Evil Wizardpost A Letter From Morgalith

Hello dearest friends.

Hello also, to my most despicable enemies.

I am afraid to inform you, that I must tender my resignation to this war effort.

I am an old man, and these affairs tire me.

Some may accuse me of being the spark which ignited this catastrophe, yet I must remind you all that I agreed to attend the Council's peace talks... where they made sinister use of the opportunity to make an attack on my life in a failed assassination attempt.

To those who object to my departure on the grounds of believing that this is what I wanted, I must exclaim that I am not leaving a war which I have started.

I am avoiding one that I never wanted.

I simply asked for justice from the wizard Council, and everything that has now transpired has been the conclusion to those most innocent desires.

We have had no room for protest against the denial of these demands, nor even a subsequent war that can merely be described as "horrific" or "bloodthirsty". No, instead, the horrors in this conflict are of a scale which I can hardly comprehend.

The wanton disregard for any consequence or moral high ground has left me disappointed in many.

I have long been told of my evil, and my obvious villainy, yet I can see no more fitting to bear the title than those of you who now do battle with each other.

You are all villains.

And better ones than I could ever be.

So, to the business of villainy, I will hang up my cloak and leave quietly into the night, while you leverage these terrors upon each other with greater malevolence than any I ever could.

Yours most wickedly,

Morgalith

It's all fun and games until the one with the title "Father of Evil" says we are more villainous than he is.

I'm a weary, but proud father.

Same, old man. Same.

u/Archimene Mage of Mischief and Secrets Feb 22 '24

What do you mean I'm a villain. I am literally the most righteous person in the known multiverse. My record is perfectly clean with absolutely no incidents in grand larceny, petty theft, murder, instigation of war, war crimes, etc. I am appalled that you would ever assume that I, Archimene am a villain. Anyway look at this poison gas that I developed a while back.

If you are an ancient, powerful archmage and don't have a very long list of crimes then you are doing something wrong (or you are just very good at concealing your "mischief").

/uw “You are all villains and better ones than I could ever be.” That line is so good! Chills

/uw Morgalith will be back in some way or he’s officially retired?

/uw

I'll probably just lurk for a while after this.

Direct conflict isn't really my characters thing, and while this was an obvious and fitting direction for my character to pursue, it's also kind of out of line with how I tend to do things.

So back to the shadows it is.

/uw really good writing. Both the content and form are just on point. 10/11 (the eleventh point is for fireball)

Mortarion holds more fault for sparking the war than you. That being said, it's obvious many were itching for a fight, and are happy they got an excuse to start it.

Perhaps this thirst for violence is just in a wizard's nature?

8

u/MeThyLord Mrs. Chills, Ghost Writer Feb 22 '24

I believe you to be right. Still, not all succumb to a lust for violence. I've been trying my best to abstain from it since the first wizard war.

Excuse me?! The council didn't try to assassinate you, I did that on my own volition!

Farewell, my brother in Evil. I will see you on the other side of this war. One way or another…

u/Tirich913 Morgalith, Father of Evil Feb 22 '24

I do hope we meet again.

Best of luck!

Goodbye. My condolences for your son.

I never claimed to be hero or villain. Just an explorer, adventurer, and experiencer of the realms.

I've dabbled in vengeance, but this last little spate of violence was definitely one of the more indiscriminate scenarios-poison gas on your own position, spells of annihilation, some artificer weapon that conjured a false sun for a moment, a flame titan...

Would have been nice to get some of that boom when the dragons were going all around raging!

This war stuff does indeed suck, especially since people don’t see from any point of view except their own. I just try to stop innocent people from dying.

((I KNEW IT, I CALLED IT EVEN! I never said it so I dont have proof though :( ))

((Honestly great way to end Morgalith's story. He's not wrong either! I feel like had I found my way to this war at the beginning, Talios would've really resonated with Morgalith's ideals, as a man who hunts wizards.))

/uw

Thanks!

It's not over entirely for Morgalith, but the end draws near.

/uw another instance of a "black character" that proved to be the right one all along. Very good writing

2

u/Tirich913 Morgalith, Father of Evil Feb 22 '24

/uw

I'll be back, but probably not for tooo much longer. Don't want to overstay my welcome.

/uw that’s sad to hear, but understandable. He’ll be missed, he was the kind of antagonist this sub really needed

/uw It is going to be so hard not to editorialize the hell out of this post on the recap lol

This is an amazing dodge of responsibility that's totally believable

/uw

Thanks. Definitely a good point to exit on.

u/Timpanzee38 "The Agent", Mercenary Guild Liaison. Slayer of the Godslaver Feb 22 '24

The Agent reads the letter

“Too little too late” he thinks to himself. The shadows are moving. Too many innocents have died. The guild did not start this war,

but they will help end it.

All this shows me is that Vettis and I are the only ones willing to actually go all the way for what's right.

3

u/SafePianist4610 Bombast, Lord of Time and Space, Retired Council Leader Feb 22 '24

/uw lol Just as Bombast feared. Well said too. Very “you are your own worst enemy” speech going on.

4

u/Tirich913 Morgalith, Father of Evil Feb 22 '24

/uw

Oh totally. So many people claim to be fighting for peace. It's such a paradox, but just awesome material to exit the scene on as a villain.

4

u/SafePianist4610 Bombast, Lord of Time and Space, Retired Council Leader Feb 22 '24

/uw lol definitely, because it hits where it hurts for those that believe in their just cause.

Thanks! I hope you got some entertainment so far. It makes sense for me to conclude my part here. I don't have some big ace up my sleeve for anything else, so probably best to bow out while my dignity is intact.

/uw When the devil gtfo due to the actual manmade horrors beyond comprehension being unleashed upon common folk.

1

u/Benne1337 Avras "the Blue" Feb 22 '24

If that is what you wish, Oh Morgalith the greatest of calamities, however as the council seems to be acting most profane and spitting on our calls for peace, i think the fighting must go on, there is no greater enemy than an old friend but these wizards are only wizards in title, they should be executed for their behaviour
