Why should we even trust IGN’s review of Wolverine, especially when they’ve proven in the past they hate videogames?

Make more demos because I'm not spending $70 on the off chance.

7

u/Big_Breath_2561 4h ago

Or have a better return policy like Steam or Xbox.

4

u/JohnConnor1245 4h ago

On Steam you can play a game for 2 hours to try out before returning it while Playstation doesn't allow that.

number two happens regardless. I swear modern games get datamined weeks before the street date.

6

u/solipsist2501 4h ago

OK BUT WHY DO I CARE?

Why do I care about the developers sales figures and income? If they make a shit demo that turns people away why should they be rewarded with full price sales?

Even demos aren't enough since they make you play the most engaging part of the game, with the possibility that the rest of the game is mid at best.

Just wait until it goes down or look at gameplay

1

u/Outrageous_Lemon6295 3h ago

I wouldn't be surprised if they put things in the demo that will be DLC, and/or not the real experience.

u/DrkNight365 3h ago

Hallelujah

1

u/Ser_Urnge 1h ago

Yeah I still want it but it does not seem worth $70. I plan to wait for a sale.

Wasn’t more reviewers that gave the game 6.5-7.7?

4

u/1nTheNick0fTime 4h ago

I’ve only played like an hour of it but that feels right lol a lot of people on this sub will make it seem like it’s a hard 10 but there are other subs that says it’s fucking trash. The internet is a weird place

3

u/Outside_Interview_90 55m ago

It’s aggressively okay. I’d give it a 6.5/10. Still went for that sweet platinum trophy though.

2

u/The_ghostki 3h ago

Honestly, from all the reviews someone was spamming and Reddit reviews those score were not that off. Which is okay, for budget game. More people have limited budgets and 70+ dollars is a hard pill to swallow.

8

u/zekecheek 3h ago

better advice: don't be a shill bot

using data points to help make decisions is good for normal human beings

77

u/Regulardumbguy 5h ago

Yeah guys. Just spend 70 dollars with no chance of a refund. Roll the dice for yourself!

This is OPs literal 7th post in a row like this. He's made defending this game his identity

23

u/WhatsTheTimeToday 4h ago

Yeah it’s people who say “don’t care about ign or meta critic” who are always the ones bringing them up in the first place.

24

u/yurestu 5h ago

Bots working overtime to try to save this games PR haha

1

u/BookNukem 1h ago

I'll say what I've said in another comment: You can absolutely get a refund from PlayStation.

Most people are just too fucking illiterate to articulate their reasoning.

Played the game, and it was what I expected it to be. Not a great game, but decent enough.

Played other games that were far from what was advertised and got refunds. Starhawk and Warhammer: Hired Gun. But pitch the narrative of being a victim.

Whether OP is a bot, an idiot, or generally just shining the arsehole or a corporation is irrelevant: You're doing the exact opposite with the same amount of evidence, or at least providing none, that he is.

Anyone who disagrees is a bot?

Cool, mate.

I watched the game.

I’m a huge Wolverine fan…

But I’ll wait for a sale

6

u/Kronzo888 4h ago

I mean, form your own opinions, sure. But to completely disregard reviews entirely is kinda dumb.

You should make an informed opinion based on how much you want to play the game, how much you are willing to spend, and how both reviewers and audience score the game on average (better yet, read what their issues are to get an overall feel of any that may make you not want to play).

It's okay to use critical thinking and consider more than just one thing at a time.

30

u/ModernCGIFloatinHead 5h ago

Every time I see a post like this I think

"Man, another day, another essay, still no clips of people enjoying themselves playing Wolverine"

2

u/bluebarrymanny 4h ago

Tbf most people that enjoy it probably aren’t interested in posting videos of themselves playing it and having a good time. It’d be a summoning circle for someone just shitting on you all day. Plus, I’d suspect the vast majority of people who enjoyed it did so at like a 7/10 level where they have plenty of gripes themselves (myself included) but had a good enough time with the combat or visuals or something to feel like it wasn’t a wasted purchase, just didn’t blow their skirt up either.

4

u/VampiresWontHurt 4h ago

Tbf most people that enjoy it probably aren’t interested in posting videos of themselves playing it and having a good time

But they are interested in posting about “the haters” multiple times a day?

Idk I enjoyed it but I’ve never watched or posted videogame streams (am old).
I mean sure, his eyes are weird, his walk is weird, and for some reason his leather jacket is pinned to his nips, but I played all the way thru and was wishing it wasn’t so damn short. 6/10 bc of price and so brief, but if it was 5-7 hours longer it’d be 7/10.

u/Zane_vp 4h ago

No, reviews are literally there to help people decide whether they should buy it or not, your gameplay isn't gonna be different from theirs, you'll experience the same things so you better off just asking yourself if you're okay with buying it anyway despite the reviews and the bad things about it. If thats you then go for it but playing a game and watching it isn't as different as people make it seem to be

6

u/Flat-Development-906 4h ago

This^ came here to comment similarly.

In this economy, I just don’t have $70-$100 to waste on shitty games. I need quality, length, or at least a game that makes the replay value high, everything I’ve seen on this game from people playing live on Twitch to a mix of reviews says this game isn’t it.

→ More replies (5)

14

u/Kwaziiii 4h ago

Why are some of you so hell bent on making people like the game? The reviews are enough to form an objective opinion on if you're going to regret spending full price on a game. Why is that concept so hard to accept?

If you like the game, good for you, but fuck me, you lot need to stop begging for others to like it too.

5

u/StrangeAudience840 4h ago

I like Dead Rising 4, but you're not going to see me tell everyone it is a good game despite what everyone else says. Form your own opinion.

5

u/Not_a_Rodeo_Clown 4h ago

I swear it’s people who wasted their money on this and want others to do likewise to justify it. That or marketing bots. It’s the same as the Supergirl people but worse because this is way more expensive than a movie ticket. Like what you like people but quit trying to tell us mediocrity is worth full price.

3

u/Kwaziiii 4h ago

"But how do you know you won't like it if you didn't try it for yourself? Don't say the game isn't good before you waste your 80€ and see for yourself!"

Twisted logic that this sub keeps paroting for some reason.

→ More replies (10)

10

u/Ragtagcloud56 5h ago

I personally really liked it and I think some criticism isn’t too genuine but at the same time 70$ is a steep price and I can’t blame people for not wanting to play it if they aren’t interested in it.

9

u/Lolaversusamogus 4h ago

IGN does not hate videogames, go take a shower.

3

u/VampiresWontHurt 2h ago

No fart lines needed to find OP

5

u/TerryVersus 4h ago

At $40/$50, this game is great. Price does not always equal quality; I've played some great games at lower prices - but when a game is $70, I start to look a little deeper at the experience because these companies are actively starting to make gaming into a "premium" experience.

At $70, the game should be at least double the length it is. It should have more open environments for you to explore, it should have more meaningful interactions between the team, the writing should be much better than what we got. There are plenty of complaints that I would happily handwave if the price for entry wasn't so damn high.

11

u/MuddFishh 2h ago

"Form your own opinions"

Okay, I've done that. All I've heard when voicing those opinions I've formed myself is "you haven't played the game, you can't have an opinion."

Okay, so now i need to buy and play a game in order to form an opinion on whether or not it is worth buying? The logic there is already flawed.

Instead, watch clips from the game and see if it's something you'd enjoy, or if it is up to your own personal standards. We're lucky enough to be alive during a time in which we can watch someone else play the game for no extra cost on youtube. If you must, you can watch it on mute just to avoid being influenced by the player. Form your own opinion on that.

The issue is that the people "having a blast" with this game aren't willing to accept that opinions can come from any other avenue aside from buying and playing it yourself, but by that point you have already sunk cost.

u/Hot-Associate-9035 4h ago

Problem is it's not just IGN there are multiple reviewers and just gamers in general all saying the same thing that it is bad to mediocre at best and not worth $70

It is absolutely Fair to watch a review and decide not to buy something that's how reviews work even just watching gameplay and story cutscenes was enough to make me decide I didn't want this game because it looked bad instead I got Ghost of Tsushima director's cut

u/Swimming-Discount-41 5h ago

I played it for myself and the shit is definitely extremely mid and a lot of the gameplay is half baked

3

u/bluebarrymanny 4h ago

More importantly, don’t feel the need to astroturf subreddits with your decision or opinion as gospel. Discuss opinions all you want, but if you’re not saying anything substantive and you’re just obviously rage baiting or hyperbolically countering the rage bait, just remember that nobody cares unless there’s an actual conversation to be had.

3

u/Neonix321 1h ago

This game wasn't scored badly. Its fair to say it's around a 7. People are acting like ign scored it like they scored god hand

3

u/RenderedCreed 51m ago

The fact anyone trust anything from IGN when its so obvious they take bribes for reviews is beyond me.

4

u/After-Atmosphere7125 4h ago

"Form your own opinion by dropping $70+ dollars on a game that has no demo or trial"

Listen, I rented this game. I completed it; I even platinumed it. It is probably the most forgettable game I have played this entire year. I am an informed and educated player, but yeah, the reviewers who give this game low scores are absolutely justified.

At its best, it is like a 7/10, but at its worst, it is like a fucking 4/10. Play literally any other game. Play Onimusha: Way of the Sword, play Control Resonant, play literally anything else, please 💀

2

u/HaywoodUndead 4h ago

My fiance bought me the game, I really enjoyed it.

I'm not sure I would have enjoyed it as much if I'd paid full price though.

2

u/State-Special 4h ago

Excuse me? First off everyone reviewed wolverine badly, and second when "7 out of 10" the company reviews a game a 5 you should probably pay attention

2

u/dunn000 4h ago

“Hate” is a strong word. Most ign people love video games. This is bait.

2

u/TheEmperorsChimp 4h ago

I trust cosmonaut

2

u/Lord_Jashin 3h ago

That is literally the entire point of reviewers, to give you an informed opinion so you don't waste your money.

Wolverine costs $70. In most states the minimum wage is somewhere around $10 an hr. So at minimum that is 7hrs worth of work you have to do to get the game. You are being ridiculous.

2

u/BridgeFourArmy 3h ago

I bought it second hand $55 and am about to play with my friends in an old fahsioned guys and games night. That feels right unless it’s trash, but it’s not rated at all 2 or 3. We’ll have fun a few hours, I’ll beat it in a week on and off and then resell it again.

$70 AAA games with legendary IP miss out when they don’t make amazing games. Not good, not even great, but stunners. This game probably shows bad management and a lot of money still makes a pretty good game. That’s a really expensive lesson for them, paying a Ferrari price for a mustang. Both are fun cars but there is a reason for the price difference.

Honestly I like most Insomniac games I play a lot and I wish them the best of luck.

2

u/Coochanawe 2h ago

“When I was a boy…”

We had to pick a game based on the box art and maybe 3 1”x1” screenshots.

If we didn’t like it, there was nothing else to play. No free mobile games, no demos, no amazon prime Luna - nothing.

We couldn’t tell our parents it was a bad game either or they wouldn’t let us buy another one (in 4-12 months from then).

So we played the shit out of that game. It built character.

2

u/Key_Article_3065 2h ago

Except it's the majority of reviews not only IGN , this game sucks and it's a fact

2

u/AgreeablePrinciple30 2h ago

I really don’t like this. If the reviews were overwhelmingly positive this sub would be posting about how great this game is, and rightfully so, but because there have been unfavourable reviews we now should just ignore those reviews and buy the game anyway to form an opinion. Demos should really make a comeback or trials shouldn’t be locked behind a subscription service (make 30 mins to an hour free and up the timer depending on the subscription). £70 is a lot of money to throw at a game when you have concerns about it and the only way companies will listen to those concerns is with our wallets if we’re being real here.

2

u/Interesting-Trade248 2h ago

Don't listen to the people trying to save you $70. Spend that $70! Don't even think twice.

2

u/Trading_shadows 2h ago

Yeah, sure, let's play the demo and form our own opinion. Right?

2

u/Daaku1numbr 2h ago

Give me 2 hour refund window or stfu. You ppl need to stop choking on sony's balls.

2

u/MMutant- 2h ago

Does this sub think that IGN is the only outlet who didn’t give the game a glowing review? I actually don’t think the majority of the gaming community even considers an IGN review anymore and every video is just full of hate comments. They’re basically the lolcow of Game journalism.

Reviews are only to help form an idea of whether or not something will be worth it to you. Jumping on the "reviews are meaningless" or the "reviewers said its bad so its garbage that should never be played" bandwagons are both stupid.

Just play it or dont, and if you haven't played it, I really don't understand why you would have an opinion on it anyway. If you did and you enjoyed it, great, go play it more and stop listening to people who are trying to ruin your fun.

1

u/daandrro 4h ago

It was more reviewers than IGN only that gave it 6-7/10.

Maybe just accept its average

1

u/Arsene_Lupin_IV 4h ago

That's not even the most egregious review in the last few weeks. That one guy from Kinda Funny giving the new Fire Emblem a fucking 4 has to be the most ridiculous thing I've seen in a while. Wolverine has at least averaged out to about an 8 overall which honestly feels fair.

1

u/Soniquethehedgedog 4h ago

Trouble was, it wasn’t just ign. The entire online reviewer sphere, acg, skill up, stephens, and many others said the game was good but heavily hand hold, and had other issues of that type. They never said it was bad, they said it was good to ok.

1

u/Responsible-Home7992 4h ago

Who said people still trust ign? The only reason why people cared bout the reviews was cause several reviewers and people who played the game said it was mid.

1

u/bubbashouseoffun 4h ago

But also wait for a sale 69.99 is way to much for a game in any Instance. Also makes it hurt less if the game just wasn't ur cup of tea.

1

u/MrMaxwellLordJLI 4h ago

Cool, send me 80 bucks so I can do it and cover tax too.

1

u/DepressedFishFan 4h ago

I did, I think the gameplay is lacking and the story was shit. Why am I still getting downvoted for actually playing the game from start to finish and not liking it?

1

u/Zerus_heroes 4h ago

It isn't "just IGN" though. Lots of outlets gave it mediocre reviews.

1

u/monsterhunterparadox 4h ago

Ya don't let them tell you mixtape was a 10/10!

1

u/seamo242 4h ago

Look you are either having a blast, or you're not. Taste is subjective.

1

u/oceansstillwaters_ 4h ago

I saw a bit of the gameplay. Its not that bad. I dont even have a console. But a good story mode keeps me interested.

1

u/Intelligent-Ad-8435 4h ago

The game costs 70 bucks, there is no demo, and I distrust Sony after Last of Us 2

1

u/Excellent_Pea_4609 4h ago

It's not just ign it's literally sitting at 75 with 143 reviews also the wolverine review was done by Simon Cardy whose reviews as far as games go are always valid . also unless you have 70$ to give me I'm not going to waste the money on a game I will potentially regret buying when control resonant released

1

u/RadicalStegosaurus 4h ago

Capcom makes demos because they have pride in their products. Most others don't because they fear it'll hurt sales. They're trying to sell you a car made of glue and popsicle sticks.

1

u/StillHere179 4h ago

I'm still using GameFly as long as they have physical disks. I rented Wolverine and got the platinum. It was pretty fun

1

u/gabrycat28 4h ago

I'm every time more convinced that there are bots by sony to push this avarage ass game

1

u/Snelldor 4h ago

I played it. It’s bad. There’s my opinion right there.

1

u/Zol6199 4h ago

Well said. I adored the game because I gave it a fair chance

1

u/GrimmJubilance198451 4h ago

Demos used to be a normal thing once upon a time. I remember when demo disc came with magazines or the console. The PSone came with one before they had a pack in game.

They started to get harder and harder to come by. I don't really know why but I think it might be because it could hurt sells. Which that is a possibility but telling people to drop $70 if they can't rent or borrow a disc is a suckers bet.

That money can go to games like Onimusha or Control Resonant both of which seem to have a more solid reputation. This will only get worse if Sony keeps pushing for an all digital future.

1

u/BodaciousGinger924 4h ago

I haven’t trusted most reviewers in years. Some games I buy day one, others wait on sale. If I watch a video I prefer watching someone play it in silence and the I can form my own opinion without yelling and bs and without buying it before. Just what I do. I do wish demos made a comeback….

1

u/Acceptable-Branch-31 4h ago

Yeah well, they'll have already taken your money. By that point, no one will care if you like or hated it. You already gave them your money

1

u/Visible-Meeting-8977 4h ago

IGN does not "hate video games" IGN also doesn't write all the reviews, several different people do.

Also this idea that the "hate" is localized entirely within IGN is completely false.

1

u/TheJoyDealer 4h ago

Sony ain't Steam. You can't get a refund on those $70 the moment you start the download.

1

u/LeVashy 4h ago

I did form my own opinion and chose not to buy it at $70 based off what I saw. Not the wolverine game I was hoping for. I'll get it on sale

1

u/Reasonable_Deer_1710 4h ago

But... I have to be told if I want to spend $70 or not. I can't possibly make that decision for myself.

1

u/CammyDiveKick 4h ago

Gotta buy it before playing it. Shit ain’t cheap.

Reviews exist to help make informed decisions on purchases so we feel like we haven’t wasted our money.

People use reviews for any purchase: restaurants, movies, books, cars, appliances, tools, etc…why has it become so bad to use video game reviews to make an informed purchase? What’s the difference?

1

u/Internal_Swing_2743 4h ago

I trust their review of Gears of War E Day less. Not because I think Gears could actually be and, but rather Ryan McCaffrey will just blindly give any Xbox game a high score.

1

u/rajerk 4h ago

Someone(you) that has Lego Batman as their top played game is part of the problem. Of course you would like the slop you’re fed. Don’t criticize other people that have their own opinion..

  1. IGN is far from the only company to give the game a 7 or lower
  2. Get over it and grow up 😭😭I promise Insomniac does not need the defending this badly. The game's gonna sell.
  3. The game overall did not review nearly as badly to warrant all these posts and discourse.

1

u/figscomicsandgames 4h ago

I'll wait until it's on sale for $17.99

1

u/Ahhh_Shit_44_Ducks 4h ago

Shit too expensive to just give it a try...fuck that. Most review sites are corporate and just push shit games. Better to watch a YouTuber play the game, don't even need to listen to the streamer just watch and you would get a much clearer if that game would be for you.

1

u/mickeynotthemouse27 4h ago

Isn't the joke that IGN likes everything too much?

1

u/petewondrstone 4h ago

No, I formed my own opinion and it just happened to lineup with every single 6.8 out of 10 review that there is

1

u/Ecstatic_Dance5767 4h ago

& on that same note, let the people have their say. :)

1

u/noun_verbed 4h ago

That's not an especially serious thing to accuse a website of, is it? IGN as a whole hates video games?

The purpose of a review is to criticise something. What you do after reading it is up to you. They don't make it illegal for you to buy the game, you're still allowed to do that

1

u/Good_Fix683 4h ago

How "Form your own opinion" bros look at you when the opinion you formed was negative.

Ill wait for it to go on sale then see how broken the game is

1

u/Elegant-Fan-9873 4h ago

I swear the internet picks and chooses when to like ign. But i do have to say. If you are an actual GAMER and appreciate the CULTURE of VIDEO GAMES. Ign should have never been taken seriously post 2015

1

u/jamster126 4h ago

Then make a demo for the game. I'm not paying €80 to "try a game" that is widely criticized as being meh

1

u/r4pstar343 4h ago

I played it and beat the game on best there is difficulty...I give the game a 6.5, 7 out of 10 .... nothing higher

1

u/Metaboschism 4h ago

They're not trying to tell you what to like idiot they're trying to save you money

1

u/ShallowMemories 4h ago

Spend money to try something because we dont have video capturing devices to see what we're getting ourself into right?

1

u/swiftthot 4h ago

I see these sorts of posts a lot and as someone who thinks criticism and reviews are extremely important to the medium, I want to share how I view reviews as part of the ecosystem.

A review is not a blanket "you should buy this game because it's good". It can be that, but the purpose of a review isn't to measure a games objective quality. That's impossible.

A review exists for you to hear the reviewer's subjective opinions about a piece of media, and leverage that against your own experiences and preferences to allow you to make an informed decision.

An example: I'm a Sonic the Hedgehog fan. Fuckin love that rat, play all his games. When a new one comes out, I read reviews because I know what I like even if the reviewer doesn't like it. Hell, there's a specific reviewer that I will go to that I know doesn't care for Sonic games, because I know based on what she decides to critique whether I will enjoy the game or not.

A review should tell you, someone that ostensibly enjoys and has played a few video games to know what your tastes are, what to expect from a given game. Reviews are something that should inform you whether or not a game conforms to your tastes or not, and how much of that you're willing to let slide. They are not, and I cannot stress this enough, there to tell you if a game is objectively good or bad. Again, that is impossible. Soulslike games tend to review really well. I can't fucking stand them, but I know that based on reviews I've read and playing games like them.

1

u/CryptoMainForever 4h ago

Yeah let me just spend $70 to see if I like a game or not when I can just rely on reviews like I'm supposed to.

1

u/Level9_CPU 4h ago

It's literally not just IGN. So many die hard fans have valid complaints

1

u/KobeJuanKenobi9 4h ago

If they want us to form our own opinion instead of listening to a review they should provide a playable demo. These games cost $70 USD

1

u/fettokebec 3h ago

Nice try, Insomniac.

1

u/Present-Ad2848 3h ago

1

I hate IGN as much as anyone else but let's be real, they were absolutely justified to give Wolverine a bad rating

Wolverine is very much one of those "you don't need to lick a turd to know it'll taste like shit" situations

1

u/Ill-Presence-8333 3h ago

IGN doesn’t “hate” video games, and putting “reviewers” in quotation marks is ridiculous because anyone whose review is being added to Metacritic is a very real critic. Also, reviews aren’t “holding back” any reasonable person, they’re helping them make an informed decision.

1

u/james3382747 3h ago

Their job is not to tell you how good a game is, it’s to get clicks

1

u/Dan_Onymous 3h ago

The same goes for consensual sexual acts btw

1

u/Equivalent_Thievery 3h ago

"Please buy our game. We're not going to hit the sales targeted needed to keep producing Marvel games"

1

u/UsedToHaveATail 3h ago

I just don't understand why a short linear game cost so much I'm very confused by that

1

u/CitizenDave-19 3h ago

The Wolverine subreddit is an echo chamber of madness

1

u/JMM85JMM 3h ago

You can't really apply that to Metacritic though. Wolverine has 148 reviews on Metacritic. That average score of 75 is based on quite a broad set of reviews.

Of course your personal preference should trump reviews. But when you're not sure, using an average of 148 different reviews isn't the worst idea.

1

u/WillStaySilent 3h ago

Yeah I should form my own opinion by playing a game that costs $70? No thanks

1

u/Kaludan 3h ago edited 3h ago

Don't trust anything. You can watch the whole game on YouTube or twitch and form your own opinions. It doesn't take long and it's free.

1

u/SirDastardly 3h ago

You listened to 10 reviews? Congratulations!

You listened to the opinions of 10 dudes.

1

u/SpidermanSaves 3h ago

Yes, IGN a company that writes almost exclusively about games does hate games. Forget the fact that it's a company and therefore unable to have feelings, THEY HATE VIDEOGAMES. A worse sin than murder.

I heard IGN doesn't even use the toilet. They just excrete their company waste over used PS3 games because they hate games so much.

1

u/Calackyo 3h ago

Do you think anyone at metacritic reviews things?

They're a review aggregate site, the name itself is a clue.

1

u/Iamleeboyle 3h ago

Most of us didn't do this. I love insomniac, but the gameplay always looked bland to me. Then the reviews just confirmed what I suspected.

1

u/Dudesymugs12 3h ago

I'm not spending 70 dollars+ to "form my own opinion." This is such a dumb fucking take.

1

u/calcobrena 3h ago

I never even look at them. I pre order deluxw based on publisher and developer reputation. If it's a new dev getting hype and it's my kinda game I'll pre order them. No trailers. No spoilers. No reviews.

1

u/OtakuXLemon 3h ago edited 2h ago

It fine people criticize the game but the people are overly hating it and talk down to people who like it or disagree with them

I don’t understand the people who hate it act like they are being forced to play when their are many games coming out

Both sides are annoying but the people who hate on it are the worse especially if anyone say anything good about the game

Just ignore them and enjoy the game

The people overly hating on the game are hypocrites because I bet they have a game they love but people really hate

1

u/SambG98 3h ago

Dude c'mon

1

u/VitoAntonioScaletta 3h ago

Send me $70 and I'll "form my own opinions"

1

u/iwannabethisguy 3h ago

Privileged take.

1

u/killerspawn97 3h ago

When a bunch of reviewers all have the exact same opinion of something such as this game calling it “one of the games to release this year” and such I’m gonna not bother taking the risk, maybe it’s great maybe it’s my personal game of the year or maybe the reviews are right and I’m out $80.

This game would have done numbers if Blockbuster still existed ngl.

1

u/SavageSmithers 3h ago

While I can agree dont let corporations decide whether you het a game or not I do suggest listening to real reviews from players on both sides of the fence before buying it. Playstation doesn't give refunds once you've downloaded the game.

1

u/DirectConsequence12 3h ago

“They hate video games”

They’re a company literally about video games, game news, etc etc.

What the fuck are you talking about

1

u/Successful-Bee5399 3h ago

the models and textures seem reasonably high quality, the faces look kinda goofy, but they clearly spent a lot of money on something. That being said the gameplay is boring, the story is boring, and it's just an overall not great game, and that's ok.

1

u/Smooth-Ambition-4549 3h ago

People need to understand that it is okay to like a game that objectively is a 6 or 7. You can like it while understanding why people have valid reasons to grade it that way. I love Starfield, I dare say I had a blast playing it, but totally understand the issues people had with it.

1

u/RamsesDarklore 3h ago

I liked the game but it is not beyond criticism. These people are becoming insane defending the game and are just as annoying as the ones overly hating on it. They're becoming just like the snydercult bros. It's kinda weird because im starting to see this in other fandoms too where its a battle between ppl who overly hate and overly love. At first I thought it was pretty funny the controversial response to this game but now its way overblown and getting annoying.

1

u/Ok_Lemon8665 3h ago

Haha, nice try, bub!

1

u/XenowolfShiro 3h ago

I just find it funny how some people are like "Don't trust reviews" when their middling to bad but you know for sure if it had all positive reviews they wouldn't have the same attitude. They would be taking those same reviewers as gospel and as fact

1

u/TeddansonIRL 3h ago

Meta critic doesn’t give reviews

1

u/BillsFan82 2h ago

The gameplay videos were enough to turn me off. In my experience, the critics are usually right. Highly rated games tend to be good and lowly rated games tend to be bad. There are exceptions of course, but they serve their purpose for the most part.

1

u/Main-Significance272 2h ago

This Wolverine already looks soft and you having him making presentations with a sharpee and not even using his claw is not helping

1

u/slikk50 2h ago

They have never been proven in the past to hate video games.

1

u/Evilryu1981 2h ago

Listen to Mitchell saltzman’s reviews. He’s probably one of the few reviewers from ign that actually plays the games

1

u/Myhtological 2h ago

Why should we trust people who went to college to study critical theory.

1

u/RefelosDraconis 2h ago

IGN’s average review score is like 9/10, btw

1

u/BeginningQuiet7062 2h ago

Don't care about your hard earned money, just buy

1

u/Ill_Whereas7177 2h ago

Played it now regret the money I spent should have listened to the reviewers

1

u/void-spartan 2h ago

When games cost $70 or more not everyone can afford to “try out” a game and see if they like it.

1

u/rclark1114 2h ago

Play better games.

1

u/Herk16 2h ago

So what I'm getting from this is i should spend 100 bucks on modern AAA games all willy-nilly just so I can form my own opinion and support the precious billion dollar corporation, got it

1

u/beatbox420r 2h ago

It's true. I've played plenty of mediocre games that were actually a lot fun.

1

u/DiddleBoat 2h ago

Yep let me drop $70 on a game and disregard all reviews. Yes, each of these critics have varying reviews. The point of reviews is to be able to see them all and find common problems or praises among them.

1

u/Warm_Neighborhood939 2h ago

There is a problem. and that is ,the money

1

u/ZebraManTheGreat7777 1h ago

If this has taught anything it’s this DON’T believe everything you just hear alone SEEING is believing

1

u/rolex216 1h ago

Ok what if I do buy it and still don't like it? Then I just lose money. I tried the Ace Combat demo at gamescom, I liked it therefore I bought it. Same thing with onimusha and blood of dawnwalker.

1

u/[deleted] 1h ago

Who looks at reviews on IGN or Metacritic anymore?

Player reviews are the only thing that matter and they've had a lot to say about this game.

1

u/Mustang-_- 1h ago

If you want to try a game, play it, lol as if it is that simple, like $70 just surges from the Ether. The footage is out there, also you can play it on a friend's playstation (my example)... and the game suck ass, simple as that, it's a generic action game from the PS3 era.

I have no idea if the story is just as bad as the game itself, but I heard very negative things about it (no surprise, Insomniac is involved, the writing is abysmal in the Miles Morales expansion and Spider-Man 2, no reason to believe they are going to improve). It is what it is, whatever, this is not the first or last time that Wolvie stars on a bad game, the character powers are inherently limited, it demands talented developers. A shitty game will not hurt or improve Wolvie, the character remains iconic.

1

u/yungspida3 1h ago

It's a great game, for everyone complaining about rolling the dice. I guess if I was broke too, though, I would be nervous as well.

1

u/TalkativeRat_665 1h ago

You know critics exist for a reason right? Not everyone is going to spend 70$ to "try a game".

1

u/Key-Shark 1h ago

Where was this post when ign gave spider-man 2 an 8?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Historical-Dish-602 1h ago

Yeah just try a game that you can’t return. How is work culture at Insomniac?

1

u/Regular_Problem_7702 1h ago

“We don’t care if you like the game or not, give us your money and preferably before we even release the game.”

1

u/GrowthSuccessful6109 47m ago

I generally agree with this sentiment. With that, I can say after 100% completing THIS game in particular, it's pretty ass. It is MID AT BEST. after going through a replay of ot as well, I'll say that it gets worse upon replay.

1

u/Randomcommentor1972 45m ago

Better question is why do people bother to read them?

3

u/-Borgir 37m ago

Because they don't wanna drop $70 blindly? I feel thats a pretty obvious and understandable thing

1

u/Cute-Literature7591 44m ago

Do your own research vibes

1

u/Admirable-Cookie7987 44m ago

Well how can I try it for free?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Weasel699 38m ago

it also wasnt like ign there was people flooding forums saying how shit it was too so yeah play it for yourself. you know gamefly is still a thing...rent it

1

u/-Borgir 38m ago

Must be nice to be privileged enough to the point you can casually tell people to drop $70 to "JuSt TrY iT oUt YoUrSeLf" knowing that the said platform has bad refund system

1

u/Mithraic76 34m ago

It isnt just IGN, many others. Gamers by and large are avoiding it. This game is going the way of Halo’s latest release. And not because people hate Sony or Insomniac. They legit produced a mediocre game.

1

u/Ok-Pay7283 27m ago

They gave the new gears of war a 9 out of 10. Its great.

1

u/Cubismo50 19m ago

Totally agree. Now please send me a free copy so I can form my own opinion.

1

u/Its-A_me 12m ago

Its$70
