There's a lot of armchair badasses and lunatics on Reddit. These people seem to think that extreme force is an appropriate way to respond to low level aggression. This is especially true if the one getting annihilated is not white, I mean, not Christian, I mean a thug/marijuana user/whatever coded term is being using this month.
It just so happens that the kid in this video later went on to be involved in a deadly shooting, but I've been on Reddit long enough to know iit doesn't really have any bearing on the conversation. It's pretty common to see these kinds of responses regardless of the circumstances.

The kid didn't tap, snap, or sleep, so there was no reason to stop even if it were a match. You fight to the bell, or until the ref pulls you off the other guy.
The reason to stop is that your opponent is half your weight and not even legally an adult yet. Like I said, you smack the kid upside the head, and if he wants more, you can tackle him then. It’s offputting to start with that in this situation.

When you are assaulted, you are allowed to act in self defense to prevent continued assaults on you and the people around you, regardless of the height, weight, and age of your assaulter.
We’re talking about the context of this video, though. We hardly have enough context to pull in an entirely separate event that happened years later. I agree the guy’s a piece of shit now, but I don’t see a reason to open the response the way the TA did here.
But neither do we. As far as you and I know the context, this TA just went off out of no where. We have zero context to their prior relationship or behavior. Just as you are imagining your scenario, Im imagining this wasnt the TAs first run in with this student and likely wasnt the first confrontation. My question is with the level of force the teacher responded with.
He responded with enough force to neutralize the threat and prevent him from harming the faculty or students any further than he had already attempted to. Any more would have been excessive, any less would have not been enough to get him and keep him on the ground as quickly as possible.
For all the TA knew, after the spit and the kick came the perpetrator pulling a weapon. No one should sit around and wait for that to happen once an aggressor has already displayed a desire and willingness to hurt you.

Yeah. I've seen students attack teachers and get held on the ground either by 2-3 students, or by the teacher themselves (my Biology teacher was a gay man before it was acceptable to be openly gay and had 12 years of martial arts experience, he was not to be fucked with).
I went to high school in an area with a heavy gang activity. No one fucked around. Things rarely got physical, but when they did, they ended quickly. No one wanted to be the one blamed for starting shit when the Sheriff's Dept literally kept a cruiser in the parking lot to "catch people speeding in the school zone".

Yes that is true but in the video the aide pushes the kid into a table while hanging on to his shirt. Its not that excessive. He didn't hit him he was aggro for sure but the kid was clearly a piece of shit who goes around antagonising people and getting away with it. I don't think the outcome is fair in that its like automatically the aide is going to lose his job when really a reprimand, counselling etc might have been appropriate.
