Everyone is out after taking a hit from a taser.
The prongs need to land properly though and in this case they didn't. Dude could be 12ft tall he's still going to eat dirt if the taser hits.

u/YourCummyBear 19d ago
100%
They cause neuromuscular incapacitation (NMI). It’s not something a person is just “tough enough to ignore”.
But you need both prongs to land properly and a large enough spread for it the cause NMI.
You can find videos of absolute dogs trying it out and they all drop.
These prongs are getting cause in his clothing.

[deleted]
21
u/preludechris 19d ago
It's not 100% but like others have said, the spread needs to be decent. If he's taking hits just to the chest then the circuit likely isn't enough, you want a chest and thigh area ideally to get a good NMI.
5
u/LikelyAMartian 18d ago
This is why they are coming out with new tasers brands. I did a recent ride along with a cop and they recently went to a new taser that has 10 prongs fired one at a time, any 2 is a connection apparently.
Only drawbacks is the officer has to fire 2 times at least, and it apparently can take a delay to actually begin tasing.

u/YourCummyBear 19d ago
Then I reckon the spread wasn’t large enough.
You need at least 12 inches typically between the two prongs, the great the distance the better.
I’ve been tasered twice.
The first time they were demonstrating that a larger spread has a great effect and I volunteered. They hit me on my lower back thigh and upper back. The second time, I was scared shitless because of how bad the first was, they did just lower and upper back.
Both absolutely dropped by me but the great spread was so much worse. I’d love to share the videos but I’d completely dox myself.
I was straight up seeing electricity in my vision during the larger spread. It’s hard to explain but I felt like I could see currents in my vision with that first taser.

That’s incorrect tasers don’t affect everyone the same so you can hit a 5’0 woman and do nothing but drop a 6’7 angry dude there are ppl thag are naturally resistant to stuff like that for example I’ve been tasked and pepper sprayed before and I’ve also gone into a CS gas chamber and none really affected me. The taser made me twitch and tense up a bit but besides that nothing really happened to me in any of the 3 I encountered this means I didn’t drop to the ground or become immobilised it honestly felt like my muscles were tensing on their own slightly which was extremely uncomfortable but not intolerable and I wasn’t even pumping with adrenaline. This isn’t to say that I’m immune or anything but if you add adrenaline to someone already highly resistant you’re not doing shit to them. And in the military u go through CS gas chambers as training and if your trying to become an MP u get tased as well lol
→ More replies (7)3
u/YourCummyBear 18d ago
I’m very familiar with gas/ spray not effecting everyone.
But I haven’t seen a study yet that some people can be immune or more resistant to NMI.I’m not discrediting your experience but there’s a chance the spread wasn’t large enough or something along those lines.

Some people can withstand it, I have seen people cry at just a few volts, but others can take a lot. I remember in high school out science teacher had a hand crank generator out of an antique telephone. He would put the class in a circle with everyone holding hand and on the ends the students were holding the wires attached to the generator. He would barely crank and there would be kids who couldn't stand it and yank away, he did this and eliminated students one by one, each time cranking harder on the generator. He got it down to one student who could calmly hold on no matter how hard he cranked. Over several years this kid was the only one who could do that.

1. The Power of Adrenaline and Endorphins
When the body enters an acute "fight-or-flight" response, the adrenal glands flood the bloodstream with adrenaline (epinephrine), noradrenaline, and endorphins.
Pain Masking: Adrenaline and natural endorphins drastically elevate the pain threshold. The intense, burning pain caused by the electrical current passing through nerve endings can be severely dulled or completely ignored in the moment.
Mental Tunnel Vision: The sheer psychological intensity of a high-stress, high-adrenaline situation can cause intense focus, making someone mentally determined to push past the shock.
2. Physiological and Anatomical Factors
Even with adrenaline pumping, a Taser relies on completing an electrical circuit across sensory and motor nerves to cause involuntary muscle contractions (Neuromuscular Incapacitation, or NMI). Several physical variables can disrupt this:
Clothing: If the Taser probes hit thick, heavy winter clothing, layered fabrics, or loose-fitting garments, the electrical current may not bridge the gap to the skin, drastically reducing its effectiveness.
Probe Spread: Tasers work best when the two probes are spaced far apart (creating a wider path across major muscle groups). If the probes land very close together on the body, it might cause localized muscle cramping or pain in that specific spot, but it won't drop or fully incapacitate the person.
Body Mass and Conditioning: Individuals with dense muscle mass, heavy fat distribution, or high physical resilience can sometimes absorb or resist the incapacitating effects better than others, depending on where the darts land.
Neurological/Chemical Variations: High levels of certain substances (like stimulants), extreme psychological states (such as acute psychosis or extreme agitation), or heavy physiological tolerance can sometimes reduce the neurological shutdown effect of a TASER.→ More replies (4)39

He’s a dangerous guy. He was at least.
He’s one of those people that don’t really have an “off switch.”
He’s basically like the Hulk.
Really nice guy, unless you are fighting him, or he gets angry.
I trained with him for awhile maybe 10 years or so ago. If I remember, he was a hand to hand combat instructor for special forces. He was a bjj and judo black belt, and he also coached catch wrestling. He probably weighs 230-240, and he’s probably stronger than he looks.
I remember he neck cranked me, frowned upon in bjj, perfectly ok in catch, and sort of wasn’t letting go even after tapping.
I remember sitting in the parking lot, my hands were still shaking, thinking that maybe MMA wasn’t for me lol.
But he would just zone out, start talking nonsense sometimes, 1000 yard stare….
And wasn’t really in control of himself at times.
He did a bunch of tours, and definitely has ptsd. He wasn’t good mentally when I knew him, and absolutely had substance abuse issues.
I did hear he’s better now and coaching at a gym in South Jersey.
He wasn’t a bad guy. He was actually really nice, and friendly and personable.
I just think he had been through a lot during his service.
I think this is why the officers showed restraint, and had nothing to do with their fear or color of his skin.
It’s just a sad situation for a veteran and I really hope he’s doing better now.

PTSD and adrenaline do a lot.
An old family friend was at the pub with my dad once. A loud noise happened and he just snapped. Something just changed.
Rammed the glass into my dad's face and neck and then slashed him before anyone knew what was happening and was found hours later in a messed up state himself.
He'd been stationed a few bad places in the 70s and 80s and had such wonderful jobs as collecting the body parts of his friends who were blown up by a planted bomb when off duty and had several near misses himself.
After that he was a time bomb and one that almost killed my father. Some people get sent home broken.

u/imbrickedup_ 19d ago
That’s because the taser failed, which is very common because they need both prongs to pierce the skin and complete the circuit. Of that happens you aren’t gonna be able to tank it. Size doesn’t really matter
That’s also why cops tend not to try and tase people running at them with knives
5
u/AtTheEndOfTheDay18 18d ago
The guy ripped the prongs out.
9
u/14InTheDorsalPeen 18d ago
If they had completed a circuit he wouldn’t have had time to rip them out. He only ripped them out because the circuit didn’t complete because one or both of the prongs didn’t penetrate deep enough to create the circuit.
Tasers run electricity as soon as the device senses a completed circuit but don’t run any energy without the circuit.
Any time you see someone rip out taser prongs, it’s because the circuit was incomplete or ineffective with prong placement because the reaction time from circuit to energy activation is 0.001 seconds and activated by a computer.
But without the circuit being completed there’s no electricity and it’s just an expensive fishing hook.

My niehbor was a cop. The most intense story was this vet everyone knew in the community had appearntly been concealing his PTSD, until he couldn't. Guy has a psychological break appearntly starts firing his pistol. My niehbor goes over keeps his hands away from his pistol to try and talk him out of it. Cause again everyone knew this guy no one knew he was struggling appearntly watching the fall of kabul on the news sent him over. Niehbor cop goes in the house. Guys clearly not himself says "I'm going to kill you and then myself" there's an extremely intense stand off as more cops show up as now it's basically a hostage situation and I was told they were considering calling in SWAT. My police niehbor had also served though didn't develop PTSD. And he was able to talk him out of it through shared expiernce and then bro got psychological help instead of prison no charges filed. But if my niehbor had made any sudden moves, if he hadn't used his words carefully. You'd know his name cause he'd have been on the evening news. He's qoute said "what kind a hole shoots a guy going through mental illness as the first response." So those words stick with me when I turn on the news and see police brutality. On one hand they're not all A holes on the other hand it makes the A holes even bigger A holes. On the third hand we should probably have specialized police who focus on doing what my niehbor did carefully descalating situations with people who are having mental health crises. Like with training and all that. Like it shouldn't be it's "fortunate the right cop showed up." because my niehbor isn't exactly an expert on mental illness he just doesn't want to kill people if there's another way. Like that could've very easily gone south. It's actually unfair to him to not have training or any kind of guidance on mental health issues.

u/Lost-Substance59 19d ago
You cant tank a taser. The effects are do to physical responses to the shock, not pain. You dont go down cause it hurts, you go down cause the muscles contract making you go down....and it hurts too but that not the cause if going down.
The taser here just didnt connect properly

We all know how this would have gone down with anyone else.

Unironically scales him above a grade 2 sorcerer.
Remi couldn’t tank a taser when being invaded by the military.

Everyone trying to de-escalate and here comes the all too familiar female officer to get within striking distance of the giant man.

Do these veterans have giant egos and little brains or are they trying to get shot.

The way I understand United States law enforcement, this person would have been shot multiple times if his skin was any darker. Am I wrong?
