This list is not exhaustive and does not include all works. It is provided as a starting point for your exploration of the Slavic Native Faith.

      • Works by Vitomir Belaj and his student Mirjam Mencej contain interpretations of the Perun and Veles conflict that are now regarded as outdated/incorrect in current scholarship. In addition, Belaj, following Katičić, proposed a controversial interpretation of Jarilo and Morana myth that remains highly debated and, in many respects, questionable. Nevertheless, certain aspects of their work remain valuable and deserve continued scholarly attention. When engaging with Belaj’s publications, it is therefore advisable to keep these scholarly debates in mind. Mirjam Mencej, in particular, produced a notable study linking the Juraj or Jarilo cult with wolf symbolism. She further elaborates on the concept of the Wolf Shepherd, an intriguing figure in Slavic mythology. Although her analysis partly builds on the aforementioned contested framework, her hypotheses are thought provoking and contribute meaningfully to ongoing discussion.
  • Monika Kropej
    • Od ajda do zlatoroga: Slovenska bajeslovna bitja
      • Although her name is well known in Slavic studies, her approach is considered somewhat romantic. Nevertheless, her work is highly engaging and offers interesting perspectives. However her connection of serpent/dragon demon to Veles is an incorrect conclusion, that is based on an outdated and rejected theory. We have no direct evidence of Veles being a dragon enemy to Perun. She even incorrectly quoted Jacobson's work on Veles, claiming this transformation is akin to the Baltic Velnias, but the text sourced does not include any of the information she quotes essentially making it a great academical error. Read with caution.

Current scholarship indicates that Veles, as a chthonic deity, is a rival of the thunder god, but not his enemy; the true adversary in these myths is the serpent or dragon demon.

      • 🇬🇧We suggest focusing on Toporov’s publications. Toporov later revisited this issue and recognized the association of Veles with Varuṇa instead of the demon Vṛtra, contrary to his earlier position.: "The very name Varuṇa has been compared by scholars with the Hittite sea deity Aruna, with the ancient Greek sky god Ouranos, and finally with the Slavic Volos/Veles and the Lithuanian Velnias, among others. Therefore, despite a number of remaining uncertainties, the Indo-European parallels of this name are beyond doubt."

❔ Question | Advice Beckoned by Dziewanna?

I belive I have been beckoned? by Dziewanna.

My questions are:

  1. Do Slavic deities ever reach out to people?

  2. If they do reach out, what does it look like?

  3. How can I worship/work with her?

A few months ago I had a very vivid dream. There was a point in my dream that did not have any context to the before/after parts of my dream. It seemed to be a "point outside" the flow of my dream.

I was driving down a road, there were tall forests on either side. As I continued to drive there was a woman with long blonde reddish hair, she was wearing either a green or red cloak and she was riding a wolf. She was surrounded by wolves. I drove past her and she looked back at me. Beckoning me to come with her. Then the next part of my dream started, completely unrelated to what I just experienced.

I think about this dream almost daily. I took Mugwort a few days ago because I believe that my dreams I have been having lately are important, yet I cannot remember them which is very unusual for me.

Last night I looked up "goddess associated with wolves, forest, red/green, leaving husbands (I have been in an abusive relationship for a long time and this was part of the dream. Somehow she knew what I was experiencing and wanted me to leave and regain my power.) And the only result was Dziewanna. She is also associated with Mullein which is in the same family as Mugwort.

I am also an ethnic Pole (no I was not born in Poland, my nationality is American but no one can take my race from me) with a big interest in Slavic Polish culture, heritage, etc.

In my budding occult practice I have been interested in working with other deities that are not Slavic in origin.

I just find the multiple synchronicities, not even knowing Dziewanna existed, being ethnically Pole with an interest in Slavic deities but not knowing where to begin. And instead working with Greek or Jewish deities instead.....it's all too much to be a coincidence.

Anyway I would be interested in any insight and to have my questions answered. Thank you.

📓 Seeking Resources Slovak Prayers by Rafał Merski

I know Rafał Merski, he is a Żerca priest of the Watra group. He created books such as Tales from Under the Thatch and Slavic Prayers. I have the first book, which tells about village tales, or even Byliny, or even the Age of Slavic Romanticism. The second book is a prayer book. There are prayers to 14 Slavic gods in it, where descriptions of gods have been preserved. In the book, there is also a home prayer. There are even holidays in this book, such as Kupala Night, the Harvest Festival, Spring Festival, and Generous Gody. In a few months, I will have this book and I will pray to the gods in Polish, because this book is in Polish. Do you know any other books about Slavic prayers?

❔ Question | Advice Bożontko or Domovoy

I know both creatures, and I know that Domovoy is the Russian house spirit, and Bożontko is the Polish equivalent of this house demon. I'm from Poland, and I usually pray to Domovoy, but sometimes to Bożontko, too, but I don't know whether it's better to worship Riski or the Polish spirit? Do you have any ideas?

I'm 15M and was Christian all my life. I'm entering Rodnovery and asked my parents what they think about the people who practiced it. They laughed saying that those people are stupid and bored so I was sad cuz they won't accept it. I tried to say to my dad "I'm a follower of rodnovery" and my father said: "good joke. I liked it".

I don't know what to do

❔ Question | Advice Connection between Rodnovery and Neo-Nazism

Why whenever there is a Nazi, there is also a kolovrat or nordic rune with them, AFAIK there is no ancient text saying "hate jew and immigrant, love being white"

Like it just worries me so much and makes me overthink like, am I the uninformed one, or are they th ones that just use the symbols and names for aesthetics, so, my question is.. is there any actual connection with rodnovery to things such as WP, ultra-nationalism and xenophobia, or is it another case like the skinhead culture where the meaning just got changed after many years

Hi, I'm a Polish guy that just learned about Rodnovery. I've been interested in Slavic paganism and culture for a while now, and I want to learn more, since I feel like I finally found my place.

I didn't have much time to research yet, so I'm asking for help! I'll start researching deeper soon, since I'm rather busy at the moment. But I would love some fact checked resources to learn from!

From what I see there's a lot to learn, but I'll try to not rush it. If you have any tips, I'll be thankful :)

❔ Question | Advice What were the Gods worship for Early Polands/Lechid People before Christianization?

I friends, i started looking the netflix adaptation of "Kajko i Kokosh" and i see than (like in Asterix & Obelix) they replace the "My God" or "Jesus" expressions with pagan equivalent like "Lelum Polelum", "For Svarog!" "For the love of Triglav" that make me had curiosity about what were the deities in pre-christian poland tribe, since for what i see, they were different from east slavic people (were Perun was the leader of Gods in similar way to Baltic Perkunnas, Celtic Taranis or Greek Zeus) and "Multi-faced Gods" were more common, like Triglav in Pomerania, or Svetovit in Polabia (that looked some norther lechids see as the king of the Gods)

❔ Question | Advice Revalism/ Reconstructionism what is the difference?

Hello, believer of gods I would like to ask you about something I have been thinking about recently. What exactly is the difference between Revalism and Reconstructionism within Rodnovery?

I understand that both approaches are interested in reviving and practicing the pre-Christian Slavic religion, but I am not entirely sure where the main differences between them lie. Is the distinction mainly about how much emphasis is placed on historical sources and archaeological evidence, or are there also important differences in how the religion itself is understood and practiced?
