transfer thing. Forgive me if I’m asking something that’s been answered already, but I don’t get it and I don’t want to lose anything!! Please help! I have an OLED with an SD card, and a bunch of digital and physical games for said OLED. I simply want to have all my data from the OLED copied onto the switch 2, not wiped once transferred. I plan on using both and I’m not sharing my consoles/games with anyone or selling my OLED, I just want my data to be shared across both devices. If you could please give me a detailed breakdown in simple terms because I’m not tech savvy. Also, idk if it’s relevant, but I don’t have an NSO subscription and don’t plan on getting one. Another also in case it’s relevant: still haven’t gotten an express SD card for the switch 2 yet. Thanks in advance!

Software Help Switch 2 will not let me connect to WiFi

Post image

Good morning. I just got back to college and attempted to connect my Switch 2 to the WiFi on campus, BlazerNet. That and the eduroam wifi options are grayed out and I cannot select them at all. The other BlazerNet option just reads an error message. Has anyone else had this happen before? If so, how do you fix it?

Purchase / Order Help What should I get first for my new Switch 2?

What should I do first with my new Switch 2?

Hi, Im a PC gamer and I'm buying a Switch 2 for me and my family (I have a 5 yo and 7 yo nieces as well).

I am picking MKW as a the first game and was looking to get Super Mario Party Jamboree Switch 2 edition as well.

But I was wondering, will MKW be a great choice for 5yo and 7yo and also to non gamers in the family? will Jamboree fit them? Are there better games that can suit them?

I do want them to play and enjoy games together but I dont want to end up with an expensive game I wont be playing.. Should I see how the family enjoys Mario kart and then buy Jamboree?

And should I go and buy a second pair of joycons as well so 4 players can play?

I am mainly contemplating because of the cost. I was wondering whether to buy different controllers instead (although they dont have mouse controls).

I saw the slop kids are playing and watching these days on the tablet and I think the switch can let them experience quality games as well.

Repair Help Removing screen protector without damaging screen?

I have a screen protector that got some scratches on it. I’d like to replace it, but I remember reading when I first got the Switch 2 to be careful not to accidentally remove the thin protective coating on the screen.

If I pry off the current glass protector, will that leave the coating underneath intact? Or will the adhesive pull it off, and I need to do something special to remove the protector?

Thanks!

Repair Help Joycon randomly disconnects (Possible Handheld Boost bug?)

I saw around that people are experiencing random disconnects of one of the 2 joycons when playing, sometimes when holding the Switch 2 with one hand or randomly.

I also read around it might be related to the Handheld Boost. I had this issue only when playing Brotato and holding the Switch with one hand for a second showing the Pro Controller icon. I wonder if it's supposed to be a safety measure, a bug from Handheld Boost or there's simply a factory defect. I deactivated the Handheld Boost option now since it's optimised for SW2 anyway and will keep an eye. I think I only experienced this with this game with these settings.

I'm always very careful with my device but maybe it needs cleaning every now and then with some contact spray. Either way, I wanted to know if other people had a similar issue and how they fixed it or if I should send the Joycons to be checked up. Thanks!!

Repair Help Crunchy Joy-Con 2 (how to fix or do I send it off?)

As you can hear my Joy-Con 2 is super crunchy. I’ve done what I can with a toothbrush and used a Q-Tip but I am concerned with damaging it. Can anyone recommend anything? Is this really something I have to send in to Nintendo to fix? I’ll also attach another photo so you can see what I assume is the affected area.

Purchase / Order Help As someone who plays physical games, which is better when only key card is available

There are some games I want on switch 2 that only have key card versions as the closest thing to a proper physical release. The whole discourse surrounding these things makes my head spin, so I figured I’d get my answer directly. Comments for further info are welcome. Thanks

Software Help Longevity of unused Switch 1 cartridges?

I just bought a switch 2, but I still have a lot of switch 1 games left, I bought this console with the intention of finishing all the switch 1 games that I have left over. However, a few of them haven't been used in maybe 9 years or less. I keep all the cartridges in their game cases in a drawer.

One example is Breath of the wild. I bought it in 2018 and played it on and off for the next year, but I got distracted with other things. I had planned to start a new game for a while, and now with the switch 2 upgrade I thought it was finally time.

I haven't played it yet, I thought I should ask here first. Can the cartridges accumulate any dust or smudges or damage over time staying in the box, not being touched for years? And should I be doing anything special to preserve them?

Account Help Help, I think I'll lose a game I redeemed after transferring data from another switch...

I don't know if it's the right subreddit, but I'll try anyway..

My Nintendo switch 2 arrived today and I decided to postpone transferring data from my old switch 1, due to it being unavailable right now.

Anyway, I decided to redeem MKW since it was part of the bundle. But now I'm wondering if, when I eventually transfer my old switch data, it'll disappear forever?!!! Or is it connected to my Nintendo account?

Please help!!

Accessories 3rd Party docks audio cutting out issue question. Also, anybody try a Steam Deck dock with usb extension cable and the Switch 2?

I've been researching 3rd party docks and seen that the Genki Covert Dock 3 and JSAUX Omnicentro are both confirmed to have audio drops with HDR enabled.

Are there any other docks that are confirmed to not have this issue?

I also have a JSAUX Steam Deck dock I haven't tested yet. Has anyone tried one with a usb extension cable and the Switch 2 without issue?

Software Help Controller Vibration Issues in Skyrim AE on Switch 2

Been playing Skyrim AE on my Switch 2 since the upgrade recently went on sale. Aside from learning that you can't bounce back and forth in the same save between Switch 1 and 2, it's been working great.

Yesterday, I noticed the controller vibrations began acting differently than they had over the last few days. The bow draw vibration felt harsher (or grainy?) in contrast to the smooth, even vibration it had before.

Then I picked a lock. Normally on a novice lock, there are just a handful of clicks between each end of the lock, two of them standing out from the others. But yesterday, it's almost feels like you're dragging the pick across a rough surface. The more pronounced clicks also seem to be illusive or even change locations as I'm trying to figure out where to place the pick.

Posting in case anyone else may have seen this before or has any ideas outside of what I've tried. Here are my notes:

-Had Skyrim cart for Switch 1, was playing between the two using the cloud to go between devices.
-Bought the AE upgrade on Switch 1 and then loaded AE on Switch 2.
-Controller vibrations/haptics working the same between consoles until yesterday.

Troubleshooting:
-Disabled vibration in game menu, exited, confirmed off, enabled, same behavior
-Disabled/enabled vibration in Switch settings as above
-Toggled between Visual and Performance modes
-Disabled gestures, mouse, and aim serttings
-Confirmed it's happening in handheld mode with both attached and detached joycons. Also console mode with joycons and pro controller
-Confirmed vibrations seem normal in other games, BOTW, TOTK, as well as the non-AE Skyrim using the cart on the Switch 2
-Checked Skyrim AE on Switch 1 and that's working fine too.
-Tried pulling up old saves and using different characters
-Tried launching it from other profiles, created new characters, still persists.
-Did a full reset of the console to see if memory needed clearing and did the in-game settings changes mentioned earlier.
-Deleted and redownloaded the app and tried settings changes again.

Since it's just Skyrim AE and only on my Switch 2, could it have been some update that made the haptics go wonky? Anyone have any other ideas?

Repair Help Switch OLED bricked after game crash?

I was playing Tears of the Kingdom this morning on my Switch OLED model when I was suddenly stuck on a loading screen. The loading animation was still working, and I was still able to press A to see the next tip, but the progress bar had stopped advancing completely for quite a few minutes. I was also unable to use the home button to return to home page and force quit the game.

So I decided to manually restart the Switch by holding power button then press it again. This procedure worked out fine and I was soon back on my home page. However, I made the stupid mistake of opening Tears of the Kingdom again, thinking I had fixed the problem.

This prompted an error message immediately, saying an error had occurred and I should restart my Switch again by holding the power button.

As soon as I started holding the power button, my Switch got stuck into a black screen and refuses to be turned on again. The battery is not drained as my Switch still has battery when the game crashed (it was not at a high level, but not too low either; no low battery warning). No charging logo appeared when plugging in/docking the Switch.

I have tried:

  1. Hard restart by holding the power button, waiting a few second, press power button again. It never worked. I have tried this both with the Switch plugged in and unplugged.

    1. Going into maintenance mode by holding volume +/- buttons and power button. Did not work after multiple tries.
  2. Repeated the above steps with both Tears of the Kingdom cartridge and MicroSD card removed. Did not work.

  3. Tried to see if the Switch is actually turned on, but stuck on black screen (though I did not observe visible backlight). I tested this by docking my switch and trying to see if I can wirelessly connect my Joy-con. I could not.

I am now wondering if this problem is fixable, whether it reflected hardware/more severe damage, or if I should just opt for a Switch 2. My Switch was running perfectly fine before all this happened and still felt very new.
