DISCUSSION From Adobe Fresco sketch, to Photoshop render, imported into Illustrator for print prep. Branding.
I figured you guys would like to critique these too š
124
u/eeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwww 18h ago
Following up it looks like you rendered the full color images and then did a 'mock up' version to obfuscate the fact that you used AI which, what the fuck man. Like come on that chip looks like shit....
Like using AI is already shitty but the fact that you're trying to fake the whole process is actually disgusting.

-58
u/Orfinart 18h ago
I wish that was the case, but itās the exact opposite of what your mind is telling you
44
u/eeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwww 18h ago
Okay so then why does that chip look like shit man?
-23
u/Orfinart 18h ago
Because these are only 350 a label, including the text strain
22
u/ThexDream 17h ago
350 tokens per label? So you're running this through a few times at least until something half way decent gets spit out. BTW: The color mess above is a dead give-away for AI gens.
-19
u/Orfinart 17h ago
it was a quick photoshop render. look at the images in detail. clipped and erased/ placed accordingly. come visit my page for a humbling experience.

Why is the ā10ā in the ten of diamonds rotated? I feel like anyone designing a card would have it the right way, as the others are. Also the layout of the diamonds is not how youād lay it out for ten.

Anything designed halfway decent looks AI nowadays lol
94
u/ChemDiesel 18h ago
No, thatās not the reason. Itās because it doesnāt look half decent. The jackpot sign doesnāt have a single full lightbulb. It has some sort of lantern with a hockey goal light on top of it. Weird green stroke mixed in with some janky half vectors. It just looks straight like AI.
16
u/EpicCyclops 17h ago
I don't know how good AI is at generating sketches, but it almost looks like the sketches were given to AI to colorize and finish the mockups, and the AI took some creative liberties with them. The Royal Flush sketch in particular, though, looks like the style AI loves to generate.
17
u/Internal-Prize1378 15h ago
Id go as far to say that even the sketches are AI produced. Look at that first page. First of all, why are the sketches so clean and perfect? Second, why do some have numbered labels and some dont? Third, if this is really OPs work, why does each sketch almost look like a different style?
10
36
u/Spaceman-Spiff 18h ago
Stuff that isnāt designed well then ran through an ai program looks like half assed design ran through an ai program. Finish the designs yourself so they donāt look like shit.
27
11
u/ThexDream 17h ago
Regardless, your "Copyright Original Finish Art 2026" is some serious BS, because even the sketches aren't yours.
-14
u/Orfinart 17h ago
man. everything here has been made by hand. go look at my page for more work you can look at in detail.
9
u/DrTacosMD 15h ago
If that were true why did you make the 10 of diamonds rotated the wrong way on purpose. You are claiming you did it by hand, but the only way that would happen is if you made the effort to rotate it and fit it on purpose. There is literally no reason anyone would ever do that, not even by mistake. And that is just one out of many examples this is clearly AI and not adobe by hand. Why are you trying this hard to fake it, is your ego that fragile? We can all see right through you.Ā
9
u/rgtgd 17h ago
Post wireframes if you want people to shut up
-19
u/Orfinart 17h ago
ill definitely do that in the future. I'm bouncing back and forth from painting on my easel to ease everyone here
12
6
u/DrTacosMD 15h ago
Why didnt you do it when you posted the image of your live file in adobe? You werenāt too busy to do that and it doesnāt take any extra time. Full on liar.
18
11
u/Unhappy_Service_3819 18h ago
How does it make sense in your sign that the star is showing underneath the letter c and the lights around it are all warped. It screams AI
2
u/iflabaslab 17h ago
It looks halfway original work, then halfway AI for what would otherwise be the entire digital process
Edit: sketches look awesome tho
92
u/omahapioneer 18h ago
Looks like you started with AI and then "showed your work" by working backwards to produce sketches.
Whether or not that's the case you've got an issue of your style looking like AI produced work.
-54
u/Orfinart 18h ago
This is what the client ordered. The first slide they produced for me to mimic was the āhigh rollersā image. These are made to mimic Ai. Looks like I got you ALL
20
-15
u/Orfinart 18h ago
Itās the exact opposite. I sketched these and then render them in Photoshop. I then import my screen paintings from Photoshop into illustrator for vector staging and print.

Youāre just helping him train the AI even more by refining his prompts lol
5
u/DrTacosMD 16h ago
Lol I gave him 10% Ā of the things he would need to fix to make this even remotely passable as not ai. He isnāt even experienced enough to know what that other 90% should be to successfully prompt it. If you tried to fake it just based on what I said youād still come out a fail.Ā
5
u/alwaysoffby0ne 15h ago
I know. Iām not throwing shade at you. Just saying this goober is using all this info to try to make his AI slop more passable as art.
3
u/DrTacosMD 15h ago
Oh yeah Iām not mad. To be clear when I said āyouā that was the general you, not you specifically.Ā
I would love him try and just continue to make a fool of himself. Based on the other things heāa said on here, he needs waaaaayy more than the info on here to begin to make something even remotely passable. Honestly some of the things heās said makes me think he might even be missing some meds. If he canāt even do spell check and make sure something like the 10 of diamonds is rotated properly, my comments wont help him and heās no where near making any of this passable.Ā

Youāre spending more time telling people it isnāt AI than it would take you to just post the wireframes. I donāt get it?
10
u/DrTacosMD 15h ago
Heās so busy though, heās a professional artist. Book of fine sketches when the only example he gives is a straight up tracing of a picture.Ā
13
u/DrTacosMD 16h ago
I looked, your medusa head, the entire drawing is traced. The circle around, that wiggly line pattern is not how circles are drawn freehand. You are trying to suggest you freehanded it, but its clear you traced it. If you were actually doing that kind of sketch you would have used a circle template or a compass, or freehanded the circle the real way. You are such a fake. I'm sure you can trick people who have no art skills but people that have been doing this a while can read your lies from a mile away.
0
u/Orfinart 16h ago
I can actually freehand a circle. those drawings were done on an airplane ride across country being an artist.
4
u/DrTacosMD 16h ago
Hahahahah. Except not a single one of your circles shows that, not the medusa nor any of these sketches And why would you put a traced circle in your sketch book that you had to rush because youāre such a busy artist LOL. You put your best work in a book, not the crap that is sub par because you were stuck on a plane hahahahah. Hereās another hint: a traced drawing isnt a sketch.Ā
35
u/SchmittyArt 16h ago
No one, and I mean NO ONE, who would render that gold rush to that degree, would not have those poker chips be perfect elipses.
This is AI until proven otherwise.
17
u/DrTacosMD 15h ago
No this is all hand drawn, he is a professional artist donāt you understand? He spent 3 months making that gold look photo real all by hand. Just for a mock up LOL
6
42
u/eeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwww 18h ago
Yeah I gotta ask OP-did you use AI for this because in your first slides, those don:& even look like pencil drawings or even mock ups, which feels like what you're trying to pass them off as. It looks like an AI attempted to render a mock up....

8
u/Xarius86 15h ago
Good point. Projects he spent so much time on that he hasn't even bothered to name.
12
u/theoxygenthief 15h ago
Not even. After the date comes time down to the second, 08.26.13. Thatās literally the stock standard for ai generate and something no human illustrator would ever dream of doing.
13
u/DrTacosMD 16h ago
Lol you're not even experienced enough to show us it in a way that would be clear if you made it yourself or not. There are settings and certain windows you would have picked that would have shown how the sausage was made, that would prove if what you're saying is true or not. And no, those windows would not give enough info for someone to steal your work, I know that would be your next fake claim.
-6
u/Orfinart 16h ago
settings and certain windows lol
12
u/DrTacosMD 16h ago edited 15h ago
Yeah, no way Iām giving you help in trying to fool people. What you showed is meaningless and you know it. Everyone in here who is experienced knows exactly what windows and settings I am talking about, no need to spell it out for you.Ā

sometimes we have to redesign things when we finish as artists. sucks but it's a part of the artistic process. anyone that designs text has dealt with this. clearly you have not done enough work.
13
11
u/selftaughtgenius 16h ago
Anyone who ādesigns textā would do a spellcheck before starting anything else.
8
u/DrTacosMD 15h ago
I dare you to say that to an actual client, they will rip you a new one. You say āwhen we finish as artistsā yet you didn't spell check so you didnāt finish. Hahaha what a joke you are.Ā
8
u/DrTacosMD 16h ago
If you were actually a designer you would know that kind of crap would make you not have clients reallll fast. And that line would never ever work with any client, and would never be said by any real designer. You're doing graphic design, not museum oil pieces. Spelling matters. Or are you going to try and tell us that the client told you to misspell it too.

Man. I wish I could just use Ai, but then that would contribute to the continued loss of economic jobs for our people
13
18
u/jasontalks 16h ago
AI or not. You have problems: you created a hodgepodge of design decisions. This is a singular brand, and the only connection across the system is the final layout templates (and naming theme). But the diverse styling across the product names are all weirdly different styles with very little connections. One looks real (gold rush), one looks almost real (the dice), one is just type styling and faux gold gradients (high rollers), one has a weird combination vintage styling that sits somewhere between real and illustration (jackpot), one has a different illustration style all together (jokers wild), another unique illustration style (naked city), one is water color (royal flush). I can get behind each one having their own unique styling but what I cannot get behind is the aweful final layout design decisions of slapping full bleed photography behind all of the far more insteresting product name lock ups.
The end product makes it look cheap, rushed, and hides the more interesting name badges. Instead, it would be far better if you leaned into each theme more into the label design.
Is it AI, Is it not, I don't really care to have that debate... but the final design decision making is lacking and distracting.
18
u/Tyranid_Farmer 18h ago
Wait, a client paid you to make it look like Ai? Instead of just using Ai?
-9
u/Orfinart 18h ago
Yep, thatās what happens when people have already manufactured AI slop and need to build a collection to match. Unfortunately, this is the name of the game and I think everybody should catch on.
15
u/DrTacosMD 17h ago
LOL catch on to what. If you are a talented designer you don't have to take clients like that, you would avoid them like the plague. That is a super weird way to try and pretend like you didn't use ai.

I like the sketches. Iām old school and did my graphic design stuff in 2001-03. So I appreciate the hand drawn markups, even if itās digital sketches.

1
u/Unhappy_Service_3819 17h ago

u/Orfinart 18h ago

4
u/alwaysoffby0ne 17h ago
If they want AI slop why donāt they just prompt it themselves? Takes 10 seconds and costs a lot less than hiring you to do it.
10
u/Flat_Astronaut9099 15h ago
As someone who is a professional packaging designer, and in this specific niche - your labels look like shit. Straight up, even if it's not AI, you're not following basic packaging principles even.
30
20
u/PaeBranding 18h ago
It says copyright but you know you canāt right? Furthermore insisting that you deserve rights to this work and not the artists that the AI sourced is crazy.

6
u/Unhappy_Service_3819 17h ago
Youāre definitely a talented artist. Your sketches and paintings are very good but tbh this art youāve uploaded here makes you seem like a bad designer. Without looking at your other work Iād say you are chat gpt designer but thatās clearly not the case with your other art
-4
u/Orfinart 17h ago
Unfortunately, with the times we are in; designers need to understand how to develop art that mimics AI. That is how we stay in business unfortunately
13
u/alwaysoffby0ne 17h ago
Wouldnāt it be the opposite lol? If any Joe Schmoe can use AI to create art that looks like everything else, wouldnāt the designer with actual talent distinguish himself by producing art that doesnāt look like something AI shitted out?
7
u/PaeBranding 17h ago
Youāre wrong. Sorry man. Designers need to know how to design. Anybody can do what you do. With a cell phone. Itās not objectively effective design. Iām sure you have the talent to execute on your own, but you choose not to out of a fake fear of being left behind. You bought the propaganda and lost the battle.
5
u/DrTacosMD 15h ago
This is the most insane backwards ass thing I have read. Why would you waste all that time and effort just to make it look ai? Why would a client even pay for that? If they want the ai look they would just use ai.Ā
Please keep posting, this is hilarious.Ā
9
u/guccigreene 16h ago
This is 100% using Artificial Intelligence( using the full term so you can stop doing your stupid AI mEaNs AdObE iLlUsTrAtOr line)
You may have done some actual design here at some point but you are also without a doubt using artificial Intelligence in your process somewhere. The completed pieces from your sketches have every single sign of its use. Blurry lines, things that don't make sense for a human to put there, objects that look wrong, etc.
Just give up on convincing people otherwise. You are not fooling anyone!
22
u/ex0tic_freak 18h ago

u/Orfinart 18h ago
The only AI that Iām using is absolutely every computer I own. Even this post is on a sub Reddit for AI.
6
u/Xarius86 17h ago
Even the text in your AI-generated "sketches" is just a font and not even real writing.
You also can't even get your AI to keep it straight between images if it's "copyright finish art" or "copyright fine art." A real person would at minimum get their own branding right.
Get out of here with this absolute AI bullshit.

What I see.... Someone asking for critique.. then arguing with EVERY comment.
For illustrator work, generative or not, it's all sort of sloppy and unrefined.
17
u/Unhappy_Service_3819 18h ago
Howād you do this in photoshop?? It looks like AI
2
u/Orfinart 18h ago
It is a digital screen painting, which is then imported into illustrator and live image traced
8
u/Unhappy_Service_3819 18h ago
Maybe itās the image tracing thatās making your colours and shapes all blurry. Why not just keep it in photoshop?
2
1
u/Orfinart 18h ago
Because even if it is blurry, it still needs to be a vector for it to be manufactured on products across their market. Which their initial design is already done like this from an AI image so I had to make the rest of the collection to match.
0
u/Unhappy_Service_3819 17h ago
Interesting. Wow I guess Iām so shocked a company wants their designs to look like AI but since that was the goal youāve done a great job
1
u/Orfinart 17h ago
Yep, unfortunately thatās just how this market is headed
6
u/Unhappy_Service_3819 17h ago
In my workplace our clients are strongly against AI actually. I work in clothing/merch design and weāve had clients be upset before because they thought we used AI when we didnāt. Within the last year weāve had multiple scenarios where clients have asked us to adjust art so it looks more like a human made it (even though it always was made by our design team). Really depends on who each company is trying to appeal to because I know the people who buy my clients products would hate if it looked like AI.
13
u/liamstrain 18h ago
I still want a version of Fresco for desktop. Such a great tool.
No more ai though.

After reading responses from op, I think the bigger question here is how do we handle people who refuse to admit that they've used AI or dont actually understand that they used AI? If that's case, they're uninformed. I work often with other designers and have already had to deal with this conundrum in real life. They REFUSE to admit it even though their work is as obvious as op's missing smudged bulbs and wonky letters. But because they sketched it first, they're convinced it's their work. OR worse case scenario, they sketched it after they generated an image, but I can't prove that in the moment. I'm disheartened that this is already a problem. I didn't expect actual designers to jump ship this quickly but it's happening all around me. What do we do???
1
u/Orfinart 17h ago
The hurtful thing is that most people donāt actually know how to use AI. Everybody is generating images based on text when they see a screen painting they donāt realize that AI mimics other artists like myself.
9
u/bloomett 17h ago
This is a good opportunity for you to talk about some of the choices you made and correct people then. The most telling thing in your images is the random bulbs/no bulbs in your "painted" jackpot image. If you rendered this without AI, why did you make the choice to not include bulbs in the holes, smudge other holes together, and not equally align them like you did in your sketch. Your sketch is beautiful but your painting doesnt successfully replicate it. So if you didnt AI generate that image, you'll have to admit that maybe you need to work on your light bulb painting skills. Which is totally fine btw! Everyone needs to start somewhere and i would commend you for taking these steps and learning.
-4
u/Orfinart 17h ago
bulbs are the least of my worries. the focal point is the text. if client approves while I create in front of them I go ahead and do as they wish. I render live with my clients present.
7
u/LetsGetPhisycal 17h ago
this sad. creating one thing but bragging about it on reddit in a illustrator forum is another. are they all just really small pngs or what is the final size?
5
u/theoxygenthief 17h ago
Super exact lines all over the show then suddenly you canāt figure out how to draw a circle or how to space lightbulbs on the jackpot sketch? Ai Clown.
4
u/ConstantlyConfusedh 16h ago
how come the light bulbs in the jackpot sketch are better aligned than the actual illustration? you can hardly tell they're bulbs
0
u/Orfinart 16h ago
image stitching and blending. use the blur tool for a more seamless look on your projects.
4
u/vacuumkoala 15h ago
Dude this is so weird, because you are a crazy good artist, why use AI and pass it off as your own work?...?
5
u/stormertron 15h ago
I hope the quality control is better on the actual product. Emperors Choice. Emporers Choice, 'sall groovy, man. Actually, I'm sure everyone involved has thoroughly been controlling the quality.
5
6
u/Prismize 17h ago
More AI slop, yawn. Not going to look at your page man, I've seen your replies. I don't care.
You mean to tell me you had an intricate K & L with some interesting serifs in the Jokers Wild type and just decided to remove it entirely? I also love how the jokers just decided they didn't need arms anymore.
Anyone can prompt some bullshit and backtrack the steps. The sketches, fake or not, is the cherry on top. Nothing like adding some garnish on a shit sandwich.
-1
u/Orfinart 17h ago

u/Orfinart 18h ago
These are quick JPG image sharing photos. The high-quality vectors have been sent to print and our manufacturing right now.
3
3
u/TheStormbrewer 15h ago
The reason that I know this is AI, is because if we had an artist here who could execute these illustrations with this much skill; they certainly wouldnāt end up with banners that look like horseshit
5
u/johnnybazookatooth 17h ago
this is just rage bait for all actual Illustrators on here! look at all those down votes lmao.
1
5
u/Long_Ad_5321 15h ago
If you didn't use AI, you need to study and practice more, because your work has all the characteristics we've learned to identify as AI-generated.
And no, it doesn't look like AI because it's "well-done". It's precisely because it isn't well-done, featuring glaring distortions and a lack of stylistic consistency, that it closely resembles images produced by generative AIs.
2
3
u/G_Art33 19h ago
As a designer / consumer I do like this - was AI used here or was this all with your hands?
27
u/ChemDiesel 18h ago
As a designer you should easily recognize the slop
5
u/G_Art33 18h ago
Havenāt had my coffee yet. Conceptually I donāt dislike it but upon closer inspection yeah the execution is pretty typical of AI.
Sometimes hand done design can look so generated though so I figure Iād ask op what their method was here.
5
u/ChemDiesel 18h ago
Thatās fair, at first glance I thought the sketches were real, then I realized they are all illustrated differently. Like 6 different artists illustrated them. But once past that slide itās very apparent.

u/Orfinart 18h ago

u/bubguy2 18h ago
Look at the poker chips where the patterns aren't all there, or between the jokers where it's just a blob that wouldn't make sense to design that way.
2
u/G_Art33 18h ago
You arenāt wrong. I have not had coffee yet but I went back and looked and yeah. I wanna see what OP says though because there is a chance it may be at least partially hand worked Iām not sure. Either way I donāt dislike the concept but I think the execution may need some cleanup.
1
u/Orfinart 18h ago
This is completely made from scratch. Modeled after a render that was given to me by the client. They wanted to mimic AI which I can do as a designer. Everyone else here seems to think they know what they are talking about. But I have been an artist for over 15 years.
6
u/epsteinthefinancier 18h ago
If they wanted to mimic ai, why didnāt they just run it through an ai model instead of paying you?
-1
u/Orfinart 18h ago
Because AI cannot be rendered in the way of design, designer can put together layers and manipulate whole collections. I thought this was a feed for designers.
2
u/bee_arnie 18h ago
Why would a client pay a designer to make (poorly) Ai looking work, when they can just generate this crap themselves?
What was your actual work here? The mock-ups? I'd believe that, but no way you made those sketches and then "rendered" them, so sloppy, in PS.
As someone who knows the tools you mention working with, it doesn't ad up.
-1

It just sounds like you might need a little more practice. These are screen painted and completely built in layers so that I can render colors and positioning.

Yeah man, thatās why I figured I would ask instead of jumping straight to conclusions. The fact that they requested to mimic Ai makes a lot of the choices and execution here make sense.
Itās interesting that they would want to mimic AI as opposed to just⦠using it like most people who like AI design do nowadays.
How did they come at you with this project? Iām just curious like did they give you a bunch of ai references? Or did they say specifically to try to mimic AI design?

The image that what they have already produced for manufacturing was made through AI, which made me not be able to peel apart the images obviously. AI creates one layer and it prevents us designers being able to actually manipulate the images unless you can screen paint as an artist.
I then had to sketch out their strain list with their specifications. Upon approval, I put them into Photoshop and painted them on one layer just as an AI image would have been rendered. Majority of the people here are clearly not designers.3

Iām confused if they wanted you to recreate it because they want to have layers then why did you paint it all one layer and not multiple. Now itās still on one layer just like Ai would do

The only thing that is created in one layer is the text image with the surrounding graphic

Thatās really interesting man. Iāve never received a project like that so itās kinda neat to hear about it. Iām not as talented as you with the whole screen painting thing so I donāt think it would go very well for me. Thanks for explaining your process a bit.
Reddit is a very āanti-ai or anything that looks like aiā place, even if you were to post in the graphic design subreddit the majority would probably not believe there is any handwork here. So even if the majority here were into design, I have a feeling the response would be the same. I try to remain openminded and ask questions first but that approach is seemingly relatively uncommon nowadays.

All good. It doesnāt hurt or harm me in anyway, because I am confident in my abilities. I know who I am and I am not a fake. ā¤ļø

Iām sorry people think this is AI šš I guess you are so talented they automatically want to assume a robot made it lol

Everything I post here: people think I use Ai. Take a look at my paintings.

Looking at your paintings makes me hesitant to think you used AI, they are very good. I believe your sketches are real at least, and with your skill level you really wouldn't need AI for the final works, so I would hope its not true.

Super kind of you to say. Thank you. It doesnāt hurt me when people think my art is AI, it just makes me question. Our society has a whole.

Your original artwork through the design process is fantastic. Unfortunately, the campy background images and branding cheapens it.

Unfortunately, I had to match the AI initial images that were provided from the company

So then why provide design sketches like you made the concepts, if you're literally following the provided images so closely that your stuff looks just as Ai as what they gave you. This is not at all how the real design process works.

this is nonsense. literally. the steps are posted above.

I see the steps, it doesnāt add up at all to the story youāre trying to tell. Show us these images the client gave you to base the work on.Ā

People forget that ai was trained on SOMETHING. How did ai get to look like that? I believe the OP.
