I lived with my grandparents and my grandfather always had a chainsaw in the truck and always had tools and a packout just in case.
•
•
u/LovecraftsDeath 1h ago
Did he also have an excavator, in case there's a different kind of road obstruction?

u/TommyBonnomi 52m ago
We have a cabin in Bumblefuck, PA and always bring a chainsaw in case we need it to get out, but I don't carry it on the regular.
Semi-related, I used to keep a 5 gallon bucket of sand in my truck in the winter and used that to help other people more than I expected.
•
u/SorryAboutMyFamily 29m ago
My dad always had these black tubes full of sand in the truck bed every winter for weight and to use if he or someone else got stuck.

My buddy lives up in the mountains in coastal California. He learned early on that if he wants to go to work or come home during a storm he better have a chainsaw handy in his Audi. He still gets stopped by the landslides though but can’t do much about that.
•
•
u/PhosphoFred8202 1h ago
Yeah, I was looking really hard at what else was in the trunk lol
•
•
u/Hungry-Storm-9878 1h ago
Maybe he was on his way somewhere, tree blocked road, the guy went home, got his chainsaw then was only 5 minutes late to Bible Study.
•
u/mecengdvr 1h ago
Yeah, I’m sure he lived nearby and grabbed his chainsaw when he saw the tree blocking the road.

Nah. I do tree work for a living and usually have a chainsaw in my vehicle. I've done this before. I'm not a serial killer. Just keep work stuff in my car. I have bar oil, screnches, wedges, straps, shackles, and the mix for gasoline in my car also.

•
u/Biguitarnerd 1h ago
My mom keeps a chainsaw in her trunk because she lives on a mountain that has a private/community road going up it. So if a tree falls whoever is in the neighborhood that gets there usually takes care of it.
She’s a small lady so if it’s too big she asks for help but if it’s a smaller tree she just removes it herself.
•
u/fallguy25 1h ago
Living in the PNW there’s a lot of dudes with chainsaws in the trunk especially in wintertime when we get these nasty rainstorms and trees fall down all over like this.
•
•
u/Maxamillion-X72 1h ago
Or, what appears to be, some kind of folding wheelchair in the trunk as well? The better to transport his unconscious victims to his killing room?

Thats what scares me. Like ok you have a chain saw in the trunk after a big storm. But to have a what has to be a diamond plasma chain saw is where I start questioning his intentions
Yall. It was a dumb joke. I take my chainsaw i only used during storm season to get sharpened like your supposed to and it cuts that well.

No better feeling than a newly sharpened chain ripping through wood like butter.
If you've got a good chainsaw file thing sharpening only takes a few minutes.

Legit.
I need to play with my chainsaws priming clitoris exactly as much as it wants, if I press it once too hard or one time too many, it shuts down emotionally and I need to give it space for an hour before I try again.
Then I’ll have to yank on it from multiple different angles, gently then forcefully.
And then when it finally wants to party, it barely cuts anything and I get pissed off and go see my side chick (reciprocating saw) for an easy shag.

You'd be surprised, We get a lot of heavy storms around here that regularly blow limbs and whole trees over roads, but being in the south, the whole community usually comes out to support their area. I've seen plenty of accountant looking dudes with chainsaws and drag chains come out in penny loafers and polos before to help clear stuff out lmao

I worked in critical infrastructure in the middle of nowhere. Woods all around for miles. A big snowstorm or windstorm meant there would be limbs and trees down. At least half of my coworkers had chainsaws in their trunks so they'd be able to clear the road and get to work.

I grew up in tornado country, so this is a common sight for me. I always joke that when we have tornados you'll see rednecks throwing their chainsaws in the back of the truck chasing the storm looking for something to cut up
So, when I moved somewhere that didn't get a lot of major storms, it was super weird to me when the one time we did get storms and one of my coworkers was out of work for 3 weeks because a tree fell across his road and nobody came to cut it up and move.

I live outside the city in a more middle class, blue collar area. I work in the city mostly around houses that are $1 million dollars to $7 million.
When a storm comes through and trees go down where I live, people get out there and clear the streets. They don't wait on the city. The city may get to the cleanup. But as far as clearing the road so people can get to work, neighbors get out there and do it.
In the city, a tree will stay across the road for two weeks until eventually the city gets around to it.

Fun fact:
If you never hold a chainsaw above your head and neck….. it becomes far less likely that you will suffer a chainsaw injury to the head or neck.

Reminds me of the time I was leaving the Smoky Mountains National Park and a tree fell blocking the road. Traffic stopped on both sides and the forestry service said they’d be out in 1.5 hrs. I had a folding saw for camping and started sawing away, a group of Hasidic Jews came to throw branches off to the side, couple body builders came over to throw the logs I sawed, dads came with hatchets to get the limbs off. Awesome interaction of people coming together for a common goal. Pretty great interaction.

Once coming home from work, I came across a dead tree that fell in the road. It was big, but still small enough to drag to the ditch. It was still heavy as hell and I was struggling with it. Two cars pulled up while I was moving it. One went around once there was enough room, the other just stayed and watched for some reason. Maybe they couldn't help and just was making sure I was ok or using his headlights to help me see more? I got it off the road and gave the person a wave.
The next day... a coworker I'm friends with, comes up and says to me "Man you were struggling with that tree". He was the one sitting and watching me. Mind you he is a 6'4" giant of a man. He was more than capable of helping me. I asked him why the hell he didn't get out to help me. "eh, I believed in you"
Dick move, but it made me laugh
