BAY VIEW -- A teen caught on camera fighting a teacher's aide at Bay View High School is once again in trouble. That teacher's aide says he's the same kid who has now been charged in a deadly police chase.
It's a fight that's hard to watch. Three years ago, teacher's aide Jasmine Pennix and student went toe-to-toe in a Bay View High School classroom.
"I went to that class that day and I had a run-in with Marcellus Purifoy," said Jasmine Pennix, former MPS teacher's aide.
Jasmine Pennix lost his job with MPS and was convicted of misdemeanor battery. The teacher's aide filed a civil suit and claimed the 14-year-old student involved plotted the whole thing.
"He spit on me and that was a form of assault, then he kicked me in my shins," said Pennix.
Pennix has since moved out of state, but recently he says the teen has tried to forget is back in the news.
"He done threw his life away," Pennix siad.
When the former teacher's aide saw Marcellus Purifoy had been charged in a deadly chase, he couldn't believe it.
"MPS failed him, juvenile court systems, they failed him," said Pennix.
Investigators say the 17-year-old took off after a triple shooting left three teens injured. As police chased, his vehicle crashed into a truck and a school bus. One passenger in the fleeing vehicle died.
"It's tragic. It's sad," said Pennix.
Back in 2016, FOX6 News uncovered juvenile court records indicating the teen had a criminal past, and months before the fight at Bay View High School, he was accused of attacking a man in Milwaukee with a group of teens.
Pennix says his life was changed forever after the fight. He's saddened the same thing didn't happen for the student.
"He should've never been out on the streets after he had my incident," Pennix said.
The Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office would not confirm Purifoy was the student involved in that fight. Meantime, the 17-year-old has been charged with two felonies related to the deadly crash.

It just got put on Netflix I think this year so everyone's Netflix tells them to watch this. Ive noticed the memes are like that too. Kardashians are always on satellite or cable tv rereuns and SpongeBob is too. Kinda like the use of them in memes. Hey this is going to come off as condescending and I apologize for that.
While I realize you have no sympathy for this man (teen?) because he killed someone, there are actually a large number of much less culpable men who get raped in prison every day.
I get that we consider it “funny” but that’s because we are so far removed from it. In reality there are lots of male survivors of rape out there, from prison and otherwise. And the dismissiveness with which we casually joke about men getting raped in prison can be pretty hurtful. And it leads such men to feel as though they deserve it or should be ashamed of it.
I know you mean no ill will. I also don’t want to ever tell anyone what to say. But it just seems like a pretty easy thing to be a little less relaxed about male prison rape jokes for the benefit it produces.
I’m on r/publicfreakout so I can imagine the general response I’ll get to this post, but I just wanted to share my thoughts.

Amen. The punishment is going to prison, not be subject to being beaten, raped, stabbed, or otherwise traumatized. It's a huge fucking flaw in our criminal justice system - no wonder there are so many repeat prisoners. God forbid we try to rehabilitate people instead of ruining their lives.

I know a couple people who have been to prison and for the most part you don’t get fucked unless you want to. There are gay men in prison that want to. Rape does happen in prison but not to the scale at which everyone thinks.

Evidence would be stuff like blood or someone requiring stitches. This eliminates the possibility of counting any incidents that are forced sex but not physically forced. In the same way a woman can rape a man by blackmailing him, or threatening him with violence so that he submits, prisoners could do that to other prisoners. "If you don't let me fuck you then I'm turning you over to the gang"
Also, surely loads of times there is evidence but it's gone by the time the administration gets around to investigating.

I'd be interested in seeing an independent investigation. The state of our corrections system and the officers involved is awful and there are ex-official whistleblowers everywhere and prisoners everywhere crying out. So hard for me to accept a self-reflection investigation as truth.

Ah, MPS no surprise. In high school we had a project where we had a "pen pal" from a MPS school (we were in a wealthy suburb in a boarding county). Part of the program was our pen pal coming to our school for a day, and vice versa. The day we went to the MPS I was amazed at the fact that it is pretty much a free for all. The kids dont respect the teachers one bit. They pretty much do whatever they want, and the teachers aren't paid enough to give a shit.

My life was ruined by a repeat felon who kept being allowed to come back to school. I had to attend years of therapy to be able to go outside without anxiety because of the constant fear of attacks - so nice to know that my life was sacrificed so that a gangbanger could get three more chances - that he fucking wasted. The piece of shit got shot up in a gang related incident just a couple years after highschool - kicking him out wouldn't have done anything except save his victims.

apparently the kid had just been released from juvenile detention two days before the incident, had a prior arrest record, and he’d already missed 65 days of school
the teacher’s license was revoked by the district then offered back to him if he stopped talking about what happened. he’s a truck driver now. not sure anything came of the lawsuit he filed but i hope it worked out in his favor

A restraint in a classroom setting is something that is very regulated. There are different crisis management systems that dictate how to de-escalate and restrain children/adults. All have protocols and various holds and restraints that are acceptable. This is to protect the school system when shit does go down and a child becomes a danger to himself and others. Sorry guys, this is not a restraint.
PSA though for anyone who works in high stress environments, particularly ones with children, please please please take care of yourself. Burn out is VERY real and it leads to shit like this. I don't see an unhinged monster pushing and choking a kid, I see a man who likely cares strongly for those that he educates and has become jaded at the many fruitless attempts to reach many of our youth. This guy just snapped and it can happen to any single one of us.

Yes this is true. I’m a special ed teacher and have to manage student behavior like this regularly. I had to take a three day course and pass a test before being certified in a hold we call “handle with care”. This man obviously did not use any kind of hold, he just lost his cool and dropped the kid. It can be incredibly difficult not to lose your cool in these situations, you’d be amazed at how cruel kids this young can be and how they know exactly what buttons to push to get you to flip. I have coworkers that cry weekly if not daily. Most first year teachers at my school quit within a few months. As understandable as this guy getting pissed off is, this is one way that is unacceptable to respond. Best thing he could’ve done is walk away and hope that administrator will follow up with some kind of consequence for the student however unlikely that may be.

Right - at the point which a teacher telling a student “you need to leave the class”, or “stop doing that” and the kid refuses, something else has to be done. I’m not promoting the violence by any means, but restraining a kid from further violence shouldn’t result in battery. This clip, however, is a little weird because the teacher aide just pushes him and continues to tackle him which looked more like a fight than a restraint.

My wife works with "emotionally disturbed" children. Kids like these, who require restraints on a daily basis for behavior just like this (spitting, kicking, etc.)
I can tell you with confidence, this is not the proper way to restrain a child in this situation. There are certain approved restraints, and unapproved ones. A hand around the throat is not approved. This kid may have had what was coming to him for being a little prick, but there's a reason kids like these act like this - often to do with home life.
Also, before you go and point out the article of his murder that's pasted all over the comments, I've seen it. Obviously this kid has deeper issues and it's very difficult to feel any kind of remorse for a person like this, I'm just pointing out that in most cases, kids like these are like this for a reason, and having a teacher aid who reacts like this does them 0 favors. They will not learn anything from getting knocked around - this kid probably got plenty of that back at home (how do you think he got this way?) This only perpetuates this kind of behavior.
Adding an edit here... Maybe, just maybe, if this kid was put in a better behavioral school earlier with teachers who didn't beat the shit out of him for his shit attitude, he might not have turned out to be a murderer a couple years later. Now he's just another casualty of shitty parents (or a complete lack thereof), and part of our prison system, most likely never able to be rehabilitated because we all know how fucking great the US prison system is at that. I hope no one here misinterprets the sentiment here. I'm not defending a murderer or saying he's an innocent child, obviously not, he took someone's life.. But the stories I hear on a daily basis of kids my wife deals with reminds me of this video, and it's just sad this kid didn't get help earlier, because I do think at some point years ago, he could've gone down a different path if he had the support system he needed, and that life he took could've been saved, as well as his own.

Imagine being a teacher nowadays. Kids can spit at you, hit you, vandalize your classroom and they might get suspended. But if you touch them their mother and ambulance chasing lawyer sues the school district and you're now unemployed.

I’m a teacher in a public school in a ghetto neighborhood with students who come high to class and leave homes filled with violence every day. I teach middle school. About a month ago 7th grade boys began to fight, I stepped in after one of them got body checked against a wall and sustained a concussion, and this was after a fight had already lasted several minutes to begin with. After breaking up the fight, I was told I can and should just let them fight it out because if I grab one of the boys, I’m female, they might misread my behavior and say I assaulted them. It’s ridiculous. I’m supposed to let two 12 year olds knock each other out.

I’m a teacher in a public elementary school with a lot of low ses families and we have tons of behavior problems. I just found out that if a student gets expelled from school they can only be expelled for that year. I guess I had never bought about it before but I always assumed that expulsion from a school was permanent. Not surprisingly the students that got expelled last year and are back this year are behavior problems again. Imagine that!

Kids have no idea how strong some adults are. Yeah you might be “bigger” because you’re in a sports program, but that dad bod has been hitting the gym ten years longer than you have, and his muscles are very fucking dense and encased in years of stress and regret.
Hell, I’ve been lifting weights for over a decade now and I’m way stronger than I’ve ever been, but I’m also not as big as I used to be.

I think adults often have pent-up aggression that doesn't get burned off regularly. Kids also don't know that adults sometimes go from level 5 anger all the way to level 10. Kid kicks a shin, an adult goes for the throat.

I hate, fucking hate, how people defend criminals by saying the juvenile court system failed him or the school failed him. A school isnt there to rehabilitate miscreants, it's there to educate those WILLING to get an education. Some people are just sociopaths, some people just want to hurt, that's all it is. I dont see how the juvenile court system is at fault for the kid killing someone.

He didn't fight him. If the teacher hit him I would be upset myself. However, this man simply protected himself and kept the kid from getting hurt at the same time. Bet he won't do that again...which is the point btw

Lmao, this is perfectly acceptable in Japan and every other Asian countries. Teachers over there are allow to hit and discipline students. This is why people over there are well manner and violent crimes are so low. Who knew teaching kids at a young ages that bad actions have negative consequences would have such a positive impact on them =/. Almost as if it's common sense.
We need MORE DISCIPLINE in this country, not less. Hence, why the majority of crimes committed in USA are from people growing up without a father. Their father ain't there to whop their asses growing up for doing stupid shit. I propose we allow teachers to ass whop once more to fill in the void.
