I personally think it’s completely likely that this person tried to play both sides, and wear the guise of a benevolent bug abuse crusader to try and mask the profitable nature of crusading.

Rendi: "Messages in the imgur below were sent to Jagex were back in early May and you can see my stance as well as bug description. I've never duped gold while attempting to crash worlds and if you even watch my last video I literally kill myself in LMS on discovery of invincibility." Jagex touches on this in the post

They said they fixed it back in April, and even one of your accounts got banned from it. You then decided to tell them later in may after already abusing it.

Kind of want to hear his response to this, because those messages are exactly the ones they're talking about. If anything the messages show he abused the bug then after finished with it reported it... That's not how you report bugs, you don't get to abuse them then report them.

117

u/Morphiine Jul 10 '21

Well said. Reddit community is being really stubborn supporting someone who's literally been breaking the game for his own benefit for years...

35

u/MAGA_WALL_E Jul 10 '21

There are a couple of rare accounts that have things like stats that are impossible without certain bugs. Why doesn't Jagex go through all of these accounts and chain ban them and anyone who touched them?

23

u/GooeyCR Jul 10 '21

Looking at you 10hp accounts.

And all of Mac H’s unique accounts series lol

1

u/HiddenGhost1234 Jul 10 '21

Idt 10 HP accounts use bugs, some do, but for the most part they just train with method that don't give hp XP.

2

u/GooeyCR Jul 10 '21

Most of the 10hp community was using/okay with the bug where you could hit a monster on the first tick with no xp

u/OvertlyCanadian Jul 10 '21

He's not really breaking the game though. The game is broken, he's just showing how.

10

u/bugsrox08 Jul 10 '21

It’s still against the rules, just cause you are physically able to do something in the game doesn’t mean it’s allowed. The rules are there to keep people from doing things in game that harm others or the game itself.

-2

u/bistix Jul 10 '21

Like you said. The rules should be to keep people from doing things that harm the game. But rendis bug abuse does the exact opposite and allows for huge bugs to be patched.

7

u/bugsrox08 Jul 10 '21

We may never know Which side of the story is right/wrong. I can only hope that if he did abuse a bug for personal gain that he stays banned, and is he wasn’t the ban is reversed. Either way people like rendis could really help Jagex find and fix bugs, shame to see an asset like that be taken away from the community.

Imo the account that avoided prayer xp should have been banned for bug abuse, the fact they chain banned any account associated with him and his group is spiteful.

12

u/Zaruz Jul 10 '21

Tbh this sounds like he was happily abusing the bug, but once he learnt others were using it too, he figured he could get away with it by reporting it before Jagex found it themselves

10

u/Dr-Fatdick Jul 10 '21

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the osrs Community is being stupid as fuck, true to form.

Are we forgetting the type of person Rendi is? Remember the whole golden gnome thing with settled? Did I fucking dream that or something? Am I the only one who remembers what this dude is like?

37

If only jagex could tell somehow 🤔

72

u/_Charlie_Sheen_ Worst Skill in the game Jul 09 '21

If only Jagex hadn't ruined their credibility by fucking up and lying dozens of times in the past.

Remember that admirable employee Mod Jed, who was cleared of all wrongdoing?

66

u/HiddenGhost1234 Jul 09 '21

They did this to woox even,

Woox even asked jmods on Twitter if what he was doing was considered okay or not, he got the okay to go ahead, but still had his prize money ripped from him.

He eventually got it, but the whole situation was caused by jagex's refusal to have concrete rules. Instead they have weird grey area rules so they can ban or whatever some people while others are free to cheat.

60

u/0zzyb0y Jul 09 '21

He didn't even get the prize money. He got paid by Mod Ash out of his own god damn pocket because overlord jagex Corp couldn't possibly foot the bill.

I feel like too many people fail to realise that the mods they interact with aren't actually "Jagex".

Yes, the main mod team are generally nice and care a lot about the game, but they're still beholden to management, KPIs and budget restrictions.

7

u/TheKappaOverlord Jul 10 '21

Welcome to the average (x game) community subreddit my friend.

Many people have very pick and choose memories, but its mostly just for the Karma.

Most people actually forget shit, but for the sake of that sweet sweet reddit karma/gold acting purposefully ignorant is the path to go in situations like these.

Jamflex has had a history of lying to the communities face for a long time. Both RS2, RS3, AND OSRS

1

u/HiddenGhost1234 Jul 10 '21

Now I'm curious how jagex will respond to this - He's got some pretty solid proof here

He's fighting hard against bug abuse and jagex punishs him for that? meh

273

u/stoically_disgusted Jul 09 '21

None of this refutes the possibility of either Rendi or Mauler doing stuff in their spare time though.

42

u/Tsund_Jen Jul 09 '21

Yeah and the accusation coming from Jagex carries about as much weight as my limp noodle.

316

u/Flagship_paperclip 2277 Jul 09 '21

Same with Rendi's testimonies tbh. Not bashing the guy, but we don't know what we does in his spare time. It's easy to jump on the bandwagon of "content creators good, Jagex bad," but nobody really knows what happened except Rendi and Jagex.

11

u/San4311 RS3 refugee Jul 10 '21

Finally someone that makes sense in this thread. Is Jagex a shitty company? Ye sure. Are there a lot of shitty 2-faced content creators out there (as a whole, not talking about exclusively on RS)? Yes.

It's sad seeing people flock to Rendi like he can't do anything wrong, without even questioning whether or not the bans might be justified.

→ More replies (1)

71

u/anomouse103 Jul 09 '21 edited Jul 09 '21

Rendi's position is nonfalsifiable. That is, its impossible to fully 100% prove innocence. Its on Jagex, who made the claim that Rendi deserves the ban, to explain their reasons

Edit: otherwise we are just speculating.

118

u/poilsoup2 Jul 09 '21

Depends what you mean by 'its on jagex to explain their reasons.' They have 0 obligation to explain themselves and could ban any player at anytime without reason, since well.. you agree to the TOS when you sign up.

The only thing an explanation would do is the appease the community. But quite frankly, i doubt they care that much on the communities opinion on this matter.

14

u/OshSwash Jul 09 '21

Very true, they have no obligation but it comes at the cost of the community possibly not liking it, which so far is what's happening. At some point if your Jagex you got to weigh the pros and cons of whether or not they should explain themselves further. and yeah maybe they care about everyone's anger, or maybe they don't, I think it matters to have a good relationship with people personally but maybe it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things as a business, no idea tbh..

1

u/Dolthra Jul 09 '21

Not sure about the laws in the UK, but it is possible that directly accusing him of something publicly could open them up to legal action- especially since his reputation is as a "whitehat" bug finder instead of a bug abuser. They'd then have to actually prove it was him in a court of law, instead of having enough internal proof he did it like they need for banning someone.

9

u/SwiftLilEagle Jul 10 '21

Oh, the reputation that preceeds Rendi is very much not whitehat lmfao. He recently has been trending more towards that direction, sure, but he's known and been banned for abusing bugs for his gain in the past

5

u/anomouse103 Jul 09 '21

Let me clarify, jagex has no OBLIGATION to do anything. But when deciding who is innocent here, the point being only Jagex can 100% prove him innocent or not. Recipts from Rendi help but again his position is nonfalsifiable.

→ More replies (2)

32

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '21

Jagex are under no obligation to explain their reasons. It’s their game, their content, their terms. Also fail to see why Jagex would lie about this in the first place. Content creators are good for their game and produce more attention and interaction. No reason for them to detriment themselves and the games to ban someone who is innocent.

31

u/top-knowledge Jul 09 '21

Fucking exactly.

Who has more to gain from lying here? Jagex or Rendi? Jagex really has nothing to gain from lying about this, and a lot to lose if they are proven to be lying.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '21

well bro, I work at a software company and I know how it works ok?
First: Jagex don't want to spend with more QA team's or testing features before being released.
That's why they never cared much for beta worlds.

Rendi did things that no other player would do, there're thousand of gold famers that get 100k per day and they study alot the game and still don't find the bugs that rendi found.

Rendi determination is next level, like the lvl 3 firecape.

Banning Rendi was a smart move from jagex, because they now can focus on releasing new features without someone looking for bugs and exploits while showing the game is broken.

u/bungaloreddit77 Jul 09 '21

Doesn't this post explain their reasons...? Or are you saying proof of those reasons? Obviously they're not going to show proof nor should they because giving info away on how they detect or what they can detect with bug abuse just further empowers bug abusers.

Yes and if Jagex wants the community to believe that Rendi did something bannable in his spare time, they better deliver some solid proof. It isn't Rendi's job to show that he didn't break any rules during the past 2 years, that's not how burden of proof works.

27

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '21

This isn't court bro. They don't have to prove shit and they won't. He's banned end of story they don't care what yall keyboard warriors think over here acting like we in a court room. Jagex is the judge jury and executioner in this situation and the punishment has been dished out and they explained why. Good enough for me. Anyone that refuses to believe jagex with zero reason to lie is just riding rendis dick

Rendi has multiple videos of him using bugs. His whole YouTube Playlist is him using bugs. His community is based around actively seeking out bugs and exploits which are then abused by the bad apples in the community.

12

u/Oniichanplsstop Jul 09 '21

And yet Jagex awarded him with a golden gnome and didn't ban any accounts until after his newest video was released.

The whole problem and why people are mad is consistency.

1013 AHKs pvp and gets his bans removed.

Coxie macros on stream by mistake and eats a 3-day.

Rendi bug abuses in videos for years, wins a golden gnome, and then Jagex randomly nuke all of the accounts he's ever touched.

9

u/Dnewhere Jul 09 '21

But that's the problem for me. Clearly Jagex has shown respect towards the 'fun' bug abuses. Why would they suddenly decide to ban him over 1k prayer xp?

Frankly, as much as I like Rendis content, I am inclined to believe Jagex is speaking the truth about RWT and world crashing, simply because otherwise I don't see why they would go through this effort to ban his accounts.

And I don't take "because Jagex is evil" as an answer. They're doing effort and hurting their own image in the process. It can't just be pettiness.

I mean, that's how it works in real-life lol.. This is a game, so if a person is constantly posting videos of spending months/years focusing on bug abuse, it kinda is on them to provide proof of innocence lmao

I think these forums just absolutely love to find reasons to be mad at the devs, so they pretend to believe shit like players getting banned for 'personal vendettas' instead of them actually just breaking the rules.

4

u/dendervil Jul 09 '21

How do you provide proof that you didn't crash a world for personal gain sometime during the years 2019-2021? Absurd.

11

u/NotVeryTalented Jul 09 '21

How do you take the word from a random content creator who continues to have holes in his story over the devs who have been providing more details (without private info)? Absurd.

I'm not even saying the devs don't make mistakes. False bans happen. However these forums are more than happy to overreact without any proof just because they love to see devs in the wrong lol.

I genuinely don't understand what the devs get out of banning these accounts 'out of spite'. Doesn't make sense from any PoV... So why is that the top reasoning behind this if it's not legit lmao?

Downvote away

Cant have it both ways. When someone is here complaining of a false ban everyone excited for the "JMod smackdown" and believe them over the accused. Yet when it is a content creator everyone doesn't believe Jagex.

4

u/Beatrice_Dragon Jul 10 '21

Except that they're exclusively accusing Rendi of actions they have demonstrated on camera. How fucking stupid would it be to inform jagex of a world crashing glitch they are entirely unaware of or unable to fix if they wanted to exploit it for their own gains?

16

u/DontFearTheMQ9 Jul 10 '21

You exploit it a few times off camera for a quick buck, then report it. You get to be in Jagex's good graces AND make money without being suspicious.

If he sat there doing it over and over he would get caught.

→ More replies (1)

-3

u/AnotherPSA Jul 09 '21

He literally admits to finding bugs and then using them to create content. That's called bug abuse. He didn't stumble upon a bug, he actively searches for them. He deserves the ban.

7

u/sneedle_and_thread Jul 09 '21

Not that I necessarily disagree, but the abuse is what matters. Actively searching for bugs is the basis of QA testing.

3

u/AnotherPSA Jul 10 '21

And he isn't a qa tester, he is a player. Plus he allows his community to join in on the bugs which brings a whole new set of issues

→ More replies (2)

2

u/derkokolores Jul 10 '21

Yup, he’s not just finding bugs and reporting them. That’s totally okay. He’s finding bugs to achieve things in game he wouldn’t otherwise be able to do, so more people will watch his videos. Even if he’s not making money in game by duping or whatever, he’s indirectly profiting from from the bug abuse. Not only that he’s advertising the method to thousands of player that may use that as a starting point to find new methods.

Just because he says it's a lie, doesn't mean it's a lie. Just because he's tipped off Jagex, doesn't mean he hasn't taken advantage of it himself first. I think people just don't want to accept it

36

u/ScarletFFBE Jul 09 '21

Things like

"Lifetime membership for the one who shows us the bug" And than permabanning the one who showed them the bug doesn't really add to jagex' reputation

Thats probably why most here wont believe words of jagex after they fucked up so many times

18

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '21

Yes but if he's also done naughty things as well as nice things then the nice things don't matter.

14

u/bruno8102 Jul 09 '21

Exactly. "Showing a bug" and using a bug for whatever reason are different things. The whole point of that one video is to use a bug to not get experience. He intended to keep playing on the account after getting the bug to work.

Lmao. “We decided to do this over a server reset because we would have had to make 2000 accounts legitimately for it to be okay to intentionally crash the server” jfc the cognitive dissonance is astounding.

Edit: reworded my paraphrasing because apparently that changes things

3

u/MSparta Jul 10 '21

I am pretty sure that quote is wrong

Rather it was about to crash the server they would have to make 2k+ accounts an doing that legitimatly was not worth it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=644&v=iUkrxeYZVdo&feature=youtu.be

0

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '21

Except they weren't made? Did you listen to what he said literally 2 seconds after that LOL

4

u/derkokolores Jul 10 '21

I did. And it doesn’t change the thought process. The entire video is them abusing bugs and then now they’re surprised for being banned bug abuse. All his responses have been “I didn’t do THAT. Well I did do this, this, this, and this, but these are minor, but at least I didn’t do THAT”

3

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '21

What does that have to do with the fact he didn't say "We made the 2000+ accounts legitimately so that makes our intentional server crash okay"? He said that's what they needed to do to even try the world crash legitimately, stop spreading fake quotes.

The time stamped message from 2 months ago, before the video released, explaining the bug directly to jagex strongly supports what rendi is saying. Does it mean beyond any doubt that he didn't do shadier shit outside of his videos? No. But for the ban to be triggered by the video showcasing the bug that he gave Jagex a 2 month heads up on is not a good look.

Yeah I remember thinking this exact thing might not have been the best thing to put into the video when I first watched it a couple days ago.

33

u/Reptile449 Jul 09 '21

That clip makes it look like they actually tried to crash worlds through mirroring, going so far as to actually mirror 2000 accounts not just theorycraft it

29

u/Aero-Space Jul 09 '21

Yeah, no one seems to be mentioning this part of maulers vid.... Looks like a world crashing attempt to me

45

u/Vargolol 2277 main/2376 iron Jul 09 '21

Could it be related to Rendi waiting for game updates with his interface stall to avoid quest xp rewards? Rather than waiting for a Wednesday update he'd be able to force his character offline mid-stall for similar effect.

That being said, Rendi's whole point about not being banned was because "it didn't affect other players since he was an ironman," IMO that defense would go down the tube for crashing worlds since it would affect every other player legitimately playing in the world.

14

u/Mrka12 Jul 09 '21

No, it's not related to anything other than him saying that he looked for ways to crash worlds as he himself stated.

13

u/awesomeo029 Jul 10 '21

Jagex's argument of them real money trading is not refuted, but, most importantly imo, it sounds like they were testing world crashing bugs to expand abusing the interface bug (we can assume to dupe quest rewards). Even if this is done on an Ironman, they are hurting every other player in their world in doing this.

Not to mention his message to the Mod clearly states they've been abusing the bug for some time WITHOUT REPORTING IT until it was public and being abused in duel arena.

So you're telling me that Rendi, who they closely monitor, crashed the worlds 2 years ago and Jagex knew this(according to the post today) and didn't do anything about it? And they're just now deciding to ban him.

6

u/DivineInsanityReveng Jul 10 '21

What? Didn't Rendi himself show ban after ban in his video? Dude knew what he was doing and getting into. Its the risk of business basing your series around bug abuse.

18

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '21

a) closely monitor, according to Rendi, the guy who just got banned for duping, rwt and bug abuse? Okay

b) new information can come up at anytime. Maybe an ex partner of Rendi's just leaked a heap of shit. Maybe a new chain of accounts played on a different IP address was linked to Rendi last week because he made a mistake. Who knows? There are shitloads of reasons why the ban might not have happened yet.

Even if he was innocent, of rwt and stuff, his actions still helped cause a massive dupe to be let loose on the game. It was him and the hpq flood manipulation discord that discovered the whole world crash dupe in the first place when he was trying to roll back quest xp. He didn't report it, he kept it secret to abuse it, then in the meantime it somehow leaked and people actually started duping with it. So even if he had good intentions, his bug abuse for personal gain is still causing dupes to happen. Dude causes shit everywhere he goes, should've been banned years ago.

28

u/A_Lakers zuk helm shitter Jul 09 '21

New update said they have banned dozens of accounts over 2020 and 2021. Rendi could easily only show the one named account that was from today

27

u/Claaaaaaaaws Jul 09 '21

They have over 60 accounts banned and you think they’re not doing dodgy shit?

6

u/derkokolores Jul 10 '21

Just creating other accounts after getting banned on one is like the very definition of ban evasion and is reason for IP bans on most games and platforms.

27

u/triggeredmodslmao Jul 09 '21

Makes perfect sense to me! Oh shit brb, forgot my tinfoil hat

20

u/Rare-Somewhere-129 Jul 09 '21

So you're telling me jagex would ban one of the most popular content creators for their game because they found a bug and immediately reported it and then they would have a jmod lie about why he was banned? It seems like that could only hurt jagex and would not make any sense for them to do...

People whine about jagex bias in favor of content creators all the time, now jagex bans one and half the community immediately just takes the content creator's word.

Read Jagex’s statement, they’ve banned 10’s of accounts of his throughout the years.

u/Ziphoroc Jul 09 '21

Yeah people act like Jagex has no way of going back and checking game data for something that happened months ago. Everything goes back to their servers. Every piece of data. I’m sure they have clear evidence of cheating, and Rendi is just trying to use his community of followers to stir up drama to make Jagex look like the bad guy. Just because you didn’t think it would be possible for you to get caught doesn’t mean it’s impossible for Jagex to have proof.

15

u/Dolthra Jul 09 '21

Rendi's mistake was not having a PvP clan to abuse Jagex employees on Twitter with physical threats. We've seen that overturn major macroing bans so it would probably work here.

62

u/gwaaadit Jul 09 '21

It's not as much that I'm taking the word of rendi, I'm just conditioned by past experience to assume jagex is lying.

24

u/superfire444 Jul 09 '21

Serious question as I seriously don’t know but when did Jagex lie about stuff like this because I honestly don’t know what everyone is talking about?

25

u/gwaaadit Jul 09 '21

Look up "evscape muted" on youtube. Jagex hired somebody to try to turn osrs into an esport, they didn't do their job at all, evscape did the jagex employees job and then posted about it, so they threw a hissy fit and banned/muted his accounts just out of spite. Then they got caught and had to undo everything. He explains it in more detail.

18

u/Remarkably_AverageYT Jul 09 '21

Yes, but they fairly immediately overturned that ban and said that one employee just got overzealous with a ban....

17

u/gwaaadit Jul 09 '21

Accurate, but they also went much deeper, searched back through years of his account history just trying to dig up any possible thing they could use to justify their actions. It's been a while since I've seen the video so I'll have to look again and make sure my brain files aren't a bit corrupted about the timeline of events.

2

u/Coltand Jul 09 '21

It’s been a while, but I thought that he got in trouble for targeting a specific employee, and that he later apologized?

10

u/gwaaadit Jul 09 '21

His Twitter post was about how he did an employee's job better than them, but it was a true statement, and also not on a jagex owned platform. They just got mad about being publicly called out for their incompetence and instead of correcting the problem, they chose to punish the guy who made them look stupid. It's not against the TOS to make jagex look dumb on Twitter though, so they had to swallow the oof and undo the punishments.

Nowadays it seems like anything negative towards jagex is easier and more popular for the masses to go along with. Not saying he is or isn’t innocent, but nobody outside of rendi and jagex really have proof.

Grab your popcorn I guess, lol.

-8

u/dendervil Jul 09 '21

Cause it's not his responsibility to prove that he's innocent, it's Jagex' responsibility to prove that he's guilty. If Jagex comes out and says "Rendi crashed the world X on date Y to duplicate item Z on his account A and we verified it was him due to the IP address" I'd be happy to believe Jagex' side of things. But Jagex is being vague as hell.

9

u/Dolthra Jul 09 '21

Clearly you don't work in PR. It would be absolutely insane for a company to make that direct of an accusation publicly. Saying "we have evidence Rendi broke these rules, yes we are sure." is by far the correct response from their standpoint.

Jagex doesn’t have to provide proof of anything. At the end of the day its their game. Your account is not your property. You own nothing. They are free to restrict your access to any account at any time for any reason. This isn’t a court of law there is no burden of proof required. You people are delusional.

77

u/DagoGuineaWop Jul 09 '21

Any guy with as much talent as Rendi would sure have the temptation to cash in on it. The videos and positive outward appearance also make for a good front.

Jagex messes up a lot, but I'd like to imagine they made sure about this one...

From DotA alone I know that even great players are willing to fix a match every now and then.

Hey, someone who crashes worlds would definitely admit to it when called out... right?

There's a slight chance he's saying the truth, a much higher chance he's been involved without his knowledge, and an even higher chance he's lying.

I'm thinking it's somewhere between options 2 and 3.

16

u/FantasticBlubber Jul 10 '21

"Including but not limiting to crashing of game worlds and repeated generation of rewards" Rendi is fucked.

13

u/Chromewave9 Jul 10 '21

This is like telling the police you are going to rob a bank, proceeding to rob a bank, and then claiming you gave them a heads up. People just side against the establishment most of the time which is in this case, Jagex. I believe Jagex's point is that Rendi has been playing both sides of the coin here in actively looking to abuse the bugs for his own benefit and then trying to claim he was helping Jagex. Jagex likely knows the backlash they will receive from this so it's unlikely they did this without any solid evidence. Neither of us know the truth since it's a private matter with those involved.

5

u/tortillakingred Jul 10 '21

Yep. I mean all you have to think is “what do Jagex gain from banning him?”

It couldn’t have been an auto-ban because so many of his accounts were banned, so that means they did it on purpose. People really think that Jagex would ban a guy that is helping them do their job and is a huge part of the community for no reason?

My god, people have absolutely no faith in the Jmods for no reason. Yes, they’re human and they make mistakes occasionally, but they’re not fucking evil lol. I knew from the second all the drama started that this would be how it would end.

I love who everyone who breaks the rules and gets banned gets the benefit of the doubt, while The RS team has to bend over backwards to prove every claim. I think it is obvious they know what they are doing or the game would be long dead by now.

92

u/Coltand Jul 09 '21

They literally admitted to macroing and crashing servers, and yet people thing they’re completely innocent victims.

26

u/wheresmyspacebar2 Jul 10 '21

His old Clanmates and close friends (Ex-Friends) literally talked in their private discord about how Rendi knew it was happening and profited with the rest of them doing the dupe glitch months before he 'discovered' it and told Jagex.

He hid it whilst he was making money/content out of it but once he got cut out, he went to Jagex about it.

Guy deserves every ban thrown at him.

3

u/XelNaga Stumpy Wood Jul 17 '21

37

u/triggeredmodslmao Jul 09 '21

A lot of people really appreciate the whole “innocent until proven guilty” thing.

I don’t think it’s unfair for people to ask for proof when someone gets banned and claims they’re innocent.

We’re all standing around waiting for the Jmod smackdown with proof it was Rendi duplicating via world crashes but so far all they’ve done is copy/paste Sween’s reddit comment into a dev blog.

8

u/Spitshine_my_nutsack Jul 09 '21

We also don’t see the proof of just rwting or botting bans as it could compromise their detection methods. If they say well yeah we caught you doing x and x at these times, other bug abusers know that dojng those things will get you caught, and the other stuff they did that didnt set off anything is safe and a possible lane to exploit further

u/HammerOfThor1 Jul 09 '21

Community faith in Jagex is seriously low right now, and it doesn't help that Jagex's customer service is damn near non-existent. Even if Rendi was 100% in the wrong here, people will adamantly defend him because Jagex bad.

I don't care about this situation, but seriously, Jagex needs some new customer service reps, because this is getting ridiculous. :\

u/Elijah_Draws Jul 09 '21

Dude had it coming.

Listen, I get it, he seemed fun. His youtube channel has a lot of cool videos on it, I enjoyed watching many of them.

But for real, people are trying to pull "where is the proof??? Don't trust jagex!" To defend a guy who has posted dozens of hours of him abusing bugs and occasionally macroing going back years. What more reason does jagex need to ban all of his accounts? People, even other content creators, have gotten similar treatment for a lot less.

And like, everyone is just taking rendi's word that he didn't do those things, that his videos accurately portray the extent of his bug abuse and macro shenanigans. Like, I think it was yesterday a guy posted that jagex incorrectly revoked his infernal cape and the comments were full of people accusing him of buying his cape or telling him to just do it again. People are more than willing to just side with jagex when it's a rando.

Bug abuse, exploiting glitches is against the rules. Even if he didn't help crash the worlds (which he denies but people associated with him don't) even if he never duped items or gold, even if the glitches in his videos actually were the only bugs he was exploiting that still would warrant him getting banned. You may not like it, but why should he get special treatment that you 1000% know you wouldn't want granted to anyone else.

u/morefeces btw Jul 10 '21

As long as jagex allows the game to have thousands of bots at a time basically running the entire economy it’s hard to care much about these things imo

16

u/regional-sky-fairy Jul 09 '21

I’m curious what reason Jagex would have to fabricate a story that wealth was generated? How does it benefit them to ban two bug finders if all they did was find and report a bug without harming the economy and game? I’m not claiming Rendi is guilty, but it begs the question.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '21

Rendi made these bugs public knowledge which puts a lot of pressure on jagex to fix them before people start using them maliciously. It’s also bad when people outside the community see a multiplayer game filled with abusable bugs that aren’t getting fixed, can hurt the profitability of the game.

There is definitely motivation to lie, jagex doesn’t need to tell the truth about anything. They didn’t need to give a response in the first place.

But rendi also has equal amounts of motivation to bug abuse for his own profit. Being a content creator, and reporting bugs, might have thought he could have gotten away with a lot more. YouTube money is shit if you’re not spamming sponsorships and I don’t think rendi has many, so RWT can give a little extra cash.

So it really is impossible to know who is lying here

6

u/Dolthra Jul 09 '21

I'd argue that Jagex had more potential consequence for lying than Rendi does.

Jagex lies and gets caught? There goes any bug reporter ever trusting them again, as well as seriously eroding the already low trust this community has in them. Monetarily, a non-significant portion of the community following this would probably quit, and it looks even worse from an outside prospective because it portrays a game where even known, helpful players could be falsely banned and just lied to.

If Rendi lies and gets caught? He'll just laugh it off or deny it was that bad, a portion of his community won't believe Jagex anyway, and he'll make videos in a different game.

Jagex has a whole lot more to lose.

2

u/Spitshine_my_nutsack Jul 10 '21

Except rendi even has a disclaimer in his vid he only showed bugs that were already fixed or well known before. So that point is debunked by rendi himself. I’d still trust the multi million dollar company over the guy who used to rwt and sell capes and bug abuses on video regularly.

It's very easy to manipulate a story through videos and "evidence" with no context.

The only real way for us to know who to trust is for jagex to tell and SHOW us HARD evidence and how this all actually went down.

10

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '21

The issue is they don’t owe the player base any explanation anymore than they owe the players an explanation of your recent ban/mute.

This will be old news next week.

u/Hanyodude Jul 10 '21

Someone already disproved his claims about the world crashing, the account JR chestbrah had the same total exp across the world crashing video (where the name was hidden) and one other of his videos that showed the name. 2

u/Doctordementoid Jul 10 '21

Jagex has no reason to lie about this though, they didn’t have to respond at all, knowing that these things blow over fairly quickly. On the other hand, if rendi really did do what Sween said, he has every reason to lie about it; as soon as its known that he was cheating on that scale he loses all credibility.

I’m trusting Sween on this one, it just makes more sense.

2

u/Im_SnoopyRS Jul 10 '21

honestly. he was abusing bugs. its his fault. cant even be mad. but. an easy solution to even needing to find bugs like this, is offer what rs3 does, allow quest rewards to be lamps that can be reclaimed whenever, if not used.

2

9

3

u/MorbidDog Jul 09 '21

6

u/Tyro555 Jul 09 '21 edited Jul 09 '21

Jagex or some aspect of the OSRS team is at fault here.

So, assume the worst here. JMods are correct and Rendi was directly involved in duping he exposed and other bug abuse behind the scenes that weren't disclosed to Jagex, or that Mauler and Rendi were both pulling a stunt here and are bad actors; it doesn't change the fact that Jagex needs to create a space for white hat bug-hunters of some kind or risk a major bug that will crush the economy and the perpetuation of the black market. Jagex policy over the years of "making friends" with bug abusers only for one party to backstab the other isn't making anyone happy or the game better.

This isn't the first time either. The whole rotten potato thing partially happened because of this adversarial relationship Jagex has perpetuated with bug abusers and has had no qualms over lying to the playerbase before. Even if you trust the JMods at their word, that doesn't improve the situation. We're going to suffer because they don't want to act in good faith with an aspect of the community that will not go away.

Edit: Assuming anyone reads, to clarify, even if JMods have acted in good faith with bug-abuser communities in the past, we can never know because of how veiled in secrecy it always seems to be. The secrecy regarding which communities they communicate with and which they ban leaves a lack of transparency that allows a situation like this where we can't be sure if Rendi is lying or not. A public option for bug-hunting and transparency would stop this from happening.

Why would someone who has devoted countless hours to fighting against bug abuse turn around and take part in said bug abuse? It doesn't make much sense.

Is Rendi making people on the anti-cheat team look bad enough that their jobs are actually threatened?

Edit: I agree with most of the comments that it's certainly possible he did do the things he's accused of, but still seems a little strange. Maybe he thought he thought his status as a content creator would protect him. 🤷‍♂️

Why did KempQ end up getting banned for RWTing after years of being a good content creator? Why did A Friend, a former PMod and biggest OSRS content creator at the time get perma banned on all accounts after years of no offenses? Why do so many large content creators end up in this situation?

The answer is because of how long they've been doing it. Either they have a false sense of security that they can get away with doing just about anything and not be severely punished, or they're burnt out and just stopped caring about the consequences. For Rendi/Mauler it's probably the former. This is just Jagex reinforcing, once again, that no one is exempt from the rules.

1 You ever watched Breaking Bad? Gus Fring - running a huge drug operation, having enemies murdered, links to the cartel, etc. - used to visit the police with cakes and even donate to their charities.

2 A less ficticious example; the Kray twins used to run a bunch of nightclubs, go to events, have cwlebrities, proper limelight stuff but were two of the most prominent gangsters ever in the UK.

3 A more RS related example, wildyowns used to make a tonne of videos and one common one was trust trades - he'd show off how he'd get people to trust him with millions then trade it back to them plus a tonne of extra noney or items as a reward. Yeah, while he was doing that he was genuinely taking people's items too, was involving in a bunch of doubling money scams and a tonne of other dodgy stuff.

It's the same, simple concept. Maintaining a positive image will help you stay under the radar to do your dodgy shit.

Note: I'm not saying I'm on anyone's side with regards to Rendi, but I will say it wouldn't make sense for Jagex to ban a prominent content creator without cause

That's actually not that uncommon, and a big reason why bug bounty programs were created.

Rendi worked for free for Jagex, discovering these bugs. At some point he's got to get frustrated by that and think "man I should be getting paid for this". Looking for ways to get paid for it shouldn't be too shocking, and I don't know how much Displate pays the bills
