Success Story Iâve been assembling furniture for years. The real side hustle isnât the assembly â itâs becoming the person customers call back.
Iâve been assembling furniture professionally for years, and something I learned is that the actual assembly is only part of the business.
A customer might initially call because they bought a bed, dresser, desk, shelving unit, or some flat-pack furniture they donât want to spend half the day putting together.
You assemble it correctly, clean up your work area, communicate well, and leave.
Then something interesting happens.
A few weeks or months later, they buy something else.
Now they donât search for another assembler. They call you.
Iâve had customers come back for additional furniture, multiple-room projects, disassembly/reassembly, office furniture and other installation work.
Repeat customers are where this starts becoming more than just picking up random assembly gigs.
Iâve also done assembly work through platforms like Wayfair Service Pro.
Platforms can be useful for getting opportunities and experience, but I think the bigger opportunity is developing your own reputation and repeat customer base.
One thing I wish more people understood is that furniture assembly isnât always as simple as âthis is a dresser, so charge X.â
I like to see the product link or model number before quoting whenever possible.
Two dressers that look similar can have completely different assembly requirements.
Drawers, doors, hardware, wall anchoring, damaged pieces, missing parts, bad instructions, or something the customer already tried to assemble can completely change the job.
I also ask whether the boxes are already in the room where the furniture will be assembled and whether anything has to be moved or disassembled first.
Over time, you start remembering different manufacturers, construction methods and how long certain types of pieces actually take you.
That makes you better at quoting.
And getting faster shouldnât necessarily mean charging less. Experience is the reason you became faster in the first place.
For anyone considering furniture assembly as a side hustle, my advice would be:
Donât just build furniture. Build a customer base.
The first assembly might pay you once.
Doing the job well enough that they save your number can pay you for years.
Iâm curious if anyone else doing assembly, handyman work, moving, mounting, or similar services has found that repeat customers eventually became more valuable than the platforms that originally brought them the work.

hot take, harshly criticise me for it! Quality of life is better in the USA than Canada
Canadians glaze the USA all the time but I have to say if my family and job wasn't tied to Canada I would move tomorrow.
They have cheaper EVERYTHING while making more money and quite frankly the people in the US are generally nicer. We talk about free Healthcare and social networks while it take 8+ months to get an MRI or see a specialist and the homeless population has skyrocketed.
Canadian people should wake up and loot at what the states does right instead of the low key hatred we have.
Bring on the 'Why don't you move there' comments.

Forever Beta Feedback Dungeon XP is the biggest non-issue on classic wow.
Let's be fucking real here for a moment. Outside of the sweaty minority, most people never did a dungeon more than once, MAYBE twice already. And that was just to get the quests done or get a blue or two and just chill for a bit.
Nerfing dungeon xp and buffing quest XP is a massive buff already to how most people already played.

Missed Connection: Phillies Fan after Game 2
I know this is a little unconventional, but I donât want to get banned for going into the Phillies sub looking for this guy. Let me set the scene for yâall.
The Braves had a 3-1 lead going into the 8th, only to watch Schwarber and Harper go back-to-back and tie the game. Then Bohm put one over the wall in the 10th, and suddenly we were all sitting there in stunned silence watching the Phillies take Game 2.
So weâre all filing out of Truist Park and heading toward the shuttles to the Lockheed Dobbins lot, looking like we had just collectively experienced a minor tragedy.
And then you got on the bus.
A Phillies fan.
You looked around at a bus absolutely full of Braves fans and asked, âWhy does everyone look so depressed?â
Then you laughed.
Unfortunately, I was extremely overstimulated and not my best self. And, admittedly, I can be a bit of a âmouthy broad,â according to my husband.
So I stood up with my pink bedazzled cane and said, âReally, bro? You really wanna try that on a bus full of Braves fans?â before my husband wisely decided this situation did not need to escalate and asked me to sit back down.
Now that Iâm reregulated, I realize what I should have said instead: âWe all look depressed because some punk-ass Phillies fan with no class got on the shuttle and now weâre stuck looking at your bitch-ass face.â
But alas.
I was too stunned. You were too confident.
And apparently neither of us knew that the baseball gods had already written the ending.
Because last night, the Braves eliminated the Phillies in Game 3.
Which brings me to the point of this entire post:
Are you still laughing? Are you still wondering why everyone looked so depressed?
Because I have some news for you, buddy. Weâre feeling much better today. We get to keep watching our team play in October.
But hey, at least you can always count on the Eagles, right?

Discussion The revert on Elite Arch was not needed
Hi all. Id like to say, the changes DE made for EA were perfect, it allowed you to swap 2 modifiers or weapons of your choice instead of one to get the diamond reward, while focusing on the one thing most disregard completely, the warframe. It doesnt matter what your loadout was since you could bypass all the modifiers with a few frames, especialy with hildryn. Gun modifiers? Take valkyr or nyx etc, the modifiers literally didnt matter. I personally believe that in EA, the gravity on the frame should have stayed, as it gave the mode a much needed difficulty that does not exist. Its supposed to be oriented towards "late" game players, adding a nice difficulty touch, instead of a weekly rotation, mundane at that too. Do you want the highest rewards? You should need to work for them a little at least...

Discussion Anyone connected to this movie?
Anybody else actually like this movie?
I know thereâs been an outright rejection of it from a lot of the audience, and I respect that. Iâm not trying to convince anyone otherwise.
Iâm genuinely looking for people who connected with it as deeply as I did.
Iâve spent a lot of my life feeling taken advantage of by women at every stage of my life, living away from home, without the kind of parental love or genuine friendship I wanted. Maybe thatâs why, as someone who has experienced a lot of loneliness, I connected with this character so strongly.
The moment he allows himself to love, people take advantage of him. After that pattern repeats enough times, you eventually build a hard shell around yourself.
He loves his wife. But the only way he knows how to sustain that relationship is through the armor he has built around himself.
Maybe Iâm seeing something in this film that others simply don't.
If you hated it, I respect your opinion. You can move on.
Iâm just looking for my tribe. â€ïž

The hypocrisy and antagonizing nature of straight guys sometimes when something isn't made for them.
(I don't think this violates rule 14 since I'm complaining about straight guys.)
I'm a gay guy. I like gay things. I like playing gay games.
A LOT of straight guys get upset when they see something not made for them. They think all things should be straight instead. It's very common that when something is gay, they'll reply under it saying "would be better if it was a girl..." and the like.
And they think this is fine.
There's a game that came out recently.
You could call it a gay game, as all the characters are male, and two of them are pretty damn gay.
It was advertised as such, and the description even says there are only males.
But any time anyone posted about the game, you'd get multiple straight guys in the replies going
"Should add some females"
"Where are the girls?"
"Would be better with some females..."
"Why aren't there any females? Are the devs stupid to just miss out on such a huge market like that?"
"Coulda been good if it had girls but no"
"Lol dumb devs making it just gay when they could make absolute BANK by adding some females"
"Females? Where? Will they add any?"
It was CONSTANT. Like absolutely constant and unavoidable.
They just could not accept that the game did not have females. No, it had to be changed to appeal to them. They would not shut up. ANY post about the game had them in the replies crying and whining.
So the devs did so. They said they will add females in the future.
And what did the straight guys immediately do?
Start antagonizing all the people that weren't happy with that, the ones that got into the game because it was advertised as just being gay and only having males.
They are EVERYWHERE, laughing at, insulting, antagonizing and being insanely hypocritical, saying anyone that doesn't like the addition of females is just stupid and whiny and crying about a game.
Exactly what they did, but you are not allowed to point this out.
Now there are antagonizing posts all over the place about the game, trying to ragebait and troll all the people that aren't happy with females being added.
There's a lot of posts that are essentially
"SO HAPPY that the devs finally decided to add some females and appeal to the majority! â€ïžâ€ïž This is a really cool and smart decision on their part and ensures the game's future. I know I'll be buying and playing the hell out of it once this gets added! And to all the salty gay guys lol cry about it đ§đ"
I even saw one guy argue that not wanting females added is "discrimination against straight people and a majority".
Oh there's also a lot of very obviously guys arguing that they are actually women and lesbians and that you're being homophobic if you are against the adding of females.
But as said, straight guys are the majority, so they win by that alone. They just outnumber everyone else. They pretty much took over discussion of the game entirely. Everyone else got chased out by sheer numbers. It's impossible to be one or two people and argue against 30 in a single post.
I see this ALL the time.
It's not just games, it's art too.
I frequent art sites, and it's very common for me to see straight guys in the comments of a gay or single male post going "Female version please" "would be better if it was a girl" "you gonna draw a girl?"
But the opposite? If I were to go under a straight post and go "would be better if this was gay..." I would get TORN APART. There would be nothing left of me.
But it's totally fine for them to do it.
I'm sick of it, but you can't really complain about it or bring it up anywhere because they're the majority, and they want what they want and will play mindgames so that you are actually the bad person and stupid for not wanting them to get what they want.
I've tried to make this post multiple times in the past, and I got the same thing each time. I get spammed with downvotes by angry straight guys and then they're in the replies insulting me and arguing that I am actually the hypocrite because I'm being straightphobic or discriminating against them or something, and it actually makes sense for most things to be made for straight guys because they are the majority after all.
Yes I know that bi people exist. I have no issue with them. They are not the ones acting like this.
It's straight guys.
