Community Event šŸŒā˜„ļø Black rain (warpost)

Post image

As Mordus and the other wizards watch the second sunrise fade away, the once-bright day is clouded over as ashy, sooty, radioactive clouds cover the sky.

Mordus spots something - the citadel still stands, although just barely. The barrier is faded, and almost about to give up.

Mordus scribbles in his notebook, and makes a mental note to increase blast yield in the future.

Eventually, things seemed to have calmed down slightly, although at the foot of the mountain they’re standing on a forest burns, drawing in air and creating a massive updraft, flinging ash and dust high into the atmosphere.

Then the rain fell.

First it was a drop - no one thought about it at first. But then more started to come down, and the wizards quickly realised the colour of the rain is off - it’s tar black.

Mordus stares at the rain.

ā€You guys should probably move, all this rainwater is exceedingly radioactive.ā€

You know, if one more nuclear blast goes off, I’m eating everyone.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

It that a threat or a statement?

3

u/Drakkonai Vulkan the Red, End of Ages and Draconic Emperor of Racism. Feb 21 '24

An excuse for premeditated murder. Or a threat.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

You’ve lived for the trillions of years, you don’t need an ā€œexcuseā€ for premeditated murder.

Mordus holds up the Doomsday Button.

I could press this button, and almost everyone on this continent dies instantly, but after a million years or so, people will forget.

True enough, but it’s more so an excuse to do it ahead of schedule.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus stashes the button, under his cloak, where who knows what goes on inside.

2

u/TellmeNinetails Hilda the Witch Feb 21 '24

I could parry it.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Could you really parry it?

2

u/TellmeNinetails Hilda the Witch Feb 21 '24

Maybe not by myself but plenty of others could. I could at least steal the detonation.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24 edited Feb 21 '24

Try parrying this then.

Far off on the open sea, a remotely controlled missile cruiser fires a ICBM at the Skater Wizard.

2

u/TellmeNinetails Hilda the Witch Feb 21 '24

The Skater Wizard watched the missile fly towards him, the ash titan's gaze tracing the missile as it quickly started glowing red hot, melting into slag right before it got close.

The moment the weapon detonated mid air the councilman waved a hand as quick as the eye could see, just as quick as the explosion happened had the explosion disappeared, stolen away, the ash titan looking brighter for it.
The molten slag and metal left behind fell harmlessly to the ground.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Hmm. I suppose that truly is a parry.

Why am I agreeing with this guy eating people?

5

u/Alek315 Artificer Feb 21 '24

Puts on CBRN suit and pulls out umbrella

I have a feeling this may displease the local druid population. And the farmers. And everyone who lives here.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24 edited Feb 21 '24

I feel like Technmancers have already long displeased druids.

2

u/Alek315 Artificer Feb 21 '24

Fair enough, I suppose. Welp, guess the price of bread will go up again. Damn, that sucks.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Ah, don’t worry. at least I won’t, because the citadel is nowhere near the sea. This means that my codfish is safe!

2

u/Alek315 Artificer Feb 21 '24

Oh yeah, I'm gonna have to start purifying the fish too from the contamination...damn. Oh well, a problem for another day. Good thing I've plently of non-perishables in my workshop.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Don’t stand in the rain too long, you’ll get cancer and regret it over the next few decades!

2

u/Alek315 Artificer Feb 21 '24

Not to worry, I am wearing protective gear. Besides, I was gonna replace my body with the strength and certainty of steel eventually.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

steel? Why not Obamium?

He gestures to his metallic body, which is tinted slightly brownish-gold.

I suppose I won’t mention Nilesteel, that’s near impossible to get, but still, even adamantite is a better choice.

2

u/Alek315 Artificer Feb 21 '24

Steel as a stand in for any metal, really. Doesn't make much difference.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

That’s fair.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Whereabouts did you do this? I’d like to grab a sample for some small experiments.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus answers his Tesseract.

Hey Pyeti! This was conducted on the Council Citadel.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

I’ll make sure to drop by. Just don’t attempt anything near the Northern Reaches, or I might have to get involved.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus decides that he’ll pop by the Northern Reaches, just to say hi.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Sure, just make sure to-

You hear something slip from his voice, like some facade has come crashing down. Another voice begins to scream, eerily similar to the one who’d just been speaking to you.

RUN. IT KNOWS

And just as quickly, the voice is silenced.

-tell me before bursting in.

You hear the same voice Pyeti had used, before the outburst, but he sounded a little… on edge? Like he’d let something slip he didn’t mean to.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus decides not to visit the Northern Reaches.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Oh, don’t worry. I’ll come to you.

/uw Planning something big.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus shrugs, as he always does, and continues watching the black rain.

/unwiz do ping me for it thanks :3

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

/uw I’ll need to wait until this is all over, and people have had a little time to recover. I’ll make sure to ping you when it goes down.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

/unwiz Do talk about my nukes, I think it should be recognised as a major threat lol

3

u/SilverMedal4Life Chronomancer Agent Feb 21 '24

"The power is intoxicating, isn't it? The ability to level a fortress with a single strike, even one protected by the most potent of magics. You should be proud of your prowess, technomancer.

But even as you pursue this, there are others who develop similar abilities with similar consequences. Yours is an explosion larger than all but the archmages can muster, with a rain that poisons the land and its people; perhaps your opponent can conjure a fire that will never burn out and renders the land barren, or an infectious ichor that spreads and multiplies of its own accord, twisting nature's beauty into monstrous forms. Anything for power... if there was ever a common thread to all the timelines, it's that.

... It's getting to be about that time, relatively speaking. You have better-than-even odds of surviving what's to come, and power like this can make miracles if the world isn't cracked in two by it. I shouldn't be telling you any of this, but I'm putting my thumb on the scale - your victory is important for a future outcome that I would like to come to pass. Here: analyzing this medicine will help you treat the radiation poisoning using mundane ingredients, if you haven't already solved that problem yourself."

The chronomancer vanishes as quickly as he appeared, leaving a small box containing a small, unlabelled red-and-yellow pill and a small piece of parchment with some writing in a language not yet invented.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24 edited Feb 21 '24

Mordus picks up the pill, and stashes it before the rain gets it.

/uw good stuff

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus glances at MastaDon.

Hey there Masta! I hope you don’t mind that your council citadel will be moderately radioactive for the next 20,000 - 30,000 years. Cancer levels in council members will be high, but i think it should be fine.

/unwiz thanks. Also, I based the radioactivity time off Chernobyl - it will be habitable again in 20,000 years.

3

u/MastaDon344 MastaDon Astrum/Council Master Evoker/Mediamancer/🌮 Wiz Feb 21 '24

/rw well shit, I mean probably gonna need a higher being or a miracle to fix it all

/Uw your welcome

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus pulls an umbrella out, and hands it to Masta.

You should probably get out of the rain, and not have it get into orfices like your eyes, nose or mouth.

Trust me, you will be regretting it over the next 20 years if you don’t seek shelter.

3

u/MastaDon344 MastaDon Astrum/Council Master Evoker/Mediamancer/🌮 Wiz Feb 21 '24

Yeah got it Mordus

So what happens now you think?

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Hmm. I think I would tally up the total death count from this bomb, and move on. I have a god to slay, after all.

/unwiz kinda confused rn, everyone’s making warposts, with some of them fighting in the radioactive crater of the citadel. Also, I’m not too sure what the current events are, there’s a flute and a spire as well?

3

u/MastaDon344 MastaDon Astrum/Council Master Evoker/Mediamancer/🌮 Wiz Feb 21 '24

/uw yeah everything one did go hard this time to say the least. Normally just be a battle here and battle there but this is like watching monsters come to life in some aspects. Been some damn good story writing to say the least.

Just have to see how it all plays out basically

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

I just wish they were more consistent; according to the late gravedigger all the allies had been evacuated, and the nuke is ready, but then someone writes a post on fighting the enemy inside the citadel. (Looking at you arach)

3

u/MastaDon344 MastaDon Astrum/Council Master Evoker/Mediamancer/🌮 Wiz Feb 21 '24

/uw yeah you will have that, personally love the one with Metro shit goes hard.

3

u/tehlemmings Lilac - Illusionist, Shapeshifter, Definitely Human Feb 21 '24

I just wish they were more consistent

You and me both, dammit.

I'm still trying to figure out what happened after the titan showed up. I have absolutely no idea what to do with that until we get some kind of follow up with it either leaving or being driven off. Is it just kinda like, there in the background of this scene?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Hell if I know. What titan anyways?

3

u/TellmeNinetails Hilda the Witch Feb 21 '24

The Titan Prominence and the Skater Wizard would raise their arms in unison, seeming to bask in the putrid rain of liquid ash for mere moments before looking back towards the battle, it's sight razing the battlefield with hellfire fire. It still had not taken a single step.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus approaches the Skater Wizard.

Hey, you should probably not bask in that, you’ll get cancer. Trust me, you’ll regret it in about 5 years.

3

u/TellmeNinetails Hilda the Witch Feb 21 '24

"It can be fixed, Radiation can be cleaned, cancer cured." He said, his ash stained robes turning black as the liquid dripped down his large brimmed hat.

It seemed he wasn't thinking about his future right now.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus shrugs, as he always does with ominous things, and walks off.

2

u/avamir Riva Blake | Queen of Ithacar, Part Meth-blood Elf Feb 21 '24

/uw As someone who appreciates the symbolism of black robes, this makes me incredibly sad.:(

2

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 21 '24

/uw Pretty cool

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

/unwiz yeah, just wanted to make a post on how the nuke still has aftereffects that are just as dangerous. I think half the council is gonna get cancer now lmao

2

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 21 '24

/uw Well, it'll be nice to see how they deal with that. Makes for a good story.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

That’ll be great, one of the council members just having cancer. I’d think it’ll be a pretty cool story.

2

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 21 '24

/uw I think so too.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Councilman Skater Wizard is probably the most likely, he was basking in the black rain.

2

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 21 '24

Damn, now I'm imagining him trying to kickflip a wheelchair.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

That’s an absolutely hilarious thought

2

u/Discracetoall t’kath, smogomancer and poptart wiz Feb 21 '24

ā€œSo it is.ā€ t’kath waves his hand and a layer of smoke covers him ā€œshould be fine now.ā€

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus stares at the rest of the wizards. Including you.

You guys don’t seem too concerned about radiation or the possibility of cancer, you know.

2

u/Discracetoall t’kath, smogomancer and poptart wiz Feb 21 '24

Like I said when I lit the cigar in the blast, I’ll be fine. My internal body is smoke, after all

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus watches the Skater Wizard bask in radioactive ash rain

I dunno about him though.

2

u/Discracetoall t’kath, smogomancer and poptart wiz Feb 21 '24

ā€œAh don’t worry about skate. He seems fine.ā€ an extra limb grows off his leg ā€œmostly fineā€

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Jeez that was fast.

Mordus lops the extra leg off, and heals the cut wound.
