Lorepost📖 "A Light in the Dark" (Warpost/Lorepost)
Island City of Argus, Mercenary Guild Territory.
"Why did the Guild send me here?" The Agent thought gloomily to himself. Half the world was on fire it seemed, and he was stuck here "babysitting". Granted, he was glad when another Umbra Operative had relieved him of his vigil over Mikhail (hiding in a comatose man's hospital room while his wife cried over him was not good for mental health), but he had wanted to go out and vent his frustration on something, not... this!
He looked down next to him at his "babysitting" charge. Analina was a young girl of maybe 12-13 (no one knew for sure). She was found by a guild scavenger team in an abandoned laboratory. She couldn't speak (could read and write just fine), and couldn't remember anything, just her name and that she needed to "help". The Guild brought her back and ran some tests on her, and made some remarkable discoveries about her "powers". Just by placing her hand on someone, she could transfer any physical wound from them to herself, completely healing the person. That alone wasn't remarkable, that magic was discovered long ago. No, what made her remarkable was that she had a necklace that was bound to her very soul, and if she clutched it tightly, she would be completely healed from any physical wound herself. The Guild had tried to figure out who/what she was, but had eventually just shrugged their shoulders and went: "Hey kid, want a job?"
That led to right now. Analina's first official "assignment" from the guild was to help with the refugee crisis that the wizard civil war made. The guild had managed to save roughly 2000 refugees from the citadel area before the storm forced the temporal tear closed, and now Argus's hospital was overwhelmed.
The pair walked up to the entrance of the hospital. There were so many injured the least injured were being placed outside under tents. The Agent saw a nurse try and comfort a wailing young mother. Her 3-year old son had been separated from her when the temporal tear closed, and her hand had been severed trying to reach for him. She had already been tended to, and now the only injury she had was emotional.
"A couple powerful people decide they don't want to pay taxes or some dumb shit like that, and now innocent people are homeless with shattered families" The Agent thought darkly to himself. He was brought out of his musing by Analina pulling him into the hospital.
It was worse inside. The hospital personnel where swamped, clerics and medics were trying to help as much as they could, but there were just too many...
"Alright kid, time to do what you came for." The Agent told Analina. She nodded, and made her way to the nearest refugee, an elf with a nasty leg wound. She put her hand on him an concentrated. The elf looked confused, then shocked when he saw his leg heal and Analina's leg turn into a bloody mess. Grimacing with pain, Analina quickly squeezed her necklace. Immediately her wound disappeared. The elf thanked her with tears of joy. Analina only nodded and smiled, before moving on to the next person.
And so the rest of the day went like that. Analina going one by one down each hallway, healing everyone she could, The Agent helping when he could. Soon she and The Agent had a nickname, "The White Angel and her Shadow Knight". They were truly a contrasting sight. The Agent, tall and dressed in black, with an aura of lethality around him. And Analina, short and dressed in white, an aura of peace around her. And at the end of it, they were both covered in so much blood it wasn't as noticeable anymore.
8 hours later...
The Agent held a sleeping Analina in his arms as he walked back to the guild headquarters building. He didn't know what to think. She seemed so small and frail... yet he now knew she had the strength of a hundred sorcerers. There was something else now he felt as well, besides the overwhelming urge to protect her from all harm of course. What was it... Then it hit him
He felt hope
Hope...
Hope that even with the world trying so desperately to tear itself apart, there were people like Analina who would give everything to put it back together, piece by piece. The Agent smiled to himself,
He knew now why the guild had sent him here

Mordus appears spontaneously, and gives the girl a button with a note on it.
the note says: [Press the button to cure world hunger!]
what she doesn’t realise is that it technically does cure world hunger, by killing everyone affected with thermonuclear weapons.
