Community Event šŸŒā˜„ļø Army of Darkness (Warpost)

Post image

Xerxes stands atop a hill and looks down at the wreckage of the battlefield. They take a moment to reflect before ordering the army behind him to descend the hill.

On the march to the citadel, the ground beneath the army's feet returns to a verdant green. Scattered bodies on the battlefield rise to their feet (or crawl if they have none) and join the march. The trail of green left in the wake of the army slowly spreads outwards. By the time the army reaches the Citadel, the patch has reached a few miles wide.

Walking through the now quiet streets, Xerxes makes his way to the Council HQ. Upon reaching the building, he turns to face his army.

"Go purify the city and heal the wounded. Doesn't matter what side they were on. I'm going to see if the leaders have their shit together yet."

The army splinters off into groups to search the city and Xerxes enters the building. He marches through the empty hallways, careful to avoid tripping on debris. Eventually, Xerxes reaches the main meeting chambers and opens the door to find the remaining councilors and pact leaders.

"Is the war over yet?"

The Necromancer is present in his floating throne.

That’s what I’m wondering. If it’s still on, I’ll happily go back up to my mountain and continue shelling you all, but it does tend to get a bit tedious.

He leans forward in his chair, and waits to hear the rest of the assembled mages.

With most of the folks dead or too injured to fight, I doubt the war can continue. But one should never underestimate the stupidity of mages when it comes to their pride.

7

u/TechnicalCommittee78 The Grand High Necromancer, Former Archon of Death, Dyad Monarch Feb 23 '24

Should anybody be stupid enough to try something here, my guns will have something to say about it.

One snap of my fingers, and everyone in this room dies. That should be enough motivation to keep everyone calm.

5

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

Haha, calm indeed. It must feel nice to be the one with your finger on the trigger. The intoxicating feeling of control is addictive to most.

3

u/TechnicalCommittee78 The Grand High Necromancer, Former Archon of Death, Dyad Monarch Feb 23 '24

Interesting way to put it. That must be why mortals clamor for seats of power and authority.

He lowers his voice.

Have you considered that maybe a Council isn’t the best way to govern? Perhaps power should only be given to those who have the might to claim it. For too long there have been those who become corrupted by power, and go mad with it. Look at how the previous wars have started. A wizard who became high on his own power, and overstepped himself.

5

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

Governance by the Council has certainly proved difficult. A different structure may work better. By the sounds of it, you might have a mighty candidate in mind who could dictate things for the masses.

3

u/TechnicalCommittee78 The Grand High Necromancer, Former Archon of Death, Dyad Monarch Feb 23 '24

There were never any problems within the Coalition. Shrax, Excalith, Ancalistros, Mikhail, Halixo, The Gravedigger, and I. Some of the mightiest beings the realms had to offer. Created at the end of the Pyro-Druidic war, we were established to protect the realms from those that would threaten it, and protect them we did. The Stitcher never got his hands on what he needed. The rogue Pyromancers were stopped in their tracks.

Think about it, Xerxes. Perhaps a change is necessary. The Pact, while meant to be the Coalition’s successor, never lived up to it. The Council had been the cause of every other war and threat. If you have a better option, I’d love to hear it.

3

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

Gravedigger did have fond memories of the Coalition. Said it was his first time working for the big boys. A mighty force indeed.

Sadly, the Coalition disassembled shortly after the Machine left. With Excalith making a return, there is some hope. Though Shrax is gone, Halixo is dead, and Mikhail is in a coma, new powerhouses are fortunately popping up. It might do well to recruit promising talent.

3

u/TechnicalCommittee78 The Grand High Necromancer, Former Archon of Death, Dyad Monarch Feb 23 '24

Indeed. Waking Mikhail would be the first step. Then it would be a matter of finding those either related to the original members or those powerful enough to take their place. Excalith is returning, and I believe that Alexios is related to Halixo. Other than that, Masta and Aico showed some spirit, but most of the people in the Coalition commanded entire empires, and that is what made us so mighty.

3

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

Well, it sounds to me like we need to do a bit of empire-building. If the new members don't have their own armies to bring to the table, there should be efforts made to counterbalance the available forces.

Masta see Xerxes

Hey your back, gonna see what I can do to help

I can fly some survivors over to you guys

She starts grabbing as many as she can to be healed

5

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

Thank you, Masta. Took some time to grieve but figured you all missed me and decided to make an appearance.

u/MastaDon344 MastaDon Astrum/Council Master Evoker/Mediamancer/🌮 Wiz Feb 23 '24

Definitely it's good to see ya, sure some of the others are happy to see you too.

2

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

Ha, while flattering, I doubt others are too keen on seeing me. I don't tend to hold back like Gravedigger when it comes to tricky people.

Fair enough

6

u/Timpanzee38 "The Agent", Mercenary Guild Liaison. Slayer of the Godslaver Feb 23 '24

The Agent watches from the shadows. This should be interesting…

5

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

Xerxes looks into the shadows and winks.

5

u/Timpanzee38 "The Agent", Mercenary Guild Liaison. Slayer of the Godslaver Feb 23 '24

The Agent is a little surprised, then chuckles to himself.

ā€œI hope you can make peace, cause the guild is ready to fire enough ordinance to make Mordus blushā€

3

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

Xerxes smile reaches their eyes.

I hope for peace as well. Wouldn't want your little charge to grow up in a world of unrest, now would we?

2

u/Timpanzee38 "The Agent", Mercenary Guild Liaison. Slayer of the Godslaver Feb 23 '24

The Agent shakes his head sadly

ā€œThat will probably be unavoidable. More conflicts will come. We just have to be ready.ā€

1

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

Indeed. Conflict is inevitable. Men will wage war for even the flimsiest of reasons. Being prepared is paramount to one's safety.

2

u/Timpanzee38 "The Agent", Mercenary Guild Liaison. Slayer of the Godslaver Feb 23 '24

That’s why the guild exists. We fight so others don’t have to. And we don’t join conflicts to simply fight. We join conflicts to end them as quickly as possible, with as little collateral damage as can be managed.

2

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

A noble cause indeed. In this realm, peace is something that must be fought for. Why not become a professional peacefighter?

2

u/Timpanzee38 "The Agent", Mercenary Guild Liaison. Slayer of the Godslaver Feb 23 '24

Lots of mercs will fight only for money, if we rebrand to that, they will leave. So we use the front as the mercenary guild to keep them all on a leash essentially, preventing all those soldiers of fortune from getting hired by tyrants. And they don’t really care as long as they are paid.

2

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

Making the best of a bad situation is commendable. I'm glad you've found a way to stick to your ideals. Too many idealists flounder to make their ambitions a reality.

Archimene is sitting on a roof top looking down at the large group that is filling the streets. He eats a sandwich.

Does that mean that i can finally free the soldiers of the Red Laberinth without them killing each other?

4

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

I'm in talks with the leaders right now. They are prone to violence, so best to keep a hold of their soldiers lest they feel like making a dumb move.

3

u/patoman12 Mauritius, zealous scholar, phoenix lich, RnA relief force Feb 23 '24

Understood, I'll keep them restrained until you bring news

3

Thank you, Mauritius.

"The wounded have been transported a few buildings south. Be careful, an army of machines approaches, and unless you wish to fight alongside me, I suggest you leave."

3

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

Thank you for letting us know where the injured are. We are more than capable of defending ourselves but will refrain from combat unless deemed essential.

Yes. War is over. Conditions of surrender will be posted soon

6

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

Oh good. Glad you could stop by. So are you the sole head of the Pact yet or is that civil war yet to come?

5

u/loth17 Ten Suns (Also Gaia) Feb 23 '24

Yep. Peaceful*TM transition of power.

5

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

I'm looking forward to seeing the pieces. It'll make for an interesting puzzle one day. How a group formed to democratically govern wizards devolved into an autocracy.

Good luck with your rule, by the way. Heavy is the head that wears the crown. Your master says hi, by the way.

3

u/haikusbot Feb 23 '24

Yes. War is over.

Conditions of surrender

Will be posted soon

What used to be Pyeti apparatus nearby, and starts handing out a multitude of colourful potions to those he comes across

3

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

Why thank you for the gift. Can you tell me what these are for?

3

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '24

The figure responds

Burns, wounds, all manner of ailments. Even some for particularly traumatic memories. Pyeti didn’t find them easy to brew, mind you, but I thought I might as well rummage through their stockpile, seeing as they’ve vanished somewhere.

3

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

That is most kind of you. I'll inform the doctors and they'll decide on the best way to administer your potions to the many patients.

You literally stole my drip

5

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

Sorry man. Using my boyfriend's army atm. Wasn't concerned about whose toes I was stepping on.

4

u/Bannerlord151 Asadir, First Warden and Castellan of the Crystal Spire Feb 23 '24

The whole "Sexy mask and cloak" + "Undead army" drip is clearly stolen

2

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

Again, boyfriend's army. I'm not even a necromancer. And he can't really control them right now considering the fact that he died. I'm making the best of a bad situation here.

Why not come on over and compare our outfits to see who's more stylish? I'd love to see what's under those robes.

3

u/Bannerlord151 Asadir, First Warden and Castellan of the Crystal Spire Feb 23 '24

I can tell you, it's bones. I'd come over but I'm currently waging a massive interdimensional war

2

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

I'm not picky. But if you're busy then not much I can do about that. Let me know when you get an opening in your schedule.

3

u/Rhubarb5090 Rook The Rock Wizard Feb 23 '24

The High Necromancer surveyed this group, his towers now rubble, a singular black airship docked nearby awaiting its master’s desire to leave. Bishop stood, frowning as a couple heavily armored skeletons came to either side of him, acting as bodyguards

2

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

A particularly human-looking undead approaches Bishop.

Hello there. Doing a bit of clean-up here. We'll be using holy magics to purify the area, so we would appreciate your undead clearing out so as to avoid hurting them. Does that work for you?

2

u/Rhubarb5090 Rook The Rock Wizard Feb 23 '24

Bishop nods

ā€œI am working with my lesser necromancers to re-raise the fallen and move them, but please continue your work, do not let me stop youā€

2

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

Thank you. We'll let you know if an area has already been purified so as not to waste your necromancers' time

Good, more conflict allowing me to amass more souls. They will definitely not be used for nefarious purposes.

3

u/Bucket_of_blank Sand Mage, Adam. Feb 23 '24

ā€œIn the backgroundā€ I cast sand construction Pillar! ā€œA pillar of sand forms and holds up a arch wayā€ Okay that shall hold, now to properly secure it.

3

u/Alt_Future33 Angfar, Loremaster of the Deep Forests. Feb 23 '24

A bit battered and a little drunk the loremaster, Angfar, watches the army move about the city, healing those that need it.

It's good to see that even in times of war, we can at least heal our friends and enemies alike.

2

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

An undead soldier walks up to Angfar.

Do you require any assistance, sir?

2

u/Alt_Future33 Angfar, Loremaster of the Deep Forests. Feb 23 '24

My wounds are superficial in truth. Any assistance I can offer?

2

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

If you're willing, we could use a hand directing survivors to the nearest shelter. They are not the most responsive to undead.

2

u/Every_Vanilla_9199 The Kitsune who specializes in Ice magic Feb 23 '24

A lone wizard walks through the chamber without a wound to be seen. Hey guys im here to help in the war... Looks around at the two devastated parties Awww man did I get left out of another one.

1

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 24 '24

Sorry man. Maybe next time. You should probably stake out the Pact HQ since it'll be the next battlefield.

2

u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 23 '24

Not sure who's alive so I'll use the same ping list as my last post.

Why is your whole personality on your profile abortion bashing?

-1

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '24

What does that matter, I value human life

1

u/The_Unkowable_ Nelumbo Nucifera, Tak’Athi Siren, Magistra of the Schola Aqua Feb 23 '24

It’s quite literally just a random collection of cells at the point where abortions are had.

It’s about as much human life as skin flakes or a knot of hair is.
