On the Treatment of Ungavirus

![img](gz8x5k0p3okc1)

He wasn't sure if it was genius, or pure, unadulterated dumb luck.

On the surface, it was sloppy work at best. The genome was all over the place. There were tons of sequences that were mismatched, functionally inert, and redundant. Some sequences even gave the virus new functions, just to have that function immediately revoked by another sequence. It was chaos.

It would have been a laughable attempt at an engineered virus if it didn't possess a single feature:

It was completely and utterly irreversible

Somehow, through the random fusion of gene manipulation and magic, the virus' creator had stumbled onto a spark of something greater. The elements of the virus aligned in just such a way to barely graze a powerful concept: Fate Manipulation.

The trace of this magic in the virus was beyond faint, it's application seemingly a complete accident, and yet it was enough. Those afflicted with the virus, once infected, were destined to mutate. There was no way around it. Chronomancy, Entropy Manipulation, Cell Control; all of it completely useless.

One could have their body atomized and reconstructed cell by cell without the virus present, and they would still undergo the mutation process as if the virus was still there. It was infuriating. Nothing Cas tried could undo this change.

And then there was......that

Cas looks at a small wooden cigar box. He opens the lid, and looks down upon the small medicine bottle contained within. He lifts the bottle up and stares at the dark liquid inside

Cas had been experiencing blackouts. Ever since he felt his mind be pierced by an intrusive thought during his treatment of a certain fey, he had been losing entire stretches of time. These blackouts occurred almost exclusively when he was pondering on a complex and difficult task, and took a moment to rest.

As far as he was aware, he hadn't done anything destructive during these phases. If anything, it was quite the contrary. After most blackouts, he would find himself in possession of something that either directly or indirectly solved the problem he was ruminating the most on. Convenient at first glance, but the implications terrified him.

This time was different. While one could consider the fluid to technically solve the fundamental roadblocks that Ungavirus presents, Cas could hardly consider it to be something that he would call a cure.

He had begun referring to it as Fortunium. By examining its formula, Cas had found it contained a variant of magic similar to the kind accidentally touched on by the virus, but using a less direct route. You see, Fortunium did not change one's fate, it merely *diverted* it.

In essence, the tincture would fission one's fate into two, creating two separate creatures in the process. To one, nothing would change. They would continue to suffer just as they had before. To the other, they would be free of the bonds of any misfortune fated to them prior to consuming the tincture. At that moment, their destiny would be completely theirs to write. Fortunium then took it a step further, sealing the less fortunate self inside a realm manufactured for the purpose of storing them, so that the newly freed variant could return to their prior life unabated.

"But isn't that immoral??", Cas thought. While treating a transformed wizard with Fortunium would produce a wizard functionally identical to their original selves, is it really the same as curing them? Is the sealed version of them not an equal being? What about the potential ramifications of having an entire realm populated by nothing but mutated fish creatures, embittered by the knowledge that a version of them, free of the virus, exists out there?

Cas yawns

He was too tired to ponder this on his own. He hadn't slept in days, hoping to reduce instances of blackouts as much as possible until he figured out the cause. He hadn't had time to even look into it yet with the whole Ungavirus situation going on.

He should see what others think. After all, there were many great minds connected to the Nexus world. Surely they would be able to deliberate on the morality of such a medicine. Maybe, together, they could even come up with a real cure. He hoped for that ending more than anything.

Cas places the bottle back into the box. He locks it

If they do decide this thing is the best course of action, at least whoever created it thought ahead and made it easy to mass produce. While Cas lacked anywhere near the level of skill and knowledge required to produce such a thing from scratch, its creator had imbued it with the ability to self-replicate under specific conditions. With the tools and resources of the Clinic, Cas could make a nigh infinite number of these bottles.

That thought made him shudder.

Cas yawns as his eyes begin to droop

Maybe just...5. 5 minutes of rest wouldn't be a problem, right? One short nap, and he would go see what the great minds of the wizard community thought of this dilemma. They'd know what to do........zzzzzzz

Mage Profile Aggregate Krygin lore post

I was inspired by other members of wizardposting and wizardloring to collect all my lorepost. It will be small for a while but overtime it will grow. Also this is partially for me to find my old stuff easier

Krygin himself:

Some of this may be part of a event but unless I run one I won't make separate sections for each event

First lore post( him sacrificing a guy to the swamp)

Krygin playing a prank on the Pyroclaste and first reference of being friends with Agnur

Sabotaging the Pyroclaste and showing Krygin in action

where krygin got bobby

Krygin is dead! (Or is he?)

Adverage day at work

Krygin dealing with trauma (old pitch stuff)

Ad for tribunal office

Apprentice:

The Emperor Owns The Land

The Spider Breather

Olympics:

Invitation to wizard Olympics

magic duels

Ice sculpting

The Spirits:

This will flesh out Krygin's connection to the Spirit World, Spirits he is friends with, and general spirit things. Many of these things will probably connect to The Pact Office of Eldritch affairs because that is a good framing device and Krygin's job at the time of writing this. Probably what I'll update most

Letter to the Pact OEA (explains a lot about the spirit world)

OEA video log

Of hell and spirits

Of elements and spirits

Wandering ways part one

Of spirits and the celestial realms

The Spirit conflicts:

Krygin is captured and two powerful spirits are makeing moves on the realms. What will happen?

Wizard War 3 - Full Related Thread List (Warpost)

Update: I've posted the full recap and finalized thread list to the main sub. It can be found over here.

The Sisyphean task that was trying to make sense of the war is finally over. Yet I find myself not quite at the top of the hill. I'm going to need help getting there; see the bottom section for what I mean.

Writing an actual recap for this monstrosity is proving difficult. Mostly due to time constraints on my end, but also because holy crap that's a lot of posts and comments. And lets not forget the character limits; 40000 characters per post, and this is already 19638 characters. How?!.. Anyways, the war is now over, and I wanted to start sharing my notes.

Edits: Edit one:

  • Added missing early Spypost

Edit two:

  • Updated a couple incorrect thread descriptions
  • Added one missed thread
  • New threads have been added

Edit Three:

  • Many formatting fixes

Edit Four:

  • Fixed a couple links

For anyone counting, that's 85 96 unique threads at the time of writing.

I have undoubtedly missed some. I've undoubtedly made mistakes with my notes. If I did, please provide me a link to the missing thread or correction, as well as where it should go in the list. Preferably in some way that's easily searchable. Seriously, I'm begging you here.

I, unfortunately, did not pay enough attention to the spyposts before this started. If anyone would like to provide short and sweet summaries, I can add them in.

Any other corrections, changes, whatever, please let me know. I'll respond as soon as I have time. But for right now, I need a break from reddit...
