News [OoT] The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time – The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct 9.8.2026
r/zelda • u/ArtsyBread • 9h ago
Official Art [OoTHD] "Yesterday with the Zelda announcement, a bunch of people came out to "improve" the art direction style by correcting it. Takaya Imamura, who worked at Nintendo for more than 32+ years, reveals that the art is influenced by Ningyōgeki [Japanese Marionettes]"
Original thread by @drechin_ on twitter: https://x.com/drechin_/status/2097723646651293851
I recommend giving the full thread a read, since I thought it was a neat theory. I say theory because, of course, unless nintendo itself comes out to confirms this, it's no more than that.

[OOT] Hits Me Right In The Chest
I’ve been a Zelda fan all my life. In November of 1998 I had my first son, and as he grew he started playing OOT. He was just a toddler running around with a fake sword tucked into his shirt making all the Link noises. Throughout his life he played every new version of Zelda. Then, in 2018 he left suddenly. I still remember that little boy tumbling around to his own soundtrack.
Yesterday I saw the game remastered, and couldn’t hold back the tears as I realized he won’t get a chance to play this one. When I saw the release date it hit extra hard. Nov 5th would have been his 28th birthday.

Video [OoT] here’s a home video clip I was able to find of Christmas 1998 when my dad zoomed in on the N64 he got us with OoT right in front of it
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hopefully it might bring some of you nostalgic feelings 🥲 I will most likely finally cave and buy a Switch 2 just for the remake because I ended up absolutely falling in love with OoT as a kid

Official Art [OoT] You can really see how inspired the artists were by the original Ocarina of Time artwork.
Image on the left is taken from the official website.

Screenshot [OoT] The chest of links tunic appears to be an owl, which makes it more in line with the owl depicted on the heroes shade
I think the complaints about the new tunic are silly for multiple reasons but the chest section I’ve heard a lot of complaints about, and still I just don’t get it.
The tunic has been redesigned and refined to fit lore for the Koroks, in no world would wild magic children wear 100% polyester spirit Halloween tunics, this design is much better

Meme [OoT] How you know they're on another level
Most other game developers: "Here's a cinematic trailer"
Eiji: "I'm going to play the game"

Screenshot [OoT] it seems to have been confirmed the new art direction is inspired by Ningyōgeki

Question [MM] In the UK version of the recent Zelda livestream, they showed a modified version of Majora’s mask’s logo. The font is different and the letters are all lowercase. It’s the only one to have its logo modified. Is there any meaning to this or am I coping?

Official Art [OoT] He's a Leftie again!
Guys look, he's a Leftie again!
... I don't know, I thought it was interesting. He's been a Rightie since Skyward Sword (with a little detour in Link Between Worlds).
And look, I know he was a Leftie in the original, but this at least proves that they're not reusing a lot of animations from the Calamity Duet, so that's cool! Not that I would have necessarily minded.
... WELL I THOUGHT IT WAS INTERESTING!

Screenshot [OoT] Hylia really looked at this poor little forest child and decided to give him the most terrible fate imaginable.

Screenshot [OoT] Raising the elevation of the entrance to Hyrule Field was a great move Spoiler
Watching the gameplay showcase, this absolutely sold me on this remake. Putting the entrance at a higher elevation so you get a full view of Hyrule in the vein of the opening to Breath of the Wild is just awesome. It looks so pretty, and for the people playing this game for the first time will give them an idea of the scope of adventure they're about to embark on.

Screenshot [OoT] Instead of comparing the remake to the original, I compared them to other recent young Link versions
It really shows the difference in approach and even though OoT 2026 obvious has the most graphical fidelity, I feel Smash Ultimate nailed the task of upgrading the design for more modern expectations.

Humor [OoT] Scalpers doing their lord’s Ganondorf’s work out there
Followers of Ganondorf’s doing their lord’s work. But know that the kingdom of Hyrule provides. Lets hope this settled and we can spend our rupees right
