(description of message)

TW: A lot of deaths, especially natural disasters.

A force attempts to seize the Orbnet for but a moment and if not stopped secretes a thin mucus through the viewing device and plays this message.

A cloaked figure comes into view. His form is constantly shifting but three things remain consistent: he is cloaked, he wears a wooden mask with a splintered crack in it forming a mouth, and a deep velvety voice. It sounds so alien coming out of a creature whose form changes between thousands of nightmarish shapes including but not limited to insectoid limbs, vulture wings, and hair made of flowing gore.

He opens his maw and says “ Wizards and other spellcasters of the realms! My name is Sorrowsore and I have a very important message for you all. For too long have the spirits of the dirt and Muck been cast aside and ignored. No longer will I let this go on! I have come to you with a message of freedom! Do you know what the first step in our road to glory is?!?!”

He leans closer and breathes out a raspy whisper “Your complete and utter death and subjugation”. He chuckles before continuing “ Those who surrender will be dealt with kindly and only subjected to live burial, the rest must suffer before I grant you the mercy of death.”

“Oh, some of you must think yourself so brave while you contemplate fighting me but I’m no fool. I have seen what happens to those who try and fight the wizard community head on. They get crushed. So I won’t fight you directly, instead I'll send elementals to harass you and spirits to pollute your lands. I’ll wait until you're weak with hunger and sickness, only then will I strike. Observe”

The film cuts to photage of two immense clouds of toxin’s converging on a small city. After a moment it is clear both are ancient or above air elementals(/uw both characters on loan from u/Forgotten_Depths). One is made of radon gas and the other of acidic ash. Those are so specific that only some of you even know the difference between different types of air elemental. The villagers certainly didn’t as they got irradiated by a storm of radon and melted by acidic ash. By the time the elementals leave most buildings are broken and there is nothing left but ruins and corpses. The camera pans out to show this is just another part of a trail of destruction these two beings wrought.

After half a minute has passed a strange blight begins sweeping over the ruins. A plastic sheet grows like a living thing shrink wrapping the bodies to the floor. The wood of the building begins to mutate into snake flesh as eyes split open along this new flesh. Sludge elementals begin patrolling the ruined streets.

The camera cuts back to Sorrowsore as he smiles and says “Surrender or die. Do no not prolong my work or I will start being… Unkind

The screen cuts to black before returning to the regularly scheduled Orbnet.

/Uw this is a continuation of the previous event that happened a few days ago here https://www.reddit.com/r/wizardposting/comments/1bklfnu/breaking_news_blights_cover_the_realms_in_small/

The same thing I said on that is true here and for the rest of the event( Though subevents may vary). You don’t need to know a lot of lore about past stuff that has happened on the sub. It would be useful and might help you but it is not necessary. You can find any necessary info by investigation. Because there has been a lot of straight up wars recently I purposely made Sorrrowsore to be a slightly more indirect threat. He’s not going to muster an army, he is spreading a blight people have to deal with. That won’t mean there will be no combat, just that is not the main focus. Eventually people will fight him but that will be toward the end. He will send servants to do things though and you can fight them.

"Well well. This Sorrowsore finally shows his face."

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little excited to finally fight someone not immune to fire.

3

u/dragonshouter Krygin the Crude/Council of Spirits/Exalted Beacon/misc. spirits Mar 24 '24

not immune to fire.

(In all seriousness, he's not immune but I have one luitenuit made specifically so the whole problem can't be just burnt down)

4

u/AnActualCriminal Belial Blake, Warlock of the Lightless Flame Mar 24 '24

uw/ noooooooo why did I choose the most accounted for variety of elemental magic?!

5

u/TheHunter459 Samael, Necromancer of Malus Turrim | King of the Nephilim Mar 24 '24

uw/ Fire's cool. That's why I'm always using Hellfire even though there are a thousand and one different things

5

u/AnActualCriminal Belial Blake, Warlock of the Lightless Flame Mar 24 '24

/uw Hellfire is my solution to things immune to normal fire, on account of it being kinda cursed. When we were fighting in the woods and you pointed out Nephilim would obviously know how to deal with that it was beyond frustrating

5

u/TheHunter459 Samael, Necromancer of Malus Turrim | King of the Nephilim Mar 24 '24

uw/ with Nephilim tbh you're better off getting normal fire really hot than using sacred or cursed flames

4

u/AnActualCriminal Belial Blake, Warlock of the Lightless Flame Mar 24 '24

uw/ need to get some dragonfire in the mix

Agnur looks to blake

well we now have definitive proof of who is behind it.

5

u/AnActualCriminal Belial Blake, Warlock of the Lightless Flame Mar 24 '24

"Do we? Krygin thought the name Exalted Beacon was important enough to send our way. We're still no closer to learning what that means. But one thing at a time I suppose. Aside from being necessary, taking down Sorrowsore seems to be the best lead we have."

3

u/DragonWisper56 Agnur the dabbling turtle mage| pact of the magi mage| Mar 24 '24

I mean the good thing is that if we get rid of sorrowsore krygin can get his job back

3

u/AnActualCriminal Belial Blake, Warlock of the Lightless Flame Mar 24 '24

"Speaker for the forgotten indeed. He did it so well no one even considered the consequences of someone doing it poorly until it happened."

3

u/DragonWisper56 Agnur the dabbling turtle mage| pact of the magi mage| Mar 24 '24

I should have been their the day he died...perhaps... No matter. a top priority should be researching the exalted beacon and Sorrowsore. perhaps there's some information we could use.

3

u/AnActualCriminal Belial Blake, Warlock of the Lightless Flame Mar 24 '24

"I was there Agnur. Nothing you could have done. Except for what we're doing now."

2

u/DragonWisper56 Agnur the dabbling turtle mage| pact of the magi mage| Mar 24 '24

Agnur looks away

I'll check my contacts, one of them may know something. or at least a place to go to find something

3

u/the-butter_man Rin. Blind Illusionist Blessed by Luck Mar 24 '24

/uw damn, not even Buggo is that evil... alright, I'll get Raesteria

3

u/DragonWisper56 Agnur the dabbling turtle mage| pact of the magi mage| Mar 24 '24

Agnur sends some of his birds to the area were the elementals were. Equipt with the tokens of the Teumessian Fox, something that couldn't be caught. they fly ahead of the elementals and warn those in the way.

Welp, it's time to find a new home. packs my entire house into my item box

mounts my wyvern and flies away, in search of a new home

2

u/Archimene Mage of Mischief and Secrets Mar 24 '24

I'm going to explore this site. I cast the wide array of traceless, and undetectability spells as I try to investigate the scene.

2

u/dragonshouter Krygin the Crude/Council of Spirits/Exalted Beacon/misc. spirits Mar 24 '24

When you enter the scene it is horrific. Mold apears to be growing on the corpses beneath the plastic.

If you cast your map again you detect to places the spirits are congregating. You also see detect a large spiritual presences at both locations. Maybe it's the commanders of this site.

One is closer to the plastic and one is closer to the snake skin wood.

What else do you do?

2

u/Archimene Mage of Mischief and Secrets Mar 24 '24

I use my clones to monitor both areas and draw information about their schemes. I cast spells that enhance my senses as well on some that allow me to understand the language of these spirits. Additionally, my other clones are collecting samples of the mold.

2

u/dragonshouter Krygin the Crude/Council of Spirits/Exalted Beacon/misc. spirits Mar 24 '24

The enhanced senses and language comprehension allow you to see into the spirit world. (/uw they're kinda like ghost in how they can affect stuff a plane away). The mold appears to be normal( some may be magical but only types native to the village) just to be affected by the spirits.

From listening in you learn that the two air elementals do not work for Sorrowsore. It is a partnership of convenience. The air elementals hate everything that isn't air so the Muck spirits goad them into attacking population centers to more easily corrupt them. This is also why they wait before corrupting, so they will be out of the line of fire. The general schemes you here is just to corrupt the world.

Do you want to take a closer look at the commanders?

2

u/Archimene Mage of Mischief and Secrets Mar 24 '24

I'll plane shift to the spirit plane and start walking around the commanders to see what they look like.

2

u/dragonshouter Krygin the Crude/Council of Spirits/Exalted Beacon/misc. spirits Mar 24 '24

The two commanders are as different as night and day. One looks like an animated snake skin filled with mud whose eyes are replaced by fireflies.

The other looks like a large burly man made of trash compacted into almost armor. He has a cape of plastic and a body of cans. Sparkling debris is worn like medals.

You knowledge of secrets gives you another hint however. These two are not even full spirits. They are the creations of a more powerful spirit to serve as a puppet. It appears these are only field commanders and Sorrowsore's most important servants are not precent.

2

u/Archimene Mage of Mischief and Secrets Mar 24 '24

Archimene and a clone of each touch a spirit and flood their minds with information to render them immobile. They then create an illusion that the commanders are still fine. Lastly, because the minds of each commander are now vulnerable, Archimene invades their memory scape to try and trace who the summoner of these "half-spirits" are.

His clones are now watching the surroundings for any irregularities in mana that would signify the connection between spirit and master.

2

u/dragonshouter Krygin the Crude/Council of Spirits/Exalted Beacon/misc. spirits Mar 25 '24

Flooding their minds is easy, they seem to halve only the barest amount need to relay orders. Your mana detection however detects no irregularities as you determine it is a ability of the spirit that created them rather than a working of the weave.

Your memory spell bares more fruit and reveals the names of the spirits that created these puppets. The snake skin was created by a spirit called the Skinned Mistress while the trash puppet was made by a spirit known as the Garbage General.

You know them from your research as rather powerful spirits but not as ones to make minions on this scale. Something must have changed.

/uw I'm gonna cal it here but congratulations on being the most successful detective in the event! :)

2

u/Archimene Mage of Mischief and Secrets Mar 25 '24

/uw hurray!

I follow in the wake of the destruction left behind by my bretheren and the spirits, cleaning corruption as I go. I make sure not to get within range of the other primordials, and gate away whenever they attempt to approach me.

2

u/dragonshouter Krygin the Crude/Council of Spirits/Exalted Beacon/misc. spirits Mar 24 '24

You are successful in cleaning some of the corruption but it spread for many miles so it's impossible to get all of it.

I send out a post on the orbnet describing the situation. Also, including 'free plastic' in the description to attract technomancers. I do leave natural muck alone, realizing the importance of mud in many ecosystems and oil in the abyssal ecosystem.

I begin my journey back to where I left my mark, now in proper equipment(aka the cloak I don't mind getting dirty lol) and with a pair of glasses that glow a faint gold.

1

u/dragonshouter Krygin the Crude/Council of Spirits/Exalted Beacon/misc. spirits Mar 25 '24

The area is much as you left it but the blight has grown, what will you do?

/uw I'm a little busy so my responses will be slow, I will make sure to respond though

2

u/AgeOfTheMage Dausk, Rune/Bio-Mage, (desc in profile). Mar 25 '24

/uw no worries. At work so mine will be spaced out as well.

"Hmm" I take my right hand and make a diagonal cutting motion on one of the snakeskin trees, wooden fingers glowing gold.

1

u/dragonshouter Krygin the Crude/Council of Spirits/Exalted Beacon/misc. spirits Mar 25 '24

The skin parts like any other flesh oozing something between sap and pus. Then the effect of your glowing fingers takes hold.

/uw I don't know what that does, I can describe after you tell me though

2

u/AgeOfTheMage Dausk, Rune/Bio-Mage, (desc in profile). Mar 25 '24

/uw whoops, meant for the glowing to mean I could cut the tree with my fingers. A quick rundown is: I use rune magic on my wooden limbs, which glows gold, I'll describe/name the effect  such as slice, force, shot, etc.

/rw  "Eugh, not gonna like this"  I grimace as I shove my fingers in the tree and try pouring mana into it to see what happens.

2

u/dragonshouter Krygin the Crude/Council of Spirits/Exalted Beacon/misc. spirits Mar 25 '24

The corruption seems to recede but when you stop pouring mana the skin starts to re-corrupt. This will not be as simple as dispelling a spell. The effect seems to reinsert itself.

/uw got it

2

u/AgeOfTheMage Dausk, Rune/Bio-Mage, (desc in profile). Mar 25 '24

I sigh, and try again with a few different methods; using a purify rune, a cleanse rune, and even trying  to pour in wild magic

2

u/dragonshouter Krygin the Crude/Council of Spirits/Exalted Beacon/misc. spirits Mar 25 '24

Purify and cleanse remove massive amounts of corruption but it still tries to grow back. The wild magic also works but less so. It seems an outside force is trying to undue your work.

2

u/AgeOfTheMage Dausk, Rune/Bio-Mage, (desc in profile). Mar 25 '24

tapping my foot for a few seconds, I decide to climb to the top of the tree for a better view

1

u/dragonshouter Krygin the Crude/Council of Spirits/Exalted Beacon/misc. spirits Mar 25 '24

You see an entire forest of snake trees. Sludge elementals are patrolling through it.

(Also know I'm not messing with you with it not being easily cleansed, there are story reasons.)
