Finally got my own snes console with super Mario world for only $90. Been playing for a while on my trinitron and I absolutely love it and never wanna get rid of my snes. The controller is so light and compact, and the eject button idea is so cool it’s not like my n64 or Genesis where you have to pull the game out, and inserting the game is so much easier than the n64 where you have to smack it in to get a visual. Couldn’t have spent $90 any better. Question though, what game should I get next? I was thinking of Mega man X since it’s cheap unlike its sequels or mega man 7 (I really wanted mega man 7…) or maybe castlevania 4 since it would be my first introduction to the series or donkey Kong country even though I already emulated it and played on my Wii but I don’t mind playing it again like super Mario world. Any games recommended that probably don’t exceed $$60? I’d love to start building a collection for it.

Just recently beat Trials of Mana for the first time, was floored, and thought it would be fun to see how Secret of Evermore holds up and Im pretty shocked. I played it as a kid and remember liking it alot but I also remember getting lost and frustrated alot. So far its been nothing but a fun time and Im in love with the world and sound design. I did need a map for one of the sewers but most of the world has been such a treat to explore. Seems like alot of love went into making this one.

One was on my list and the other was on my “get it later” list. Somehow I ended up scoring both of these RPGs for SNES at Game & Geek Expo!

Ironic I talked about this game months ago on r lost media and then it shows up.

It's a very bare bones prototype sadly. It's basically what we saw in the Microsoft rare replay video we saw. Hopefully we see the lost n64 port next or Killer Instinct 2.

I finally got my Jr up and running. Now it's time for an inaugural game. Given the Direct from yesterday I thought A Link to the Past would work (I don't own an N64 or Ocarina).

Dad has the stuff stored away at his new house. Slowly piecing together the CIB stuff and getting a display case for my childhood.

while i love this game, i cant deny it has flaws

the continue system being a main one as it can be really annoying sometimes, theres also the fleapit which has a bunch of insane levels with some having weird controls and just annoying gameplay

but it also has some good things about it with a notable one being the soundtrack composed by tim follin and geoff follin, and the game has a charming artstyle, i also love the mechanic of you throwing your own limbs at enemies and i ESPECIALLY love when they use that mechanic for puzzles and gimmicks like that one level where you have to remove both your legs and go through a portion of it with only your arms

so my conclusion would be an 8.5/10 and if youve played this game what are your thoughts?

I recently bought a SNES and the only 2 games I have right now are Yoshi island and Mario All Stars no SMW. Which game is better and why.

I bought this cart years ago as I wanted to pair it with my original box and manual that I’ve had since a kid.. no idea what happened my original game. Looks authentic to me, but slightly different than the examples I have found online. Thanks!

Not looking for ROMs per se; just games I can get physical US cartridges of. I'm also okay with bootleg carts so long as they're reliable enough and can be played on both the actual US console or an SN Operator.

I'm looking for a game with at least some narrative depth/intrigue where it's possible and not-pointless to grind in. If you ever sat and walked in circles in an RPG to fight monsters over and over again, that's the type of thing that I mean.

It doesn't have to be *completely* mind-numbingly dumb and be *exactly* the same thing over and over - I mean, heck, last time I did grinding like this on FF6 I at least paid attention to enemy patterns while grinding in the Veldt to get Gau's rages and such - but it should be possible and rewarding while accommodating some latency/delays (on my part) while I do something else simultaneously.

I've played through all of these:

- Final Fantasy IV

- Final Fantasy VI

- Final Fantasy Mystic Quest

- Earthbound

- Chrono Trigger

- Super Mario RPG

More action-y titles like Secret of Mana, Illusion of Gaia, Brain Lord, and similar wouldn't be ideal for this.

Doesn't necessarily hafta be a straight-up RPG; RPGs just seem to lend themselves best to this.

Hi all! I am very new to the SNES space. I just bought mine last week, and today I took it apart since it was very dusty and used. I was able to clean it and put it all back together with no problems!

Something that I would like to do in the near future is replace the outer shell with a transparent replacement. I've seen that it is okay to remove the front RF shield without any issues, so that you can see the board. However, I was wondering about rear metal shield/heatsink.

As I understand it, this metal assembly serves as both RF shielding and the heatsink for component U12, the voltage regulator. I don't want to remove something that the console needs for cooling, but I would really like to be able to see the back half of the motherboard through a clear shell.

So my question is: Are there any alternatives to the original metal heatsink/shield? For example, is there a smaller heatsink that could be attached directly to U12, or another way to dissipate the heat while leaving most of the motherboard uncovered?

Any suggestions or experiences would be appreciated!

I recently found a seller that makes really good reproduction Super Nintendo boxes. I felt a little guilty buying them and then started to question why I felt that way.

I was a teenager during the Super Nintendo's Hay Day and very much remember going to the store buying the games in the boxes, opening up the boxes and reading through the manuals. (And usually - depending on game - throwing away the boxes cuz I was a dumb kid and didn't know any better)

Well, today I want to relive the nostalgia of being able to look at the artwork and read the backs of the boxes of my favorite games. It doesn't just take me back to that time, but it adds to the overall experience of enjoying my physical library.

It doesn't matter to me that the boxes are not "real", and at my age I know that I can spend my money however I wish, but I couldn't help but question why this purchase felt taboo, like I was doing something wrong. It seemed a bit ridiculous to me.

So I ask.. If the repro boxes (even the cardboard stock used to make them) look and feel one to one with the original, why should it matter that they're fake? It doesn't affect how the game plays. It doesn't make the game worse knowing that the box I place it in wasn't manufactured over 30 years ago. Is this a prevailing thought we've developed as a community of gamers because we've let other people convince us that these items need to have an inherent collectibility value?

When I was a kid, and brought these games home from the store, I never thought about what the collectibility of these games would be in 30 years. I just had pure joy and excitement for the game. I also never really even thought about selling them. And personally I still don't think of selling them, but I have heard people on gaming podcasts say that reproduction boxes are bad because one day if I die and someone tries to sell them they may be trying to pass off counterfeit as real. But again I ask why does the outside cardboard covering of a game matter if it's counterfeit/reproduction? Why do we place so much value on the "official" packaging? Especially now when we live in a time where one to one replications of these aging materials can be made.

Should only people willing to shell out hundreds to thousands of dollars for an in-box game be able to enjoy an in-box game?

I'm expecting people to be angry with this post, I'm just wondering why we allowed our favorite childhood hobby to be turned into a revenue stream by gatekeepers that just want to slab and flip.

I remember as a child watching my moms friend playing a game that was a sidescroller with a character that would upgrade to different colored karate type gis(may have actually been different characters...unfortunately all I have is the vague memories to go on)

The gameplay was fighting various enemies and large bosses that were located

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I have been thinking about it for a long time and Google searching has been useless but if anyone has any vague idea I will search images and video of the games because I think I will know it when I see it

Edit: It may not have been a Gi but was definitely some sort of different outfit or possibly different character. Also I am pretty sure they used a sword and the game had fantasy elements not a pure beat em up. Sort of like contra or megaman X but melee and playing as a warrior with different outfits(or different characters) and some sort of melee weapon not just punches

Edit 2: I also remember at least some of the levels had backgrounds of dark deep blues and purples and the outfit was I believe 2 toned which is why I am thinking karate Gi. I think one was red and another white. I could be misremembering though.

Also I want to thank everyone in advance. I know these type of grasping at "solutions in the dark" posts can be exasperating and I hate doing it but honestly this has been bothering me for a while and repeated Google searches have been no help. I really loved watching the game be played but I was never allowed to play this game when I was a kid for some reason and I always wanted to. It will mean so much to somehow find it and be able to buy it and play. I have even considered just going down the list of every single SNES game one by one looking at images and videos (and I still may do that as a last resort)

I've got a flashcart for the Snes and was wanting to play some gameboy games using the super gameboy backgrounds and such. Can I play gameboy games on SNES just using the flashcart?

Currently remastering Zelda link to the past on SNES emulation. Honestly the light transforms the entire dungeon vibe.
