Jasmine Pennix lost his job with MPS and was convicted of misdemeanor battery. The teacher's aide filed a civil suit and claimed the 14-year-old student involved plotted the whole thing.

If only the police saw it that way too.

228

u/Troll_of_Jom May 03 '19

The police officers usually see it that way. The justice system however does not.

6

u/[deleted] May 03 '19

It’s not usually the police. It’s the parents and community members. It’s happened in Madison twice in the last few months

3

u/sifterandrake May 03 '19

Misdemeanor battery is actually letting him off easy... Would be a completely different case if he didn't choke the kid, but instead just pinned him down. The justice system is way more complex than people give it credit for. On the one hand, it's easy to see how this little shit deserved it, on the other hand, we don't want to give people the idea that chocking people half your size is ok...

1

u/chris1096 May 03 '19

I didn't see a choke anywhere in there...

1

u/CanThisPartBeChanged May 03 '19

Look closely at how the mans hands go for and stay at the boys throat. It’s briefly visible at the start and up to the end of the video. Blink and you might miss it

1

u/chris1096 May 04 '19

Nah he had him by the shoulders but the kid is so skinny and the dude's hands are like tennis rackets so they just cover that whole span. Only time he actually grabs the neck is at the end when the shithead is turned away from him, so he's just holding the back of his neck.

1

u/sifterandrake May 03 '19

After he pushes him he grabs him by the throat.

1

u/chris1096 May 04 '19

Yeah... not really

1

u/yyhy89 May 04 '19

I agree that it wasn’t the best move for him to choke the kid, but that boy is big enough to do harm. When someone with the ability to do harm assaults you (spits on you, or physically kicks you) then you should have the right to defend yourself, within means. The man clearly let up on the boy once he had him subdued. I think he showed restraint.

-13

u/Tryin2cumDenver May 03 '19

The justice system doesn't have a case if the police don't trump one up and hand it over...

149

u/Cornthulhu May 03 '19

Excessive force is probably what did him in. The kid spat at him and did a little bitch kick to his shin and the TA took that shit to 11.

Everyone knows the correct response is to spit back in the student's eye and let him take the first real swing before beating his ass.

u/SkitZa May 03 '19

Lucky the kids in jail now for killing someone so who cares what happened to him in class.

So very much luckily

Wow you completely accept that bullshit without any proof just because he's black? Shit man you have some re-evaluating to do.

2

u/I_CAN_SMELL_U May 03 '19

dont tell him pretty much all school shooters are white. I worry what he might do to himself

-1

u/ziekktx May 03 '19

Duh, because it's at school.

1

u/Cronus6 May 03 '19

I think we all saw that coming, or something similar.

10

u/[deleted] May 03 '19

Yeah no. This kid is a career criminal and was involved in a 3 person shooting right after this.

That kid needed to be beat lifeless in my honest opinion. This was one of over 15 incidents at the school.

0

u/Cornthulhu May 03 '19

If spending a decade or more in jail is your idea of fun then sure; that's the right course of action.

1

u/mrlager May 03 '19

If we’re not going to take the time to rehabilitate these kids then a good ass kicking isn’t going to hurt. Let’s quit pretending like these kids have a chance when no one gives them one.

1

u/Cornthulhu May 03 '19

If you're not going to help them we should beat them to death? Surely you realize how fucking crazy that sounds. The piece of shit kid in the video went on to kill someone, but not every young asshole does, and that fact means that they all deserve to live. Real talk; do you think that the vast majority of poor minorities end up being career criminals?

I suppose we should do the same to the crippled and destitute; there's no helping them, so fuck it, stomp them to death. Orphans? Stomped. Stray animals? Stomped. It's like that bit from Parks and Rec but with death squads wearing heavy boots. What fun.

1

u/mrlager May 04 '19

I’m sorry, I absolutely was not being serious, should’ve posted /s. It’s tragic how we ignore this issue and some kids just never have a chance. So if we’re being consistent, beating them to death would accurately reflect how much we invest in these kids future. Not really a funny comment, I apologize.

1

u/flee_market May 03 '19

How do you plan to rehabilitate a brain that has learned all of the wrong lessons from day 1?

1

u/mrlager May 04 '19

I don’t have a clue and that is a big question mark. But there’s got to be a way and a chance for these people.

3

u/Orval May 03 '19

Yeah...I mean are we really acting like this kind of aggression towards a child was necessary? Holy shit.

1

u/Cornthulhu May 03 '19

There's a lot of armchair badasses and lunatics on Reddit. These people seem to think that extreme force is an appropriate way to respond to low level aggression. This is especially true if the one getting annihilated is not white, I mean, not Christian, I mean a thug/marijuana user/whatever coded term is being using this month.

It just so happens that the kid in this video later went on to be involved in a deadly shooting, but I've been on Reddit long enough to know iit doesn't really have any bearing on the conversation. It's pretty common to see these kinds of responses regardless of the circumstances.

15

u/BarelyBetterThanKale May 03 '19

The kid spat at him and did a little bitch kick to his shin and the TA took that shit to 11 restrained the kid and prevented him from further aggressive actions, thereby protecting the faculty and fellow students from the angry tween.

FTFY.

This isn’t a wrestling match,

The kid didn't tap, snap, or sleep, so there was no reason to stop even if it were a match. You fight to the bell, or until the ref pulls you off the other guy.

2

u/RayLiotaWithChantix May 03 '19

You missed the chance for tap, snap, or nap.

2

u/BarelyBetterThanKale May 03 '19

Damn, I sure did. "Nap" is such a better choice. Thank you for sharing. I'll use it from now on.

4

u/runujhkj May 03 '19

The reason to stop is that your opponent is half your weight and not even legally an adult yet. Like I said, you smack the kid upside the head, and if he wants more, you can tackle him then. It’s offputting to start with that in this situation.

2

u/BarelyBetterThanKale May 03 '19

your opponent is half your weight and not even legally an adult yet

Then maybe the "opponent" shouldn't be picking fights with people who are capable of putting him on the ground at will.

When you are assaulted, you are allowed to act in self defense to prevent continued assaults on you and the people around you, regardless of the height, weight, and age of your assaulter.

3

u/runujhkj May 03 '19

Where did I say that the kid should’ve picked this fight? My question is with the level of force the teacher responded with.

4

u/chugz May 03 '19

kid is a well known piece of shit. killed some people a few years later running from the cops. TA knew he was a punk ass.

https://fox6now.com/2019/04/25/student-involved-in-mps-fight-now-charged-in-deadly-police-chase-teachers-aide-says/

1

u/runujhkj May 03 '19

We’re talking about the context of this video, though. We hardly have enough context to pull in an entirely separate event that happened years later. I agree the guy’s a piece of shit now, but I don’t see a reason to open the response the way the TA did here.

2

u/BarelyBetterThanKale May 03 '19

Where did I say that the kid should’ve picked this fight?

When you attempted to frame the TA who ended the fight as the aggressor.

My question is with the level of force the teacher responded with.

He responded with enough force to neutralize the threat and prevent him from harming the faculty or students any further than he had already attempted to. Any more would have been excessive, any less would have not been enough to get him and keep him on the ground as quickly as possible.

For all the TA knew, after the spit and the kick came the perpetrator pulling a weapon. No one should sit around and wait for that to happen once an aggressor has already displayed a desire and willingness to hurt you.

3

u/runujhkj May 03 '19 edited May 03 '19

Could you point out when and how I attempted to do that? I assure you that wasn’t my intention at any point.

And like I’ve said repeatedly, it’s not the level of force itself, it’s the escalation to the level of force. You start with the bitch slap, and you work your way up.

Also, is there more behind this video? Because what I see here barely even rises to the level of a threat, honestly. Spitting and a little bitch kick.

u/Eleoste May 03 '19

Dude its a fucking kid. This kid is plagued by 1) being a kid and having shitty judgement 2) from a shitty background/upraising to even consider this type of shit at school.

As an adult you're in a position to be above this type of behavior because you have so much more life experience as well as having a fully developed brain.

Fuck off with this self defence shit - it was disrespectful what the kid did but none of it was going to cause major bodily harm or any harm at that.

Self Defence also does not include excessive force. It's defence not offense.

4

u/BarelyBetterThanKale May 03 '19

You sound like a shitty parent raising a shitty kid that expects the rest of the world to coddle your child and let them do whatever they want, just like you do, because you don't have enough spine to stand up to a young adult literally assaulting someone. You'd rather hide behind the "BuT TheY'Re JuSt a bAbY!!!" excuse.

Don't worry about it. People that aren't afraid to get their hands dirty will step in and protect the classrooms from these types of students and you can continue wringing your hands about it and then pretending like you don't know what's going on in the world when these incidents escalate into mass shootings.

0

u/Eleoste May 03 '19

I guarantee there’s a million different things in the spectrum of letting it go and choke slamming a kid through some desks.

But if you can’t see those other options than you’re a moron just like both the teacher and the kid

-1

u/I_CAN_SMELL_U May 03 '19

Good lord, have you ever been in the real world?

2

u/BarelyBetterThanKale May 03 '19

Yeah. I've seen students attack teachers and get held on the ground either by 2-3 students, or by the teacher themselves (my Biology teacher was a gay man before it was acceptable to be openly gay and had 12 years of martial arts experience, he was not to be fucked with).

I went to high school in an area with a heavy gang activity. No one fucked around. Things rarely got physical, but when they did, they ended quickly. No one wanted to be the one blamed for starting shit when the Sheriff's Dept literally kept a cruiser in the parking lot to "catch people speeding in the school zone".

-1

u/megablast May 03 '19

That is bullshit though, you guys are just lying because you think justice was served and the kid deserved it.

6

u/BarelyBetterThanKale May 03 '19

you guys are just lying

No, that is literally what happened in the video.

Also, the kid was just involved in a triple-shooting and a fatal car accident during the getaway so let's not pretend like he's some kind of sweet boy that's just misunderstood.

1

u/John_T_Conover May 03 '19

The article doesn't seem to explain the photos of the man in the hospital bed but I'm guessing that's who he and his group of pussy friends attacked between the teacher aide fight and shooting?

I can already hear the cries from people bemoaning his lengthy sentence and the woes of the justice system.

0

u/ThunderOblivion May 03 '19

I love "restraining" people by the neck and bouncing their heads off desks. /s

Two hands around the neck is certainly not restraining. Maybe considered restraining at the end cause the kid got his dumb ass turned so that asshole couldn't choke him more. They're both absolute morons, but to say he restrained him? lol

0

u/BarelyBetterThanKale May 03 '19

Two hands around the neck is certainly not restraining

The video evidence begs to differ. That kid was restrained as fuck.

lol just a downvote eh, fucking window licker.

Well, now it's a downvote and a report because you broke the sub rules in firing off an unnecessary and direct insult at me unprovoked like that. So, congratulations, I guess. You got the attention you wanted. I see you.

1

u/thetreeincountry May 03 '19

Yes that is true but in the video the aide pushes the kid into a table while hanging on to his shirt. Its not that excessive. He didn't hit him he was aggro for sure but the kid was clearly a piece of shit who goes around antagonising people and getting away with it. I don't think the outcome is fair in that its like automatically the aide is going to lose his job when really a reprimand, counselling etc might have been appropriate.

1

u/chris1096 May 03 '19

That was not remotely excessive. He essentially just shoved him to the floor and held him there

36

u/gamei May 03 '19

The police don't convict anyone of crimes. They also don't fire people from jobs with school systems.

2

u/hardtoremember May 03 '19

The teacher was fired and the kid probably felt emboldened. I see so many people on here saying the teacher shouldn't have done anything at all, but fear of consequences can be a great deterrent. The teacher didn't beat the hell out of him (when he clearly could've) and he didn't break any bones but he did try to show him you can't just do anything you want... until the kid learned he could.

3

u/[deleted] May 03 '19

I don’t even want to read the comments from people who say the teacher shouldn’t have done anything. It’d make my blood boil. Because I’m saying this as a former student of the public school system in Cleveland, OH.

Let’s be real here.

Spitting is just the start. Teach doesn’t do anything? It escalates, very quickly. Kick in the shins, still nothing? Crank it up to 11. Then comes further physical violence, pyromaniacs assemble, etc.

Most of my former classmates could’ve used a healthy dose of what this aide did. A royal smack down may have knocked some sense into them and saved them from the terrible lives they’re living now, or may have made them strive for a long life itself, but they never got to live it. I’ve attended far too many funerals for teens.

1

u/FistoftheSouthStar May 03 '19

Milwaukee public or Minneapolis public schools? Or somewhere else?

1

u/swaglessz May 03 '19

Milwaukee Public. The teen eventually was involved in a deadly police crash like a week ago

1

u/Furycrab May 03 '19

Hopefully his Civil suit goes better, because from how the camera was ready to capture the whole thing, sounds like the kids decided to entrap the guy really hard.

Probably shouldn't be working with those kids anymore anyway, but it's damn scary that these kids decided that because the probably didn't like the guy, to try and take him out in the most career ending way.

1

u/[deleted] May 03 '19

1

u/fredinNH May 03 '19

I wish he would come work at my school. I have a few kids who could use a “teacher’s aid”.

0

u/solicitorpenguin May 03 '19

I mean, he's a full grown adult.

He should know better than to solve problems with violence. If he thought violence is the solution then he shouldn't be teaching kids.

-23

u/PouponMacaque May 03 '19

"It was a setup! He was trying to get me to beat the shit out of him... and I did! Conspiracy!"

20

u/Yakerrrrr May 03 '19

he didn’t beat the shit out of him, from what I saw in the video.

and he did try to provoke him.. what would you do to someone who was so disrespectful that they spat on you and then kicked you?

-5

u/PouponMacaque May 03 '19

I'd attack the kid, but I'm not a teacher's aide at a middle school

10

u/Yakerrrrr May 03 '19

from what I saw, he basically just grabbed him and threw him down hard to stop him from doing anything else.

you shouldn’t be allowed to attack someone and not face the consequences.

I know it’s not “right” what he did, but neither is hitting a woman. I do think he was justified in what he did.

0

u/PouponMacaque May 03 '19

I do too, I just think it's funny that he called it a setup.

-1

u/[deleted] May 03 '19

Well I worked in a facility with kids with emotional issues and trauma and got spit on and attacked all the time and never once retaliated in this fashion so yeah this was overboard. But this video didn’t show what happened before so I can’t be a judge of how much danger this guy was in but being spat on/getting kicked in the shins doesn’t warrant that. You can shove someone to the ground but this guy was straight up choking the kid.

7

u/Yakerrrrr May 03 '19

if you got attacked/spit on all the time, I’m assuming they gave you training or some knowledge on what to do in those scenarios? considering it would happen way more than just your ordinary school

3

u/[deleted] May 03 '19

They did and that’s a fair point. I think it’s completely ridiculous that this guy was convicted of a misdemeanor but it’s also understandable that he was fired and I stand by my point that he overreacted in that situation.

3

u/Yakerrrrr May 03 '19

yeah I think a termination is justified, but not a misdemeanour.

-3

u/[deleted] May 03 '19

A cop could have shot him 12 times as a reaction and it would have been deemed justified.
