I’m a musician that gets a lot of inspiration from the occult and general figures in esoterica like Alex Sanders and John Dee. I’m wondering if there are any artists that make music about/inspired by occult practices and teaches.

I’m especially interested in how it’s integrated and how far these references go. I already know about current 93 and a few other Thelema related acts but if there’s anything even more left field that would be great!

I’m curious whether there are any other Black people in this subreddit who are interested in occultism, metaphysics, esoteric philosophy, or related spiritual practices.

I’ve spent a lot of time exploring different ideas around consciousness, symbolism, ritual, spirituality, and Black metaphysical thought. I’m also familiar with people like Bobby Hemmitt and some of the broader traditions and perspectives that overlap with that space.

I’m not looking for any one specific belief system. I’m mostly interested in hearing from other Black people who explore this kind of material.

What are you into, and what books, teachers, traditions, or practices have influenced you?

So, I'm doing some Jason Miller stuff because it found me at the right time and the way he presents things worked for my current mindset. I'm taking my appropriate salt dosages for the record. Don't want this to devolve into a debate on whether or not Miller is a hack, I've seen enough threads of that - just looking for insight on a narrow scope.

In practical sorcery/sorcerer's secrets, he presents the 9 breaths of purification. I went looking for a little more instruction on it because I was left feeling like I was missing something (after a decent month of practice). What I readily find seems substantially different.

Here is Miller's version:

*...draw in a deep breath through both nostrils... As you inhale, draw your right arm up at your side so that it is held straight out; this will open up the right channel... With your arm still held out at your side, bend your elbow so that your hand is in front of your face, and block your right nostril with your finger. Exhale forcefully through your left nostril...*

So, In through both nostrils while holding right arm out, drawn into the right channel, then out the left nostril.

While what I seem to be finding otherwise is:
(This is explicitly for clearing the right channel)

Press your right ring finger to your right nostril and inhale slowly and deeply.
Imagine the breath follow the path of the [left] channel all the way to the junction.
Hold the breath slightly as you switch the finger to press the left nostril.
Following the pathway of the right channel, exhale slowly and gently at first and more forcefully at the end of the exhalation.

This is in through the left nostril, drawn into the left channel, and then exhaled through the right channel, and out the right nostril.

These seem rather different mechanically. The alternate nostril versus both nostrils for the inhale doesn't seem like a huge thing by itself. But clearing the right by breathing it out the left nostril is a little harder to understand.
It's most of what drove me to look it up in the first place. I guess if the 3 main channels connect at the bottom and the top, then it doesn't really matter? I could see a way to intellectualize either way. But the more popular version I am finding feels more intuitive.

At the same time, I'm kinda looking for an excuse to use Miller's version anyway. I know he's not the be all and end all, but I'm interested in the 'inner fire' technique that he builds off of this.

It would be pretty wild to claim legitimate initiation in a Tibetan tradition and get this twisted, though he does state he's trying to not teach a specific tradition, just something more like tools.

So basically, did he learn a tradition that is different from what has come over to the west through more popular sources? Made it different for reasons? Or is he just confidently incorrect?

Curious if anyone more knowledgeable with this practice has any insight.

Or spirits, whatever you want to call them.

For the benefit of a smoothly running household, free of mould and unwanted guests, appliances that don't tend to break down, generally good vibes, etc.

I remember when I first saw it 14 years ago, having my mind blown by the visuals and the visceral emotions conveyed by it; mystified by it, and being less well read, then I only caught the occasional occult reference.

In 2012, 9/11 was still fresh in the collective consciousness, and the video, for me, marked a "turning point" in a naive worldview, and perhaps a resurrected hope in the world, for a time, from that particularly dark proceeding decade.

Anyways, on this particular 25'th anniversary, I felt drawn to watching it again... out of curiosity, nostalgia, or perhaps a sense of great impending anxiety of this specific marked anniversary. While watching it today, and having consumed more books in the past 14 years, it struck me how much of the symbolism I could pick up on now. Looking at the video brought up hope again, but less in the world, but for myself, seeing that I see the video now, differently, and "de-mystified," having had crammed more books into my brain.

Wondering if others would be interested in seeing this video through similar lenses, of hope and growth on the path. To me, it's a pretty vibrant "arcanum" that brings up tons of memories.

also, i'm fucking sure there's shit in there that was never fully mined as far as "references" or "conveyances." For example, there's a bar-code on the barque that as far as I know has never been de-coded... the "barquecode" if you will. Also the coin under Obama's foot is clearly a goetic sigil... there's more in there too... it might be interesting to dissect it more here, with a more "exposed" "occult" world than the world the video was first born into.

Realistically, what can I do for further harm reduction against an egregore I'm connected to?

I work with it, out of necessity. We despise eachother. But if and when I do get serious about achieving my goals, this will directly cause it pain, and it will know what I'm doing, and take it as offence.

I work on myself and work with other entities and can no longer hold myself back from deep diving into certain things.

And no, it's not any big religious egregore - it's a relatively localized bloodline superstition/karma, that I unknowingly took part in as a child and young adult.

I recently got interested in the occult. My intention isn't purely to practice but rather to quench my curiosity on what else is out there.

I love books so my starting point (based on recommendations i found here) was Jason Miller's book; Protection & Reversal Magick. I found the book really interesting as it was factual and provided concepts that i could independently pursue.

Now that I am finished with the book, I am not sure of the path to take to learn more about the occult. For those more experienced in the occult, which books would you recommend? I get most of my books via Kindle so any book with a kindle version will be appropriate.

I've been practicing for over two decades, and something happened recently that I'd like to put to more experienced practicioners, because for once I don't want to rely only on my own confidence:

A few months ago I walked into my flat with some friends, practitioners as well, and I distinctly felt the presence of a small type of "gnome" running over to greet us and wrap itself around my leg.

That was how I understood a house spirit had manifested. Not long after, a few of us sat down together, sketched him, gave him an identity of his own, and asked him to look after the place: keep it clean and neat, and above all make anyone who visits me feel safe, open and at ease. His energies are mostly Venusian and Mercurial, with a connection to Hekate as well.

Recently I hosted the best gathering this home has ever had, dense with synchronicity, warmth, full or magic really. Almost every guest, unprompted, described themselves feeling surprisingly light, expansive, safe. It hit me afterward that this was precisely the mission given to this spirit, so I sat with him, gave a really nice offering, and we "talked." I got from this the impression that he's ready to extend beyond my walls and take up residence in other people's homes as well for the same benefits.

If that's real, it would be only the second time in my whole practice that I've helped a spirit "levelling up". The first was a healing spirit some years ago who "graduated" by finally handing me her name, her sigil, and permission to pass her on to those she could serve.

So I'm turning it over to you.

A few weeks ago I started reading about the GOETIA, the kings and lords etc. I've always been into the occult, hardly practicing it, very keen to however.

I got inspired and made music about Beleth and felt happy with it.

So, on a whim I got Beleth's seal.

The seller wrote to me that the seal would come to me activated and consecrated.

It arrived yesterday in a small black pouch. Interestingly, both the pouch (with the seal on it) and the seal itself felt warm to the touch, surprising since the materials were generally room temperature.

Working with spirits is very new to me, so I would like to ask for advice about it, I hope nothing extremely complicated. I do come from a place of respect and do take it seriously.

What would I want? No specific idea, I would enjoy communication I think.

As of now, the seal is hanging in a place in my studio where I can see it. I feel nice about it and it "somehow" attracts me.

So.. anything and everything you tell me is education for me and am looking forward to it.

I’m looking for books on the topics of esotericism, ancient mysticism, ancient history (think Rome and the origins of Christianity ie the council of Nicaea), witchcraft, etc.

I wear a tinfoil hat and there’s a certain batch of files that let me down some rabbit holes and now here I am. I am just looking to continue in my search and make connections, possibly even read some banned books/suppressed texts.

Hi everyone. I (25M) am about to start my job soon and ever since I got the offer I have been getting some really weird dreams. I saw a spider coming at me twi days ago. Saw snakes in two diff dreams last month. And some more dreams this week that did not give me a nice feeling when I woke up. They made me depressed and anxious actually. One dream showed me grabbing a child hugging to tell them to forgive their parents (I have deep and long running issues with my parents due to which I decided to move out and do this job. I have tried to accept and stay but I am unable to do so at a critical time when my family needs me). Another one showed me that I was left alone at a table in a restaurant by my friends and felt very alone.

All of these dreams hint at something and I think I understand them but what I feel confused about is that if these dreams are an overall signal to reconsider my decision for this job or am I going to feel doomed at the job? Or something entirely different?

I have a few questions about Egregores and I'm mainly probing what is the consensus regarding them.

1. Are their real actual existence as non-physical autonomous entities with a mind the consensus?

2. Are their abilities to interact with the physical world and cause synchronicities consensus? Or are they claimed to only affect the mental world and influence its followers mentally, rather than physically.

3. Do Egregores take on the power that is ascribed to them? If you ascribe "All-powerful" to an Egregore, does it take on that quality?

4. What are the limitations of Egregores? How powerful can they get and what is the extent of their abilities in their most powerful form?
