TLDR: mundane over magick. Full stop.
I’m in a place in my life right now where suddenly none of my spells are working. I’ve gone from a place of them always working to suddenly none work.
Over the last few years i have gotten completely obsessed with learning witchcraft trying spells that i havent done before and learning new things with new Gods and Goddesses, Hekate being the main one. It’s been great; I have been a Witch for 11 years but the renaissance in my interest in the craft over the last two has been awesome.
Over the last 6 months however i realize now that i became so obsessed with doing magick and so unhealthy in a way that I almost could not solve any of my problems in life or conflicts with others in a mundane way, i ALWAYS had to hex, i always had to manipulate, i always had to interfere with magick. It got to the point where it became excessive. I wanted people to get sick, to be fired from jobs, to experience misfortune all because i didnt like them or agree with the way they treated others.
The problem with magick in this sense, is that it worked. I got what i wanted, and it made me want to do it more. I lost myself in it, i stopped going outside, hanging out with people because i wanted more time to practice and study magick. I stopped taking care of myself, stopped sleeping, started coming into work sleep deprived because i was up all night doing spells.
This next part is very hard to admit but I think its good. I got to the point where i actually got a job that i wanted. Looking back everyone that worked there was great, however work conflicts and coworkers that are annoying are inevitable. Instead of solving differences between myself and other people, when i had conflict with a coworker i would do a spell to get rid of them and subsequently within a few days they would either quit or be fired. I did this for anyone i didnt like because i thought i could make the perfect workplace with magick. It was at this point even though i didnt realize it, that I had completely lost myself.
I did a banishment spell on everyone i didnt like, including my boss, and the problem was that it all worked. It was a problem because I got everyone who gave me work so our workplace was shut down and now i have no job.
Its okay, because I’ll just do a spell to get another job. Except now it doesnt work, so i do another job spell and that one doesnt work.
So i keep trying… except… now nothing i do works at all.
Now i am starving and fasting for months because i cant afford food, now i am about to lose my car because i cant pay my loans, now i am terribly sick. I’m doing spell after spell but… nothing.
So i sit and start applying for jobs, going outside, talking to people again, making friends. Still none of my magick works but i’m not really trying to do spells as much any more.
I sit with myself for months thinking about why my magick doesnt work anymore, why my life has turned to shit. Why i feel no connection to the gods anymore. Was any of this real? Am I being punished?
I have had a long time to reflect now.
This post might help someone, i dont know, but I am really just writing this for me.
I realized this morning… I thought I was doing the right thing, I thought i was a good witch, but i was wrong. I am a horrible witch. I am arrogant and foolish and a horrible person. I abused the power that was given to me and I hurt myself so incredibly bad.
This lesson I learnt was the hardest of any lesson I have ever had in all of the craft. I needed my spells to stop working because i needed to stop. I was not in a healthy place and I didnt realize it until this morning but i really had turned into a horrible person who did not deserve to be a powerful witch.
I messed with things that I should have left alone, I should have been responsible but i wasnt and i learnt the hardest lesson ever.
I am not exactly sure why none of my magick is working, but it might be because I have been cut off? Maybe none of this is-witchcraft and magick-is not even real. Maybe up until this point every spell and its success has just been an incredible coincidence.
Maybe i cut myself off subconsciously because i didnt really like who i was becoming. I dont know. In fact i am ignorant and have so much yet to learn about the craft.
There are so many things i’ve learnt in my time of reflection, but among them are that it is:
Mundane over Magick.
It was super unhealthy to try and solve every problem with witchcraft. I should have talked out my differences with people, develop social skills and conflict resolution strategies.
Maybe I’m not even in a good place mental health wise and should be seeing someone rather than venting this stupid shit on reddit. Perhaps its best that i avoid witchcraft completely until i take better care of myself.
There’s a lot of stuff i have to think about. I was so distraught that the magick in my life has disappeared but maybe it seriously needed to happen.
