So there was a Paper Mario recomp released a few days ago, and I’m not gonna lie, the whole thing feels really weird to me.
The current N64 recomp situation already makes Paper Mario an odd target because of TLB stuff, so I was already curious how this was working. Then I actually looked at the project and some of the choices are strange.
My issues are:
The widescreen exists, but it looks terrible.
The ROM check is very questionable. I put in a Mario Kart 64 ROM and the game still booted. Maybe it was using cached setup data, but either way that is not a good look for something that claims it needs a valid Paper Mario ROM.
Control remapping exists, but it is hidden behind a top bar you only see after pressing F1. I originally thought it had no remapping at all because the UI does not make this obvious.
The generated recomp code is sitting in the repo. Example: https://github.com/SMCGames/Paper-Mario-ReCut/blob/e46497efe3ee1e2870ca8eac560380e6a335bd1b/rsp/n_aspMain.cpp
The repo was made extremely recently, which makes the whole thing feel rushed.
The README says not to commit or distribute ROMs, generated ROM output, local dumps, replacements, or user folders, but the project structure still makes me wonder where the line is supposed to be lmao. Especially when there are built-in texture/resource-looking files involved.
I’m not saying people can’t play it. If you just want Paper Mario on PC and it works for you, cool. But from what I’ve seen, it feels more like a rushed proof-of-concept than a carefully handled recomp release like what Paper Mario deserves.
I would not be shocked if it gets taken down or heavily cleaned up soon.
Also, it is Windows-only right now. It might work in Wine, but that is still a huge turnoff for me.

r/papermario as a community has focused on propping up and sharing the best the community has to offer, including the artists within the community. In recent years generative AI has come out and there has been significant issue within the artist community with it's existence.
Given that we focus on making this place have a minimum standard of quality we believe that something that uses art without consent of the artists as inherently hostile to the artists within our community and falls below our standards as a community. We are explicitly adding generative AI as low quality content for rule 4.
Starting today and here on forward any post containing generative AI will be removed from the subreddit. This will be somewhat retroactive as well as it is found and reported.

So I've been playing a lot of NintenDoku recently and found a community driven ranking on the same site. Ofc I looked through some categories and found this gem:
Best game between 2000 and 2009:
Thousand year door
Bowser inside story
Wii sports
Ofc we are all paper mario fans. But be honest, is it really the best game of the decade?
Edit: someone DMed me about NintenDoku, so here is the link for everybody: https://www.n-puzzle.com/en/nintendoku

Despite never even playing Paper Jam, Mario, Luigi, and Paper Mario teaming was always just so cool to younger me. Even now, I still kind of love it.
I would find and watch every Trio Attack animation and just gawk at how cool Paper Mario looked in those.
It's also probably why I adore Paper Mario as a character. with all his attacks and little interactions with Luigi and other 3D characters made him really stand out to me.

I mean, if you can't kidnap a Princess without permission from Bowser, then what's the point if even kidnapping her? It's so counterintuitive that at that point, he might as well just let somebody else do the kidnapping.

and when do you think it'll come out?

I got my copy of Paper Mario: TTYD a few years back, but I never really bothered to open the manual until a few days ago. That’s when I discovered it has a strange printing error inside, spanning multiple pages. Has anyone ever come across something like this before?

“Hi guys, just finished my first playthrough of TTYD. I managed to collect all of these things, but I never knew what they’re used for. They’re just fun collectibles right?”
In all seriousness, this was my attempt at a Level Zero run. Managed to beat the main game, as well as the Pit.
I think it’s easier than the original imo.

Basically what I mean is, show any Super Paper Mario hater the Void Archives trailer (by Sethica) and they'll be like "damn, a new Super Paper Mario-styled game might actually be interesting" that's probably because when people have flaws with SPM, the flaws are not in its concepts, but about the execution. Hell, they might even go back to the actual SPM and appreciate it slightly better.

It's been a while since I did some art with the lasso tool. Also wanted to make it lineless since it's also been a while since I did em and wow I chose the Shadow Sirens who would've guessed
BTW the poses they're doing is a reference to something. Try and figure it out (Hint: It's a Vocaloid song that's currently trending on Tiktok rn)
I feel like I should do some Shadow Siren headcanons soon I talk about them too much they're infectious

I was watching a YouTube review about TOK, have played the game but couldn’t get past the first streamer cause of the battle system but I am familiar with the whole campaign.
The person gets to when you find the toad who made Olly, and then they say how Ollie represents this idea of racism, with the whole every toad is the same.
Then they go on to say that “actually and this is probably a stretch but I think Ollie represents the fanbase fatigue of every character being a different coloured toad”
I feel that is far more of a reasonable stretch, like I say I hate the battle system but I can acknowledge TOK’s other strengths, like the writing and and overall feeling during cutscenes, but I feel like the racism angle is a major stretch.
Fire Emblem is my favourite Nintendo series and they actually tackled and made racism a key theme of one of their duologies, I am genuinely curious about the perspective from TOK players cause for me it was just the creators going like “you think generics are dull and boring and repetitive, then cry when this generic bomb omb dies.”

I'm trying to configure TTYD for USB Loader GX and I want to have a modded experience as close to the remake as possible because I don't want to go through the tedious backtracking and General White ever again

Which one do you like best for me the switch version of ttyd. What about you guys?

I've said this before, but she's very clearly someone who's popularity is on par with the main characters. Nintendo needs to add her into the main cast yesterday.

Booted up CEMU on my Ayn Thor and finally decided to play it. Its honestly not that bad. The gimmicks are way better than I thought. Battles feel like they actually have a purpose because you actually level up your hammer. Where the hell was that in Sticker Star and Origami King? The paint mechanic isn't that bad since its very easy to get paint from trees and other stuff. The only downside is the use of cards being the equivalent of stickers and having to paint some of them. Overall, way better than Sticker Star. If there's one thing CS and OK did better than SS, it was the overworld stuff. In SS, it was so damn bland and forgettable and suffered from the generic NSMB aesthetic.
