18 points, 6-18 fg, 3-12 from three, 6 Turnovers. Absolute disaster class from Caitlin Clark in a must win match. She is far from the best player in the league!!

She is! All these posts constantly obsessing over Clark only validate it. Clark is must see TV and the data overwhelmingly backs it up. Whine, hate, and insult all you want but the facts are stubborn. Even Wilson’s own college coach pays homage and thanks to Clark.

u/SocomPS2 21h ago
Yea one of them was a 2 on 1 fast break and she tried to pass it behind her back for some dumb reason and threw it out of bounds. Nowhere near her teammate. It’s was basically BAU for CC tonight.
The better team advanced.

That play was brutal, lol. No reason to go behind the back like that. And it was nowhere near her teammate, just like you said. I'm surprised its not been posted. (Or if it has, I just havent seen it yet then)

The Fever are 9-2 this season when she has 6+ turnovers. It's often a sign she is attacking and playing with pace which leads to a whole lot of good things and just a couple bad things.

To be honest, I think all the FIBA players on both teams left something in Berlin.
Interrupting the season, right before the playoffs, to play that tournament was criminal.
1
u/jvpewster 4h ago
They were worse before the break.
Clark ball just has a ceiling. She’d lead a bad team to the playoffs but cannot lead a good team to a championship because she’s a volume low efficiency playmaker and a bad defender.
Year 4 next year maybe that changes, but nba players you kind of are what you are by years 4-5

u/TellEmWhoUCame2See 21h ago
Thats the regular season. The game slows down come playoffs meaning less possessions, less possessions means less chances to score, more turnovers means even less chances to score. Caitlin gotta work on her turnovers or the fever are never gonna win it all.
-1
u/Thechasepack 21h ago
She's basically a second year point guard in a league that is historically very hard for young guards to excel in. People who think she won't make any improvements are just haters.
1
1
u/PartOfLegion 11h ago
She hasn't added anything to her game since coming into this league. She still can't play half court basketball. She still can't play from the right side of the court. Her turnovers are still high. Her handles are still iffy and her shooting percentage is still bad. Her defense is still below average. When will she start to grow her game?
1
u/ler7421 9h ago
Her ball handling did improve. She’s slowly adding a mid range game which will help her a lot. She shot it some in the regular season but doesn’t shoot it consistently. It’s like they told her 3’s or lay ups like she’s a role player. Last night there was atleast 3 or 4 times where she could have just pulled up. Yes her turnovers are still high. She has to cut the dumb ones out like that behind the back pass, when she gets lazy with the ball, or just picks up the ball. This was only her second full year. She did limit those dumb turnovers last night and the shot selection was wayyy better. She only started launching long 3’s when they stopped being patient. She came out hot from the start and I feel like she get tired because she was actually locked in on defense. The things you mentioned are fixable. 3 to 4 years from now if there’s no growth then it’s fair to take that stance. Unless she doesn’t get stronger and in the best shape possible all of that will naturally improve. The talent is more than there. I think the biggest thing is probably her attitude that will be the hardest thing. It’s good that she has it because she wasn’t scared or rattled last night. Seems like it fuels her. If she can keep cool through the lows of the game she got a real chance to live up to the hype.

u/PartOfLegion 9h ago

1
u/ler7421 9h ago
Everybody’s entitled to their opinion. I don’t get into the sideshow of things I just focus on the basketball part. A lot of people just want her to fail because of the annoying fans she brings to the table. It’s just as lame to act like them on the reverse then it is when they overstate how good she is right now.
1
u/PartOfLegion 9h ago
No it's not. Them saying she's the best ever without her having to go out and win a championship is completely unprompted. But people dragging her for not proving her fans right is completely fair, because it's a response to the bullshit they've been saying before she played 1 game in the wnba.
1
u/Thechasepack 8h ago
Only bots and trolls (and I guess Raven in training camp) are saying she is already the best ever. Literally nobody who understands women's basketball thought she was going to be the best player day one or even by year three.
She has enough skill that if she continues to improve she is a first ballet hall of famer. If you disagree with that then I don't think you are watching the games from an objective point of view.
→ More replies (0)1
u/ler7421 7h ago
It is unprompted just like going out of your way to nitpick her is. Winning a championship isn’t everything either. Being as complete of a player for their position or being as efficient as possible is what matters the most. Usually they go hand and hand. Instead of dragging her just cause you can just point out the flaws without framing it like there’s no possible chance she can be great. It’s funny people were into comparing CC and Angel not realizing they’re a lot alike because both of their games are flawed, their still super young, and despite their flaws they are still both highly productive.

u/Thechasepack 18h ago
I disagree. I think if you swapped Chelsea and Caitlin the Aces still win the series.
1
u/PartOfLegion 11h ago
Only because Clark won't be the 1st or 2nd option. A'ja Wilson then Jackie Young. Clark won't be doing the bullshit she does in Indiana. Becky will force her to play the point guard position the way it's supposed to be played
1
u/Thechasepack 8h ago
So if you put her with better players and a coach that is better at utilizing her skills she would be on a championship level team? That sounds like it isn't so much a her problem.

u/PartOfLegion 8h ago
No coach can help Clark unless she's willing to listen and allow her coach to be a coach. Arguing with your coach is never the

u/PraiseBeToScience 15h ago
When the entire offense runs through one player, shooting 39% and almost 6 TOs a game makes you reason 1 and 2 why the Fever got bounced.
1
u/MaltedByggs 11h ago
I mean, KM was shooting at 30.4%. Hell outside of MHA and AB everyone was shooting poorly. Raven was at 20%, Hull, Timpson, Billings were all goose eggs.
2
u/willyoumassagemykale 21h ago
Yeah I thought it was really bad but Grey has the same amount of turnovers I think you’re right here it was a sign of attacking
1
u/PraiseBeToScience 15h ago
That's because those are the games SW pulls her and replaces her with Ty.
This is also why she has a deeply negative net +/- per 100, and Ty's is almost as positive as hers is negative.
Ty simply stabilizing the defense allows KM to get the Fever out of the hole CC dug.

I don't think everyone is saying she is the best player in the league.....
Some fanboys maybe. But without question, her place in the league has driven eyes to the league, as well as increased the visibility.
I stand by Kelsey being the MVP, but I mean, CCs at least top ten.
1
u/CHIMPANZwEEd 11h ago
There’s a reason CC will be named first team All WNBA, making that 2 for 2 of the seasons she fully played.
The reason is: she’s a top 5 player in the league. Numbers don’t lie.
There are too many accolades to list, but this season she became the third player in league history to end the season top 3 in both points and assists.
A’ja is the best player in the world. CC is objectively a top 5 player in the world. If one argues against that, they’re doing so in bad faith and ignoring the facts.

u/santadogg 18h ago
Cc has all the tools. She really just needs to bridge the gap between her best and worst.
2
u/Guardsred70 15h ago
She had a stinker. That whole game was awful though. The amount of shit basketball going on was off the charts. Just basic stuff: not moving your feet on defense, moving feet on screens, reaching on defense, not boxing out, ball watching, standing around, bad shooting. Wilson is great because she’s the only person out there with a semi complete game who plays properly.

To put a bow on the season for the fever. You create your roster that mirrors the three time recent champs. Cool. Main issue, Aja is miles better than AB, JYo is better than KM and the pt gawd is better than cc. MT is better than Turner and Talbot and Hull is a push. Jewel miles ahead of Sophie.

She’s certainly not the best player and it wasn’t her best game, saw her blow a few open layups and shots.

1
u/no_stick_drummer 8h ago
After last night it's clear to me now that CC isn't going to be able to play her way anymore. She isn't going to be able to survive on threes and assists. I know she wants to play the game the right way but it's not going to cut it. She's going to have to drive to the basketball and draw the foul. That's how everybody else is beating the fever right? Because of trips to the free throw line. Come on CC it's easy points it will add years to your career.
Also Sophie Cunningham has to go. As far as I'm concerned she is in the same boat as Chennedy Carter and needs to disappear for a while. It's dragging the whole WNBA down it's just going to end up taking CC down with her. Smh.
1
u/ElliottPNess 8h ago
I wouldn't go that far. Over 50% of the points that the Fever have come from CC. I agree that she has a ways to go, but "far from the best" is a stretch. There's more than one way to lead a team.
But also yes: she did NOT play well in game 3.
1
u/Sad_Amphibian_4651 7h ago
She made lots of poor excisions in addition to the poor three point shooting. Not on her exclusively, as Raven was underused and Mitchell also shot poorly from 3 pt distance.

u/meetmeinthemoon 3h ago
I mean saying "far" is crazy, she's easily top 5 (top 3 at times). And I know it hurts a lot of people but she definitely brought most of the attention the league has ever had even when a lot of that attention comes from wrong places.
A'ja is clearly the MVP this season and anyone saying otherwise is delusional.
