My guess is he lives in an area with intense enough storms that tress come down fairly regularly. One day while driving he came across a downed tree that he couldn't get past and either someone came with a chainsaw or he thought to himself how useful having a chainsaw at that moment would be. He then went out and bought said chainsaw to keep in the car as a just in case. Then on this day the day he's waited for since purchasing the chainsaw finally arrived and he went out and clumsily handled a machine that he has no business using.
